Subject: Question regarding UA value (sm)

There is a CNP who when she is dictating urinalysis values always says protein 20 mg per dilution.  Isn't it supposed to be deciliter?  I always just type it 20 mg/dl but it drives me nuts...I have never heard anyone say that. It's always been mg per deciliter and I have even looked it up several times and I can't find anywhere that says dilution is correct.  I've been typing it that way for nearly 20 years but she has me questioning myself now.  Thanks.
