I would use pussy. Never taught in school it was pus-like. Pussy means it is pus and pus-like means it "resembles" pus. Just like it is cloudy, not cloud-like. Cloudy would mean clouds and cloud-like could mean that it is steam, fog, smog, etc. Since this is a real word, I wouldn't change it just because it has other meanings.
