Shorthand Users How do you deal with the space automatically put in after a shortcut (sm)

I find this especially annoying at the end of the sentence when I have to backspace to put in a period.  Do you just constantly backspace or do you know how to avoid this without typing in that command {@nospace}for each shortcut?  Sure would appreciate any help.  I am so tired of backspacing.

shortcut or shorthand? I know there's
a little incapatability with ShortHand and activewords. If it is shorthand, then you have to install a specific version of activewords to use shorthand. Here's the link for that
http://www.activewords.com/downloads/AWPlus695.exe

If it's shortcut, sorry, I don't know what the fix might be.
Need help with Shorthand and Shortcut
Can someone tell me how to convert my ShortHand File to my Shortcut for windows. Thanks!!
ShortHand Shortcut

do you want to create a shortcut on your desktop for ShortHand?  if so, use your start button and find your ShortHand program on "All Programs," then right click the ShortHand program and select "create shortcut."

or you can find the shorthand.exe using the "my computer" button on your desktop and right click from there and create a shortcut.

hope this helps!

Which do you prefer, Shortcut or Shorthand (sm)

I've always used Expanders already built in to program, but making a change and need to purchase an Expander (Word-based platform).  So I don't know much.  Please enlighten me.  Which do you prefer?

Thanks, guys :-)

Expanders: Shorthand vs. Shortcut....
Has anyone used both of these?  And if so, did you like one more than the other?  Thanks!
Shorthand users

I'm not sure if this will help you or not but it can't hurt to check.

On the autoreplace options page in ShortHand there's a box called "options" after the line for Use Alt+Ins to add current word to dictionary. Click on the options and make sure there is not a blank space in the keyword suffix box.

It used to make me nuts because every time I created a new shorthand entry it would put a space and . behind it and I had to manually delete them.  I did that for 5 years before someone told me about that suffix box and sure enough the space and period were in there.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone know how to convert ShortCut entries to Shorthand?

Shorthand users. Can you tell me how to set up an entry for...sm
today's date and yesterday's date so it will expand correctly?  TIA
Shorthand users - what are your stats?

Hi all.  I was just playing around with my ShortHand program and noticed the stats button and it has been keeping track of my percentage typed and how much time it saves.

It was at 32% that Shorthand typed for me, and it saved me over a year of typing since 2005.  LOL.

I reset it and it was at 42% with just 3 reports.  It will be interesting to see what it will be Monday evening!

Emdat users - is this Word-based and can you use ShortHand with it? sm

Shorthand users - How can I keep headings bolded in PE. I want to make
a shortcut for parts of the PE and headings need to be bolded.  I cut and copied what I want into SH but when it pulls up they are not bold.  TYIA.
You don't need the space between the number and the ;yo in either Shorthand or

taking space out of shorthand for y/o

Hi:

I was wondering if anyone can help me with the ShortHand expander.  I lost all my shortcuts and cannot get the space out for -year-old.  any help is most appreciated!

Shorthand users: When I need to transcribe in all caps and use my caps lock key my abbreviations.sm
are only lower case.  Is there anyway I can use get my abbreviations to expand in upper case?  The only way I can do it now is by holding down my shift key.  Thanks for any help you can offer.
MedQuist? Ctrl+shift+F, period, space, tab, period, space, space, change all. nm

Shorthand users: Is there a way to type a word, use a slash and then type another word..sm

immediately following the slash and have it expand.  For example if I needed to transcribe mass/sebaceous cyst, is there a way to use my expanded sebaceous cyst without having to back space after I type the slash mark?  TIA

It is an okay deal - TR 11 font is small. Not as good a deal as Courier.
Personally, I would have to think really hard and compare reports and line counts, like the other poster below suggested, before I would jump right into it. It is probably 75-80 characters to a line +/- the single character lines you get for initials, and 2 word lines you get with op reports such as Surgeon:
IV Fluids:
Anesthesia:
etc.

It probably is comparable to 9 cpl with a larger font.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

Good Luck!
I meant "One space or two", not "l space or two" nm

They automatically appear after a post has had a certain
number of viewings.  I'm not sure what the # is, but I think 200.  Anytime there is a flame look to the end of the subject line and it will show the times viewed.
But Word and WP cap that automatically. nm

The recorder will not do that for you automatically.

You will need a software program to do that. I am not sure but I thought that the very high-end Olympus recorders could be set up to do that but you'll have to check on that. Check the Olympus site link below.

Bytescribe has a package that uploads/downloads but it my be beyond your $$. Also check with some of the other vendors who advertise here like GearPlayer. Search this site for some other ideas as well.

VISTA will not automatically do this
You have to manually install Express Scribe. Go find it in the directory/folder it was downloaded to and click on the Install (or setup, I don't remember which) file. If it's a zip download you will have to unzip it first then find the install file. Just click on that and it will install very nicely. Even VISTA will not install all programs automatically. Good Luck.
Set it to defrag automatically once a week. nm

Did you check the box to link automatically?
x
If it does automatically appear then you will need to enter your email address.

