OP - I was assuming you meant to STAY employed and get unemployment for the weeks...

Posted By: HopeThisHelps on 2009-06-29
In Reply to: It might differ slightly in each state but - sm - poorbeach

She does not make her lines. Not quit or be fired and unemployment. That is self-explanatory.

To OP - My post was for partial employment or underemployment; i.e., keeping your job but filing for benefits.

Sorry if I was confusing! LOL

By "regular pay cycle", I meant every 2 weeks or
!!
Yes, they offer I think 4 weeks at full pay or 8 weeks at half pay. Call the office
and talk to them about it. You wont lose your job. They aren't like that.
You are assuming
that the costs the service outline in their contract are stated up front and complete. You are neglecting to mention the "hidden" costs that services often avail themselves of, not to mention overcharging is rampant in this industry (just as MQ).  There are not enough controls on the transcription service industry, most particularly the megacompanies, like MQ.  When they were caught overcharging, it was a wakeup call to a lot of institutions, and they were also caught underpaying some of their MTs. I believe that lawsuit is still ongoing.  I used to believe the line that services were more cost effective, however, hosptial MTs were I work only make $11.00 an hour.  They also pay part of the benefits.  Many MTSOs offer these same benefits to their workforce and the MTs are making far more. How do you reconcile those numbers?  The money is coming from somewhere.  MTSOs are not in business to lose money.
How many MT's are employed there?
Just out of curiosity, wonder how big they are.  Don't want to get with one of the biggies!  Is there a great turnover with MT's?
Without pay I'm Assuming
In my 24 years in the work force I have yet to find an employer who would not do the exact same thing under these circumstances. Unless DeVenture gave you an advance on paid time off, which I didn't see in your comments, I wouldn't consider them any different than any other employer.
currently employed
i currently work for above-mentioned company and have no problems with my paychecks.  all i will say is don't believe everything you read.  it's easy to post things on a website to hurt the reputation of others.  it's called slander!  people get disgruntled for one reason or another, and instead of taking it up with the person they should deal with, they figure it's easier to try to attack and hurt others by attacking them publically.  grow up.  this isn't third grade.
I am employed by DR--
Some people are actually employees and some are hired by DR to work for hospitals.  I'm happy with them.  I wish my line rate were higher, but I have a relatively easy account with constant work.  I'd rather have that than a high line rate with a terrible account and no work.
And you are assuming
that even in this day of a bad economy, the company is not ever raising their charge to the client or don't make more profit off a seasoned and dedicated employee??? Come on now.  Its called greed.
Still a lot of assuming going on.

First off, I agree with you about what type of company is the best bet for good pay, steady work flow, etc.  Small American-MT-only company that doesn't overhire. That's where I am now.

Secondly, the post previous to yours contains the incorrect assumption that those of us who are happy are only happy because we didn't experience the good old days.  I made between 30 and 35,000 for quite a number of years working about 5-hour days.  Thankfully I was able to have my babies and get them out of diapers during that time.  I was with that very, very small local company for about 13 years, then we lost the account.  (Ironically, the account was lost to the company that I'm so happy with now.)  The next 2 years I had an awesome account at MQ, M-F 8-5.  My bring-home was 1600-1800 every 2 weeks.  Then they started with their downhill decline and overhired for the account, which had been perfectly staffed, and I began running out of work all the time.  I floundered for a couple of years, trying new companies right and left and at times working 3 different jobs to be certain I would not run out of work.  The stress was ridiculous and no, I was not happy.

Now I am working for my original local company about 4-5 hours a day (they just asked me to go to full-time, but I can't) and about 5 hours a day for the small national that has been such a great fit for me.  I don't like working 50 hours a week, but I'll make over $60,000 this year.  My oldest starts college in the fall, so I can't slack off now.  My only scheduled time off is Friday morning (I work 2nd shift for the local company) and all day Saturday.

