CBay fired more people via conference call.
...including one that they tried to get rid of in December but felt compelled to keep.
CBAY SYSTEMS - a warning

I'm not a negative person, and I have received high marks with every company I've worked for - including CBay. My opinion on most companies is that one is good for some and not for others. But my experience with CBay was so appalling, that I want to share a word of warning.

CBay has good benefits and they pay for downtime, but the positives stop there and are totally overwhelmed by negatives. The team I was a part of waited for weeks to start our accounts, and we were expected to be patient. Only if you made a point of the fact that you had to leave your other employment to be ready to work for CBay did you receive any compensation. Imagine not being paid for several weeks! Be patient? But that's what happened. Some MTs were paid, and some were not.

And this really paints a picture of the overall working environment. If you were in the know, you could get by a little better than some. For instance, when a virus wiped out the system for about a day, a supervisor said we needed to move our schedules around to compensate. But if you were smart and talked with personel, you learned this was not necessary at all. Downtime should have been paid - period. Some MTs got that downtime and some did not.

If you are a good MT and pride yourself in your work, you might think you would never get fired, but nothing could be further from the truth. They are very quick to fire people.

Although my group's part in CBay was very small compared to how enormous the company is, all three supervisors were dishonest in some way, whether it dealt with downtime pay or something else. A couple of us who were better at transcription were often told privileged information and instructed to not tell anyone. Meanwhile, other girls would ask for this information, and the supervisor would say, I don't know. An organization with that type of game playing and dishonesty at the supervisory level should not be on anyone's list as a great place to work.

There is much more I could say, but my hope is to say enough to protect others from making the terrible mistake I did. Sweatshop does not even begin to describe how CBay degrades its MTs. They should truly be ashamed.

Anyone out there work or worked for CBay Systems and Services?

I see this company is out of Maryland.  I wondered if anyone has had experience or know anything about the company.

Thanks

What was the OSi conference call about?
a week or so ago - the one that was nasty
Conference Call...
Don't you remember the part where he said they want everyone to strive to achieve 40% above straight typing rate on ISR? It was when he was talking about this year's goals. Don't you know what that means? It sounded to me like we can expect a 10% cut in the ISR rate soon, as it is now a 30% cut from straight typing.
MDI Conference Call

We’re so glad that you joined in this afternoon’s conference call announcing the merger between MDI and Transcend Services.  This is an exciting time for all of us, but I know that even good changes can bring about anxiety and I want to assure everyone that we are here to answer your questions to the best of our ability.

All MDI team members are encouraged to send any questions or concerns you may have that are not addressed in the FAQ sheet you’ve received to TeamMDI@mditrans.com so that we can address these in team conference calls which have been scheduled for Thursday morning (your team lead will provide you with the details).

Dorothy, Don, and myself, will continue to be available via email to everyone and will respond as quickly as possible to your questions and concerns.  We urge you to utilize the TeamMDI@mditrans.com email address for all your questions so that you can be assured of receiving the most accurate information as soon as possible.

We look forward to continuing to work with each one of you as we move to the future.

Thanks,

Carlotta M. Buckley

MDI conference call

Interesting quote from that press release:

...including the conversion of some of MDI's business to Transcend's speech recognition-enabled BeyondTXT platform,...

conference call
They can see you? or just your name?
Fired via conference call? A new low, to be sure.

TT 401K conference call
Someone went yesterday and it lasted approximately 50 minutes. I'll probably go today.
Was it Aflac? We have a conference call
about it 2/29.  You should have received an e-mail about it last week.
They said this on a DSG2 conference call
...that it was overflow from MQ. This was news to me too.
I just wish they'd find another conference call
nm
Fired by conference call
along with about 30 others when SPi sent accounts to India and Philippines.  Two hours' notice of the mandatory conference call.  Two hours' notice to sign off before being locked out, and get time sheets in.  That was special!
Second conference call this morning
Did anyone learn anything new in the second conference call this morning?  To me it was mostly more of the same.  It seems like most people (me included) are mostly concerned with becoming an employee and having a set schedule and there didn't seem to be a clear answer on that.

This morning's conference call

My antennas went up right away this morning when the call began.  It was acknowledged that this news must have come as a surprise to us, but when our moderator said it had also come as a surprise to her only a few days prior, my hopes for some honest and forthright information went down the tubes.  It seems to me someone who was moving up in the chain of command would have known what was going on much longer than a couple of days.

