Again -- Please do NOT post job-wanted ads! (SM)

If you are looking for a position (employee or IC), you will simply have to do your own legwork like everyone else.  Look at the Job Seekers board.  There are both employee and IC positions available.  Inquire with those companies.

Post your resume on the free job resume bank.  Companies looking for workers will be sure to see it there!

If you wish to inquire about a specific company, please do so right here, on the Company board!!

In my original post about this, I wanted to say sm

edict rather than law, but figured I'd get jumped on using that word.  One of the late-night talk-show hosts referred to it as a law when one of the guests was baiting him to say, Merry Christmas.

The point is, you knew exactly what I meant in the first place.  Oh well.  Glad I gave No Name a LOL!  Laughing is healthy.

I know nothing about this company, but I just wanted to say just because she wouldn't post her na
means absolutely nothing.  There are reasons why a person may not want to post his or her name about such a volatile issue.  I was in the same boat a few months ago.  I would have implicated someone else.  Sorry, this may not make sense, but I'm just pointing out that she may have a valid reason.
Where's my post??wanted to check for an answer
I posted yesterday looking for information on a company that had called me.  I cannot find my post or any answers.  Is this board pruned regularly?  Could not find anything in the archives either.  thanks - i may just need to post again.
I like the post and wanted to express MY opinion, just as you
P
just wanted to clarify my most recent post...
My intention was to let everyone know that my experience with Liz was not bad. She was very nice to me at all times when I worked for her, that was all I ever intended to say. Thanks!
Well, yes. But my point is the OP said wanted people to post

positive experiences with Focus.  I've seen other posts like this where a person will ask about a specific MTSO and say something like just good things or no negative posts please.

It just strikes me as looking at the world through rose colored glasses.  How can you make an informed decision if you only consider one side of an argument?  It's just silly.  Why bother to ask any questions at all?  Just take the job and be done with it.  People take time to answer questions honestly here and try to help out fellow MTs so they don't make the same mistakes we've made and what thanks do we get?

Pollyannas like the OP who just wants to hear the good.

I too posted asking about Co.'s with flexibility, not a job wanted post, but I dont see it now. n

Here is a copy of the owner's post the last time the help-wanted ad was listed;

I would like to comment on your posts, as it is my help-wanted ad you are discussing.  I have attempted to put as many details into my ad as possible, in order to answer all possible questions anyone might have before applying.  My ad is not meant to be overbearing, rude, or pushy, but I realize it might appear that way to others because of all of the fine details I have written into it.  I have amended the ad many times over the years due to certain situations that have occured.  The part about if you love animals is due to the fact that I had a Transcriptionist working with me, who later told me that she did not like animals.  Since she did not like animals, it reflected in her work, which is probably because the work did not hold her interest.

I have read a lot of really vicious posts about myself and my company, none of which I feel are justified.  I am sure I have hurt some feelings when returning test results and when informing others that they do not appear to be compatible with the current position, but I have always been diplomatic in my emails and polite when conducting phone interviews.

I would like to set the record straight and let everyone know that I do NOT send out real work, hoping someone will do my job for me.  When I test someone, they are typing actual dictation files, but the reports have already been typed and returned to the clinic.  When testing potential applicants, I only send out two small dictation files at the most (sometimes only one), and the person below is obviously confused, or is blatently lying.

Also, regardless of what some people might be saying/thinking, there are at least four new clinics that open each year.  In the past six years, I have had five people leave their jobs voluntarily for their own personal reasons.  My newest ad is posted because I have been short-handed for some time now due to all of the unexpected clinics thrown at me and because I recently had a transcriptionist pass away unexpectedly.

I personally take the time to train each new person, and I can only handle training one person at a time because I have many other duties during the day, such as invoicing, payroll, emails, phone calls, typing the work from my own assigned clinics, etc.  It takes at least one month for each new person to feel comfortable enough to go on their own with the work, so I am constantly behind on getting all of the clinics covered.  As soon as one transcriptionist is out of training, I post my help-wanted ad and start all over again.  Believe me, I would like nothing more than to hire someone and put them on their own right away, which would make my life a lot easier!  However, the vet group I type for is very picky, which I can only blame on myself because they are spoiled and accustomed to having things done a specific way.

