Not putting anyone down for this situation

Posted By: merely suggesting sm on 2009-08-31
In Reply to: RE: MDI taking over board - American Girl

a Transcend board like they did with Medquist (I actually didn't suggest it initially, another OP did, but I agree).

Wouldn't it be nice for all the MDI'ers/Transcenders to have a board to discuss the issues (like they did for Medquist)? Wouldn't you like that? I'd think you would. Why so mean to those who suggest it ... for christsake geeze.

Transtech no work situation putting me in the Salvation Army food line?

This is utterly ridiculous -- NO WORK/LOW WORK.  It is not even the holidays yet.  D. giving the title of an email Census does not make that the reason for the low/no work situation at Transtech!  There are other reasons OTHER THAN CENSUS.  That is so sickening all the time.  The greatest need of us MT's is honesty from their employer --- from the very beginning of employment to the end!

Even a child could see through their excuses for NO WORK.

If you have work at TT, which is doubtful, without putting in MANY extra hours and NOT putting

the correct number of hours on your timesheet -- that is stealing work from the other MT's !  Also you are giving false information on your timesheet, which TT will eventually get into trouble for allowing you to do -- just like the Q got into trouble!

You are obviously taking the only halfway decent dictators from other MT's.  Makes me sick that the leads/supes/mgmt-type people transcribe and take the cream of the crop from the MT's !  That should NOT BE ALLOWED by TT mgmt AT ALL  !! !

It is DEFINITELY going on tho.  TT management, you need to STOP this practice and share the fairly decent dictators with EVERYONE !

When I was hired on a number of years ago, I was told that TT had 35% ESL's.  What a JOKE and untruth !

they could fix that by putting a sm
minimum line count per month in your contract. The problem with that is, if they run out of work, then you could hold THEM to the line count minimum. I have had companies tell me that it was not cost effective to let ICs work without a line count minimum. That is why, years ago, companies started doing the statutory employee category. SE status gives them more legal control but for the SE the taxes work out better. You don't see many companies that are doing SE status anymore.
When it all comes down to it, does putting
something on the wrong board really affect your life in a great way???? Chill out.
who is putting you down? we were just responding

putting it that way, you're right

my dear
Did you try putting your resume up?
I've gotten many offers just from having my resume up here.
never mind-sorry was putting
an e in the middle! Thanks!
So this is the program they are putting all of us on?
I would suggest asking your supervisor, but they will only lie or give you some explantion that makes absolutely no sense.
LOL. I actually agree about BOS. Just putting it out
However, no matter how you slice it, there is NO CHANGE in the line counts with 1 space vs. 2 spaces at the end of sentences, so how are MTs losing money, and how is the MTSO making money (no matter how many MTs or reports are involved)???

Run your own line counts if you don't believe. At least verify its validity before ranting about it. I know it's easier to just complain but people are getting far too excited and outraged over something that is inconsequential.
Love it as well. Thanks for putting so much (
time and effort into your post. I just hope that it produces positive results for all MTs. We are SO under appreciated, not to mention underpaid.
verbatim should NOT mean putting in errors: SM
As a QA, this is how I pass on the guidelines (and verbatim is usually requested by the client, NOT QA!):

Verbatim means: Transcribe what the physician says but correct obvious punctuation, spelling, and grammar errors - like "there is 3 moles."

Headings and exams are transcribed when and as dictated, not adding in headings, not changing PHYSICAL EXAMINATION: to OBJECTIVE:, "rearranging" the report, or changing an exam dictated in paragraph to block format.

You do not add additional words to clipped sentences in clinical notes. If the doc says "A 56-year-old patient," you don't transcribe "This is a 56-year-old patient."

If the doc says right leg in one place and left leg in another, a blank is left and it goes to the clinic for resolution.

If a medication is spelled and you can't verify it, it is blanked and goes to QA. If we can't verify it, it goes to the clinic for resolution.

Verbatim should NEVER mean transcribing errors like have been described here, at least IMO.
Debra McNair keeps putting her ads up there
I sent my resume in the day she put that ad up there and not so much as an acknowledgement that she received it.

Poor business skills.

Abrasive is such a nice way of putting it lol
She ALWAYS has a lot going on. So do the rest of us.

I did employee first, insurance was over 750 a month for me and two kids so I switched to IC and was given horrible pay but so was their employee pay. I only worked for them because my old department was completely outsourced to them. It was a waste of my time, that's for sure. I had DD as well and yet it was still screwed up all the time.

