on GCTFL?  Specifically, what type of platform do they use?  Is it web-based or does it require a C-phone?  Any idea on what their pay scale is like or incentives?

I have been pretty proficient in this type of transcription for about seven years and it sounds like it is what they mostly offer. What is the low pay scale they offer and what type of a payment delay is expected if I decide to take on this company. How long have you worked for them? Thanks for the info! amj

There are currently no weekend bonuses. It's the usual to run out of work evenings and weekends, especially on Sunday. Management has been specific that they want the work cleared out by the weekend. Yes, they have a newsgroup that MTs can use to ask questions and give each other normals or samples. They are growing rapidly and becoming less responsive. Not sure how you managed to produce 1500 lines a day -- were you on clinics or acute care? QA people have absolutely no contact with the MTs. I don't consider that supportive or helpful to the MTs at all. You can go in and review your reports once completed, but you cannot review your original report side by side with the finished report.

I understand they are not a large company, and having left myself due to the problems with payroll and bouncing checks etc, I am concerned for fellow MTs still working for them. Last I heard, several MTs were filing complaints with the District Attorney - hooray for you - may I also suggest the Attorney General for the State of PA? Bouncing checks is not a laughing matter, and when a company does this as often as D&L does, it is possible they are setting you all up for a bankruptcy, and as IC you will be incorporated into their claim and never get paid. Make contact now with those who can legally make them pay - one way or the other. And keep the board posted. No other MT should be placed in your shoes - and any outcome you have can help others with possible problems with other companies. Remember you are an independent contractor - not an employee, so you rights are a bit different, but a legal claim can be made - not through the labor board but through the DA or attorney general. I can tell you that the management of D&L think they are smarter than us - and that they are Teflon coated, able to get away with this, because they have for many years. Time to show them who is really in control. If you have had problems with them for payment of services and not gotten that check yet, or one that has bounced - file a claim for theft of services. Time to teach these companies that we mean business when it comes to our business.

They have a great insurance program, and recently they increased their contribution so the rising fees for insurance would not impact their employees as much. Which I have never seen another company do. They are also bringing the HR in-house so that they can have more control of HR issues and probably be more in control of the kinds of rates for medical insurance etc. I have 2 great accounts and steady work, they give bonuses on top of bonuses when you help out extra. Plus they have unlimited patience with their MTs regarding flexibility. At least for me. I also did a minutes check. Per minute on an average of spoken dictation I get more lines with this company and incentive retroactive paid more than anywhere else, equal to a hospital job. This is even though they don't pay for headers and footers, but their dictators make up for that, and they spread the wealth around with normals v difficult dictators. So, all in all, I know after all my research I am retiring with this company, no doubt about it. And I am not an MTSO or cheerleader, just an old gal who has been around the block a bit. I got the same automated email, but did not get any additional emails...
apparently the left hand is not aware of what the right hand is doing. I would not bother with them at this point since they apparently are not on top of things. I would think they would have shut off the automated reply or at least changed it seeing as they have an ad running...makes ya wonder.

Any recent info on MedTrans Unlimited? newest archived info is 9 months old... m

Has anything changed in 9 months? Particular worries are the invoice/pay time; one post mentioned 2 to 3 week wait and another post stated 1 week. Info from the company states pay is sent out 10 days after the last day of the billing period, but we all know what is said and what is done isn't always the same. Another concern is the platform; some mentioned it was slow and cumbersome. They have 2 platforms from what I can gather.. Are they both slow? It seemed like certain specialties were done on certain platforms, or at least that is what I got out of the archives. I really hate to jump from the frying pan to the fire so any info would be VERY much appreciated.. the good, bad, and the ugly! TIA!!

Along with the platform, ESL %, pay range, lpd required, split shift or 12-24 hour window available, I would be interested in knowing your personal experience with this company, what type of relationship you have with supervisors and other coworkers, etc.  Otherwise, the all the 411.

Current info on Diskriter?? Past info was very mixed. Either MTs hated it or liked it, does anyone

love working there and why? Do you easily meet your incentive pay or as past people have said, the ESL are so bad that you never meet the line count. I need current and new information. Isnt there a company out there that has a handful of happy employees or does all of them have both the haters and lovers. It is so hard to sort out fact from fiction sometimes and all of us have different expectations. It kind of goes along with the one man's junk is another man's treasures theory, I suppose.

Here's some info...

I asked the same question a couple days ago and got some VERY VERY negative responses.  I actually told the recruiter that they had a negative reputation on these boards and she seemed flabergasted.  I needed an employee position and they hire only IC.  Pay is 9 cents/65 char line with spaces.  They have 2 hospital accounts they are hiring for; one they will send you a computer and you will use their requipment.  The other requires purchase of a C-phone.  They are standard 4 hospital.  You must commit to a minimum line count (1000 lines per day).  No benefits.  Direct deposit twice a month. 


I was not impressed and was glad when i discovered they were only looking for IC.

They are a very good company to work for.  I have been with them as an Editor for 7 months.  Pay is very good.   Unfortunately I don't believe they pay for spaces, but a lot of companies do not anymore, so therefore, you would have to decide if that is acceptable to you or not.  You can get a very flexible work schedule.  The only thing they ask is that you work when you are scheduled.  For a while, there was a lot of emails being sent out, but that has significantly decreased since certain people are gone now.  Every company has its ups and downs as we can read on these boards every day.  SoftScript is not perfect, but they are not as bad as everyone makes them out to be either.

I recently applied to Spheris and they allow 1/8 hr block, 2/4 hr blocks, or a 12 hr block that you can work your eight hours within.

my take on it and where to go for more info

All aspects of transcription are here to stay, there will always be in-house, home-based and off-shore MTs for every speciality, pathology and radiology included.  There are just to many more doctors and patients than there are qualified MTs. 


I personally attended a community college with a 9 month MT program that included an unpaid internship in a hospital acute care and radiology department to graduate.  I would recommend finding an accredited community college who offers a remote MT course with payment plan rather than going through any of the online schools that are not accredited as a real school.  If you go the www.AHIMA.org, there is a link where you can find MT, RHIT and RHIA programs all over the country from actual colleges and find out if they offer distance education for that program as well.  Most are now about $2400 and do allow payment plans and financial aid.

Pay average, benefits costly.  Check prior postings for the account with heavy ESL that posters talked about.  You won't make lines on that.  Specify up front what you will be working on.  They overhire.
