In Reply to: I still don't get how any company - no matter how nice can demand an IC

you want to work the PRN program which allows you to work at 7 c a line anytime you want. Of course, they say regular schedule is 1 day a weekend, and 24 hours turn around, no schedule, but the fact is they expect you to meet your line requirement, so you sit there 24 hours a day scraping for the lines. Due to overhiring, I am assuming. TAT and all. I'd rather have a time I know the work will be there at 8 c a line rather than overhiring and my scraping. Of course 7 cents a line for anytime you want is about the same. Pick and choose what you like. But as an IC they don't have to promise you work to be there at all. It's in the contract. Perhaps this company wants you to work a shift so they don't overhire for coverage. That is my take on things having been there, done that.

You obviously think highly of yourself
I don't know about you, but I am young at 23. I don't sit with books in my face looking at punctuation. I don't speak correctly or think of things like that in a superior way. You think I proof replies to my supervisor? Think again! Do you think she proofs hers? Don't think so. I have seen typos time and time again, but would I criticise her? Absolutely not. It is just rude. Don't put yourself on a pedestel. It makes you look bad in a huge way. You have no right to tell me I am not ready for anything. If I feel I am and my supervisor sure does, what does that make you? Ignorant. You are just upset and try to belittle people to make you feel better about yourself. I play games, I talk to real people, I do normal things, and I do not proof every little thing that comes my way unless it is called for and posting a reply is not called for, in a chat room is not called for, and in an e-mail is not called for either. Personally, I don't care what forum this is to be honest. I don't care if it were the PROOFING FORUM and particularly don't care if it is an MT Forum. Just don't do it. It is not right. No one wants to be judged all the time. I came here for advice and support and it totally backfired. I think this place stinks. No one is consistent. I will look to my supervisor and coworkers for guidance and they have, I am sure, a lot more experience than most of you in the field and they don't act petty and full of themselves. You all should really be ashamed of yourselves.

I am not proofing any replies, nor will I ever. There is no need to unless you are paying me, are you? Didn't think so! So, please proof and keep them to yourselves or perhaps you are the proofer of this forum and are getting paid? Didn't think so. It is a waste of your valuable time. Go get a friend and try not to grammatically correct them, k?

This is not even a place to make friends or to have someone to look to for guidance. This is like an animal war zone where people give crappy all over the place advice and instead of helping, make someone feel bad.

Good luck to all of you on this forum and I will not return. Like I said, I will turn to someone who actually knows what they are doing.

I don't need a raise so we are clear. I was just simply asking if it were ever done and then I opened a whole new can of crappy worms.

The Best Of Luck To All!

Proof Away and No Need To Respond.

Bye
I do and would highly recommend
Always plenty of work, awesome communication, just an overall wonderful company.  I'm going on 2 years with them and have never been happier!  Good luck!
That's why they are highly praised here. NM
.
Highly recommended by someone else...
another MT who I have a lot of respect for who worked for them as an IC in the past highly recommended them to me. Said the owner is great and the work is good. They didn't have what I was looking for at the time but I've kept them on my list for future reference!
QA is highly over rated anyway.

Wow!  Is all I can say to this post.  Who wants to be QA?  Not me.  I'd rather utilize my skills for the entire document, then fix others errors.

I highly recommend . . .
SPi-BPO.

You may have heard that they outsource, but what they actually do is hire people in other countries to do work in those countries.

From numerous conference calls of over 50 people just on my one team, I detected no non-US accents.

(I'm in NC, work out of the Richmond, VA office, and work for agencies in 10 different states.)

Anyway, I don't know what their experience requirement is (and I'm one of those ancient veterans with over 20 years' experience), and I can't seem to find out on their website, though the fact that it does NOT mention a specific experience requirement and the fact that the testing site mentions new grads, it would seem they're more interested in what you know than for how long you've known it.

I'd be surprised if the requirement is all that much because most of the work is disability, mostly psychiatric, some orthopedic, and therefore not so technically dense, if you will.

They even seem like if they do have a policy, they might make an exception if you test well.

Anyway, it's worth checking it out--you can test right on the website.

(Never out of work, very clear dictators, allow use of former reports as templates; full employee status, part-time and full-time, including great benefits--even a few, like 401k, for part-timers, like me; only hire actual MTs as managers, etc.)

Sorry to gush; I really am an MT and not a recruiter, but I've worked for so many lousy companies that it's good finally (again, after 20 years) to be able to highly recommend one.

(And now, in fact, I do need to get back to work--yes, at 1 a.m.--flexible schedules too.)

