Not an honest company. I was working

Posted By: for them as an IC (sm) on 2006-07-24
In Reply to: work at transcend services inc - ancient MT

On a big hospital account they acquired, always working extra, putting up with all the problems, platform issues, downtime etc. - one day, went to log on and my user name/password were invalid. Couldn't get anyone to answer me from tech services, nor my supervisor, etc. - finally saw them posting advertisements for the hospital account I was working on stating no IC. It would have been nice if they would have done the admirable thing and TOLD us they were discontinuing IC on that account, rather than just rudely make our sign-in invalid. Thankfully I work as an IC for someone else too - I don't trust this business enough to work for just one company. But, out of all the companies I've dealt with or worked for, by far, Transcend was the worst. You might get 500 e-mails a day, then try to rach someone and get no response for a week. Tech support - that's a joke. You e-mail them with a problem and then sit not getting paid until one of them gets around to calling you. Don't waste your time or talent - there are other places. Just skip by this one ... believe me, you'll be thanking all of us later for telling you these stories. Oh, I did the VR training too - pitiful.

Not an honest company
I worked for Landmark for about 3 weeks. I didn't get paid and when asked why was told 'I just didn't do it'. They used me long enough to get their backlog caught up and then figured paying their employees wasn't completely necessary. The owners don't return calls or emails. In 30+ years I have never come across a company as bad as this one and I even worked for Medquist for awhile. Unless you enjoy working for free or having to sue for your money - run run run!
Be careful with them, not a very honest company.
x
Transform out of WY is a good and HONEST company.. Try that..
nm
Honest, efficient company, TransTech is.
That's been my experience (and I'd appreciate not being attacked by the bitter poster we often get here).

If you just want to sit at your desk and push out reports uninterrupted by nonsense and criticism, and get compensated fairly, with good benefits to boot, this is one company to do it at. No headaches.
And that would be an honest day's work for an honest day's pay. LOL.
Typical transcriptionst. :)
he did not ask about working for another company
nm
we must be working 4 the same company
very cold shouldery there, always been that way - no big fuzzy welcome wagon. Emotionally u are pretty much on your own.
IC's working more than one company

Any IC's out there working for more than one company?  It seems that has happened to me obviously part time.  Do you like doing this, the variety or is it constantly confusting.

Are you currently working for such a company?
nm
Working for the company
I have certain days that I work, I have worked holidays but this is no different from years in the business, just part of MTing as it is a 24/7 job. This is a medical job. Nurses have to work holidays. I see no difference. I have certain hours that I work and if I ask to juggle around hours during that day, no problem on this end.
I am working for a company, only been
there about 7 or 8 weeks. Started out on a platform. The hospital account then upgraded this platform (ha) to a supposedly better version. Get it upgraded. The first day for the first 6 hours of my shift, they couldn't get the stupid program going. They finally get it going and spell check doesn't work right. Doesn't recognize medical words and won't let you add new words to the dictionary. This particular hospital has 2 sections. In order to get to the different section of the hospital to transcribe a report, you have to come all the way out of the system and log back on. You may have to log on and off 10, 15 times a day depending on what job comes to you. No rhyme or reason to the way it qeues jobs. Just randomly switches you back and forth, back and forth to the different areas of the hospital. I'm just about to go nuts. Working at Wal-Mart, McDonald's, cleaning commodes, anything, is looking better than this. Sorry for the long post. Just had to take a break and vent before I explode!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are working for such a company,
You should be able to find the form on the IRS website.
If I were you - I would rethink working for a company. sm
See if the hospital will allow you to work as a remote employee (from home). That would be your best bet.
I think we are working for the same company on the same account.
I have a pillow-talking female dictator on my secondary account as well. Little to no work on my primary. It took 40 minutes to transcribe 36 lines with 16 blanks. E-mail me if you want.
I wonder if you're working for the same company as me - nm
x
185 lines? The company I'm working for wants 250......what is the average???? Anyone???
Thanks!
Going through the same thing. Wondered if you are working for the same company..
Can you give us a clue who you are talking about. I think it is who I also work for if their name just has initials. If it is, then I will tell you what a big part is...they are overhiring for the wrong accounts and acting desperate on other accounts. Ridiculous. Someone does not know how to organize the work flow.
I am working on Extext platform for another company
huge difference in line count, same type of reports, same hours. I can nearly double what I did there in the same amount of time. I don't know quite what the problem is but a lot of people have complained about it and we still haven't gotten an answer to our satisfaction. I have talked to people who left there and who posted their story here and elsewhere and they got a threatening letter from the company attorney. Absolutely no grounds for this, folks are just relating their experience.
Company Focus Informatics, Inc. Anyone working there please let me know how it is. nm
:
Probably each company has their own rules, but when I was working in a hospital sm

generally, it was 7a-3p for first, 3p-11p for second, and 11p-7a for third, not including lunch breaks.

Hope this helps.