I took advantage of emailing one of the team leaders from Transcend last night with some questions about the flexibility of the schedules and shift work, etc., and here is the answer she gave to me:

We do have shifts instead of line count commitments, but we also never discourage anyone from working extra, and in fact we are always asking for extra help, so that isn’t a problem.   Everyone here logs lines and hours for payroll.   The hours are because if you work overtime we do have to pay that.    We do usually ask that you see if overtime is allowed first, but it’s not that big of a deal because most of the time we are so busy we approve it anyway, so yes if you want to work more you certainly can.     We consider $900.00 gross a pay period fulltime.   We used to count it in lines, but now we have come up with a money amount.    That’s easy to achieve actually, but you don’t have to stop at 900 by any means, it is just minimum to remain fulltime.

You will see, more often than not, we are begging people to work extra.   We cross train on platforms and most people have primary, secondary, tertiary accounts.   If one isn’t busy another one is.   You will not be constrained on the amount of money you want to make ...

So, if that takes any mud out of the water for you that's good, but it still seems that our flexibility and earning capacity will depend on someone else.  I certainly agree with everyone about the pay scale.  You can't convince me that they have gone through all of these negotiations and pay has never entered into the picture.  I believe it will be just exactly as one caller said this morning, they will attempt to equate the benefits with the pay, so I guess when my power company comes to shut off my electricity I can send them over to Blue Cross/Blue Shield or whoever to get the balance of my money.

I was on the conference call and was told
that MDI would be a subsidiary of Transcend but would be called MDI/Transcend. Sounded like a crock to me.
Missed conference call...(sm)

I'm hoping for a recap email regarding the conference call.  In the meantime, anything interesting or noteworthy?  I'm definitely torn on this one, and hoping for some good news.

They posted the conference call
We all got e-mail that had had the link to open for the conference call if you missed it. Didn't you get it in your e-mail?
I have received no email about such conference call.
Where did you get that from, and who sent it out.  Give initials, pls.  I got missed somehow.
Anyone know how long conference call lasts for new 401-K?

Thanks

Thank u, but I am confused. On our conference call, we were told

that we would maintain our flexiblity and be able to meet our commitments in a 24-hour window.  Are you saying there are set shifts?  That is huge for me, as I cannot work a set shift around my kids' ever-changing schedules.  Right now we are required to work 2 weekends days per month and we commit to X number of lines per day on the days we schedule ourselves to work.  We were told this flexibility would NOT change.  We also do not request holidays off, but schedule ourselves to work one holiday per year.  We write our own schedules and submit them every 2 months.  The flexibility is the biggest reason I have worked for MDI for years and the only place I wanted to work again after taking a year off to be with a newborn.

I like my current accounts, but am willing to also learn a new platform/account to make sure I have enough work.  But the flexible scheduling is imperative.

I COMPLETELY MISSED THE MDI CONFERENCE CALL, WHAT'S UP?

Please give me the details.  :)

It was referred to as stealing in a conference call by mgrs. sm
Your equation doesn't always prove true if there is little work, if a person's primary account is an overflow account, or if it is the last few days of the pay period.  If people are scrambling to get jobs on their shifts and someone else comes along who doesn't normally work that shift, but is just doing so out of convenience for themselves, they are taking lines from what little jobs there are from the people who abide by the rules and what they had been asked by management.  This is most definitely stealing lines from fellow MLSs. Perhaps you have been fortunate enough to have a primary account that always has heavy volume, and that may account for why you had never been told this by management. But, a good share of accounts aren't like this, and this has repeatedly been addressed by management as a problem issue.  If it wasn't a problem, upper management (Larry) would never have brought it up in conference calls and in email.
I was on the conference call but didn't hear rates..Thank You! (nm)

Town hall conference call was very impressive. sm

I'm glad to be working for Webmedx.

the conference call cannot address the original question,
which is trying to discern whether other peoples emails are seemingly being ignored or if it is just the poster's problem?
Can anyone comment on your Acusis conference call today? Hoping you're all still gainfully
s
No, I don't think so, since we are Statutory Employees; however, call and ask to be sure. nm

MT employees and on-call status

A common enough problem in this industry and one I'm seeing more and more often! For those working for MT companies that require employment status and will not formally temporarily lay you off while there is no work or have too many MTs on the work, then expect you to be on duty by sitting by your computer 24/7 or even 8 hours a day just in case a report comes through: It's illegal to take up your time without compensation.

