then you haven't been in the picture long enough..
Yeah people let loose everyday, but do nothing but whine like little puppies. This person is actually gonna do something about it even if it's for her friend. Wrong is wrong.

It doesnt matter how long her MT friend stayed. I don't care if it was for $300.

Oh, you can SPEAK all you want, have you ever been in a situtation where you had to fight to get your money whether it be $300 or $5000? I rest my case.
I already do, and haven't even started yet
I had the most terrific interview!  It sounds like a great place to work, I'm thinking it's a good place for me to be.  She made me feel *appreciated* ...and after MQ, that's a very nice feeling.  It also sounds like I can really just sit down and pound out the lines and make a lot of money, which is what I really want. But the appreciation is nice :)  And Bayscribe looks like it's going to be a breeze, PLUS they converted over my PRD Expander file, so I don't have to start from scratch making my abbreviations all over again, terrific!
If you haven't started yet.
I think you could back out. I really don't think those contracts mean squat. I think it mostly covers them, saying they can get rid of you at any time if they want. I've accepted jobs before and then backed out for one reason or another.
I haven't even started work yet, but I have

to say I am SO impressed with this company.   Pay is better than average, pay for OT (the last 2 companies I have only been paid normal line rate for extra lines), shift differential.  Insurance starts the first day of the month after being hired, so no 90 day waiting period.  They may 50% of 401K up to 6%.  There is a 90-day waiting period for the 401K and some of the benefits.  Free vision insurance.  The medical/dental insurance is better than any I have seen and it is very reasonable.  I currently have insurance through my husband's company and while the premium is reasonable the insurance isn't very good, high deductible, high co-pay.  Their insurance is much better and I think premium is only $10/more than what we are currently paying.

Direct deposit. They supply computer/equipment.  I don't have personal experience with the platform yet, but it sounds user friendly.   They do expect you to work your schedule.

They train you on your shift, so that if you work third shift you don't have to train 1st shift, they will train you on third shift.  Paid for 4 hours of training at 13.50.

I am so excited about starting with them.   They did not have an ad running when I applied, but according to their website they were hiring and I submitted my resume.  They have testing through a third-party company.  Testing is timed and one section gave me a little bit of trouble, but the transcription part was easy and not the horrible dictation that you often get.   I don't know if it actually represents their dictation since it is done through a third party and the dictation files I'm sure are subject to change.

I haven't started yet but they use Lotus Notes.

It is Windows based.  Everyone I have talked to says it is user friendly, easy to make lines.  Use Stedman's Spellcheck and SpeedType.  You download 6 reports initially.  I'm not sure if you complete the 6 and then get 6 more, or for every one you complete another one replaces it.  They supply equipment.  Employee manual makes it s/l they can spy on you.

I don't have experience with accounts, but told the accounts that I will work on are very low ESL.  That doesn't mean there won't be bad dictators though.

Supposed to be someone available 24/7 if you need help, including QA.

I don't know any more than that since I haven't actually started work yet, still waiting on computer.

I haven't started yet, but it sounds like the IC is truly an IC position. sm

While you are training, you are expected to work days, then it sounded like they leave you on your own.   You are required to work 1 weekend a month if you do not have a weekend day in your normal rotation.  Everyone is an IC until you have completed 6 pay cycles (3 months), then you have the option of becoming an employee.  Your rate of pay is determined somewhat by your line count.

As for the platform, it is their own.  They say it is easy to use, that it is Word-based.  There was a post below saying it is NOT MT friendly, so I really do not know.

I am not sure if this helps, but I'll tell you anything I know -- just at this point what I know is not much.   Good luck!

arguing
Hi everybody.  Reading these posts from last few days.  I have noticed there is a lot more arguing than anything else.  Why is that?
arguing

I do not look at it as arguing, I feel this forum is to express opinions, some are stronger than others, and some are defended more so than others.  This is a place where the administrators gave us the opportunity to vent, laugh, cry, suggest, and assist each other.  As with any worker in any position, we need that without fear of repercussions.  Thank you MTstars for offering us the opportunity.

