mL, ml or cc

Subject: mL, ml or cc

I am confused about the difference between mL or cc

I was told to only use cc if measuring an object such as: prostate gland was X cc.

Otherwise use mL for medicine.

I am reading new account specifics and in one place it says to abbreviate milliliters as ml and in another it says mL - is there a difference?? I don't want to get a critical error on this.

TIA!!