Check it out:

spi-bpo.com

Good luck, Dawn,

CTT

I highly doubt
I would really like the name of the VP that told you that. I don't believe that anyone at Transcend would tell you they were giving the easy work to the offshore people because that is all they can do.

I don't buy it.
I understand now, but I highly
left if they were all turned in to the IRS.  They all pretty much treat ICs as employees and require line quotas, set hours (even though they say flexible), and often times that you be logged into a messenger of some sort to clock you.  I just went through it, and it was sooooooooo not worth it.  At 8.5 cpl, they can have their messenger and their set (but flexible) hours.  It's almost uncanny how we are treated more like children than either employee or IC, for that matter.
I would highly recommend
them.  Pay always on time and direct deposited.  Work easy and also as long as you do your work in the required TAT, they basically leave you alone.  I would say accept the position, as they are really good to work for.   R
highly subjective
I think work loads are subjective and differ from person to person (account to account). I was hired to do a particular clinic and it was lost. Now I am scraping for work - many days sign on and no work available with repeated request for a replacement account and told there are none. So it really just depends. Some people seem to have adequate work loads and others are struggling with no work. Inconsistent.
As an Andrews grad, I highly
I felt well-prepared when I got my job and never regretted having paid top dollar for my training; as with many things, you truly get what you pay for. In fact, many of the national companies prefer Andrews grads or M-Tec grads as the previous poster mentioned and as a newbie you will need every advantage. Good luck to you.
I doubt very highly its TransTech
After all she said she could use Ctrl I to view sessions statistics but Transtech disabled the ability to use that function.
I speak highly of TransTech, too.

Why would you leave such a great company that offers so much and that you were so pleased of and speak so highly of after you left.

I took Webmedx's course, highly recommend it...
I've been an MT for almost 25 years, but was still quite nervous about the exam. The course helped to keep my attention focused on the task at hand, helped to keep me studying faithfully for the duration of the course until I took the exam. I tend to put things off until the last minute, so the weekly webinars & study materials were invaluable in helping me to study consistently and to stay focused on my goal. Also, I learned a lot! The CMT Review Guide showed me my weak areas, but I concentrated my study time on the Language of Medicine, the 2nd ed. BOS, and an anatomy & physiology text. Also read Human Diseases by John H. Dirckx, MD, but I'm not sure that was very helpful. In the Webmedx prep classes, you'll get a lot of very helpful information & handouts, and the review questions will force you into the books!
I work for them and would recommend them highly. Email me if you
want to ask specific questions. oceansonata@aol.com
I highly doubt these companies are running in the
The other thing is you don't really see the invoicing that goes to the client.  You are paid for what you transcribe.  No one knows what the company is really charging the client.  The client could be paying for spaces, but the company is not paying the MT for spaces, etc.  There are all types of scenarios.  The MT takes the hit, but if you are an MT that has had your own accounts, then you've been there and done that.  With your own account comes more responsibility.  So it sometimes tends to even out.  Others have posted this that it is not so easy to take a week off when you are maintaining your own accounts.  Isn't it so much easier to let an MTSO know you need a week of vacation, come back to work, and everything be just hunky chunky?
I cannot recommend Instant Text highly enough...
Here is a link to many many reasons why...

These will tell you why this program is the best thing that ever happened to my production.
Great company. Would highly recommend!!
Pays on time.  Great owners.  Very helpful.  Nice software.  Flexible schedules.
I highly doubt that it was someone in management posting. sm
They have other ways to communicate with their employees. It bothers me that employees post questions that should go to the office or their lead but still post on here. Go to the source. I work for KS and when I ask a question to my lead, I get an answer not a guess.
I worked for one of the highly touted companies sm
and it was GREAT...until they went overwhelmingly to voice and took entirely too much work away from the traditional MTs to give to voice. This was after they told us it was a CHOICE, but little by little they are forcing the issue with their MTs. It is NOT a choice! They are APPEAR to be somewhat overstaffed at this juncture.

I need to keep my insurance and I do have the belief that this company will come to their senses and nix so much voice. I could be full of it, but I really think they will. They are a hop and a skip from the hospitals complaining because the editing is EXTREMELY poor on the part of the MTs doing it. Time will tell. You will note, this is not bashing the company so much as bashing poor MTs who can't actually do the job put in front of them.

My solution was to go and find another job at a place that didn't want to go to voice at all. I posted my resume on another site and within 24 hours, I was contacted, hired within 48 and scheduled for setup/installation within 72. We are working on some issues, but this seems to be a very nice small to medium company. They are only offering IC, but that is fine since I have the above as well. They are willing to give me all I can stand of what I want and have voiced being pleased to have found me. It is I who am pleased to have found them.

