I had a great experience during training and employment

Posted By: with Spheris on 2006-03-08

Though I am a rather conscientious employee and follow the rules after being in this job for 20 years. I found them to be personal and the staff worked long, hard hours to meet their goals. My supe and QA person work 10-12 hour days. I think that if you go the extra mile, it is always appreciated.

Seem to have great benefits, which start after a month of employment. sm

Pay is so-so, level III 8 cpl, level IV 8.5 cpl, level V (high ESL) 9 cpl.  Everyone seems very friendly and helpful.

Good luck!

Great training
I was very impressed with how thorough Spheris' training program was. Yes, there was a lot to absorb, but I wouldn't call it grueling. I went there 7 months ago as a brand new MT, and I'm doing quite well. I make production bonuses every week and I'm making more money than I thought I would this early on. I like the company. They can have their share of the money; I'm happy with mine!
Experience and training
at least go back to school and learn what the word MANAGER really means. Most managers at OSi have no management experience at all but only have a big head. You do have to get experience somewhere, that is true, but at the very least you need college coursework or something besides being somebody's brown-nosing uddy, etc.
My training experience --
I was on the phone with the tech guy for about an hour.  He went through the Bayscribe platform with me, including helping me to download it, etc.  It is very easy to learn.  I had daily contact with my QA during my training period via email.  After I submitted my 5 reports, I had to wait until they were returned to me with feedback before beginning the next day's 5 reports.  For the most part, the feedback was there and waiting when I was ready to sign in the next day.
Would you have to do some in-house training first? Sounds great if
s
I had no MT training, not a fast typist, and no experience in tranascription

whatsoever and started out doing Psych transcription.   I moved directly from Psych to acute care transcription without any additional training.  I even started doing some of the most difficult dictators right off the bat and the MTSO couldn't believe that I could do them.

I am in training - 27 years experience. Love the platform! nm
nm
Yes, my experience has been great so far...
I enjoy the rapport I have with the company and love the accounts I work. The owner has always been up front and very honest about her pay periods with me.

I'm sorry your experience was less than what you had hoped for. I will stick with Nicholas because the company, for me, has proven tried and true.

Good luck to you!
I had a great experience with TT sm

although I ended up staying where I was.  I was contacted a couple of days after I applied, had a nice conversation with the recruiter, asked some questions by email the same day (answered within 15 mins) and even when I emailed to say I was staying put I received a very courteous response within an hour of that.

My experience has been great.

Axolotl has been great to me.  The person in question is strictly about business but I have had problems come up and management has worked with me 100%.  I have found a place that I am going to stay for the long haul, I hope.  I have always had good support.

Everyone knows that people have different personalities that clash and it sounds like we definitely have that situation here.

that's great you have experience and sm
are good at your job. Then why are you not working for another company instead of the 7 cpl company with all the weekends, etc. The companies are out there. Not worrying about you but you are the one complaining. You either don't have to work or its not as bad as you make it out to be. Has to be one or the other or you would change jobs.
Not a great experience there
I found them to be disorganized with everything including payroll - always a problem, an error, a different way to do things. They were VERY noncommunicative. They kept MTs in the dark as to what was going on. They lost a very big account at the end of 2008 and kept telling the MTs on that account that it was a 'holiday slowdown' but there are no 'holiday slowdowns' in ERs, usually the opposite. The truth was the account went to EMR, they never came out and said so, they preferred to give the MTs false hope that the accound would pick up soon. Two months later....they told MTs no more work and did not offer them anything to replace the work either. Leaves ya feeling kind of bitter.
I have had a great experience and have been with KS for 4 years. sm
Unfortunately, I think that everyone has a different experience at each company and it really depends who you deal with. I am happy at KS, as is my sister and a friend of hers but another friend of mine did not have a good start up and left after two weeks. It is all in who you work with, and this seems to be the norm at all the companies.

I do know that they have been growing steadily for the past 5 years or so and continue to grow. The things that are important to me are covered in that I make good money, love my account, get paid on time and am left alone as long as I do my work. I get good feedback and have had good experiences when I needed time off unexpectedly.

The best way with any company is to call and get your own "feel" for the company.

I am sure that if you were hired, quit your job, had everything installed and then did not hear back, that you are leaving something out here. If you were installed, why did you not start working?

