Once again, you people are making my point...
Former SS Employee- I would think that if were smart enough to actually have worked for that fine company at one time, you would be able to 1) decipher a joke when you hear one, and Letterman made plenty of BTK jokes in his lifetime, and 2) you would even BELIEVE that poster was, in fact, an SS employee. Why? Is it because you WANT to? Ok, I work for Medquist. I think the BTK was brilliant for remaining uncaught for twenty years. There, as a result of that post, alll Medquist employees suck and are sick and deranged. Please- get a life!!!

Mute point, I guess, but is that what people
Even MT management feels that each and every one of us are low-down scoundrels who steal an hourly wage while surfing the net?  That's a shame!  I worked hourly for 17 years and was never treated in the way this manager above comes across.  I was told great work and went above and beyond even for that hourly rate, which was not much, but I had benefits.  There was no line requirement, but there was TRUST!
Well, yes. But my point is the OP said wanted people to post

positive experiences with Focus.  I've seen other posts like this where a person will ask about a specific MTSO and say something like just good things or no negative posts please.

It just strikes me as looking at the world through rose colored glasses.  How can you make an informed decision if you only consider one side of an argument?  It's just silly.  Why bother to ask any questions at all?  Just take the job and be done with it.  People take time to answer questions honestly here and try to help out fellow MTs so they don't make the same mistakes we've made and what thanks do we get?

Pollyannas like the OP who just wants to hear the good.

You missed the point. She has people that do the hiring because she is busy with her own
responsibilities. There are just people that feel they need to talk to Lee or no one, and those people find that they do not get things done as they should because they did not go through the right people.

If you knew Lee, you would know how wrong you are. I have never worked for someone as respectful or caring of others and I have worked for a lot of people in and out of transcription. This is the ONLY company where I have ever felt that I was treated as a person. How horrible of you to judge someone that you do not know.
My point was some people are happy there and are not "brown nosers"
It's sad that you left and you still have so much hostility. I wonder why? Some people are not satisfied anywhere they go, and never will be.
Doesn't seem a valid point to me. Most people can make 250 lph sm

so why not do it making 8-9 cpl (or more) and make $24-27 per hour?  I don't think $15/hour is much nowadays, but that is just my opinion.  I made that 10 years ago in an office setting -- hate to think of going backwards, although I do reailze that is the trend in transcription nowadays, sad to say.

I just hope he/she (and everyone) finds something that pays more than that, especially for IC work.

I do over 10K a pay period. The point is this only hurts the faster people.
And that's not you. I came here from MQ and these folks are moving in that same direction. You have a lovely Easter too.
Agree to a point
I agree to a point people should follow their dreams, but it is the opinion of many that is when this company went downhill.  Are we owed anything? Of course not.  But there are responsibilities in owning a business and providing for others, and then there are just downright morals.  You don't blame your loyal MTs for bad quality when we know if it is a quality issue I would put out a guess that it is the overseas work.  I do not want to work for a person that outsourced our livelihood and also outsourced important documents that are vital to life and I personally take very seriously to a foreign country to return subpar work.  It is bad judgment, in my opinion UnAmerican, and irresponsible.  This company has not had a new account in years.  So I am glad you feel loyal.  I am glad to have had a lucrative paycheck  too, but I don't want that paycheck, as hard as it may be financially, based on it costing someone their life because of negligence.  Sorry I just can't give her kudos or my respect for that.  Too bad she did not value people such as yourself more who have stood by her, I admire your loyalty, she lost mine a long time ago.
Agree to a point...
I think some amount of delay is to be expected, regardless of what company or what field.

Whether it's a cashier position at Wal-Mart or an executive position at Microsoft, there are other aps that have to be sifted through. It's just not realistic to expect super-fast responses.

But at the same time, I think there's only so much time that can pass before it's just considered 'bad business.' If I put in an ap and don't hear from the recruiter for 2 weeks, then I have to wonder if that company is even organized enough for me to consider any further...
I agree to a point, but...

Much of the information that can be obtained from the archives is from last year, or 2 or 3 years ago.  Companies change regularly--benefits packages, pay and incentive schedules, and even management.

So while I agree that it is helpful to search the archives, sometimes that information is outdated.  Isn't it better to ask for current information, rather than try to rely on outdated information?

