They are just getting ready to change plans and the rates are much lower than that.

I would do my homework first before making those statements. That may have been what it was in the past, but not now. Much less.

Unfortunately, the "many MT jobs" have very low pay rates, and getting lower and lower. nm

Rates are lower than 20 years ago. nm

It's a rumor. They have growth plans, not selling plans. nm
I think they want to be bigger than Spheris, not bought by Spheris, and if they continue to grow in the next few years as in the last few years, I think they can.
Advice from an MTSO. You will not be ready until you think you are ready and it takes more than MT
One of the most important things a service owner can have is confidence. You have to have confidence in yourself before anyone else can.

Transcription is only about 50% of what you need to know. Set yourself up right from the beginning. Pick a name, incorporate, open a checking account.

Then put the basics in place down to the littlest detail. Pick your colors, your logo, your motto.

Put together a business plan. A formal one. It will help define where you want to go and will add to the professional image you want to portray. Register with the state and your city or county.

Take a small business class at a community college - that is a HUGE help.

The other 50% is accounting, business management, HR, marketing, sales and legalities.

It sounds like a lot but it will pay off.

And be prepared ... as you succeed, there will be a lot of people that will try to talk you out of it but you need to be strong and realize that they did not do it so they have no idea. Get some thick skin.

I used to post a lot on here, and learned the hard way not to. This is the first time in a long time that I have come over here, but your post caught my eye. I do not post anymore, but my company has a lot of posts about it and you have to learn to put blinders on it and ignore the bashers. Hard to do but trust me, very necessary.

Anonymous MTSO, although some will figure out who I am !
they have different plans
.
I wonder what she plans on doing next?

Is MB still there?

They have several different plans to
choose from. I have one of the Aetna ones. My only surprise is that it didn't cover all my labs and I got a bill for about $50 for labs. I called to ask, and they said it appeared there was a deductible. I didn't see that in any of the pamphets. It could be just the plan I chose. Other than that it's been fine.
They have several plans.
I think they are quite affordable. There is quite a lot of reading to do though with all the different plans. Ideally you have a friend who knows about benefit stuff and can help you. My head was spinning, and usually I find it quite easy to wade through that stuff).

(I don't have to cover dependents either, so nobody ask me about that please).
Don't know about OSI but TT has about 9 or 10 plans
nm
Which companies do not do VR and have no plans of doing VR? nm
nm
Do you know if they have plans to eventually sm
start up SR on the DocQScribe accounts?
spheris growth plans
Spheris just announced they are gearing up their Indian operation and hope to downsize their domestic force by 50% by summer. They justify this by saying it is necessary to position themselves as a leader in the global market. Layoffs should be starting by the beginning of June.
and you must be 13 and the reason why she changed her plans
x
Various high deductible plans when
Back in 12/05, they had 3 high deductible plans, lowest deductible of which was $1500. Believe it was 1st of month after 90 days when it kicked in. Don't know if it's changed since then.
My mgr sure does not say that!! Webmdx is not offshore, nor do they have plans, sm
to go offshore- one of their big selling points to MTs is that they are 100% domestic!
I thought they were looking for less expensive plans
xx
Webmedx - you can choose between 2 plans - sm
500 vs 1000 deductible.
It doesn't look like she plans on paying...sm
I am not one to recommend on how to get your pay. You may have to go through small claims court. I really don't know. It just sounds to me like she has been paid already and is giving you the run around. I'm sorry you are having to deal with that, and good luck.
Thank you! You summed up my thoughts and plans exactly..

Thank you!  You pretty much said it all.

I expect that 2009 will be the last year that I will work full-time as an MT.

The owners at Keystrokes have other plans. They want to be sm
as big as Spheris or Transcend but still stay the way they are. I talked to the owner last week and to another manager about something unrelated and the subject turned to MDI-MD. The owner said that at this rate, they'll grow just from the MT's and customers who don't want to be part of the offshore trend. They won't go overseas and have no plans to sell for at least several years. They just bought a platform, are adding offices to the office building and plan on staying. She did say that she thinks that a lot of the smaller companies won't survive the changes in healthcare so they need to grow to stay in business.