I am actually making less per hour than I did 10 years ago, down from about $30 to $25 and hour, but after all I have been through the past 3-4 years, I'll take what I have right now and call myself blessed.  I'll be the first to say it is not easy finding a good company because it sure took me a while.  But it is not impossible.

If you are unhappy, keep looking!  Don't give up!  If my situation changes and I lose my account or my QA starts getting nutty or I have to take a pay cut, I'll start looking all over again, too.  I sure hope I can stay put for awhile, but nothing is certain in this profession.

Blessings upon us all.

*someone* is ASSuming here! sm
You do not know at all that this person *applied* for this job at all. Maybe she has her resume posted some place and it was in response to that. It does not sound at all like she has *tested* for anything yet. Some of you people are so quick to jump to conclusions and down someone's throat! Get a grip and stop being so nasty all the time!
My, my, assuming again I see
If a person likes their job and can make good money with their pay, then all are feeding back? I am saying again, when you assume you are usually wrong and here you go again. I do not like to have any dealings with the person who owns my company, always busy with ruffled feathers. If you are not happy, try something else.
I am not assuming they are right

about only that I probably did read it at some point.  But I feel the same as you as far as caring about the drama.  There's drama all over this board everywhere you look.

My point is that we don't need to take sides.  It's not something we need to be involved with and yes people may decide they don't want to work for that company but they can also decide they don't want to work for a company because they don't pay for spaces.  It's one in the same in my eyes.  Not every situation suits each person.

Trust me when I say that posters will think twice when responding to company info requests.  They will think long and hard before posting.  So, in essence, TT got exactly what they wanted if in fact they really did sue this poster.  They got us awake here on this board and to watch our P's and Q's...  Have a great day!

Of course we want to support our fellow MT but not at the expense of our own jobs.  We try to help one another and then the bashing begins but who is to say that someone working for one company thinks they are spectacular and someone else didn't truly have that bad experience?  I've seen where people beg others to state the company name where it is so great so they can apply, too.  Then all of a sudden a company is accused of overhiring.  TT had a great reputation here, and now all of this has sent things spiraling on the basis of one poster's experience, just one poster has caused all of these threads to be neverending and we don't even know that poster or if anything she says is true or false now do we?

You are assuming that I am taking a side, and that's your assumption just from reading my post.  There's a lot to be desired in assuming.

Companies have the right to look at posts and post here all they want as several have done.  This is a public forum.

As a matter of fact, I could be gourdpainter for all you know...  see what I mean?  It's one of those things where we take what we read with a grain of salt.

Employed by them several years...
I think they are great to work for. Office personal is great to work with, very helpful. Pay is there when they say it will be, never a problem there. I have worked several years for them and my pay has NEVER been 6 to 8 cents. I enjoy my work. Very, very few ESL's on my account.
Yes, still gainfully employed... sm
... and business as usual, just a different company name on the paychecks. Thank you for asking! Life is good! :-)
self-employed getting a raise
But with MT it's a little bit of a sticky wicket. We are self employed, BUT if we are working as an IC for a company we are really at their mercy, and I'm sure, as some above posters mentioned, the companies we work for are getting raises from their clients, so one would think that $$ would naturally be passed on down. Of course, we can ask for a raise, but they can say no, and then what? If we are happy with the company we are with do we just suck it up and hope for a raise tomorrow/next year? In my opinion, if we've got the experience under our belt, turn in consistently quality work, and our company is constantly praising us, seems to me they should do the offering of a raise. But unfortunately that just is not happening.
Employed since 2003
I like working with them. We have just recently merged with MD-IT so I don't know a whole lot about the new company but MTSource was great. Whether MD-IT will influence and make changes is something that I don't know. So far - so good. You can use Instant Text but only the latest version.
I am assuming the 0.075 is a typo?