Too bad because they had easy accounts.
You are putting words in my mouth....sm
so to speak. I never said I have not looked for work while employed or looked for better benefits, platform, etc. And of course I have found companies where the negatives outweighed the positives and caused me to look for work elsewhere. There is nothing wrong with that. What I am against is an MT purposely hiring on simultaneously with multiple companies to weed out those she/he finds unacceptable. To me, that is highly unethical, and I am quite sure most MT companies would agree. In fact, there are some companies that prohibit working for other companies while in their employ.

My whole intent and purpose in posting originally was the hope of shedding a different light on the MT profession, but apparently there are so many here who are so bitter and angry that they refuse to see any other side but their own. Bitterness is a vicious animal that will eat away at you, leaving one empty and desolate while the object of one's bitterness remains unscathed. Do you really think that is the solution to the MT industry's problems?

Not enough for the stress they're putting me through . See msg
From what I've read in the past, and my experience, they pay anywhere from 7 cpl to 10 CPL (I personally make 8 CPL with 10 years experience, no raises since I started there despite numerous requests for one). THIS IS FOR STRAIGHT TRANSCRIPTION. Most of us work on ASR now (voice recognition) which pays 70% of your pay (example, I make 0.56 CPL for ASR). I have lost a LOT of money since ASR began. I average around 150 lines per hour for ASR. I averaged around 250 lines per hour with straight transcription. In other words, I made around $20/hr before ASR, now I make $8.40/hr, just above minimum wage in my state.

I only work flex-part time now for MQ and work full time somewhere else that pays fairly with NO ASR and NO outsourcing outside of the U.S.

It is my strong belief, after 10 years of working for MQ, that we will all lose our jobs soon now that the board of directors is Indian based. Believe it or not, they can pay Indian workers even less than they pay us.

Yes, they pay shift differential, 0.5 CPL more for evening shift, 1 CPL more for night shift.

A slew of workers have left since the news so it is my belief that's why they're hiring now. If you're interested in a short-term job, fine. Good luck though.

THIS IS MY OPINION ONLY.
Oh relax, wasn't putting anyone down.

putting aside the other's sage advice based on

their own personal experiences and putting aside George's opinion that we are all misinformed, you need to take care of yourself.  I couldn't go 2 days without the company I commit my time to not sending work to me, much less one month!  How would I explain that to the mortgage company?  Yeah, I was just going to go ahead and wait it out.  Say, could you just not expect a payment from me until I hear from Sten-Tel?  Okie Dokie then!  Great!

All kidding aside, take care of yourself.  If they don't care about you or even taking care of their own business, it is the wrong place for you.  You're in this to make money, right?  I don't know if you are a newbie or experienced but if you want to earn money, there are other places to go.

man. I am 32, started putting money in a 401k

when I was 25.  I have a good years salary saved in that already.  I will be thanking myself when I am 65.  I see my dad and MIL struggle both with just SS.   My company matches.  It is pretaxed.  The more I put in the less I get taxed for at the end of the year which also means a bigger tax return.  Believe me, 401ks are good things especially if the company matches.

Wonderful news for Trans Tech employees.  I am happy for ya.

Come on gals...the compensation..ah...putting it tamely...>>
IT stinks! It's becoming worse, if that is possible. There is a better way of compensating MT employees, take into consideration, naturally primary, education, et cetera. I think I mentioned it here before, but I do not recollect having received a response.
Some thing HAS to be done, and soon. For we, the ole' timers, like the actual hands-on approach, and it is still FUN! That's what it's all about and really should be, Job=Fun, as it also appears to me. Let's not lose it to a bunch of unpredictable terminators. javascript:editor_insertHTML('text','');

you are putting on your "big girl" panties?
that is way too much information.

You are condescending and post like a plant.

This really isn't a flame, it's more of a comment about the tone of your post.

No matter what the situation is at MDI, and how you feel about it, your tone is rude.

If your "effort" involves putting people down
because they have to continue to work a job to support and feed their family, even though the company has questionable ethics, then, yeah, go ahead and stop your efforts!  That doesn't help anyone!
Flames? Putting on my flame retardant suit. sm
So what if some are happy and express their feelings about a company.  If given the companies and the reasons, each of us can use this info as we need to.  The remarks that just say Stay away don't help anyone.  In fact, makes me wonder what the poster did that contributed to the bad remark.  If someone disagrees with your reaction to a company and flames you or if you get flamed for giving reasons, seems to me you are getting flamed one way of the other.  Might as well give reasons and help educate the rest of us.  And no one knows who you are, what do you care about the flames?  Actually, when I get flamed, I have to smile a little to think about how I got everyone excited for a few minutes.
I love putting my counts in, because I can see what I am making at any given time

The system will calculate your pay and it is really neat.  My last company just paid me from counts they obtained from the hospital and I had no way to check it.   It takes 3 minutes (or less) to enter the line counts and it has made a big difference to me.

