Company-provided computer does not have printer with it.

Help out with this situation?  Company's software is not compatible with Vista (my personal computer) yet, so I have no access to printer in order to print IM, if that is possible.  Further help?

Actually, I don't know if it comes with the Ex-Text but it is provided by the company

I provided several months for a company
as they appeared legit - offered me position and then never contacted me again.  Will never do again. With today's identify theft being #1 crime in the nation - way too risky.  I was told it was needed as they were going to do background.  I should have done more background on them!!
If you are an IC, the printer, ink and paper are tax

Invest in a printer/copier/scanner.
I got one a few years ago from Walmart, an HP.
I was told by the office to use my own printer and ink to print out
I guess I would have to foward it to my personal email and then print from there.  That printer ink is EXPENSIVE!  More than postage.  Why didn't they just mail everything to us???   Whose money are they using?   The MT's who keep them in business??
I would have a company computer plus my own
I was just wondering as far as learning new platforms at the same time how it was.  I think I could handle it but was just checking how it was for others who had done it. TIA!
The company computer comes loaded with whatever
you need to do the job.  I guess they figure it is easier to load the computer and then send it to the MT rather than to connect via PC Anywhere or similar program to download the programs.   You aren't paying to work for them, you are renting the equipment.
What is company spyware. Why would they put it on a computer?

company computer vs. personal

You normally can use the company computer to research anything related to the reports you are transcribing. They will check at some point which websites you visit. You should have received company/computer guidelines regarding surfing the web and what you are allowed/not allowed to do. By using their computer, they can tell you what you are allowed/not allowed to do. I always used my own computer to surf the web whether for research or personal matters to stay out of trouble. Also depending on how good/fast the company computer is, it can slow your work process down immensely. Where I used to work, they would periodically check everything on the computer!

When you use your own computer, I think they can only deternine what else you are doing on your computer aside from your work if you allow them onto your computer. Some companies like to gain access to install their software by their experts. But you can limit their access by only allowing them into your computer after they specifically ask to do so and stating the reasons. If you need to allow them to have access, then sit and watch what they are doing! I believe the only thing they can see through the VPN is how long it takes you to do a report and in which order you do the reports.

Can we remove our glossary from company computer?

I am attempting to move a glossary which I created over 4 years via e-mail which is proving to be difficult as an attachment to use on my PC for a side job.

Is there a company policy that says we cannot do this?  (Spheris).

I doubt anyone posting about Spheris is using company computer, so how exactly would
!!!!!
Regarding Spheris, are you allowed to use your own computer for this company and are the accounts
full of ESLs. I know they used to take off for QA or something. Do they still do that. I am just curious as it seems like some people are liking this place better and just wondering if they have gotten more lenient with their MTs as far as time schedules etc.
Ditto. Please don't buy a computer for work from this company. I left (sm)
this company because of lack of work.
I wanted to use my own computer and get rid of the RENT on TT computer, but Vista is not compatible.
Good way to make them money.  Not have to upgrade software so that Vista is compatible with Vista.  Huh?
God has always provided for me
and my family, that is where my trust likes, not in myself, that is for sure.
No PC is provided. You must have your own. nm

You can make it up provided there is enough
work for all the others who need to make up too.   They hired MTs to do a Friday-Monday shift so there was rarely excess work on the weekends to be able to make up a shortage.  Some shifts have more work available than others during the week so may be easier to make it up then.
Equipment provided
Looking to change companies.  I am currently using a company computer and don't want to have to buy a new one for work.  Can anyone tell me which companies provide the necessary computer equipment?
P.S. ShortCuts is provided at no cost ...sm
to Transcend employees and is provided prior to their account moving over to editing.
I concur. If the MR is not provided, and you are unsure you are
transcribing on the correct patient because patient's name/and or DOB were not given or prounced as you have searched, just bypass it.
They used to start off at very low pay and provided the puter. Don't

