Subject: dental surgery reference web sites?

Dental surgeries always trip me up.  Anyone know of good web sites for reference or with samples?  Most of the dental surgeries I do are DDS's working on children.

this med does not ring a bell for me but if you haven't already, you might want to try drugs.com or rxlist.com. Both are very good sites. Drugs.com has a medical transcriptionist wild card search available.

Let me start by saying, THANKS!  I love this sight. You guys help me so much.  I am an MT in training, and little over half-way through my course.  I have really been struggling with operative reports.  Between the garggling and mumbling of the doctor's dicactation and all the new surgical instruments and drug references, I have at least 50 terms throughout a 5 minute document that I have researched for the past 5 days, spending more hours than I can count, trying to figure out these terms.  What I want to know is, does anyone know of a good website, or anything that lists surgical instruments and/or drugs, such as anesthesias, by branch of medicine? (I am on ophthalmology surgeries right now, ack!).  I am learning a lot through this process.  I just seem to be stuck right now.  Thanks!
antibiotics for dental exams and dental work
Subject: antibiotics for dental exams and dental work

This is SBE prophylaxis (subacute bacterial endocarditis) which is given to patients with heart valve disease.  When dental work is done, this causes the bacteria from the mouth to go into the system and can cause vegetation on one or more of the heart valves....which is a very serious and possibly life-threatening situation.  Most surgeries require this be done before the procedure, even certain nonsurgical procedures that may be less invasive, require it as well.  However, the guidelines are less stringent than they were previously.  Hope this helps.

The other day I posted for dental help. FYI, got feedback today and could kick myself now.

Here's the sentence:

Dissection buccally was carried inferiorly along the lateral cortical plate and the mandible to identify the mental foramen and (S/L insexapine nerve).

The word was mental foramen and its exiting nerve. He really mumbled that together.

Anyhow, thanks for trying to help.

Portal sites
Subject: Portal sites

You heard it right. In Orthopedics, you'll come across the procedure of "arthroscopy" quite a bit. The Ortho surgeon makes small incisions called "portals", through one of which he inserts the scope to look inside the joint, and through the others he inserts other instruments as needed for cutting, shaving, biopsies, etc. Once he completes the procedure, he closes those incisions which become the "portal sites" that he is talking about. He obviously is checking during the followup visit to see if there is any infection at the incision sites.
