anybody heard of google
Subject: anybody heard of google

I know this is a snide remark.  BUT with the questions that are asked here, I can simply google it or do a boolean search and 8 out of 10, the answer is there.  Some may not want ot trust the internet site, but if double check with a reputable site, it should be a trusted search; plus, you can then check in your own reference material at home.

Just an observation that it seems people are being a little lazy when posting here or is it possible most of these questioners are newbies?  PUULEEZ, don't get ya'lls panties in a wad - I do have blanks and do ask questions here, but my goodness, after my own good-faith searching.

Just wondering. . . . . .

Subject: Oh, I hadn't heard of that kind of hernia. Interesting! Thanks for the info. sm

I *almost* changed it to pants, and now I'm thinking I should have, but I went ahead and put "pantalones" as she dictated it.  She definitely meant pants, not a type of hernia, as pt is a child having problems with soiling in his pants.  Many patients for this account speak Spanish, so maybe the pt or his parents used the word "pantalones" (which is pronouned like "panta-lone-ess" in Spanish).

pulmonary cripple--is this a real term??
Subject: pulmonary cripple--is this a real term??

I tried googling this but the results weren't very satisfying. Does anyone know if "pulmonary cripple" is a legitimate term? This was dictated during a physical exam under General Appearance about a person in a wheelchair on oxygen.

I too love Google but be V_E_R_Y careful w/google
Subject: I too love Google but be V_E_R_Y careful w/google

Google is great for retrieving anything faster than the speed of light *lol* - but if the info comes from a nonverifiable medical website, be very wary.  There are a few I trust only...the NIH for one (Nat'l Institute of Health) and the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and a few others out of the government actually.

As for prescription places, I trusted rx.com for far too long, there are many more reliable drug websites out there... medilexicon.com is a great site and to confirm a proper name of a disease or things like that, there is whonamedit.com which, if you write to the site owner, can be added to (I have done some communication with the site owner so this is 100% true).

When I first started using google in MT work about 8 years ago as google is not that old, (got online 12 years ago, been an MT since 1980), I had looked up Spironolactone, and Google gave the spelling to me incorrectly and (who knew it was wrong?!?!??) I used their spelling and I was wrong.

So, only advice is be VERY CAREFUL what YOU CHOOSE to use as far as websites go regarding MT/ME work because in the end you're the one responsible....not google.
