so far in my year with Cymed (Spi-BSO). Apparently, some disagree, and while I did have an initial experience with a somewhat cranky supervisor who eventually left, admitting burnout, my experiences since then with new supervisors have been great. They always have work, they leave me alone and let me do my work; I do have a set schedule, but if I need to vary from it slightly, it's no big deal as long as the work stays caught up. I'm sure if you mention your situation, they'll work with you. They only hire actual employees, no ICs. They only hire management from MTs (i.e., have been there and know what it's like), have been around for 20+ years, and even the work itself is good--a few mumblers, but at least 80% of the dictators, if not more, are surprisingly clear-spoken. Check 'em out.

I just have heard a lot of adjectives for a few accounts - zinger, killer, impossible, etc., and I sure know I couldn't hack it there. But I'm sure they know what they are getting into when they sign up.
I've got more experience, can do even the most
difficult ESLs, any work type, etc. and I get offers for 0.07 cpl as an IC too.  This industry just sucks and if I didn't have kids at home I would find a different line of work.   As it is I'm trying to find something else I can do from home, either working for another company or starting my own business. 
Yes, my experience has been great so far...
I enjoy the rapport I have with the company and love the accounts I work. The owner has always been up front and very honest about her pay periods with me.

I'm sorry your experience was less than what you had hoped for. I will stick with Nicholas because the company, for me, has proven tried and true.

I had a great experience with TT sm

although I ended up staying where I was.  I was contacted a couple of days after I applied, had a nice conversation with the recruiter, asked some questions by email the same day (answered within 15 mins) and even when I emailed to say I was staying put I received a very courteous response within an hour of that. 


 


My experience has been great.

Axolotl has been great to me.  The person in question is strictly about business but I have had problems come up and management has worked with me 100%.  I have found a place that I am going to stay for the long haul, I hope.  I have always had good support.


Everyone knows that people have different personalities that clash and it sounds like we definitely have that situation here.

are good at your job. Then why are you not working for another company instead of the 7 cpl company with all the weekends, etc. The companies are out there. Not worrying about you but you are the one complaining. You either don't have to work or its not as bad as you make it out to be. Has to be one or the other or you would change jobs.
Not a great experience there
I found them to be disorganized with everything including payroll - always a problem, an error, a different way to do things. They were VERY noncommunicative. They kept MTs in the dark as to what was going on. They lost a very big account at the end of 2008 and kept telling the MTs on that account that it was a 'holiday slowdown' but there are no 'holiday slowdowns' in ERs, usually the opposite. The truth was the account went to EMR, they never came out and said so, they preferred to give the MTs false hope that the accound would pick up soon. Two months later....they told MTs no more work and did not offer them anything to replace the work either. Leaves ya feeling kind of bitter.

It's not true that they never call you after you turn down a position. I can't count how many I turned down, but they kept contacting me with new opportunities better suited for me as they came up.


You have nothing to lose by applying with them and then continuing to look. They might find you a good job, if not no big deal. The leads they have given me are ones I never saw here or on MT Daily.


Not my experience. I've only found a few
companies that require weekend days. Luckily, the majority of them out there have better sense than that & know how to hire part-timers who are looking for a second job for weekends/evenings.

Unfortunately, I think that everyone has a different experience at each company and it really depends who you deal with. I am happy at KS, as is my sister and a friend of hers but another friend of mine did not have a good start up and left after two weeks. It is all in who you work with, and this seems to be the norm at all the companies.

I do know that they have been growing steadily for the past 5 years or so and continue to grow. The things that are important to me are covered in that I make good money, love my account, get paid on time and am left alone as long as I do my work. I get good feedback and have had good experiences when I needed time off unexpectedly.

The best way with any company is to call and get your own "feel" for the company.

I am sure that if you were hired, quit your job, had everything installed and then did not hear back, that you are leaving something out here. If you were installed, why did you not start working?

Not in my experience - my supe is great!
I'm running out of work earlier and earlier each day, but if I hang around for my full 12 hour shift enough eventually trickles in to get what I need.  I'm wondering if maybe the patients are slow seeking treatment because its a new year/new deductible situation (I know that's my excuse for procrastinating making my own appointments right now).