Why would you keep working for a company for 3 months without being paid? sm

I'm sorry this happened to you, but when the first month's check didn't arrive, that would have been it.  I still enjoy transcribing (most days) but not enough to do it for free.

Good luck to you in getting your money   That's an awful thing to happen to anyone.

Aren't you the one working for a company you hate? How
is that any different.   You're selling your soul to the devil, just like you say others are.  A job now will help you prepare for later so you aren't living under a bridge, revolting and quitting will guarantee you'll be living under that bridge, sooner rather than later.  I'm not saying so oh well such is life, but continue to work while you make other plans, either going to school or paying off debt, but to quit work, especially in a recession is not the right thing to do.  I believe in being self-sufficient, providing for the needs of my family, but if I quit either my kids go hungry or I depend on someone else to feed them and that is benig irresponsible.   I don't work for WMX now, I'm proud to say I'm an ex-webber, and my kids wouldn't go hungry tomorrow or even next month if I quit.  I sure wouldn't condemn someone for doing whatever it  takes to provide for their family.
12 cpl editing; 18 cpl transcribing - not working for a company, but a hospital. nm
x
I am no longer working there. I had enough of their crap. I found a much better company
nm
Every American MT should boycott working for any company that outsources! n/m
GRRRRR!
If you don't mind working for a completely Indian-run company
Been there, done that 3 years ago...never again.
A company/MTSO can offer an IC a job working certain hours
that they need coverage, and it's up to the IC to agree to working those hours, or not take the job.

If you hired an IC to repair your roof, would you want him working daylight hours, or since he's an IC can he work on the roof from midnite to 8 a.m. if he wants?
No, I haven't been. I told my true experience of working for that company.
I don't have a negative attitude.  You're the one who can't handle it when someone disagrees with you.
Anyone sight impaired working for a caring company? Please contact
s
In retrospect, I shouldn't have named my company because truly I do love working for them and sho
assume this was just a payroll error. So, that's what I'm thinking until I know better. If I did lose my insurance without any notice, then I would not be a very happy camper and would do what I needed to do. But, in the meantime, they have been great to work for...
I have a friend working in a hospital and she is looking for a company from home as an employee.
Would anyone care to recommend a good company?
And you're okay with working for a company that sends most of its work to India and

whose workforce is predominantly Indian?  You're okay with the loss of American jobs, the falling recession we are in and the falling economy due in big part to the offshoring of American jobs?  How okay will you be when you lose your job to an Indian and you have to apply for food stamps and unemployment?

Sell-out MTs like you are the reason good MTs cannot make a decent wage anymore, why good MTs cannot find a good job anymore, and why sweats shops in third world countries are thriving.  How do you look at yourself in the mirror?

Focus Infomatics employs 800 American MTs and over 3000 Indian MTs.  Tech support is in India.  The company itself is still run by the same Indian man who started the company and sold out to Nuance.  He made a bundle when he sold and he is still making a bundle running the company while he pays his own countrymen and woman peanuts!  He's selling out his own people and you are selling out yours!  On second thought, I guess you belong at Focus with your own kind!

Again, be careful when working for a company in Illinois that has a Jayne Mattingly

Ditto.. Over 13 years experience working in hospitals doing all types of reports, currently working
for a national etc.. and Spheris told me I didnt have the qualifications. What cracked me up was the hospital I was working at at the time contracted some of our work out to them.. What a joke..I was good enough to work for a hospital and gave them work, yet not qualified enough for them. What is wrong with this picture.
MQ same situation. No pay for working holidays, no pay for working weekends nothing. Now noone works
much anymore and so they jerk the work out of the accounts to some place that throws it back with a lot of bad bad quality. This is the NE region. I dont know what the others are doing.
Thank you for being so honest!
I work for MDI-FL and I know they post on here but I don't say anything on here that I have not said to them or would say to them. Honesty, it's an amazing tool, huh? Again, thank you and good luck to you!
Many honest MTs/not all bad
Yes there are many dishonest owners I am sure, been there as stated above. But rest assured, there are some great MT and owners out there who are very honest and will pay for the hard work we do, I know I work for one!!!! Just beware of the ones who have numerous accounts floating around among all their MTs, being done all times of days at their convenience(as they are working their day job at the same time)and dont always have time for you, and promises of many new accounts to come that you never see. These are the ones to watch for. I think all MT need to look out for this behavior and warn others to run when it comes their way. Make sure you are being mentored on your work and not doing there work that they claim as their own. Get your credit where it is due. keep looking good, honest owners are out there.
honest MT
I know myself of that practice with PJ transcription. She had her pay with her day job while mentoring me and getting my pay for my work also, must be why she gets paid vacation and I did not. Well I learned the hard way.
Yes, and I'm not being mean just honest..
There IS a difference.
Well, to be honest
Most companies don't consult their employees when they decide to sell. Someone either was ready to retire or tired of the business. Face it, it is a high-stress business.

I have a feeling not just the MTs were surprised.