Switching your internet browser doesn't automatically
make you immune to ALL viruses. Firefox is a browser just like Internet Explorer. The Windows XP viruses come through your operating system, not your browser. Viruses can also come through your email program. Your ports can be hacked no matter which browser you use, too.
No use Olympus recorders and post to ftp site-- all automatically
very little investment required in equipment. Just recorder and software. Why duplicate the Internet when it is free?
In my area, the doctors do these tests automatically as part of your yearly exam -

And on my local ER account, if you're a female and show up at the Emergency Room, they will automatically do a pregnancy test on you, even if you've had a hysterectomy.  I think it's a huge scam.  The kinds of tests that are becoming "routine" is getting just plain silly.

anyone watch deal or no deal?

I love Deal or No Deal.......nm

SpeedType and Shorthand are the exact same program. Shorthand is lots cheaper and also has a trial.
.
{@KEY BkSp}-pack-per-year is for Shorthand. Using the semicolon works with both Shorthand and

;yo = -year-old

;py= -pack-year

etc...

Shorthand and SpeedType are exact same program. Shorthand will cost you lots less.
you can import your autocorrect into Shorthand.
I took shorthand too. But it sure comes in helpful for my expanders. I view words in shorthand for
i did use shorthand once in a job but i was so nervous the "boss" took pity and dictated the report on dictaphone.
That is "web site" in post above. Also, Auto Copy add-on for Firefox will automatically copy
Auto Copy add-on for Firefox AUTOMATICALLY copies what you select (highlight) on a web site to the clipboard.

Then you can paste it in a document.

It just saves the step of right clicking and then clicking on "copy" to put something on the clipboard. Just select it, and it is on the clipboard.

It only works only on web sites-- only copies stuff you select on web sites, i.e. not in other documents.
If it is Shorthand, save the SPF file to a disk, then if you buy Shorthand yourself....
you can just drop the SPF file into it. That is not dishonest since you are the one who put the macros in. I am sure is it is another Expander there is a way to save the macro file and then drop it in the expander you buy on your own.
I use shortcut
but this has happened to me with it and I was told to always make sure you open your expansion program behind the document you are working in.
Shortcut

What are "Shortcuts" and "Windows" expanders?  I don't like the Expander I have and I can't use the one I bought about five years ago.

No shortcut!
Notice all these products say somewhere in fine print (even on commercials) something like "works best with a sensible diet and exercise." Proper diet and exercise the ONLY answer to losing weight.
Another ? Has anyone used PRD and ShortCut?

I'm having to switch Expanders too and have used PRD.  While researching it seems that ShortCut is very similar to PRD.   Does anyone know if you can import Expander word list from Dos to Windows?

I use every shortcut I can
That is the way to make money
Shortcut
I think these only work if the software has it written into it.

Try Control plus "+" to enlarge and Control plus "-" to decrease the viewing size of the characters.

Otherwise, you could go into your software's "view" option and see if there is a shortcut there.
Here's a shortcut for you.
Using the information given to you below on how to write the formula, you can copy the formula(s) to a many rows below by doing the following:
Left mouse click in the first cell that contains the formula to be copied. Hold down that mouse button to highlight the cell(s) containing the formula(a) you want to copy and all the cells by dragging the mouse across them (still holding down that mouse button). When you get to the last cell you want to highlight, let go of the mouse button and hit Ctrl+D. This will copy the formula(s) into their respective columns, changing all cell references accordingly.
(Please post if you don't understand this and I'll try to re-explain.)
Here's another shortcut
If you have to have multiple apps open at once: i made a macro and assigned to an F key - so to switch back and forth I only have to hit one key.

Also did the same with block and copy - one stroke on an F key.
ShortCut
LOVE ShortCut and have used it for years with success on virtually every platform I have ever used
I use Shortcut
This one is really simple to use/edit. I've been using it for years but I can't rate it against anything else because I've never used anything else. If you're using a platform that doesn't work well with the expander, there is a way to load the Expander entries into the autotext function and it will expand the same way.

As for the entries themselves, here's what I usually do:

I'd enter "chff" for congestive heart failure, using the extra "f" because there are times when a client only wants the abbrev. This way I can type "CHF" without it expanding every time.
Shortcut
Have used shortcut for years, when I changed jobs, the tech people were able to do it, there is also an 800 number to call the company that distributes shortcut and they will walk you thru it when you first purchase - also I think their web site had directions. I currently work in Chartscript so don't know if it is the same.
ShortCut
I went to the website for ShortCut but still have some questions (there's not much info about it out there, like on Productivity Talk). Does it have a preview window like ShortHand and the old SmartType? Can you import your word list from other Expander programs into it?
shortcut

There is a book Saving Keystrokes that can be purchased on the internet that of great help for some commonly used phrases and words.  I did find this website for downloading shortcuts, but I have not actually gone in and done it so not sure what is there, but probably not much for medical shortcuts  I just typed in autocorrect shortcut in the address box and there are several sites you might check also.

You can figure out from each of your doctors what they use a lot and make your own, and put them in autocorrect perhaps under the doctor's ID number and then something you will remember.

Most of these shortcuts are your personal phrases and what your doctors use on a regular basis, so will have to be done individually and in ways that you remember.

I'm looking for a keyboard shortcut
to type the date, 10/13/05, using the microsoft word 97 program.  I'm sure I read somewhere that there is one.
thanks to all for shortcut ideas
This is wonderful.  Thanks to all of you for sharing.  I really appreciate and will pass it on to my friends as well.