Agree with you on nearly every point; however,
I know from painful personal experience that many of the MTSOs right now, several mentioned repeatedly on this board, are hiring MTs, PROMISING work, denying that there is no work, making false promises about how they will handle any POTENTIAL work shortages, etc.,  only to have us accept the positions, and get financially crushed with NO WORK. That's the only picky requirement this professional MT has - I NEED WORK.  I tell each recruiter that I need a minimum, bare minimum of 1000 lines per day to survive, 5 days a week.  I wish I had a dollar for how many times recruiters laughed at that and said OF COURSE WE HAVE THAT MUCH WORK. Ooops.... that is until I start working. So many times the accounts have run dry, and there is NO work. No work is something I cannot handle, and will not.  So, while I have not done any of the issues you were addressing, like hiring onto multiple companies, I have encountered many recruiters and supervisors and team leads or whatever each company calls them, who guarantee work, only to have little to none. Its a big problem right now, and I suspect its hiring done in anticipation of accounts, rather than accounts. Something is wrong, and its terrible.  No way to justify no work.
I agree with you to a point ....
I have to keep hope that there is that perfect job out there so I am always looking, will even interview but so far have come up wayyyy short.  Gotta have hope though.
While I agree to a point...

Telling a possible client that you think it might be too hard and will charge more is kind of giving them the impression that you're not too good of an MT.

What you can do is give the typical rate and then once you have had the account and you think it might be just not worth your time, you either raise the rate to make up for lost time or you drop the account.

But, to come right at a client with I think you might be too difficult will scare them into thinking you really don't know what you're doing.  JMO.

I agree with you to a point, but sm
think back to the beginning when it was really hard as you say and looking in books, etc. etc. The other poster is trying to make this job sound like it is so easy just anyone off the street can walk right into it.

I agree on the 30 year thing about the OP reports and EEGs that is ridiculous. After that many years an MT should be able to do anything, but to say this is an easy job is kind of silly.

If you have the brains AND EXPERIENCE! That is why it is not difficult for you or I anymore because we have the experience. The OP is trying to make it sound just like anybody at anytime can do this job and make lots of money. Not so! Gotta do you time in the field and get your experience. That is JMO!
I agree with every point you made, D.
And I love the jagged little pill reference.

The "Bigot"
ahhh, I see your point now, agree with that..NM

..

I agree with your post, but I still want to point out
that it is me (and the ones who stood with me) who came out as the winners in this argument.

I corrected definitely wrong grammar (10 times the same mistake in 1 post) and I was NOT nit-picking, whereas I was consequently singled out and nit-picked on by questioning my style, whereas BOTH versions are acceptable.

I can with certainty say that posters who are 100% against me and even started bad-mouthing me, although I corrected righfully wrong grammar, are the MTs with the bad grammar and spelling, refusing to admit their mistakes and should therefore NOT be MTs, because they have generally bad morals.
Age has nothing to do with technical ability.
or lack of technical ability.
Ability to dream
Haven't lost it yet but getting really close :)
Their lack of ability to think outside the box & actually

Unfortunately I have to agree about Warminster. I am not even sure it is stay open at this point in
time. It seems very uncertain the way things are going and I have also heard that the accounts will be going to New York Amherst.
agree! and when you point the finger at others? time for therapy.

No company appreciates your ability to

makes lots of money by high production.  What they do appreciate is knowing they have a high producer and moving that MT wherever they have the need.  I thought I was the cat's meow being able to transcribe an average of 2000 quality lines per shift.   Yeah, right.   Three companies later and it is painfully clear that the only concern the companies have is what I can do for them. If I lose sleep, suffer financial loss, etc., it's my problem.  And before you wonder, 2 of these including the current are highly-rated companies on this site. This is what the last 23 years of dedication to this profession has earned me.  It is possible to be too good and too fast.   The only lesson learned is use them as they use you.

You are stating $15 - I assume you are arriving at this figure because they quoted a reduction in line rate or something else specific?    Do you have an IC contract?   I can't advise what you should do, but I'll tell you what I'm about to do.  I am so sick, broke and distressed over this treatment that I'm going to simply stop the loyalty and divide and conquer.   I am going to use my speed to juggle multiple jobs (I have before).  If the company goal is to get more for less, they will find they get less for less from me.   I read a recent post where an MTSO was discussing how distressed he/she was because the quality of MTs was so poor overall.  To that I say there are awesome MTs out here who really need consistent work and fair treatment and who will bend over backwards to do a great job for your company.   Say what you mean, keep your promises, and stop treating us like pieces of meat to be graded on a production scale.

As for that wine, I'd like to toast you even though it's 10 a.m. EST - you are not alone!

Ability to survive - the BIG issue too is sm
the line rate, the line production requirement not JUST whether there is work at night, which shift etc. It is the LINE RATE OFFERED. Does not matter if you even have plenty of work on whatever shift if it pays pennies a line.

1000 lines a day, 125 lines an hour, say 4 cents that is $40 bucks a day,
5 cents a line $50 bucks a day ($6.25 an hour)
They are going to require much more, if not, get a letter, plus lose insurance.

