Subject: prn question

sorry if this winds up being a double post-- something weird happened and I dont now if it went through.

I have a question about my doc using prn as an adjective-- he wants prn expanded, so I usually write out "as needed"

however, today he says "on a prn basis."  Do you think I should write out "on an as-needed basis" or keep it as "on a p.r.n. basis" ?

thanks for your input on this one!
