but it depends on if your account is strict "type what they say" and abbreviations like this are okay. I'm not in my office so I can't check BOS, but I'd bet the BOS says write it out unless you have strict rules about typing what is dictated.

The places I work at make it real clear. If the doctor states Synthroid 100 mg and you type it and leave it that way, that is a patient care error which is the highest number of points I've ever seen taken off. We have to have 98% or above accuracy and if you mess up and drop below that, you either get correction action (at one place) or get 5% of your pay reduced (at current place). Now I agree with you that it shouldn't be that way. My sister-in-law is a nurse and is appalled that we have to do that since we are not in the chain of responsibility regarding medication distribution. Unfortunately, at least where I've worked, we are responsible for knowing all meds and proper dosages which is why my former employer gives Quick Look to all its employees.

It would really be helpful if MTs who search for a term could right from the beginning state the whole sentence and not only the 'word' they are looking for, out of context, on the board. This would help us a lot in giving help.

The doctor's really could care less what is written BOS. They are interested in quality work. It is funny how some companies and transcriptionists breath/live it. I am sure there are some doctors out there who are counting every key stroke but most just want to practice medicine. btw....still spacing twice after periods also.....so much for the BOS.....it just doesn't have a whole lot of power these days.
I believe that is only if the company is compliant with JCHO rules. Not all companies are.

... the consensus, across the board, has always been to use KCl unless specifically told by the dictator in some way that the other was intended (which, so far, has never happened in my experience).
On the other hand, lots of our dictators routinely say s/l "cipro" and we always give them Cipro as a result, but I suspect that many of them intend ciprofloxacin and are just doing their lazy thang....
So go figure.

I use all the methods the other poster suggested. I also begin thinking to myself "what could he/she be saying" here that would fit in with the context? Can I actually hear anything that is pertinent? Think in terms of what is being done to the patient, would they have a reason to be using a particular med, technique, test, whatever. You sometimes just cannot make sense out of garbage no matter what methods you use and even QA will give them big, fat blanks.

We were told it was Worker's Comp. That was the way the insurance company I worked for at the time wanted it. I think it is just a matter of preference.

I worked in radiation oncology and then helped develop surgical oncology for a local hospital all during the 80s and got very familiar with all the terminology (but admit that I have trouble with all the new combo drugs that are always coming out).
It gets easier the longer you do it!!!

I've had to do this........

Go to the beginning of the sentence at #1, right click, click on decrease indent and this will put you at the left margin. You can then put (a) manually under the beginning of the sentence and space over 2, then starting typing. Hit enter and put in (b). I know when you hit "b" it will move over. Before moving on, go back to "a", right click, bullets and numbering, customize, go to "aligned at" and make it 0.5. This will align everything where you want it. When you start "c", it will be at the left margin but go ahead and finish a,b,c,d, however long. When finished, highlight this, right click, bullets and numbering, find the box starting with "c" and click it. It will line everything up. From then on,when you type #2, it will line itself up. I hope this isn't too confusing.
