calls from housewives who know how to type *real good*. Or people who wanted to do this because they saw in a magazine that you can make a lot of money in your free time!

Look through the yellow pages of your local

phone book and call agents that offer health insurance.  Make several calls.  I did this when we needed private insurance and each call I made I got a lower premium, although every company had the very same insurance.  Celtic is what we found to be the lowest.  We no longer have this insurance as we have insurance through DH job, but we had no existing conditions, no regular meds, nonsmokers, so I'm not sure if these were covered.   I'd keep calling about COBRA.  The company has to offer it.   If you go 45 days without insurance and have a pre-existing condition you are in trouble, unless things have changed since we got insurance.  There is a temporary insurance through Fortis that is very cheap, but the deductible is very high and it doesn't cover pre-existing conditions.

I'd stay away from the association for the self-employed or whatever it is called.  When I called them their rates were double what I could get a private policy for and it was the same insurance.

Go through the yellow pages of your local phone

book and call insurance companies that offer health insurance.  Call several.  I called 6 companies when I was looking and all the quotes were for the very same insurance, but varied as much as $200/mo.   Celtic was the best insurance.  For a family of 4, nonsmokers it was about $335/mo.   We don't have the insurance now as we have through DH job.  I can't remember if that included dental/vision/maternity coverage.   There is also a temporary insurance through Fortis, that depending on what state you live in is good for 1 year.  It is not renewable and you cannot get it if you have a pre-existing condition, or have been without coverage for a certain time period, can't remember but I think it is 15 days.   We could only get it for 6 months in our state and I paid the premium for the entire coverage and it was $403.00 total for the entire 6 months.  The deductible was $5,000.  This was basically catastrophic insurance, did not cover dental/vision/maternity.   We are all healthy and on no meds so for us it was the best option.    You can check e-insurance website and get some quotes to get an idea of coverage available, though it will not likely have everything that is available included, which is why I suggest calling local agencies.   There is a self-employed organization that offers insurance, but I found to be very expensive, about what you are paying now.

Check into medical savings accounts.  I don't know that much about them, but I believe you have to qualify for them.   You basically put $$ into an account much like an IRA and get tax breaks.

There were pages of VERY negative posts about them, in the high teen-20s pages on

Yellow flame
Can somebody please tell me what the yellow flame means?
Can someone please tell me what the little yellow thing is ....
that is next to some of the postings? Actually it almost looks like fire. What does it mean?

TIA
Check out magic yellow (sm)

It's free yellow pages.  Look under transcription and there might be companies in your area that you can contact.  Not all of us pay to advertise (I'm not hiring employees because I'm just a small company) and you might just find a nice small local company who could use you.

If you're near a large city, look in the phone book.  My suggestion is to try a smaller local MTSO rather than go with the larger companies.  You'll probably find the working conditions, terms and cpl amount a lot better.  :)

I called 6 agencies from my local yellow
pages that said in their ads they sold health insurance.  Each one sold the very same insurance, but premiums ranged widely.    We currently have a cheaper insurance through my DH work and I don't remember if the private insurance covered eye care and dental or just medical.    I'd also recommend looking into a medical savings account to see if you qualify.
TT - ext text. Why are some voice jobs gold/yellow instead of white? nm

That's probably most of them except for the top 5-7 that advertise over and

Yes, we DO advertise for MT's!
Why do you thik it's so? It's because we are getting new accounts each and every week. How do you like them apples? It's because we have very high standards and have to replace those who can't cut it. Its because we LOVE giving people work when they are in need of work to earn a living for their families, and we have plenty for them to make a very good living. We have a huge recruiting team because we are always in search of the best, the brightest, the most ethical, the most honest, the hardest working and the most successful of all the MT's around. We are NOT interested in those who spend hours chating in various gripe boards when you should be typing. It clearly explains why either you are NO longer here, or why you couldn't get here in the first place.
They sure advertise like crazy!
Hope its cuz they have lots 'O work?
They advertise they start at 8 cpl
and go to 10, so you know this one has a few wires crossed upstairs. n
Trying to Advertise my letter...
in the Toledo Blade myself. They told me that the advertising managers will have to review my article and decide if they will let me do it. I don't know what it will cost to do it, but I am sure going to try!!!!

I will send it to Lou Dobbs now.
Transhealth-They used to advertise all the sm
time here for MTs, haven't seen an ad in forever. Wonder why?
They seem to advertise a good bit .... SM
often on MTJobs.com which is where their current ad is.
They used to advertise they pay scale as -
9-11 cpl.  PRN status is 7.5 cpl.  From what I heard recently, they are trying to lower their MT pay expense (not investment), so if you ever were to get off 9 cpl it would surprise me.
The good ones don’t advertise? Then why, tell me
when I looked at the listings for jobs at only the 10th one down I found an ad from Transcend? I guess they have to go over to the bad companies, right for advertising?
Will we be able to see all the pages?
Cannot go to the 2nd page now.
well done! this could go 10 pages, lol.

Email the website where they advertise for MTs - sm

They will remove them from future advertising as they are reputable website.

