Sounds like you got kind of the same deal I did at MDI. Several hospitals, none with work. I think being on the west coast messes us up because the people on EST are up so much earlier and can get the work. And yes, I do admit I am a night owl, not a morning lark, so part of it is my own fault. I think the most important thing you said was THE SHIP HAD BEEN SINKING FOR SOME TIME WITHOUT OUR KNOWLEDGE. That is still what chapped me the most. If people want to merge, sell, send work to the moon, that is their own business since they own the company. But I was told time and again that the situation was on the verge of being corrected and would be BACK TO NORMAL soon. I do not regard going into a merger as being back to normal, but maybe I am behind the times. They could not tell us what was really going down because too many of us would have left right then and there. Glad you have a good new gig. I do, too, and I know that there are other new gigs out there for the others as well. It is scary to have to go looking, but it can be done and is being done all time. I hope people do not believe that it is impossible. It is not.

They are out there. My little filler job has kept me chugging along and I am hoping that can continue. Are you getting any of the smoke from the Santa Cruz fires? I saw that on t.v. this morning and was really bummed out. What else can happen to poor old California?

Thanks. It finally picked up a bit! I guess the docs were just getting a slow start today or something. Anyway, it is nice to have some work! Have a nice day.

You will feel so good when you log off that one last time. I did not realize how stressful all of this had been until my final day. Good luck to you!

I know, no more Saturdays for me, either. I can at last spend time with my family! My nephew barely recognizes me, since he has hardly seen me the past year. Just as an aside, my tax accountant tells me it was not legal for them to have us classified as SE/IC and then ask for a specific time commitment for definite hours on Saturday. I am gone, so it makes no nevermind to me, but this info might help those who are still there and having to commit to what hours they will cover on Saturdays. It also might help those who quit or are let go and have to fight the unemployment issue. If you are having to commit to specific hours, even to a couple on Saturday, you are no longer SE/IC but rather become a DE facto employee (with lots more rights than IC/SE). Just a nice piece of info from a pro who does my taxes. It will not affect me at this stage of the same but might help someone else.

Did you see where Kaiser is cutting 1850 jobs in California? Most of these will be clerks, administrative-types jobs, and transcriptionists will be included in them. They have lost 36,000 subscribers in the last quarter due to the recession and many people are losing their insurance. Perhaps you heard this on your news as well, since Kaiser is based out of Oakland. Anyway, this does not bode well for the economy and I do believe that our bum economy has a lot (but not all) to do with the no work situation we are facing. Did you have work today?