I do BUT I am employed by a hospital...SM

making an hourly wage plus incentive.  However, I own my home and do not have a house payment (an insurance settlement allowed me to pay off my house) or a car payment (I do not drive a fancy car).  I also live in the midwest where the cost of living is lower than on the coasts.  I have two kids.  My monthly expenses are utilities, groceries, and stuff the kids need.  We do okay.  I'm not one of those people that lives above their means.  I have a 50+ year old home that we are fixing up when we have extra money.  I drive a 2000 Chevy Cavalier that is paid off and has a couple of dents from some fender benders, but looks decent.

My husband is disabled and hasn't worked since he was discharged from active duty in 2005.  We are in the process for filing a disability claim for him, but it's such a process.  So he brings in no income whatsoever.  He he is my house-husband.  He does the housework, the laundry, runs the kids to school and picks them up, and even occasionally cooks dinner.  He also is a great auto mechanic and keeps my car running for me.

I just wanted to give you my background because one of my biggest pet peeves is people who post on here how they make $60,000 a year as an MT and neglect to give the little details like they are chained to the computer 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

I'll be honest, at 8 cpl, there is no way my family could live on that unless I slept at my computer and had a commode as my desk chair!  I'm lucky that I have the job I have and we've managed to cut costs where we can.

My sister is an RN and has been for 20 years and she makes really good money.  Between her and husband's salaries, they pull in at least $100,000 a year and they are in debt up to their eyeballs.  They have trouble making their house payment every month.  They have a truck and a car payment that are constantly late.  Creditors are calling them nonstop for credit card bills they can't pay.  All because they felt they needed to live in the fanciest house and drive the newest, fanciest cars, and spend, spend, spend.

I don't live in a big fancy house or drive a fancy car, but I'm pretty content and I don't have the financial stress to deal with most of the time.  My kids want for nothing and I am occasionally able spoil them.

sound like you are employed with
tt-that's their style
What's arrogant is your assuming that other MTs in a bad
situation with this company are there because they've somehow not kept up with the times and have become dinosaurs. I'm on ASR, I'm certified out the wazoo, I to go the conventions, I am active in the industry. Guess what? No dinosaur here, and my job has changed for the worse. I've done literally everything I can do to climb in this company and make more money, and it's been impossible so far. My pay isn't climbing either. When it comes down to where the rubber meets the road, the fact is I need an income that brings in enough money to meet my bills. If I'm doing everything right here and it's not, then the problem lies with the company. The timing of when to leave is the dilemma. Things can get better at companies, but if they do, sometimes it takes years. Sometimes they never get better.
Since we're all ICs, I'm assuming not.
Maybe someone who has been there longer can correct this perception if I'm wrong.
not that I know of; employed there awhile.

They're assuming...
That you're not fast enough to get the top tier of the bonus plan without their lovely ISR that will make you such a better producer. If you can already reach the top tier of the bonus plan with straight transcription, you have nothing to gain and everything to lose.
I can't afford to stay with VR. If they paid more, I'd stay.
The situation sucks. I really liked this company when I started there. I know they read these forums, and they are aware that we are unhappy over VR line rates. They stroke us with cute emails and say we're the best, but I can't feed my family on praise. They're turning into another MedQuist, and so I'll be leaving.
You're incorrect in assuming that....sm

the reports that aren't edited are the "garbage" dictations.  I currently edit on an account that has switched to editing and we have dictators that are new to the hospital that aren't on editing yet - and they talk just fine.... and we have 1 dictator who dictates very well but isn't on editing but has been at the hospital for a long time because this dictator has a PA that oftentimes dictates on their ID# and the voice profiles get confused about who is talking when this happens.

I also know people that edit at other companies that say that not all of the reports are on editing for these types of reasons - so to presume that if a dictation isn't being presented in a draft is because it's a lousy dictator is untrue.  I've also seen some real bad dictators go through the drafts with excellent draft quality - and fot those types of reports you NEVER hear a Transcriptionist complain "but I didn't have to listen to Dr. XYZ yap at 75 miles per hour - the system did it for me and I got paid anyway!"