Today, July 4th is a great day to remember that we do have tohe right to do just that.

arguing
You are right in what this forum should be for, but some of the posts I read are just down right mean and unnecessary. They are not helpful at all. Not suggestions or assistance, just plain mean to other posters. We all have different thoughts and view points and we should all accept the thoughts of others without attacking them. That is all I am saying. I am working on holidays too, and I wish we could all work at the perfect job, but we chose this profession. I am too old to change now so I am just trying to make the best of it.
Nobody is arguing that.
There is nothing wrong with that scenario. What I have a problem is the companies that require their MTs to work a set shift, such as those I see for 3-11 pm T-Sat. If I am going to have a set shift, what is the benefit of being an IC? I certainly don't get paid any more as an IC and I don't get medical benefits, retirement, etc. Might as well be an employee if I am going to have to be stuck to a schedule. Least then I don't get hit with extra taxes.
There's no use arguing with the TT
management & couple of cheerleaders here. They won't let the truth be said without attacking every post. I've done plenty of VR, and I agree with you. The quality of VR is awful and requires a lot of work to correct it, which is very time consuming & should not come with a huge cut in line rate. Now watch them freak out over my honest post stating my actual experience with VR.... They can't just let you state your opinion & experience with VR without attacking & telling everyone they should quit, etc. It's getting old.
Please just stop your arguing, there is no need for it.
s
I agree about the arguing.
Some people are just MEAN on this board for the sake of being MEAN....
Think she was arguing the praise
I took it to mean she was incredulous that anyone could agree with OP.  When this thread first got started, abc said some pretty ugly things, which were deleted by the moderator.
You MUST enjoy arguing, looooool....

Look at the big picture
I know what you mean.  I left a hospital situation because of some of what you describe .. no newbies playing though ;-)  You will have no PTO or seniority at home and it is hard to work with family underfoot.  Ask to have your place changed and get yourself some of those soundproofing earsets that are available out there so that the noise is muffled and you can block out the rest of the world.  I can still get lost in a room full of people if I am concentrating .. a blessing to be sure.  You will miss the things you are now taking for granted such as PTO and seeing people .. even some of the ones who drive you nuts.  Health benefits are not easily available or very good at home either!
No picture
I went to affiliates, but it does not list Medscribe???
You are right to look at the big picture, and
you seem very mature. Unfortunately, a lot of us (at least me) who work at home can get paranoid or feelings hurt even though we are professionals. I was a manager in this biz years ago, and upmost in my mind was that my team supported me, kept me in a job and if I had to discipline I did it sparingly and with full research first. I also went about it and ended up usually getting a more loyal employee, because if there were problems, it rarely had to do with the stated issue. As a manager, rather than jumping, it is important to weigh carefully, watch the situation and consider long-term repercussions to being nasty in any sense of the word. So, I agree you are a very professional person and have a high self esteem and you have the right approach. However, not everyone is as lucky as you, and some seek some positive contact, being so isolated working at home. I would say midground is always best. But big picture idealism best for everyone involved. If I had just kept my mouth shut instead of leaving and then talked to the higher up person how there was a miscommunication initially on the interview regarding scheduling, I am sure I would be there for the rest of my career. That is my personal experience. But, at the time, and even now since I have become strictly IC, I never ever want to be put down or disrespected by anyone most especially the person who is supposed to be supporting me as part of a profitable and mutually beneficial business relationship. Just IMHO.

If you go to her website, that picture is there with her...
name below the paragraph describing her company. Think she would use a model for that? Lighten up - sounds like you're cooking, too!

Amen to that. I SO get the picture.

You can google it to get a picture of it, but it looks like a
phone and you use it to dial into the a system directly.  Usually you are dialing directly into the hospital's dictation system.  It has a foot pedal attached.  Depending on the company you will need unlimited long distance, unless they have a local number of 800#.
For anyone who doesn't get the big picture

I feel sorry for you.

An IC has expenses that are tax deductible and includes all business expenses.

Internet? ULD phone expense? Office space? Fax? ad nau... Honestly, when did we become a group of elitetist, sefl-serving, uneducated group of independent contractors?

I could go on.  Instead I will log off. Entitlism is just not something I can stomach on the 4th of July.

The bigger picture sm
I am an MT as well and have been in this business almost 20 years. There are some who have more years invested in this line of work than I do, but 20 years at one job is a long time, and for those of us who have worked at home in this business for that long, it is very difficult to reenter the public work world IF there is a job out there that we might qualify for.

I agree with you in that the entire industry is suffering and has been for the past few years, but when I see company after company not giving raises and, worse yet, cutting line rates, I think it is time to look for employment outside of the MT world. You won't find a better situation in another MT company. They are all swimming in the same murky water and circling the same drain.

No, it's not just MTs who are being impacted, but this is *MY* profession (or what's left of it) and *I* am being impacted with this company's decision to find another way for me to make even less in my paycheck while everything around me...utilities, groceries, gasoline, insurance, etc....is rising to the point that I simply cannot afford to live any more.