Transcend is a great company, I have seen (and been with) a lot of bad ones.  I consider Time Trax to be an advantage over the rest.

How do you get paid now - do you trust your company to tell you your lines?

Putting on Nehru jackets and flowers in my hair

Interesting - my birthday is Saturday and it will be even more interesting to see what this year holds.  Even with the economic mess that our country is mired in, it is a blessing for me to wake up every morning, come to work and live to see another day if God wills it.  Happy Valentine's Day to all of you and have a good weekend.

I think you would be doing good to find a reputable company, much less by putting qualifiers
:+
I am not putting my paycheck into someone else's hands. I worked for a company that had non-Ameri
QA staff doing your QA audits and you were docked accordingly. No thanks. I quit that job when I realized that I was putting my check in their hands. As you noted, there is always a debate and inconsistency even among QA so why take a chance.
She started this whole thing by putting her oh so 'benevolent' letter on this board
Who are you? A coworker?
I passed the MQ test with flying colors putting 2 spaces
after a period, so I don't think that's why you failed.

I've ALWAYS put 2 spaces. That's how we were trained, and that's always been the correct way to type a document. I'm so sick of the BOS's bull, though the company I'm with now follows BOS, but we all put 2 spaces still.
Putting out the word, AccuSTAT Wisconsin is hiring for Basic 4 - Ops. They have their webiste up

and now offering direct deposit.   This is a great company to work for.  It is not associated or affiliated with any other AccuSTAT nor does it have branches anywhere outside of Wisconsin.  The MTSO is very responsible, professional, and caring, which is something that you can't really find around anymore, including flexibility, something a lot of us look for, especially those of us with children.   There is plenty of work and you use  Softmed aka Chartscript headers and a C-phone to transcribe.  The dictators are great and very little, if any, ESL, and those do speak very good English.   I have been with this company now for 6 years, and I can assure you that I would not  think of working anywhere else.  Flexibility, pay on time, direct deposit, good dictators, and a responsible, caring, and professional MTSO are on the top of my list!

Are you a senior/mature MT? I think they are putting health insurance costs into hiring process

These companies can get CHEAP labor because some girls have small children and husbands and will sell themselves short when it comes to $$$$$.   With the offshoring and some U.S. MT's working for less than, that has destroyed any hope of a good wage or especially a raise.

Stop putting up with adults who are children. It is IRRESPONSIBLE to go to a payday loan place. sm
As transcriptionists, we have options. We can take on more work with the company we are with, move to another company, get a second job, get our own accounts.

If everyone would be mature and take responsibility for themselves, there would be no problems.

By the way, for your information, I AM A SINGLE MOTHER OF 3 WONDERFUL CHILDREN and I have been for many years. Transcription allowed me to buy a house, pay my bills and be able to buy nice things. I knew when I was getting divorced that I either needed to cut corners or earn more. I did both. My kids and I live in a nice home but my girls share a room and my son has his own. I pay cash for cars and drive them until they cannot be driven or are not safe. We eat at home with home-cooked meals rather than eating out, except when celebrating something like a birthday or good report cards or an award one of them receives. They have nice clothese, a clean house and everything they need. I work while they are in school but make every minute of my work day count, and I have an extra job that I work on weekends in the early mornings when they are sleeping and evenings when they are asleep. We have friends, go to church and have a close family. I have never had child support and have never had to be on welfare.

I budget carefully and have a savings account. I only make 35,000 a year on average but I make it work.

Excuses are just that. People need to do for themselves. If they have medical issues or a tragedy, that's one thing, but so many of the people I have worked with just spend all their time whining and none of that time making their lives better.

I am not going to apologize. I am not a mean person, just tired of hearing people complain about EVERYTHING in this profession. Yes, it has changed, but we still have options. Many other fields do not.
Yep--same situation for me.

I just dread the thought of being yelled at, and then probably fired, because I can't keep a schedule.  I work when kids are watching a TV show, or taking a nap, or a neighborhood kid drops in to babysit, or dinner is taking extra long so I can squeeze in a couple more reports. Like you, THAT is why I've been with MQ for almost seven years now!

I feel like crying.