It would be great to have details of your experience

Not in my experience - my supe is great!
I'm running out of work earlier and earlier each day, but if I hang around for my full 12 hour shift enough eventually trickles in to get what I need.  I'm wondering if maybe the patients are slow seeking treatment because its a new year/new deductible situation (I know that's my excuse for procrastinating making my own appointments right now).
I've had a great experience
so far in my year with Cymed (Spi-BSO). Apparently, some disagree, and while I did have an initial experience with a somewhat cranky supervisor who eventually left, admitting burnout, my experiences since then with new supervisors have been great. They always have work, they leave me alone and let me do my work; I do have a set schedule, but if I need to vary from it slightly, it's no big deal as long as the work stays caught up. I'm sure if you mention your situation, they'll work with you. They only hire actual employees, no ICs. They only hire management from MTs (i.e., have been there and know what it's like), have been around for 20+ years, and even the work itself is good--a few mumblers, but at least 80% of the dictators, if not more, are surprisingly clear-spoken. Check 'em out.

Well the OP has 27 years experience. Great

My in-house experience was great...
8 of us worked in the department, we rotated holidays, worked a regular 8 hour shift, had holiday pay, vaca/sick days, got paid whether there was work or not (the pay was about 14 an hour), had the docs at our disposal if we needed to ask them what the heck they were saying, always had many extra ears to help. We became very good friends and still are. Two of us went to work at home (not for the hospital) and 4 of us still get together monthly for lunch, shopping, gambling, nights out with our spouses, etc. Sure, there was gossip and cattiness, we are women for crying out loud, but never any nastiness with each other to any extent that would be hurtful. We were not in competition with each other, we were simply there to do our job, socialize when the time was right and be there for each other as fellow transcriptionists.
Great in-house experience

My in-house experience was similar to yours, and I think perhaps part of the reason our experiences were good is that we went into the job with a positive attitude.  I'm no Pollyanna, but approaching anything with a positive attitude negates a good deal of any negative you may encounter.

I loved in-house because everyone helped everyone, we did socialize outside of the department, and holidays were fun and the office filled with home-made goodies and holiday cheer.  I miss that.

not a great experience with scoping
I signed up for the course... probably the one you see advertised all the time and here's  the deal.  I learned the steno language in a few months, but it turns out you may need very expensive software, several brands and each reporter uses his/her own (Eclipse is one I still get emails about).  Also turns out that in some states you don't even need to know steno, as they use a mask thingy to dictate the proceedings and it is somehow voice  recd.  Also with that particular course no help landing a reporter to work for.  There are some court reporting firms, but for the  most part the reporters and thus the scopists are free lance (no bennies).  Was a total waste of nearly 2k$ for me, but live and learn.  Do research before you spring for it.
It will be great experience if you can stick it out, and make
nm
Transhealth is hiring but you must have 5 years of QA experience. They are great to
work for.
Their training schedule kind of got backed up and so far the only training..(sm)
I've had is one short Bayscribe session. But I extended my 2 week notice at Medquist and I have until July 17 now to get some training in at MDI and do some reports to get familiar with the platforms. I'm looking forward to it!
I can't say enough about their training team. Excellent training!
The people at Medware are all just great. I wish I would have joined the Medware family sooner! They are very flexible and caring!
do you mean company training or med transcription itself training?
nm
Webmedx fits that bill, great company, great benefits, great pay and always on time. NM
,
what training? no training for me, first day they Tried to give me 2 ESL....
nm
they did not come up first. An hour of training is not really training.
nm
Great company, great boss, great account!!!nm
x
I never see an ad for employment with them.
nm
Don't you have to pay self-employment tax? Isn't that the same as SS? nm
x
You may not be able to get employment if you are

fired either.   The company has a say in what happened and can dispute any claim.  I would think they you could not get employment based on you resign or else and I think they are being very generous in giving you that option.   If you quit I don't think you stand a chance of getting unemployment.

I wouldn't worry about using Spheris for a reference, doesn't sound like they would give you a good reference even if you resign.  If you haven't been there long just leave them off your resume and say you took some time off.  I don't think the resume has as much to do with your hiring as it is how you do on testing.

employment
Are they still hiring and how is their pay rate?
For employment, what else would you ask?
I've pasted all the questions I think I would like to know from a prospective employer. If you can think of other questions I need to ask, or a better way to ask the question, please let me know! I realize some of these questions will not get answers and some are probably not palatable by employers, but if I don't ask, I won't know and on a more personal basis, I'm tired of getting $crewed down the line.

