Couldn't you just ship it back yourself?
Fedex or UPS could probably ship it back for $30-40, is my guess.
Oh my back at you. You sound like someone
the economy, tax structures, investments and business enterprise!

Who do you think owns the companies we work for and shop at? Who do you think puts up the money so they can go into business?

It certainly is not done with the generous donations by the middle and poor working class. The monies are provided by those who have it. There is no incentive to invest back into the job market through businesses, etc., without a tax advantage to it.

If you have never had money to invest and understand the taxing principles, you probably will never understand why those advantages and reliefs are offered.

If you look back in the archives people left when they realized they couldn't make money with it.

I used to have a QA guy that couldn't transcribe, couldn't fill in a blank,

but was anal retentive when it came to punctuation.  You would have a report with 10 blanks in it because of poor sound quality, and he wouldn't fill in one blank, but he had put commas all throughout your report, or taken apostrophes out, etc. and he wasn't correct in his punctuation a lot of the time.   Several of the MTs complained about him and asked to not have him do their QA, so he was demoted from QA to an MT.  Well, as I said earlier, he couldn't fill in a blank.  I saw a couple of his reports and there was blank after blank in reports that I had no trouble with at all.  He also didn't proof his reports because he would have inapproriate/incorrect expansions in them.  Not sure if he left on his own, or didn't really have a choice.  Anyway, talk to your supervisor.  Maybe this person is just on a power trip, knows you are new and wants to train you to do it her way, even if your way isn't incorrect.  I think punctuation is a valid issue, but if it doesn't change the integrity of the report and there are no other errors it shouldn't be flagged by QA.    You could also take into account her corrections and maybe try to use a few more commas, etc. and that might help.

Oh, I couldn't understand them. I didn't try them all, but the first couple, I couldn't und

Are you sure the sound quality was the platform and not your sound card? Also, I don't know of ma

services that pay "down time" if the platform is inoperational.  ALL software has its share of problems.  It's the nature of the business.  When you were hired, did you sign a contract accepting the terms regarding PTO?  If so, what could you possibly complain about since you did, afterall, sign the agreement?  Did you have a good relationship with your QA Editor/Team Leader that you could ask questions about account specifics?

My understanding of the VR is that it has been in development for a number of years not to be released until the fine tuning was complete.  It would seem to me, and I am in no way affiliated with Transcend, that provided that VR is good then earning a line rate as an Editor would be beneficial, if that's how Transcend is planning to compensate.

All in all, I would say that if anyone is interested in working for Transcend or any service for that matter, make sure to ask the services Recruiter specific questions.  If what you're hearing sounds good and makes sense, go for it.  If what your'e hearing is not all that you thought it would be, move on.  However, you MUST take what you read on forums boards with a grain of salt.  While some posts regarding various services may be legitimate, others may not be.

Good Luck!

I worked in QA for Transcending back in 2000-2001. They were paying hourly back then. SM

The accounts weren't too horribly bad.  The reason I ended up leaving was because slowly but surely they began to inch closer and closer to paying QA by production.  When I first started, the quota was something like 30 reports a day.   We simply had to make sure that we QA'd all reports that were close to being out of TAT first and then do the rest.  Then, my supervisor left and they hired a new one who immediately called a big teleconference meeting and said we had to up production to 60 reports a day.  Then, they started counting lines.  Which was fine because they were still paying hourly.

Next, there was an MT who used VR software because she was blind - yes blind.  Again, when I first started, I was told we had to edit her entire reports because she used the VR software and we had to make sure that everything was correct and made sense.  Then, we are told only check the blanks.  I wasn't comfortable with that and I continued to completely proof every word.  Then I was called on the carpet not because I wasn't meeting the production quota, but because I was ONLY meeting the production quota.  I told them I was proofing all of the MT's work that used VR, I was told that no one ever told me to proof every word of the VR reports and that I needed to fill in blanks and move on.  When I voiced my concerns, I was told that was my job, to fill in blanks and I should move on and strive to product above the standards.  Next thing you know, rumors abounded about changing the QA staff to being paid on production.  So I left.

