Local and MAC (monitored anesthesia care) are 2 types of anesthesia, so probably "Local/MAC" would be best. However, I don't think I have ever been dinged on QA for typing "Local MAC" with a space.

Here is a link to an article on anesthesia types.

1. S/L 'hausted' needle or 'halstead' needle.

2.  S/L 'suss-man' needle.

I will go to Ebay and find another one of these, since I'm apparently not getting mine back, but in the meantime I'd be SO thankful for any ideas!

not sure but I found one paragraph thru google about dacron wool........being used on a patient:

Once cooling to -79 C was complete the patient was lifted out of the Silcool bath, the outer, Silcool wetted plastic bag was stripped off and the patient was placed within a polyester cloth bag which was in turn placed inside a standard aluminum neurocan which had been precooled to -90  and packed with dacron
wool.  Temperature probes were left externalized to the neurocan for subsequent cooling to -196 C.

I don't really think this is going to help you though but I tried!!

Pain scale in leukemia patients
Subject: Pain scale in leukemia patients

Hi,

Is there a pain scale that is commonly referred to for leukemia patients? I'm doing a clinic note on a patient, and in the PE section, I hear something that sounds like ecot 0 (zero). The first thing that pops into my head is Ficat, but I don't think that's what it would be. I often hear doctors mention the pain scale rating right along with the vital signs, and that's where this is dictated. I'm googling and researching this, but I'm not even sure where to look. Any suggestions?

Subject: yes, but also used to treat orthostatic hypotension sm

Beta Blockers

Beta blockers have also been studied for the treatment of orthostatic hypotension.9 The three agents most widely studied are propranolol, piűdolol, and xamoterol. Propranolol’s mechanism of action is believed to be antagonism of beta-controlled vasodilator effects of catecholamines. Pindolol is a nonselective beta blocker with intrinsic sympathomimetic activity. Patients with orthostatic hypotension may have reduced sympathomimetic activity, and the agonist properties of pindolol account for its usefulness in these patients. Xamoterol, a partial beta1-selective agonist, has been shown to be useful in patients unable to tolerate pindolol. Because xamaterol is an investigational agent, its usefulness is limited. Nevertheless, a New Drug Application has been filed with the FDA.