No equipment provided. This was for an IC position. NM

Provided you are performing the line
count they are performing. Have to make sure it is 65 characters, but with or without spaces. It is amazing how many people work for an MTSO and don't know how the line count is counted. Also, different programs count different ways.
P.S....or if facility is closing and provided that
Which they almost certainly would in most cases. This law has NOT proven to provide the protection for laid off workers that you seem to imagine.
When I worked there last year they provided me
a C-phone.
provided link for info....
just to explain where VBC originated and how we are once again being sold out by AHDI.
One more computer question. I got my computer today and
trying to set it up.  Man unpacking the box and setting everything up is a major undertaking; more so for me because I used a laptop before and my desk isn't tower friendly.   Anyway, no info came with the tower and I don't yet have the password to get in (paperwork says to call M-F).  Is the tower WiFi compatible?   My DSL is hooked to a different computer and I wanted to know if I can setup new computer as WiFi or if I need to move modem to new computer and set other computer up as WiFi.
MT has gone from being considered a secure job that provided a comfortable (sm)
middle-class living, to what it is now - sweatshop labor -with near 3rd-world conditions when it comes to how little it pays, loss of benefites, and how much one must work in order to earn half of what they made 15 years ago. Why am I still in it? Because I made the mistake of putting all my eggs in the MT basket years ago, when I was still young enough to change careers. But back then I didn't need or want to change careers. Now I'm too old to go back to school long enough to learn anything I could do that would pay decently (who wants a 70-year-old newbie at ANYthing?), and yet still a good 15 years away from retirement. So, although I keep looking around for something else, there is very little I could do at home on my own computer. I'm so burnt-out on offices & management that I doubt I could ever go back to an office ever again. The thought turns my stomach. I'm just hoping that I'll have enough in Soc. Security benefits when I'm finally eligible that I'll be able to get by on that AND a full-time (i.e., 60+ hours a week!) MT job.
My court report provided the key to her software and
yes, you are IC and basically work for the court reporter. You work when they need you, sometimes weekends when they have rush jobs..without notice because they are not always notified by the attorneys until the last minute and you do HAVE to meet the deadline. Unless you are working for a trial court reporter, you are mainly working depositions. GOOD TO KNOW ABOUT THE ADVERTISEMENT. I think someone with transcribing skills can get into this very easily without that expense. By contacting court reporting companies, you can get the info on the court reporters looking for scopists.
And I sleep well at night, knowing I have provided

The answers provided are based on my personal experience only

need any information you can give me on Medware. What they pay, (depends on your experience) platform (Merit), training (frustrating, on par with many companies in like field), do you pay deposit for computer (you supply your own), what they are like to work for (depends on who your Team Lead is), work (feast or famine), offshore (Yes), etc. I need it quick and any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Yes I send the feedback back to the MT with the website provided..
that way they can see how easy it was for them to do the research and they can fill in the blank themselves, rather than being lazy and having me do it for them...:)
our hospital provided the outsource service samples of ESL's dictation so that the
reports wouldn't keep coming back with missing dictation and blanks and horrendous attempts at guessing. I would also keep asking your company over and over and over again to please provide you with a sample, if not from the hospital, then maybe from one of their transcriptionists on the same account.
You can post a resume unlike the one you provided your current employer and give yourself

a name like Provided Upon Contact.  Set up a hotmail or yahoo email and go that route.  When services contact you (and they will if you have what they're looking for) and it's not the service you work for presently, then you can respond to them.

Good Luck.

No, I had to use their computer. Yes,
the accounts were full of ESLs.  I was off QA really quickly, though.  My team leader wasn't strict about the time schedules, but I always felt as if "big brother" was watching me.  If I had to pick the kids up early from school, I had to make up my time.  Understandable.  It's not a bad place to work.
If you are using your own computer,
you can have on it what you want and have attached to it what you please. Only if you are using their computers can they ask this.
buy computer
You have to have $300.00 deducted from your pay checks in increments and if you stay with them for 3 years they will refund the money; that is what I was told when I was thinking about working for them
Do you still have their computer?
It is my understanding that when computers are sent out, the understanding is that if MT leaves final paycheck is held until equipment is returned. Which does not seem unreasonable to me.
Do you have to have their computer? Can you use your own? nm

use own computer, or theirs?
I was wondering if you get a company computer...I don't think Extext works on my computer, but If I had theirs, I could hook up my keyboard/monitor/mouse with a KVM switch to their towr
computer
thanks!  I get the drift!  I won't be downloading anything.
What is the RAM. on your computer.
I was told when I first started that if I did not have 512 RAM on my computer it would cause the programs to lock up.  I tried updating my computer to 512 RAM so I bought memory card after memory card  but my computer is stubborn and won't go for it.  So I have been typing on Merit on 384 RAM and so far so good.  I was just thinking maybe that statement was for the Dictaphone.
you have to use their computer - sm
A lot of companies want you to use their computers because you will be transcribing directly into the hospital system. There are other reasons that companies want you to use their equipment only, i.e. virus protections, spyware, etc. If you take the position with Diskriter, please note that you cannot do anything personal on their equipment. They do monitor it. This means no personal emails or looking at sites that are not work related. I'm not sure if they emphasize that any more, but they did when I worked for them. And yes, they definitely monitor it.
yes, you need your own computer.
I've only been there about 6 months.
No. Take a look at your computer and see sm
if maybe you have too much running in the background. That definitely slows everything down. I only have my virus scan running, nothing else, in my startup group. Works fine. It's not always the company server at fault.
Why would you need to buy a computer?
ouldnt you just upgrade if you needed to?
TT Computer

I can answer the question about the computer.  You can either use your own computer or rent one from them.  If you use their computer, the cost was around $9 a pay period (every 2 weeks).  It comes with everything you need.

TT computer
You have to pay a rental fee, approx 9.00 a pay period.
No you don't have to use their computer
.
Using Mac computer
Does anyone out there know if new Mac computers will work on Word accounts?  I am told by the Apple store that they have Word you can install so will it work?  I'm getting tired of viruses and am told Macs do not get them.  Any info would be greatly appreciated!