· What percentage of your full-time transcription employees make greater than $36,000.00 per year?
· Do you offer incentive pay?
· What percentage of full time employees have been with you more than 2 years?
· Do you offshore any portion of your available workload?
· What percentage of the dictation (within a +/- 5% range) is ESL dictation?
· What is the cost of your best insurance coverage for a single person per pay period? How long after employment before it becomes effective?
· Do you offer dental insurance?
· Do you offer a 401(k) plan? Do you match contributions or? How soon is participation allowed?
· How many PTO days per year? How soon are they available for use? Are there any clauses that may prevent use of PTO?
· What is your holiday policy regarding time off?
· What is the rate per line, the characters per line, and does this include spaces?
· Are headers included or excluded in the line count?
· Do you have software that indicates lines completed?
· Are there any charges for software/hardware required by your company?
· Do you allow split shifts?
· Do you dock pay for blanks (inaudibles, etc.)?
· Do you guarantee work available?
· Do you have 24/7 management and tech support?
· What contingencies apply to QA?
· Do you offer direct deposit?
· Have you EVER been late making payroll?
· How often do you pay and what are the parameters of the pay period?
· What other benefits do you offer?
· Within the acute care dictations, how many different work types are there?
· Is it possible to remain within 2-3 work types only?
· Do you offer training/work with speech recognition?

OSi employment
Why don't you just give them a call?  I have worked there going on 2 years now and I see other MTs complaining of not getting paid, not getting work, slow networking, etc.  I have not run across these issues with OSi.   I get work every day, I get paid every pay day.  I get answers to questions and I don't get micromanaged.  Communication has been good.  I am not related to anyone there and don't know anyone there, just sign in and work.  OSi makes the qualifications very clear and it is not impossible to make the required lines.  Good luck.
considering employment
would like info that would be helpful in deciding whether to accept.
for employment
As in who offers the best pay, benefits, incentives, vacation, bonuses?
OSi employment
I have been with OSi for 3 years now.  Some days the work is low, and some days there is OT available, but, that doesn't look any different to me than what I read on this site.  I agreed on a schedule which has been maintained for 3 years now.  I get paid on time and sometimes early.  There are lots of e-mails which can be deleted in a heart beat.  When there are problems I am notified of them.  Otherwise, just work, get paid, get annual raises.  That's what I expect from a job, and that's what I get.  Good luck in your search.
employment
I need someone to tell me what is better, contractor or employee.
It has to do with employment laws in SM
those states.
When I inquired about employment...
which was a few months ago, the recruiter couldn't explain the pay scale and/or incentive program.  Keep on truckin'...

MT Employment Agency?
I was wondering if anyone knows of such a company as a temporary MT employment agency. For example, you could specify how long you'd like your assignment to last, i.e., 3 weeks (or 6 weeks or 4 months or whatever), they'd match you up with a temporary job, and then at the end of that time you could choose to stay on if needed/wanted or have time off until the next prospective job comes along that fits your needs. Maybe I'm just dreaming! They do have employment agencies for nurses that work like this...why not MTs?!
Employment Question
Anyone work for Transcription Relief Services, now or in the past.  I would appreciate some feedback regarding this company.
My place of employment
is sending reports to Transcription Connection, Inc (ohio) right now.  Their work, is to say the least, not good!  Rumor at work is they are going to get rid of in-house transcription and send solely to this company.  Thus, I sent a resume.  Now mind you I have been the transcription supervisor/coordinator for this mental health facility for more than 14 years.  I know my stuff.  No answer back from Transcription Connection, Inc.  Sort of weird if you ask me.  I did not know they outsourced.  Interesting!
No employment unless you sign
The agreement states that the employee understands that he/she will no longer be employed unless he/she signs. (I found out that such coercion in order to save your job can be illegal.)
I thought everyone had to pay SS or self-employment tax. nm

What is your employment status?
If you are IC you will have to send demand for payment letter and possibly hire attorney.

If you are considered employee you need to call and talk to someone in your local labor board. My DH was working for a construction company that refused to pay him once. The state labor commission got on it and they ended up paying him 2X what they originally owed, plus a big fat fine to the state for violating labor law.

If they lie to you like that, I think you need to be looking for other work. Why waste time working for free? Did you sign a volunteer agreement? If not, you need to dump it and find something else that will pay--especially if the check she did send bounces.
looks like an employment agency - sm
click one link and it looks like a resume bank, click the other link and you get an agency.
testing for employment
Has anyone else out there spent hours testing for a company, then not hear back from them?  I sent a few followup emails and left a voice mail message, but never got a reply.  I have several years of transcription under my belt and know I did good on the test.  Sometimes I wonder if there is a transcription black list.
Axolotl Employment
Does anyone know if they are currently hiring? I faxed my resume and sent a followup email, but have not heard back from them.