Example of California's law:  An employee is at work all hours he or she is under their employer's control and cannot engage in private pursuits. A worker who has to wait until they have an assignment is working and must be compensated. Likewise, if an employee is on-call and has restrictions on the use of free time, then that employee should be considered at work.

Check your state laws; most have a similar one. They must either allow you to draw unemployment or pay for your time waiting if they want to keep you or expect you to use your time waiting.

I hear you. I can definitely understand outrage over being layed off,
I hope all the former Heartlanders are able to find new jobs.
What do you think of CBay. Medquist has been bought by CBay.nm

If one is making 7 cpl in 2007, and they were (sm)
also making 7 cpl in 1977, how does that add up to more money? Only if one works oneself into an early grave.
Here it is 2007, and I WISH I could make $35,000! (sm)
This year I'm gonna be lucky to hit $18,000. :(
Have 2007 BMW, before that 2002 BMW, now
that is is almost 2008, well will just have to see what my better half wants to do. He buys me these, surprises me. I do not know what it cost, what he pays each month, don’t care- He says he wants me to have really good drive and he sees that I do.
Yep, I worked for them in 2007
I used to live in VA Beach and they were the only at-home company that would give me a chance since I had only worked in house and only had 1 year's experience. I did QA of transcription from Indian MTs and the pay was low for quite a bit of editing, but at least I got my foot in the door. As soon as I had enough experience, I went elsewhere for more pay. The owner is a really great guy that is very understanding if any personal things come up and he always paid on time. Their IT people were really great too.
Word 2007 help

Can someone out there with more knowledge please help?

I have Word 2007 and my doucments changed from doc.file to docx.files and I have no idea why. I have had word since 2007 so this is not new to me.

I am also unable to email a document from the Word 2007 home page. I have run a Word diagnostic and cannot seem to find any problems.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks!

Word 2007 help
I had the same problem when I switched from Word 2003 to 2007 and had problems with my invoicing due to the docx files. I contacted the person who created MP Count what I use for my invoices, and he said to to open up word and click on the icon in the top left hand corner and scroll down to save as, that will open up other options one being save as Word 97-2003 and from then on everything you save a document it will be saved under doc.file and not docx.file. Hope this helps. FYI I still do not like 2007!!!
I worked there from 2007-08 sm
They people were great.  The platform really just utilizes word and copy and pasting demographics (which you get paid for) and then you upload back to the company.  The pay is on the low side, but my accounts were pretty easy clinic work, so it evened out.
Anything new on Probity? Last info was from 2007 (nm) TIA

Has Spheris improved any since 2007? I saw an add SM

and was thinking about applying. I worked for them before all the changes happened.

Thanks.

You should take the post of 3/7/2007 off about similar posting
just a suggestion. Again, nothing bad was said by poster, but it does have the phrase over and over again.

I apologize for not knowing that you are not interested in what happens on other boards.
Line count in MS Word 2007
Does anybody know how to get their line count when typing a regular office note in Microsoft Word 2007?  This software is so new to me.  Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Applied at Transcend but they do not allow Word 2007

and Microsoft quit selling Word 2003 in June of this year, which means they will quit supporting it soon, too.  I hate to pay $187.00 for an outdated piece of software for working.  I have a new computer and specifically requested Windows XP but did not think about Office 2007 not being usable.

Been there since 10/2007. There are still slow issues. I do not think they are that flexible..sm
I've been MT for > 10 years. They are better than the evil Q, for whom I worked for 8 years, but I am sure there are better companies out there. The acct specs are no problem, but the platform definitely still is. I have cable Comcast, so slowness issues are not on my end. IT works with it, but not well; there are issues. They will not give me time off--less than a week--to accompany my sister when she picks up the baby she is adopting because I have been there less than a year...Email me if you have specific questions. I would say think carefully before accepting their offer. Make sure you tell the recruiter if you think you will need ANY time off in the next year or you may not get it. I did not think to mention last October that I would need time off this May. Mistake.
I did. On page 3 post from 2007 says no current

They were bought by Nuance in the spring of 2007.
And apparently they feel that stating that fact makes them sound more respectable, I guess.  Nuance also owns Dictaphone and Escription.
Post here in Jan. 2007 said they have mandatory overtime. Is this true?
s
Medware..There hasn't been anything on this board since August 2007...(sm)

Does anyone who works for Medware care to share their opinion about the company in regards to steady work, flexible schedules, platform, benefits, etc.?  You can e-mail me if you wish.  TIA.

I just filed 2007 taxes for gross income of $52,341.