We're ASSUMING this leak came from a QT MT sm
however, it could be from that poster who doesn't work at QT--an outside agitator.
You are employed by the wrong company
x
Not recently employed there but here is my input
I worked for them about 4 or 5 years ago.  Thought the pay was low but it was my first MT job so to me it was good.   Pay was always on time and accurate.  They do not pay for errors.  Did not like their schedule and I wanted a more flexible schedule.  Like I said this is from 4 or 5 years ago.  Things may have changed.  Overall, a nice person to work for.
If you're self-employed and don't pay quarterly,
xx
Would you be talking about CS? I am newly employed by them and they have
the same thing. The techs interrupt me nearly every day to get into my computer and change the templates too. This has happened every single day up to today. Today is the first day I have not gotten an instant message asking to me allowed into my computer to change the stupid templates. I don't know how much longer I am going to stay. I am having a terrible time getting any kind of decent line count.
Sounds like being self-employed, no time to die.
Time off for the self-employed is the same except they'll find another service and replace you if you miss one day. No hearts.
I am only assuming that is the account they are hiring for. (sm)
I know I saw a memo stating there was a large response of those of us wanting to work that account. Maybe they just filled the shifts we were willing to work and are hiring for other shifts. I really don't know. Just trying to be optimistic.

It's the FL Hospital account, not employed by

I posted the more balanced view post and someone else followed up after your response.

We have as much right to state our opinion, too, you know.

It's as viable of an opinion as anyone else's here!

I've seen a lot of managers come and go, so assuming MTs do too! nm

ASSUMING makes one look stoopid
You'd be willing to bet WHAT?

Seriously you don't diddly about the OP, but you are willing to bet that they are 'guilty' of A, B, and C - which then justifies another lecture - in your mind.

WHAT IS IT about you - and others who posted similar sentiments - that makes you think you can judge another whose shoes you have never walked in - and whom you know nothing about?

So did I disappoint you? Let's see if you can answer my post and its questions - instead of 'blessing' us with another harangue.

Yes, my husband is self-employed so we have individual plans but...
the preminums keep going up and up. I realize they also do when you work for a company, but since they get a group rate, the hit isnt as hard as when you are self-employed. Once you have a medical condition and your self-employed, the rates are horrible. I am going to check into some of our plans here locally just to see. My husband and kids are on their own individiual plans and they do have a copay but all we could afford was the cheapest plan which does not cover a lot and like I said every year we get hit with higher preminums just to end up with less coverage. It is very discouraging.
Anyone self-employed doesn't get a raise unless they give

You're assuming this is a sweetheart dictator ... sm

With a good dictator that knows what he/she wants to say and says it, without all the ...uh....ah....mmmm.....ah.....ugh, ad nauseum... rudely shuffles papers while you're waiting for the next sound ... without the courtesy of shutting the machine off while they steal even more of your time....yes, without all this inconsiderate behavior on the part of dictators...the above equation would probably be correct.

I am assuming that the Bait and Switch tactic
people smell the coffee and leave. That is just IMHO. Of course, if you don't make that great sign on bonus, and you decide to stay for making about 300.00 a week is your thing, then go for it.
With that attitude, I'm surprised you're employed!
Paranoid much? Maybe you need some anger management,,,,
Stop ASSUMING and judging and blaming
Who are YOU to say why people may need the services of a payday loan place?

YOU really need to apologize: Before you accuse, ridicule and abuse, TAKE A WALK IN THEIR SHOES.

It was not meant to be nasty. I meant that you should take every job seriously. Just because someo
is their focus does not mean that patients should suffer. 96% accuracy could mean the difference to someone who is on the receiving end of that report. I am NOT QA or management but I am an experienced Transcriptionist who believes that the reports we transcribe need to be accurate for the patient's sake.