There just seemed to me to be too little concern for quality and more emphasis on quantity and I just didn't want to be part of company who would take money out of my pocket just to line their own and that's what they were doing by putting QA on production.  I also am not comfortable with the job of QA being thought of as a blank filler.  There is much more to the QA profession than just simply filling in blanks.

I don't know if Transcend ever did start paying QA by production, but I could see that the idea was being floated there.  Maybe there was a enough protest that they didn't change from hourly.

Good luck to you!

Phoenix Medcom- Another apply a few months back, ask to take a test and never heard back??
I applied a month or two ago, received an email from someone asking if I would take a test and said she was getting ready to go on vacation for a week, so I hurried and immediately and told her I'd love to take the test. I never heard back. I waiting thinking she went on vacation and would contact me when she got back to do the test but nothing...very strange..Just wondered if this happened to anyone else.
Has everyone heard back from Keystrokes yet regarding the email we received a while back?
Just wandering why I haven't heard any response yet.
I sent them an email back in August and never heard back sm
Is this company on Long Island? I checked out their website and even tried calling once. Were you successful in contacting them? All i know is that the company is owned by some doctors.

Hopefully, you will hear back. Unfortunately, I immediately heard back from MD-IT
but somehow with over 16 years of experience, I blew the test.  I was soooo disappoionted and yet pretty stunned.  I am by no means perfect but I haven't flunked a test in years.  I expected it in my early years but not this far down the road. I was so confident and they will not tell you which part you did not pass and why so it really just blew my mind.  I must have been in shock for like two hours after I got the email. Oh well, someone will want me....hopefully.  I was thinking about OSi but I don't think I could take another rejection if I never heard back.
I had the same thing happen, went back to MQ, went back to KS and could not be sm

happier.  I am on a different account then the first time and it is as if it is a different company.  I have a great lead who leaves us alone most of the time but is there when I need her.  It showed me that you can have a different experience within the same company.

I have to say that in the few weeks since they have the new office, it is much more organized probably because there are a lot of people there all the time.  I had the pleasure of speaking to the new HR manager who was HR at a hospital, got my questions answered about insurance as I am going to full time and had a live voice pick up the phone.

Not all change is bad.  This is one company that has changed for the better.

I was reading about the back up help. I would like also to have some back up work.
I am not getting anywhere near 12,000 lines this go around.  My goal is 12,000 lines each pay period.

Very good post!   Very straight forward and honest.  I was a recruiter as well, it can be pretty good money, but as this poster said, you are told what you need to say and a lot of the time given false information about the account you are hiring for.  It's a very rewarding job most of the time and I personally met a ton of truly wonderful people, but on the flip side - this is the person who gets nailed the minute something goes wrong whether it from the new employee or the supervisor of the account.  Very thankless position.  Think twice before wishing to do this.. very high stress.     Good luck to you!!
No, no, no - that couldn't have been the SAME
She would never be condescending or disrespectful of MTs.  She, herself, is an MT and has the deepest respect for what we do.  I think you must have spoken to someone else.

I couldn't have said that any better myself
I agree. This is an information board. People are supposed to come on here and ask questions about companies. Isn't that the point of this forum??? A lot of information is very outdated and people would like current info about companies before applying with them. Lighten up. If someone asking a simple question irritates you that much, then just ignore the post. This is the exact reason why I don't come on this site nearly as much as I used to. Almost every time I have ever asked a question or posted a response to someone else's question, I just about always had at least one person jump all over me. It's a shame.
LOL - couldn't have said it better myself.

AGREE WITH YOU TOTALLY --- I'm getting tired of eating dirt!!!
I couldn't have said it any better....
I'm just about sick of testing, testing, and more testing and hearing nothing or some cpl offer that isn't enough to survive on. I'll leave it at that. You've said it all. I think it's time to change professions. It's pathetic.

I worked for MQ for 6 years,  and they went from bad to worse. I am glad I do not work there anymore. I worked every weekend (my choice) and almost every holiday for them. They do not give you any differential for working w/e or holidays and will try to screw you out of any $$ they possibly can.  After 6 years, no one even said thank you, good luck..nothing!!!  I now work for a company that actually appreciates my work!

