    This certainly isn't the first message from an MTSO
    I'm sure it won't be the last. He or she has every right to voice his/her opinion whatever it may be. MTs are supposed to be professionals as well and many of them act like deranged ten year olds or whiney five year olds on this board.

    This person has very valid points. Many MTs are only consumed with themselves and never take the time to consider all factors involved in a situation.

    There are certain factions who have profited greatly from having us believe that unions are corrupt and useless.  Yes, there have been abuses of power in unions, and the auto industry is paying for that.  However, that is only one of there problems and probably not one of their biggest. 


    Who needs unions?  Look at the average American worker, barely able to live paycheck to paycheck, and corporations making record profits.  How bad do things have to get?  Are you willing to just sit back and let the corporations continue to take over?     


    Unions are about giving workers a chance, a chance to stand up for themselves.  It is only through organizing that we can create a united front and stop this trend of abuse to the American worker.  It is not about being militant or greedy.  It is about human decency.

    It should be MT Hysteria, not Stars. It's been this way for years. Nice comical break from the daily grind. Didn't you see the poster above who has already predicted this is just the beginning of a 30% pay cut for KSers? HAHAHAHAHA. Seriously, it makes you wonder how in touch with reality some people are or if they just actually ENJOY wallowing in malcontent. I think some people truly do.
    MDI message board?
    Does anyone know if MDI still has their own message board open? It was one they had through the mditrans site. I tried to access it recently and wasn't able to.
    Has anyone here ever read the message board
    It's pretty interesting in that some posts have been made in regard to stocks being valuable based on the MTs.  One even said that As long as there is cash in the bank and transcriptionists transcribing it remains a viable opportunity.  I wonder if they know all the problems with keeping transcriptionists transcribing there.  I also wonder if that post came from Transcend management.

    Basically all their MTs are in India and they LIE big time!! Very very disorganized...right hand has NO CLUE what the left hand is doing. Talkin about jumpin thru hoops too GEESH. The pay scales works like this..if you edit something already edited by an Indian you get 0.015 cpl if you just edit an Indian's work it is 3 cpl. What a mess they are!!

    How do you report an MTSO to the Labor Board - sm

    I work for an MTSO that lies about when paychecks are sent out.  We are paid twice a month, on the 15 and the 30 or 31.  When the owner of the company was on vacation, I got my paycheck on time.  Ever since this individual came back, it's the same old s##T all over again. I have heard that this person holds checks until the last minute and it takes around 10 days to get paycheck in hand.  This person blames it on the post office being the worst in the world.  Well, how come during the most busiest time of the year, I got paid on time, when the post offices notoriously are supposed to be slower?  I called the post office over there and was told that I should report this company to the labor board, only how do I do it and retain anonymity?  Any ideas?  I don't want to lose this job YET!  I have something else in the works, but not just yet.  I realize this will probably be hard to prove, too.


    Perhaps you know of someone yourself or had this experience yourself that you might be able to share and give some advice.


    I agree - every major MTSO on this board seems to have the same sm
    issues ongoing. I've seen multiple company names mentioned (just scroll down) all summer long, so it isn't a situation isolated solely to Webmedx.

    I believe it IS the economy, as well as increased volumes going offshore (not at Wmx but the other MTSOs) affecting volumes nationally. There are no companies offering giant hire-on bonuses any more either.

    I am also grateful for my job, even if it means flexing around more.

    To bad we can't come on here and state our feelings or vent our frustrations without having to worry about all this. Some posts are over the line, but most are just people who want a place to talk to others in the same boat they are. I think the ones who are trying to dissect the posts to figure out who they are written by need to spend a little more time working!!!

    How does a chat board assist an MTSO with nonpayment issues?
    Just asking, not finding the correlation between the two, and clarification would be appreciated for now and the future.

    How many other types of companies get away with paying when they want, not providing enough work or asking that we give more and more, deciding what accounts and random changes?


    I am on my 4th company just trying to find one who will come through on pay, provide somewhere close to the amount of work agreed upon, support for questions, discussion of accounts, etc.  Can't even get a 'good morning'.  Geesh.  If MTSOs ran it like it was a business there would be a lot less conflict.

    you have the right to negotiate anything.
    Start by asking why 30 days. If it is because they are tired of people up and leaving - well, then, why are people up and leaving? Tad unreasonable, maybe?

    I work for a company that *requires* a weekend component, but I asked to work every other weekend (Saturday in my case) and it was agreed to. Don't forget to ASK for what you want, before assuming that you'll be turned down. Sometimes the companies request a certain schedule but will work with you.
    The name of the game is NEGOTIATE your SM

    pay.  There is at least 1 person below who is upset because he/she doesn't get the same rate the OP gets.  Question--did you just accept the line rate offered or did you attempt to negotiate it?  More often than not, the MT is offered a line rate and just says okay and it doesn't have to be that way.


    If you have years of experience with 98% quality or better, high-level acute care work (not just rural hospital gallbladder/appendix type stuff) and are willing to work the off shifts you can hold up each of those items and all of them as a whole to leverage yourself into a higher per-line rate right from the start.


    It may only be that the MT next to you is making more per line because they did a better job of negotiating the rate.


    You need to negotiate better contracts.

    You have to negotiate your straight typing pay.
    The most I've seen (and get myself) for the editing is 4 cpl. I get between 8.4-10 cpl for straight typing with several different companies.
    You might be able to negotiate a rotating weekend - sm
    some MTs work Mon-Fri one week, Tu-Sa the next. Or every third weekend. It's worth asking.

    Negotiate? I tried... didn't happen...
    They told me there was no room to negotiate on the clinic account I'm on. Had to actually take a pay cut from my previous job, which I didn't want to do, but what choice did I have? After sending out tons of resumes and never getting a response from ANYONE, I decided to take this. Some money is better than no money, especially when your husband is on the verge of being laid off.
    Any Spheris employees know if you can negotiate for less than 20 hours PT? (sm)

    Getting too old to do a fully 60 hours per week and was hoping to find employee status rather than IC to fit the bill here for less than 20 PT hours a week.


    Saw the add for the SoCAL account and was intrigued.  Used to do a large west coast account, perhaps this one came from MQ to them?  Hope, hope,

    I'd try to keep my cool and just

    call him back and remind him that you need to have everything taken care of today so you will be ready for training on Monday.  He may have had other things come up that he just had to take care of.  It might not be a case of disorganization, just a case of unforeseen circumstances on his end.  I'm sure it will be fine.  I know it's annoying but try and cut him some slack.

    You are so lucky to have someone looking out for you and recommending a good company to you personally. I wish I had that kind of help right now. Always been with hospitals and having a really hard time working for MTSOs. Hospitals don't seem to be hiring or are through MTSO in my area, so I have no choice. But have been through the ringer, not paid correctly, not given what promised, insurance rate hike, uggg. The last 2 jobs I worked entirely for insurance and I just don't know what to do these days. You have an angel looking out over you. I hope someone e mails me someday with a great choice! And I hope someday this stress goes away! Good luck in your new situation and with that kind of support, sounds like you will do well! :)

When I first started out in the hospital, I worked as a lab clerk/receptionist and did some transcription and since then have done acute care for 30 odd years. I told myself maybe if things keep going downhill I would check out the labs. But looks like I'd need more schooling anyway.