I have not seen them advertise in a long time.
I have never heard anything negative about them to my recollection though.
I have not seen them advertise in a long time.
I know their recruiter left and I really have not seen any ads. They do have a banner on this site though.
When I advertise, I give all that information as
well as all information related to the job.

I worked for one company once that had their pre-canned ads. I hated them because they told nothing. They did give their website, but it was way old.

I agree that all companies that advertise for MTs need to give their website
How did you come to apply with them? I have never heard of them or seen them advertise.
Wish you the best though
Could someone please explain to me how Focus can advertise for a QC
when they just laid off a bunch of people and told them they had nothing to offer them but transcription?
P.S. - I don't even know why they are allowed to advertise on this board because....sm
their US QA gets audited by guess who???  The team leaders which are not from the US and are based overseas....lovely, eh?
We want companies to advertise - not drive them away.
Please do not mock their offers.

They will advertise and talk hourly, but sm
when the actual offer comes, it is BY LINE ONLY.  M.L. is posting on any web site that will have him about his job openings and they are now so desperate they will take an MT with only 8 months experience.
does Amphion advertise that they now offshore?
nm

they only had 100 pages to type!

I already have a job.  If I were trying to nab a full time job, I would have been more careful, but the woman told me she needed someone to help out ASAP, like this afternoon.... so I squeezed in the typing test during my regular work.  She needs help with 100 reports and then bye bye, so I really didn't think spongebob would make a difference to her.

Look on pages 9, 10, 11 of the archives,
there's more info there too.
Yep saw that. They think 10-15 pages an hour.?? sm
This is to coincide with their proposed hourly pay. They get their calculators out and think HEY this sounds good.

They have absolutely no IDEA how long a page takes and what expertise is involved. $1.10 a page. They equate women with typing and this shows value (under-valued, second class, purchased commodity.
Was I dreaming or did a certain company advertise for ESL MTs at 15 to 20 cpl a week or so ago and

now it's suddenly 9 to 13 cpl?  I tried to take their test and one of the questions they asked was what you were making.

Maybe I was dreaming.  I copied the ads I applied to and that one seems to be missing.

Instead of only applying with companies that advertise heavily,
try Googling for transcription companies, perhaps in your home state, and go to their websites. They usually have a way to apply on their website, and they won't be receiving 300 resumes the same day yours arrives. Send your resume to several and you might hit the timing right with one or two, or perhaps they will keep your resume for when they do have an opening.
Did you see that they want 9 test files done??!! And they advertise as a Global
s
I though offshore companies could not advertise on this site?
Guess I am wrong about that.
I never see any postings about Accuscribe of SC. They evidently don't advertise (sm)
for help much, that could be a good thing.

Any info?
http://www.ustranscription.com/....they advertise on a different job board...nm
;o)
Why do companies advertise for jobs if they have no work?

I lost my job with a big offshoring company a couple of months ago.  I knew it was coming so I started applying for jobs and sending my resume for posted jobs.  The company that hired me responded to my resume submission within 2 HOURS and I was hired the next day.  They had an immediate need, speciality I love, good pay.  Now, a couple of months later I am getting calls and e mails from companies that I applied to months ago.  One recruiter said, I don't know when we received your application, it was probably 90 days ago.  During this same time period I have seen the Q advertise twice, claiming they have steady work (????)  Of course, after reading posts here I would not even consider any offer from them.  A lady from Spheris e mailed and ask that I let her know a time I could interview some time in the next several weeks.

I don't get it.  If you do not have work, why are you posting jobs?  I would consider this a big red flag.

Go thru the last 4 pages here. They have been discussed recently. nm
s
Any way you can search recent pages w/o having to go to each one
xx
Scroll down a couple pages (sm)
There are a few posts about them, nothing good that I saw.  I do remember complaints about not enough work and the owner needing to sharpen up on his communication and people skills.
What? There are a ton of TT MTs posting here. Scroll through the last few pages.
I would estimate that 95% of what you see posted here about TT is positive.
I agree 10 pages to long sm

A while back I applied with a co who sent me a 45 min test file.  I did 20 minutes of the file and sent it back.  I explained that I felt 45 minutes was excessive.  They asked me to work for them.  So you never know.

That being said, I saw WPU's ad  and $1.25 per page is low.  If you haven't done it before, you'll make less than $10 an hour to start.  If you're decent and can do 10 pages in an hour, you'll make 12.50 an hour.  If you're really good and can do 20 pages in an hour, then you're still only making $25 an hour - for being really good - and that's low in my book.  IMO

then why is it not posted on financial web pages?
No info from Forbes, Reuters...
or as soon as you memorize all of those pages on that account
they change your account again.
Job bank used to have 3 or more pages of jobs.
x
I do not believe this: This means that you read 11 pages
in half an hour?
One page has 40 lines.

This is a ridiculous statement.
I bet you cannot even read that fast WITHOUT having to make corrections!!!

It is good to be pro-VR, but don't push it with such hilarious pretenses.
you better check this board, all the pages...
someone posted what they pay, what it was like to work there, etc. do your homework. look b4 you leap.
Transcend does. If you look, they advertise on the Jobs board but they admit that
they send work overseas.
Go to archives, company pg 87. Pages work