With the state of affairs in America right now with layoffs and what I believe is a deep recession and/or another depression on the horizon, I DO FEEL VERY FORTUNATE to have ONE job and I have TWO. I don't know any other profession where someone who is looking for a job finds one within 24 hours! It has happened to me the last 4 times I looked for work, PT or FT. You betcha I know I am lucky.

Up until now they only hired highly experienced, top-notch
MTs. But, with their recently and drastically-lowered pay scale, that will likely change, and Acusis will become a company of newbies and Indians. Just like the other mega-MT companies out there.
I highly suggest you contact support. AGAIN we are backlogged.
DUH!
I highly doubt that. This is obviously a rumor. She is much too busy to bother. nm
nm
Amphion - I highly recommend this professional, fair company
Best of luck!
Did any of us who left emails hear back from the MT who was highly recommending her
s
Bravo! Great post. I left TT but I will always speak very highly of them.

I left MQ after years and went with a highly rate company on this board (sm)
my account has dried up and I am constantly out of work now...same with backup account.  I like the company I'm with and don't want to leave but I HAVE to have a steady account.  I realize there are slow times of the year but on this account they have overhired and now it's low a lot of the time.
I actually thought of that. I even thought of trying to go back to MQ part-time!! (sm)
I just wonder about hours at a second company.  I work days (and some nights) with this company.  I have a set schedule but with the no work situtation I've been on the computer at all hours of the day and night.  Right now I have no work, so I would love to jump on at a company #2 and start working.  Do you have to have set hours at your company #2?  Thanks for the suggestion.
A thought. sm
Good points. From what I've heard, managers don't have to handle situations exactly the same way as others might. They follow basic company rules and procedures, but you could get different people running things differently depending on their style, preferences, or client needs. MQ offices are like this, too, from my experience.

Maybe it's not favoritism, or misinformation, or conflicting information, but rather just a choice being made. Then again, if there are vastly different methodologies between managers, to the point that it affects the MTs, maybe that does need to be brought to the attention of a higher authority so it can be worked out to the satisfaction of all involved. The managers may not even be aware that they work so differently! Maybe this is something that MTs can address with the managers involved?
Has anyone thought that.....
the office politics we suffer from national MTSOs is WORSE than the office politics you find in hospital medical records departments?  At least in the hospital you run into people and they can't ignore your communications, whereas with nationals they can not only ignore you but they can deny reality.  I don't fault any MT for NEEDING to work at home, but it's not pain-free, there is a heavier downside than commuting (especially when you add in the inferior benefits: vacation, sick leave, etc.)
I thought they might get better, but...
Sorry, you are having a rough time. Are you new to MT or just new to the company? I have to say they do pay well, but it doesn't matter if you don't get paid for all your lines!!! I like the accounts I am on, don't mind ESL, but QA has gotten really bad, very inconsistent. It is hard to get a hold of anyone if you have a problem, too.
sorry, I thought you said w/o
Sorry, thought you said w/o.
I never thought 40% though.
I thought maybe 20% or 25%, so I was shocked with the 40%, and I would not be so angry had they told us ahead of time.  I think it shows what they think of us not to at least tell us on August 1st, but then that is just my opinion.  Some people let others treat them as door mats and don't have a problem with it.  I do have a problem with it and think I deserve better from any employer.
Have you ever thought about....sm
the fact that usually people post only on the forum (and websites like this) only when there's a problem and not when things are going well?  I and others that I know of on my account aren't having the problems that you're talking about (knock on wood!).
just a thought

Does anybody else think that medical transcriptionists and migrant farm workers have a lot in common, such as wages, supervisors and working conditions?   I think the MTSOs and the migrant/illegal worker supervisors have very similar character and personality traits as well as  business practices.  I wonder if they get their training in the same places.

Thanks. I thought that is what that was.
just wanted to make sure.

Sounds like you need to spend less time whining and more time working. You might actually make some money! Boo-hoo.
That's what I thought nm

I read that ad, I finally decided to send that little whipper-snapper an E-mail! I told her obviously she didn't have experience in this business or she wouldn't run an ad like that to begin with! I reminded her this was not entry level clerical work this was a skilled technical profession! I am quite insulted by that whole ad. I also told her that folks like her needed to be booted out of the MT business. That infuriates me. Maybe she will reword her ad or take it off all together! Arghhhhhhhhhhh!
OK, I thought it was just me
I had great training, but then got switched to another hospital and I'm just barely making a dime now. This account is HUGE, there is a ton of work, but the dictators are so stinky you can't make your way through the pile. And, I'm not whining - I've been doing this for 13+ years, do ESL docs on a regular basis, etc., and survived the earlier rounds of awful cherry picking at MQ (and I got stuck in the evenings with all the awful dictation that was skipped), so I'm trying to give Transcend a chance, but right now - it's awful. Then, even if I do get a good shift of dictators, when you have to stop and bold this heading or that heading, or keeping checking the AI sheets because everything is constantly changing ... pretty soon I'm going to need a job flipping burgers to supplement my income. So, still looking, haven't found the right fit yet.
I thought I was the only one. SM