I'm a realist as well, and what I see is an entire industry crumbling under the weight of top-heavy management and slave wages for the ones how pay that management. It's time to move on down the road.
A month is not long enough to get the big picture
I've been on the VR for almost a year and started with it on eScription and then went to the new platform about 4-1/2 to 5 months ago.  It starts out slow and then you gradually pick up and start thinking that it's getting better.  But you reach a point when no matter how hard you try you don't get any faster.  That's when you realize that you've already achieved the fastest you can go in editing.  After about a year, there has been about a 28% increase in line production and even that's not consistent because it depends on the dictators you get.  Every day is different.  The maximum line increase is nowhere near the 40% cut in pay.
Yes, always good to have full picture.
xx
Is that your own piggy in the picture? It's precious! :) nm

After reading below, seeing your picture, still lauging!
Love it.
Where on the site is the picture located?

I always get a mental picture of that poster
Not to be mean, but I always picture that poster clawing at her face and pulling her own hair whenever I read her posts. All the unnecessary capitalization, the countless exclamation points...I just picture her in my mind having this massive meltdown and screaming at the top of her lungs while ripping out her hair and clawing her face. I don't even try to envision, it just strikes me as being a mini-meltdown and I can't take the post seriously. I write it off to overly dramatic, sigh and move on.
I was hired and started in 1 week. That is not a long set-up time. When I started with our local h
I needed to get a physical and go through orientation at the hospital which is only given two times per month. This is a 900-bed hospital, so it cannot be an unusual process. MQ took 2 weeks. KS took 1 week. SoftScript never got me started even after repeated calls and emails.

I have only been with KS for 9 months but would never put them in the same catagory as the others you mentioned. They are the best company I have worked for, and unfortunately, I have bounced around a little in the last 5 years.

You have to show a picture proving you have a door?? sm
Man, that is really getting picky. I would fail that requirement, I'm sure a lot of us would! Sounds like they are TRYING to make it impossible for you to continue with them.
Big discussion a few weeks ago about them wanting a 3 x 5 picture of you sm
and your work space. They are a major outsourcer, as well.
Do the 30 minutes and leave the rest, then she'll get the picture.

A picture/website speaks a thousand words.
Thanks for this input. It is definitely a wake up call.
As opposed to what sort of "panties" she wears normally? Thanks for that mental picture!

typos on this board are to be forgiven, but new company's numerous errors and the picture they

painted for our first impression of someone in whom we are required to put practically our entire life details in an email back to them left much to be desired in my opinion (by this MT).

I haven't, but have been looking too
I have also been trying to find something on the internet for these types of listings.  There are millions of ads for MTs and QA specialists, but it is hard to find a good site for managment positions.  I have had small success with Monster and Hot Jobs.  If you do find any other good sites, will you please let us know too?  Thank you and good luck with your search.
Haven't you
experienced everyone Anna? Congratulations on the 2-month mark!

Sucking up on the boards for the boss to see maybe? You might just keep this job.
No, I haven't tried everyone,,,
and thank you for the congrats. I do hope you're doing better these days.

Come to think of it I haven't either
Line counts all in the fingers and the transmission. I better get a tuneup? Sounds like a bunch of hokus pokus to me.
They haven't, I got something
.
I haven't gotten one either yet.
Should be soon, though.
Hey, how come I haven't gotten any (sm)
samples for all the cesspool accounts I get? We get switched from account to account with no samples whatsoever having been provided.

If you can negotiate being assigned a limited number of accounts then your chances at success will be better.
of course you haven't, why would you

How nice of you to brag about it to others, though.  Hope it makes you feel better about yourself.

No, I haven't, but...sm
...I've worked on an account that had TONS of abbreviations, a veterinarian account, so they were all new abbreviations, and it was a nightmare.  It's so difficult to decipher exactly what letters they're saying, and if you're not familiar with the specialty it can be a nightmare.    Of course, they do request chiro exp, so I guess this person would be familiar with the abbrev, but the abbrev part scares me away.  Some doctors just seem to MAKE UP abbreviations.  I'm just getting back into the game after some time off, so I'm SO dreading the application/testing aspect, which I know all to well can be sooooooo stressful.  Good luck! :)
They haven't even been in biz for 7
years....but if you are enjoying your NO benefits, NO holiday pay, NO overtime pay, NO sick pay, on and on, then more to ya babe! Owners are on vacation all the time...just waiting to retire.