My in-house experience was great...
8 of us worked in the department, we rotated holidays, worked a regular 8 hour shift, had holiday pay, vaca/sick days, got paid whether there was work or not (the pay was about 14 an hour), had the docs at our disposal if we needed to ask them what the heck they were saying, always had many extra ears to help. We became very good friends and still are. Two of us went to work at home (not for the hospital) and 4 of us still get together monthly for lunch, shopping, gambling, nights out with our spouses, etc. Sure, there was gossip and cattiness, we are women for crying out loud, but never any nastiness with each other to any extent that would be hurtful. We were not in competition with each other, we were simply there to do our job, socialize when the time was right and be there for each other as fellow transcriptionists.
Great in-house experience

My in-house experience was similar to yours, and I think perhaps part of the reason our experiences were good is that we went into the job with a positive attitude.  I'm no Pollyanna, but approaching anything with a positive attitude negates a good deal of any negative you may encounter.


I loved in-house because everyone helped everyone, we did socialize outside of the department, and holidays were fun and the office filled with home-made goodies and holiday cheer.  I miss that.


not a great experience with scoping
I signed up for the course... probably the one you see advertised all the time and here's  the deal.  I learned the steno language in a few months, but it turns out you may need very expensive software, several brands and each reporter uses his/her own (Eclipse is one I still get emails about).  Also turns out that in some states you don't even need to know steno, as they use a mask thingy to dictate the proceedings and it is somehow voice  recd.  Also with that particular course no help landing a reporter to work for.  There are some court reporting firms, but for the  most part the reporters and thus the scopists are free lance (no bennies).  Was a total waste of nearly 2k$ for me, but live and learn.  Do research before you spring for it.   
I've had great luck. it is hit or miss as with ANYWHERE..

from real dictators.
I've no experience of a time clock either.
I think perhaps they mean the requirement to be assigned a set shift and stick to it.

But there's nothing remotely resembling a time clock... we just sign onto our platform and dive right in.

As an ex-TRS employee I still have the instant messenger, and I do sign into that when I'm working, but it's not a requirement; it's more of a courtesy to our co-workers, so we know who's around, especially if we need to ask a question.

My first day on the job at TRS I instant-messaged my supervisor and said do I have to sign in or let somebody know I'm here, and she said no, just log onto the platform and start working.

Of course, if they really want to track our logged-in time, the platform can keep track of all that.

But again... no, there's no time clock per se, nothing even close.
I had a great experience during training and employment
Though I am a rather conscientious employee and follow the rules after being in this job for 20 years. I found them to be personal and the staff worked long, hard hours to meet their goals. My supe and QA person work 10-12 hour days. I think that if you go the extra mile, it is always appreciated.

GREAT post. So true. I've been in this business
for 30 years, and never ever had more than an hour or 2 with no work. Not acceptable and doesn't happen to me. I work my behind off, am fantastic at this, and not 1 employer has ever done that to me, and probably never will. Just like you said, if I hit no work, I call and straighten the situation out. Don't ask questions about the account, about what MT can or can't transcribe it, just state that no work is not gonna fly with me, and I am always treated with respect and instantly given work, which I also thank my bosses for. Give and take - it goes both ways. I'm there when they expect me, and I'm there when they need me, and we're all happy. Can you imagine some MTs getting ANGRY at you? Again, another scream or throw up reaction from me. Some of you MTs really need some psychoanalysis, if you know what that is...obviously your income is NOT a necessity, and this is probably a job for you and not a career. You get out of MTing what you give and what you expect, nothing more, nothing less. Expect to be treated like garbage, expect slave wages, expect no work, expect disrespect, and you'll get it, and it seems like many MTs are looking for this! Thus the continual postings asking about companies we all know STINK. There is no other explanation - you want to be kicked to the curb and probably put little effort into your life across the board. Such a shame.
I did QA, didn't find their platform great. I've seen
a recent post where they pay 8 cpl.  Sound quality and dictators horrible and no way is 8 cpl enough.   They have constant tunover.