I just started with a hospital at home.   I have over 30 years' experience, have heavy experience with ESL physicians.  I have no content errors, but it's all the hypens and commas and fine tuning.  It is really discouraging to me.  I have always been praised for my work.  The notebook from the hospital was about 4 inches thick and I was supposed to remember it all the first day!   I am not making any money, but worse than that, for the first time in a long time, I am losing confidence.   I can certainly relate.

I thought it was just me
I have tried and tried with them - I live very close to them and thought that would be great, did great on the test, too - but can't get a response from anyone. Maybe it should be questioned by the administrator as they keep posting here and another site for MTs, but has anyone actually been hired by them?
Thanks - I thought it was just me
I got trained on 2 hospitals from this huge account, and they were great! Great dictators, good sound, no problems - then when I went off training, I got put on the other two hospitals for this large account, and I've had nothing but headaches. What a complete mess. The dictators stink, the sound quality is awful and I keep having technical issues, for which you have to E-MAIL tech support and they answer you (usually with more questions) via e-mail maybe 6 hours later. So you've lost your entire shift. The last time I got so fed up, I paged the supervisor of IT. I am so disappointed because my training went so well. I've been hired at two other companies, one PT and one IC, and I will be kissing both MQ and Transcend good-bye. I've since learned, neither are worth the aggravation, or the time and effort.
I thought it was just me.
Interestingly, though, I had a job come through that was 10 hours old -- and one of the crap dictators -- someone must have been sitting on this one. Wonder where those new accounts waiting to come onboard are per their old help wanted ad on MT jobs.
that is enough now...I thought you were
working for this company, or have decided to work for them, just do not understand the debate...

no need to respond, I am not that interested...

good luck
No, I thought you really thought there was a law. :) sm
Yes, laughing is good. Here's hoping we all get a lot more healthy belly laughs in 2006! We deserve them.
I just thought of this...
I would think that you don't even have to know where the money was withdrawn, as long as you can identify the date(s) and amount(s) that she did it on your statement-these transactions always have location numbers to identify where.
Another thought
First of all, that's you. You don't know what her relationship was with the MTSO. Maybe the MT thought they were friends because that's what the MTSO wanted her to think. This particular MTSO does not give you the opportunity to fix your mistakes. Three strikes and you're out, honey. It doesn't matter if you've bent over backwars for her for years. It doesn't matter if those three mistakes happen over a year of you producing 175-200 reports a day. If you do something to tick her off, or she thinks you're lying about a power outage, the internet being down, etc., the client wants you off the account is her way of getting back at you. She thinks you can't make it elsewhee and you'll run back to her. Brilliant way to run a business, isn't it. She may have been ticked off at someone else and took it out on the MT. It happens.

The MT did own it. She came on this board telling what she did. She didn't bash anyone. She told the truth. I admire her courage. Only on this board is bashing synonymous with truth.

Yes, we all make mistakes. Doctors do also. Some of them catch their mistakes and some don't. That's why their malpractice insurance premiums are so high. Does it then become the transcriptionists fault because SHE/HE didn't catch it? They airhead out while they dictate, eat, mumble, don't know correct pronounciation, good English, dictate a mile a minute, talk to someone else, and can't spell. Yes, and it's our job to make them look good and question them when they dictate right at the beginning and left at the end of the report. No one is perfect. Not even you. I had a doctor apologize to me the other day because she couldn't get a complete thought out. Her excuse: I got distracted.

You don't know the whole story, the MT, or the MTSO.

I'm amazed at your lack of compassion and your naivete. I wish you a life that's a breeze: No worries, no elderly/ill parents, no kids to support on your own, no deaths in your family, no jury duty, no internet problems, and no power outages! Oh, and that you are able to schedule all of your appointments on your days off.
I thought so, too, but I keep seeing

big banners for Naukri.com, India's No. 1 Job Site advertising on this site, so who knows?

Not what I thought it was going to be ...
Enough work, yes ... but rules change as you go along. Not very pleased with them right now, and contemplating leaving.