Talk to her. You'll be surprised how easy she is to reach and talk to. I was. I was nervous when I called to talk to my manager and the owner answered the phone. She ended up helping me and chatting for a while. I was impressed, which is a first for me.
And they hired 300 Indian workers with plans for

Spheris Inc. of Franklin, Tennessee, has hired 300 people for its new center in Coimbatore, in India's southern Tamil Nadu state, and plans to add another 700 workers in the next year, company president and chief executive Steven Simpson told reporters.

honey, all incentive plans look good until
they find some reason not to come through with the pay out!  Good luck!
I cannot get flat rate plans in my area...SM

I presently use One Suite but am reimbursed.  I used to use Vonage but it does not work well with the account I am presently on.

Here's a link with Spheris growth plans

Yes, my husband is self-employed so we have individual plans but...
the preminums keep going up and up. I realize they also do when you work for a company, but since they get a group rate, the hit isnt as hard as when you are self-employed. Once you have a medical condition and your self-employed, the rates are horrible. I am going to check into some of our plans here locally just to see. My husband and kids are on their own individiual plans and they do have a copay but all we could afford was the cheapest plan which does not cover a lot and like I said every year we get hit with higher preminums just to end up with less coverage. It is very discouraging.
TransTech has NINE health insurance plans
.
Look into insuring yourself. Many health plans can be bought
by the individual. I used HumanaOne instead of Cobra for my family (me and 2 kids). It was $193 a month. Only stipulation was that you only were allowed 6 office visits per person per year that they would cover.
Webmedx: Which health care plans?
Hi.  Can someone tell me which health care providers are offered to employees?  Thanks in advance.
That is they have LOTS of different insurance plans. typo on last post. sorry. nm
x
Give TT some time to see if they can find cheaper plans

I also am greatly upset by the insurance hike, but I have decided to give them some time to see if they can come up with something more affordable.  Like many of you, I have to insure my whole family, so this increase is astronomical.

The grass is not always greener.  Changing jobs means switching out problems, and yes, some problems are easier to deal with than others.  My last job (Amphion), I was so stressed out, I lost a lot of quality of life.  I have young children.  I can't afford to be a stressed out freak just like I can't afford the expensive health insurance.  When I moved to TT, I regained my quality of life.  I'm not so tired anymore, and I'm able to be a better mom.  That means the world to me.  I'll hang in patiently to see if another option can be found for the health insurance.

I wonder how other companies' plans compare at this point in time? sm
Not sure how long you've been with Wbx but this plan seems comparable to what we had previously; however, I know we are all paying more out of pocket - probably for every single plan at every company -in the last 1-2 years.

Dental - I still think it is a good plan but then I haven't needed a root canal.
I don't think you missed much. When I looked at the dental and vision plans sm

with AFLAC, it didn't look like they paid for much compared with the premium charged.  I didn't talk to the representative guy, though, so maybe I misinterpreted the info.  Anyway, I am trying to shop for something different, just to help cover the basics.  I do wish I had taken out the disability protection with them, though ... maybe next year.  :-)

I am extremely grateful for the insurance, though.  So far, it seems to pay pretty well and has been a lifesaver!

Nothing will change unless we make it change..SM
As long as we accept the exploitation that this MT profession has reduced us to, it will keep going on.  The top of this is the outsourcing.... well, get your legislators involved....better yet, the MEDIA.  How many patients know their private medical information is being outsourced to halfway around the world? The squeeky wheel gets the grease.  Do the patients know that their info won't be sold by some unscrupulous MT (halfway around the globe) to insurance companies, etc., making all this Medical records privacy a joke. It's not just our T-shirts being made in other countries; it's our most personal, private medical information, of which the public is not being made aware of.  Not to speak of undercutting out profession to the bare bone.  Granted, most US MTs are willing to work below market wage just to have a job, especially in economically-deprived areas, where outside jobs are scarce, and kids need to be fed and mortgages need to be paid.  MTSOs know this.  I'll bet they'll be the first to lobby against any action against outsourcing.  (Wouldn't you be...if you got people to work for pennies while you're raking in the big $$$'s ?  Still, notwithstanding the outsourcing problem, we're still going along with all the BS...working for pennies, whatever the client wants, he gets... ever notice how all of the MTSO flak seems to be re. unpaid work...mostly, demographic issues we're not even paid for... bec. It has to be done.. Part of the job... The client put the wrong info but we have to correct it...all unpaid work.  Just give me a job with nothing but straight transcription, w/o the unpaid/demo. flak..I'll take it even at the present, absurd pennies-per-line state of the profession.
Again, you are not ready
...If you have to ask if there is a contract to type up. If you have been an MT for ten years, you've had to sign a contract with an MTSO. It should be common sense that you would do a contract if you have your own account. Even though the client can break it at any time.