been paid hourly.  This is very discouraging!  Were you doing acute care?  Were you willing to do clinic work? 
I've got over 10 years acute care experience and
the recruiter (same one for the last 100 years) called me and talked to me like I was an idiot.  I pretty much told her to take her attitude and stick it where the sun don't shine.  I also told her I can see why they are ALWAYS looking for MTs.  She was a B-I-O-T-C-H !!
Transhealth is hiring but you must have 5 years of QA experience. They are great to
work for.
A lot? You've got to be kidding. Name them. "Big schools" still don't equal experience.

System great, pay good, everything great, but most managers from old Edix, problems, poor people ski
when you are out of work, you are out of luck. If you are good at brown-nosing, are tough enough to be without any self-esteem, and have maybe money coming into the household on the side in case you tick someone off, then you may succeed, for a little while.

Don't ever ask questions or have problems with anything. Don't ever have a problem. Don't think you will have any control over anything you do, either.

A few 'good' managers remained when I left, but the new ones were all from the old Edix, and were completely into numbers, cared nothing for individual MTs...if there is work, you BETTER be working. If there no work, you will hear nothing, no one will help you.
You are pathetic! I have a great life, loving family, work for a great company.

I will add that getting a great pay check every other Friday from Medware really puts a huge smile on my face.
Oracle is great. Bayscribe is wonderful great line counts.
The trainer at OTI will always answer any questions about the platform and if you have any problems they have already worked them out, so just ask. Good luck!

What good does it do? They've lied, they've betrayed us.

They've taken all they are going to take from me.   I am not going to waste any more time being angry.   I hate the way things ended, but I refuse to accept the blame for any part of it because I know that was a lie too, even though they did try to blame the MTs.  I know part of the problem was quality issues, but QA wasn't to blame for that either, although they have been.   


It is time to pick up and move on.   I think mgmt will reap what they sow.   For those who worked on the main account Webmedx is still hiring, though the best time slots have already been taken.

giving the negative info because every time I have in the past I am called a disgruntled ex-employee or told that my experience has no relation to what the company is like today.


I won't repeat the information I've given in the past, anyone can find it on searches.  I've decided to just let the people have their experience with the company and that experience will validate everything I've ever said about those people.


The same people own and run that company--they may have new names doing the management, but it still runs the same way.


You've got it ~ you've hit the nail on the head....

I can Google until dawn and still not find John Smith in NY - you know the neurologist...  Cut me a break!  I've now learned to ask my online company for a list of referring physicians (since none of the accounts are in my state) and also ask for websites for the hospitals, but I still don't take more than 5 min of my own time to find referring physicians.  I send it right through with a verify cc:... 


As far as making an educated guess, I would only do that if it was my own account and I know the dictator well.  For the online company, it is their responsibility to make that educated guess as it is their client, not mine.  I leave that up to the company to make assumptions; this way it is on their back, not mine when it comes to the legality of the report.  Ultimately, the physician is responsible when signing that report or there should be clause on those reports that state dictated but not read.  If that clause is not there, then it is the physician's responsibility to know the content, not the MT.  An MT can only transcribe what they hear and really should not be making educated guesses on anyone since we live in a world of sue-happy patients and their malpractice insurance is so high.  If there is a question, it needs to go the dictator to resolve.


JMO - been doing this for over 20 years.  


I've been a QA 15 years and I've never heard
of any company only paying for the actual Keystrokes of the blank. You would literally make less than minimum wage that way. Waaay less.

I've just started with this great company (eMTS).  I have 11+ years of experience and I was started at .10 per line as a regular employee, not IC, with a huge sign-on bonus, full benefits, very nice people, and a good account.  So far, this is the best experience I've had in my years as a transcriptionist.  Unfortunately, I don't believe they're hiring more right now, but you could always check in with them, they're online at eMTS.com.  The management seems to really care and they work with you.

I use to work there.  The dictators on my account were really good.  They use Emdat/Inscribe.  Pay on 1st and 15th by direct deposit.
