His postoperative course was somewhat complicated by prolonged postoperative ileus, which was not totally unexpected. He also had difficulty with blood pressure control, as with his previous admission, but did obtain some reasonable semblance of control on clonidine 0.6 mg patches as well as some supplemental IV hydralazine. He was also switched to IV Solu-Cortef since he had been on 5 mg of prednisone orally for his spondylitis. He was initially started on Clivicten on the 3rd postoperative day, but this had to be stopped. Reglan was added to his regimen. By the 4th postoperative day, he was restarted, and he gradually progressed to a regular diet
