OMG! I'm not even believing this

It is my understanding that even on a verbatim account, if the word pus--sy is dictated then it should be changed to something such as pus-like, etc., but now I'm working on an account that I may edit freely at my discretion and I get, of course, the patient being quoted saying "pus--sy sputum" (gross).  Aren't I supposed to transcribe verbatim any direct quotes?  This seems so awkward to me.

  • I would have changed it to purulent sputum. (nmsg) - not a word

  • If it's verbatim, then you gotta give 'em what you hear, so pussy - is what it should be. Same with cursing. nm