They will want more like 2250 lines a day at 4 cents a line, at $90 a day x 5 days equal $450 a week ($900 per pay period)
THAT IS 281.25 LINES AN HOUR PEOPLE

I cannot image that on Beyond TXT platform (or any other). I'm WORTH much more.
Nope. I'm thru with this thread. I made my point. We all just need to agree to disagree with b

Looking for more opinions on Voice SYstems in Georgia. Anyone know about ability to make a living
here etc. Have already been told disorganized but would like more info.
You should ask for samples from (sm)
each person who will be dictating before you decide on a rate. Certain dictators may only need a slight bit of editing where others will need you to transcribe the entire report numerous times before the system gets it right!
samples
I don't have much in the way of samples. You can ask for samples from specific doctors if you have a hard time with them and they can pull some for you.
Why not ask for more samples?
.
Did they give you samples? That would help. SM
I work on a mostly ESL account and prefer them to doctors who talk a mile a minute.

The longer you hear doctors with accents, the more attuned your ears become and, as if by majic, they tend to lose their accent. Give yourself some time and I would strongly suggest your company be more supportive.
You don't need to ask for samples with Extext
Best software program ever.
How easy is it to get samples, etc?
nm
You mean samples of the reports
when you're first starting?
Yes, repor t samples. Thanks :)

So much to take to DC - thank you for all of your emails and samples

The USMLSU folks want to thank you all for emailing your suggestions, ideas, experiences, as well as samples of the horrific reports that are returned from India to US QA editors to correct - the before product; this is exactly what we needed to take with us to DC.  So many of you have responded and are already helping out, that we've proven that a group of skilled professionals do not have to go on strike to make a difference in their financial future.

The fair pay vote results will be listed shortly.

I agree. I wonder why people think this will be the end of MQ chiseling them down. This is only the
beginning. More will come. Ever since Philips took over it has been one thing after the other. Do you really think it will stop now. Give me a break. They do these things little by little. Did you ever notice. That way they can be ready when a lot quit. If Amherst is any clue to how things are going to be run throughout MQ I guarantee you there will be a lot of MTs leaving MQ.
LOL, I agree! Some of these people are scary. nm
x
Agree also. Take care of the people sm
who are already with you before taking care of brand new people.
Can the company provide you with samples of the
sdd
How about providing some samples of format? sm
OK, so transitioning can be tough, but for an MT with that kind of experience, I would assume that with a few samples of format to follow she could be up and running in no time. I would not mess with them. Something is weird.
totally agree - nice people though -nm
nm
Also agree, but I think the rude QA people mentioned are gone. nm

I agree 100%. You people have absolutely no idea

of this person's capacity for selflessness and generosity, to the point of putting herself last in an effort to achieve many goals and in the face of adversities I wouldn't wish on the harshest critics here (although youse guys are tempting me!).  If you didn't cut with through her, there is a reason for that and I know her employer cuts to the chase much more deftly than you would be able to withstand so I know she backs this recruiter 100%.  They both can run circles around you.  You have no idea how tightly knit some MTSOs are and the ones here bad mouthing this person won't stand a chance getting a job in certain places if their lives depended on it.

Go sell crazy somewhere else.

I agree 100%. People should know better, but those of us are who loyal will remain so.
nm
agree - most people only have good things to say about MDI-MD
x
I agree. I mean I realize you have to have some idea what people are doing
because of the work that has to be done but not to this extent.  You are right, I might as well be an employee somewhere.  She doesnt hire employees just IC so I expect she feels a need to rule them like that or she has a problem with controlling people.  It almost seems like that.  There are other vendors on the account so maybe it is greed to keep pushing and pushing to get as much as she can.  Who knows.
I would say most here would not agree with you that people from India get all their words right
You must have a very limited amount of people from India you do. I have an onslaught every day I work and most fracture the English language. I am sure probably 99.9% of MTers on here would disagree with that statement.
I agree. I think the reason why people crab about not
just as with many other companies, TT has trouble trying to hire for overnight, 2nd, 3rd shifts, and weekends. People want day, so TT hires them for day. But it is a 24-hour 7 day business and the docs generally dictate in the afternoon or late evening for the work they did that day and for the preadmissions for the next day, or emergencies. A long time ago when I worked in house I realized that working a different shift than everyone else would benefit me pay-wise, and work-wise, and now since I am at home, TT has worked with me to have a great schedule. Why great? I am flexible enough to work when other people are not willing to work, and TT appreciates that so in return they allow me to split my time working so I do have time to be with my family. The MTs who want day and only day, no weekends, etc. I am not blaming them, but that is where the work is eaten up by everyone else not willing to flex. Any company whether IC, SE, or Employee will have the same problem. Sorry such a long note, but I have not run out of work at the odd hours, and I don't believe that I will.
I agree, plus this affects people who don't work for
the state of the transcription industry.