I just had this same situation come up - sm
I simply explained to the company that I would rather my present employer not be contacted at this time, since they are not aware that I am looking. I have another reference, so I hope it isn't going to be a problem. But like you, if things don't pan out with this company and I end up staying where I am, I definitely don't want any problems.
This is my situation.

I am a hospital employee thinking of going national mainly due to the drive though. There is plenty of work though and when the work is low which is rare, we file, the ones that know how code, code, sometimes we can help out with Release of Info (ROI), or do other things until there is more work so you are always getting paid. Great bennies too at my hospital too, tons of PTO time that a person can cash in.

The down side is that certain ones can get away with turning in crap work all the time. thers if they make one little mistake it is magnified and made to feel like they are the worst Transcriptionist in the world. Some are allowed to cherry pick and others get stuck with the worst dictators. Also a problem is that I am in an office with newbies who don’t have to worry about production (rest of us do) and they act like children, literally. Sing songs out loud, shoot rubber bands at each other, the phone where family and friends can call on rings off the wall. I also have a loud speaker over my head where the operator comes on and says “DR SMITH call 99999 or whatever.” I don’t fit into the little cliques.  I cannot afford fancy clothes and I cannot afford to go out and eat once or twice a week, I have go to home and cook supper as I have two small children to feed.

I'm in the same situation - someone took all my
call me. I followed the employee manual and sent an email as my first step in problem resolution to my account supe (who never returns emails). And this is a new job I took because of the very same thing happening at the last one, with assurances that I would NEVER have this problem here!
Am not sure what the situation is. SM
If this is a local hospital, I was welcomed with open arms on no more than a medical terminology course, although that was years ago.  There is no better training than the one-on-one I received there.  Sometimes you will find there are people available to help you until you can get up to speed.  Even in a local doctor's office, you may not be on your own for awhile.  If you're not sure about the situation, don't hesitate to apply, and there is no need to mention your lack of experience.  I imagine it will show up on your resume, so they will know exactly what they are getting.  If you get to the interview stage, that would be the time to ask about training, what exactly is expected, how long you have to learn all you need to know, who is available to help, etc. Good luck whatever your decision.
my situation... c msg
I'm an actual full-time employee for two merged hospitals. Full benefits. also includes radiology. I went home 1-1/2 years ago. pay is 20/hr. The minimum production is 75 minutes plus 0.50/min after 80 minutes. all equipment provided including second phone line and internet connection. We do have outside vendors that back us up, but we have majority of the work. I'm happy with my position. Unfortunately the hospital itself is making cuts and the transcription department is one of its targets, although they haven't touched us yet. One of our vendors are now doing most of the work for one of our hospitals, so I am considering asking my boss to hire me as an IC.

I say take the job if you have more pluses than minuses, but remember, hospitals do lay off so have a back up plan. Good luck to you.
I don't think I would like that situation...

I think you should be able to see how many reports you did and line count for each.  I've had instances where a report I sent was missing from my total, and I would never have known if I wasn't able to get that detailed info.  I have always kept a log, also, of all job numbers to compare.  Maybe there would be some way you could check the line count for each report before you sent it and write it down and then compare the total to what shows up? but that would be a pain!

Your's is a different situation
than mine of course, and so we have different concerns.  I really do not know much about them, as the people who merged with MD-IT, who I will be working for, are very new to MD-IT (June of this year), and they really cannot give me many answers to my questions.  This is what concerns me the most!  MD-IT may be fine itself, but I am worried about the branch of it that I am dealing with.  Let me know if you would what you find out about them, and I will do the same on my end!  Good luck with whatever you decide to do!!!!
Yes, same situation here also

You don't know the situation...
shut up until you do. It is not up to supervisors to train someone how to be an MT, they are only responsible for showing them how to use the software platform, unless they teach a transcription class. Companies hire MTs that have had years of experience, like duh. These were stupid errors only first-year MTs would make and this woman had more years of MT experience than me and still made them.

It's not my responsibility to teach MTs medical terminology and spelling. They should already know.
Sad situation...

I am currently working for a company that acquired business here, only to eventually send it all overseas. I'm just counting the days before I’m given the boot...  I hope and pray that our next president makes it very unpleasant for companies who do this to Americans. What goes around comes around and you get what you pay for!  Let's see how long the clients stick around with the quality issues you will soon be faced with. I am very disappointed because I thought I was a valued employee... silly me!

It's a sad situation...
Most of us expect not to be given raises...but I think that should change. It makes no sense to be at a company 2, 5, 10, 15, 20, and so on years and never be given a raise. It doesn't happen in other professions, does it?