MTs don't mind helping MTs. I think if you seemed a little more knowledgeable you would be getting a better response.

You may want to do some research first. You are not asking the right questions. You don't strike me as someone who has been in this business for ten years.
Get Ready
that is way too high - and is why you are being replaced bu Indians.
You probably won't know until they are ready for you to.

Yes, I'm about ready if
If like you said, I knew I could have a good job out of the house, I would take it. I'm tired of being treated like a first grader by MT companies who think they are all that.

I work like a dog, and I'm very honest but I have people micromanaging me and telling me to make sure I'm not late... they are crazy. I overwork if anything. Egos.
I'm getting ready to start sm
with a company that uses this platform and am curious as to how it works as well. I'm wondering if there is a built-in line counter.
get ready to tell your thumb
that it's going to work for free. Phoenix Medcom doesn't pay for spaces.
Get ready to be clocked in....

I would think it is tough to go from IC (flexibility) to working a strict shift.  This is just my opinion.  The other problem with working for that hospital is that at any given time they could outsource the work.  I'd be very careful if I were you especially if you are an IC with your very own clients that you service yourself and not through an MTSO, which is actually subcontracting.

Even though you are hourly, I'm sure they'll want some sort of production out of you, and this as well can be stressful in a new environment.

It's tough, but if I were you, I'd stay IC.

Most are ready for editing though, sm
Much more work flow these days now that they added additional work types.  Easy to make good money.    I like it.
Only if you're PT ready to go FT

For 1/4 of a cent raise.

Yes, I'm ready to give up the PT MT I do
because this 3 cpl VR crap is for the birds!   I already gave up FT MT after 20+ years and that was a WONDERFUL decision for me.
Ready to scream!!
I need to vent!!  There is a certain co-worker who lurks, hovers, and then pounces whenever she sees good jobs coming up.  She waits until I am tied up with another job and then swoops in like a sniper and grabs them.  She does this over and over!  It is becoming so disgusting.
Keystrokes is not for sale at this time, and there are no plans for selling in the foreseeable futu
This is a rumor started by someone for absolutely no reason. There are a few companies out there who have approached Keystrokes about selling and have been turned down. A few have been very agressive and do not like to hear the word no.

The company has been growing steadily for the past 10 years and has agressive growth plans in place for the next 5 years.

If you have any questions, contact one of the owners or member of the management team directly. They will answer your questions.

This is just another example of someone trying to stir the pot.

Not every company is for sale, at any price. Although that may change in the future for the owners of Keystrokes, right now they enjoy growing the company and improving on what they have built. It will be several years before the idea of selling would be entertained.
getting ready to test with Amphion
anyone take the test recently?  How was it?
ITA with poster below. You aren't ready to go
after your own accounts.   You need to do some research, to be more confident.   The questions you are asking indicate you haven't a clue and that isn't a good place to start.  I don't know what your life experience is, or your experience as an MT, but you need a bit more experience under your belt to be able to get and keep your own accounts.
I am getting ready to apply with Diskriter.
Do they offer a good rate of pay? Did you get an offer from Diskriter or one of their hospitals?
I was ready to sign the contract. (nm)
.
I know 2 people who are getting documents ready
One of them recorded a conversation where they called and ask her to work and also has email's requesting work on her off day's.
Ready to quit Spheris
I have had it with Spheris. So, I am now looking for another company. With the lack of benefits and reduction in pay I can no longer work there. I will be looking for something better. At this point, I do not know how much more of this I can take.