No need to be mean, but do be honest.
In this case, I would tell her that most companies cannot provide the kind of help that you were, and what she needs is to go to school (or back to school). If she presses you and says she just needs something easier, explain firmly but kindly that radiology is mostly anatomy and contrast terms, so it isn't one of the more difficult specialties, but it does require near 100% accuracy, which is why you tried so hard to help her. If she is not willing or able to return to school, she should think about another kind of work. Just say it as kindly as possible IMO.
To be 100% honest
Thank you for your response.  I totally agree.  Actually, I've already decided not to accept work from them unless it is way over the limits and 300% better than any job I could ever find anywhere else on the earth.  What I am wondering now, of course, is just how I can best JERK THEIR CHAIN in each of 2 scenarios---a BAIT and SWITCH where they offer a different account than what was originally advertised, and a we needed you yesterday for this account, but someone better came along and now they have quit?   But, I guess I already know the answer to this.  It's kind of like letting the telemarketer go on and on with the speech, asking complicated questions, taking up their time, pretending to be interested, and finally saying NO.
Well to be honest....
A lot of times a terminology course is all you need providing it's thorough. There's almost no point in learning the equipment in school because so many places use their own equipment which you may or may not even be trained on. Each place I've worked I've used something different. Tell her to take the term. course and brush up HARD on her English skills and everything else can and will be learned on-the-job. My friend only took a term. course, worked in the Med. records dept as a clerk first, then there was an opening in our MT dept which pays more so she just jumped in the deep end. We were all there to help her which was time consuming but we were happy to do it and she was eager and wanted to do well so she absorbed as much info as she could and now she's been doing this for 4 yrs and is working at home.

Tell your friend to go for it. I wish her luck! :)
okay, then let's be honest here....sm
It is really no skin off my nose whether you care about me or not.  That does not negate the fact that MTs should behave as professionals if they wanted to be treated as such.

Bottom line......The levels to which I have read of some MTs stooping to on this board does not belie a professional attitude.  Personally, the whole thing makes me pretty nauseous.  Backbiting, conniving, and manipulating may get you to the top of some professions but it won't keep you there long because there will be someone somewhere along the line that will pull the rug out from under you.

In the immortal words of  Forest Gump.....that's all I have to say about that.
Thanks for being honest! (nm)

To be honest...
I wouldn't do it unless you really like working twice as hard doing VR for half the pay. I worked for them for a while until I went from 80/20 to about 60/40 or less typing/VR. The VR takes a lot of correcting and on top of not making money, it was pretty boring...much like monkey work to me in my opinion. I also had a few doctors who were accented and I could make great lines typing from who went to VR because they passed the testing but their VR reports were horrid and took me longer to review than to just type it. I would never do VR and especially not for pennies. I hope this helps. They seemed like a nice company but it was just more work than it was worth without any challenge for my brain.
To be honest
It's the wave of the future and even companies such as MDI-MD are making the transition.

My honest advice would be to stop fighting it, join a great MTSO team, and learn it. Make sure you get decent pay for it and just go for it. Unfortunately, I don't think any MT will be able to avoid it for much longer, so it's better to get on with a good company and learn it before it becomes mandatory.

Just my 2 cents...
ANP is not honest

Why did I keep working for them after 3 months?  You don't keep working with ANP - you are lucky to get 1 to 2 files A MONTH with them.  If you make $100-$150 A MONTH with them, you are lucky!  This is not steady by any means. Larry will tell you that it can be hit or miss on the workload when they sign you on, but they absolutely do not have the work that you think.  They have a calendar that you put your work days availablility and how many hours of dication a day you want - you will never, ever get that - not even close.  I went the entire month of May with ZERO files.  They have their favorites and that's where the work goes.  I know this because I accidentally was sent a e-mail that definitely wasn't for me to see.  It is not medical transcription at all - it is medical seminars and if you haven't done general transcription with multispeakers and poor audio, you will be in for a surprise.  You don't just sit there and type - you have PowerPoint presentations and slide presentations you have to look at while you're typing to see where you are at and what they are talking about.  It is rather time consuming.  Bottom line is they don't pay you for whatever measly pittance you earned!

To be honest
I don't think you're gonna get a straight answer anywhere. I just suggested Transcend direct because they're the only ones who COULD make any type of guarantee, but I'll betcha they don't ;-)
Just be honest and tell the truth.
If the service is one of integrity, they'll appreciate your honesty.

Let's be REAL honest now (sm)
Obviously, you are the Director over the QA Deparment and the QA Manager's boss. Knowing you, I am sure you are totally embarrassed at how things have turned out in that department, but what are ya to do?!!! Sure can't admit that you made a mistake, can ya? That wouldn't look good for you.

You more than anyone should know how bad the QA Manager's quality was. She was on 100% QA for over a month. That doesn't sound like somebody with experience, and on a clinic account none-the-less!

We all know that you kiss butt, because you can't do anything else. We also know that you could care less about the quality of a medical record. AND that is real sad! Let us all know when you and OSi start appreciating MTs.
