transcriptionist.  My contract states that I can hire assistants at my own expense, of course.  It does not, however, stipulate for what exactly these assistants are for, which would lead me to believe it is up to my discretion.  I could have someone else typing the reports if I so desire, my little assistant, maybe even my husband for that matter.  If letting her husband listen to a certain part of a report is a direct HIPAA violation according to your expert, then the Word Help board on this site is a direct violation of HIPAA and the administrator would not allow it.  What is the difference between posting excerpts from reports on this board and letting your husband listen to a portion of a report?  She did not say she gave him the patient's name, but that she basically had him listen to a word that QA had changed in her report, and then dinged her for it.  I am a firm believer in HIPAA as I came from a hospital setting as well long before, during, and after HIPAA was instituted.  I have tested for companies through this site that send patient names, reports, and the like directly through e-mail, as a matter of fact.  Unfortunately, when you are working online, I do not really see any way around it.  You did, however, state that the company this poster works for should have fired her.  I just do not think that is being very supportive, and that was just my opinion and not a direct slam, but if the shoe fits, wear it.  There are a lot of posters that say they work a primary job, and then a part-time job.  I think QA is highly overrated anyway.  People worry about offshoring so much, yet it is the QA that like to stick it to ya' as they want to keep their job as well.  If they let your reports go through clean, that leaves them without an income.  Not rocket science.  Please correct me if I'm wrong!  I think that we should try and stick together  that is all that I am saying.
