Subject: a low threshold to having pt have a sleep study.

Question of obstructive sleep apnea – I told the patient to talk with his wife about stopping breathing while he is sleeping at night.  I also asked him to carefully to look at his drowsiness during the day.  I would have a low threshold to having this patient have a sleep study.

Drug study phase, English word ? (sm)
Subject: Drug study phase, English word ? (sm)

I think it's just an English word or words.

"The patient was admitted for the s/l 'in-portient' phase of the Ovation '10-15' intravenous carbamazepine study."

He's trying to say this so carefully it's unbelievable, but I don't know this in-portient drug study phase terminology, and so I can't even find a reference to 10-15 or 10:15, even though I can find articles about an IV carbamazepine drug study.

q. hour of sleep
Subject: q. hour of sleep

I e-mailed AAMT with this same question about a month ago.  Their response to me was as follows:

"He may be dictating "hour of sleep" because he expects you to use the abbreviation h.s. However, this particular abbreviation is on the Dangerous Abbreviations List, and we are encouraged to transcribe this as either "nightly" or "at bedtime." If the dictator questions you about this, you can show him the appendix in your Book of Style or refer him to the Dangerous Abbreviations List under Patient Safety Goals on the JCAHO web site (www.jcaho.org)."