Bravo! Couldn't have said it better myself
Never had a problem with MQ until DQS. I am chained to this desk from sun up to sun down just trying to make the line count. It was NOT like that before DQS - I actually made very good, but now I can barely get by. What is really disturbing to me is that it is obvious a very big problem to a large number of MTs, yet MQ turns a blind eye. I guess as long as the big dogs are getting their fair share, then they are not worried about who is actually keeping them in business - the MTs. Without us, where would they be??

I tried it but couldn't do a good job of it.
It would be nice to just test out their platform before signing on with them and giving out so much personal information. If you spend a lot of time with data entry before even beginning the report, you can't really make any money that way either regardless of the nice pay rate.

good luck.:)

I am so tired of reading messages from miserable, crabby MT's, who blame their lack of production or being fired from a company, on everything else, but themselves. If that poster was fired from Spheris, it was with good reason. If you cannot cut it at Spheris, they cut you loose. You have 90 days (3 months) to meet your production goals, and judging from your spelling and grammar you probably started on a fairly low level account. I have mentored MT's, done editing, QA audits, and transcription, and the only way to make money is to work HARD!!! That is something that so many people that I have trained do not seem to understand. You have to work to make money and to get your production in.

I totally agree with your post, and I just wanted you to know.
Tried the web address given but couldn't get in. nm

Feast or famine is correct, but you have to fight for work and fight even harder for some decent communication.  I give a thumbs down for this company.

I applaud how well you put this. I have been in this profession over 45 years and still love and respect it. Perhaps it has become all about the money and who makes more, instead of taking pride in ourselves and the work we produce. Money is important, but it is not everything. If more people would strive for quality, stand by their good morals and ethics, and stop worrying about outsources, voice recognition, etc, perhaps this profession could be elevated to where it belongs. For now, I will also continue to be the best I can be and keep moving forward. Remember the Dictaphone??? I remember using a tape recorder and a manual typewriter -- oh my.
I couldn't agree with you more - sm
When I worked for a company, (before I went into recruiting) I would need to find subcontractors for projects. I heard yes, yes yes all the time and I would tell them the deadline. We even paid very well ($3.25/double spaced page which comes out to $30/hour or up) We paid more if it was a tighter deadline. Come the day of the deadline I would hear excuse after excuse after excuse oh my kids were sick I needed you to pay me up front because I didn't believe you were actually going to pay that much or this was the best I had the choice of going out with a man to try to get married so I wouldn't have to do this kind of work or working, which do you think I picked.

So you're right, work ethics have gone right out the window.

Unfortunately, that company decided to offshore a lot of their projects - as much as I am against offshoring, I couldn't blame them.

Google is not a reliable source for spellings, terminology, drugs, etc.

I never got mine and I couldn't do anything

Called the Dept of Labor cause I earned that PTO.  Even gave 2 weeks notice.  There was nothing I could do cause in my state they don't have to pay it.  Crummy...Just another thing to add to the long list of reasons why not to work for OSi.

We don't need to know the intimate details of how the business is run, but for loyalty, dedication, and effort at furthering the well being of the company (not just a paycheck), we deserve to  be treated as more than a means to an end or cog in the wheel.  I hope each MT who did the right thing for QT sees their efforts rewarded in the future.  This situation has brought grief to a lot of people - time to move forward and close the door on QT once and for all.  They don't deserve any more of our time or trouble and can be absolutely certain they'll never be worthy of it again.
I couldn't agree more!
I have been with KS since this past February and have never been happier! I have two excellent accounts; one ER and one basic 4 hospital account as a backup, and I never, ever run out of work. I also have an excellent rapport with my lead MT and I love it! I make excellent money there, and my check is always direct deposited right on time without any errors. I had worked for a few other companies before Keystrokes, and they couldn't even come close to KS as far as how well they treat their employees, etc. KS has been a huge breath of fresh air to me, and I feel very fortunate to have had such a positive experience with them! I am sure I am going to be bashed left and right and be accused of being a recruiter or management, but I am just an MT with an opinion.
QA couldn't be nicer to me.
Very helpful and complimentary of my work, which sure is different from what you hear about other companies.

You couldn't pay me enough money now.