I could write a book in trying to defend myself and my company name, but, unfortunately, I no longer have the time to chat with other transcriptionists like I used to do years ago.  My main reason for posting a response is because I realize these posts will remain on the board for a very long time to come, and I am hoping potential applicants are not deterred from applying because of what has been posted at this site.

you should look at some old threads - sm
There is good and bad posted about them. In the past two years, they have had A LOT - A LOT - A LOT of staff turnover in their office in Pittsburgh. They also had a little problem with not paying transcriptionists overtime (they have since had to pay them). I guess all in all, they are just like any other company, good and bad, it depends on the accounts you get.
Read all threads
If you read on, you will see where I spelled it out. And also, what do you expect current employees to say? Of course they (only 2) will say good things. The negative commenters outweight the positive ones. But one only sees what one wants to.
I did miss the threads on this, I'm going there now to read.
nm
This is posted down a few threads too...no luck there either.

Having read your threads over the months
and you and I corresponded back and forth some on emails, the financial picture for you might perk up a little. You could at least submit a resume and see what they are offering. Benefits are always good and working inhouse, how many now would love to have that! You know what the work situation is now, your family is older, kids grown, etc. so I definitely would say check it out!
She was very nasty in the threads yesterday to
people who just learned of the line rate cut, then indicated she was bowing out of this whole discussion after getting called on it. Someone said they didn't think she'd be gone long. Looks like they were right.

Nobody said she's not allowed to post. It's just making her look really silly.
and posts like these are why good threads are removed. Why does everything have to sm
turn so nasty all the time? Grow up. Some of us want real answers.
No. Did you miss the earlier-this-week threads on this? Check pg. 2. nm

possibly -- it seems to have finally shut down the endless TT threads ...
I was beginning to think they needed their own board ...

I wasn't following them, but my impression is that they had been going on -- in some incarnation or another -- for several week ...

who would want to work for a company with so many so unhappy employees (even if the internet notoriously distorts just how many people are represented -- since the same people -- particularly the most incensed -- post over and over and over again -- creating the impression of great throngs of angry people)

I have no idea if TT's suit has merit ... just that such suits are not unprecedented and -- aside from unlikely-to-make-much-difference memos to their employees or public notices on boards like these -- represent the only way I'm aware of to defend one's good name.

If this served to educate the many folks here who thought that the first ammendment automatically protected them on line -- then good has already come from this.
don't worry, these kinds of heated threads always die down in a couple of days

Thank you! Just wanted I wanted to hear!
nm.
I read all read all the threads in the "companies" section
of another board, MT Chat, and Googled each one that got positive reviews. If they had a website and a way to apply online, I did so. And that was how I got hired at TRS. They were not advertising at the time. By sheer coincidence I applied to Transcend just before I applied to TRS, and they were not interested in what I had to offer at the time. And now they've got me anyway, since they bought TRS. Interesting how things work out sometimes.

Companies with negative reviews, or company queries that got only a terse I sent you a PM reply, I passed over.
My post should say the post above not the post below, Sheryl's post to be specific. nm
nm
Thanks for saying what I wanted to say...
We are not the same as Transcend, although we both are good companies. We care about MTs... and I would love to know who the posters are that claim differently.

As Liz says below -- e-mail her or give her a call.
I just wanted to say that I don't believe the
Indian worker is trying to destroy the American dream, they are trying live it.  Blame should go to the companies who are taking the work and sending it overseas, not the workers who are given an opportunity to better their life situation.  This doesn't mean I agree with off-shoring, I just think blame for the dying of the American MT profession is sometimes misplaced.
I have been following this and I wanted SM

to say that it might not be that you were the only one this happened to---a lot of people just see the $ coming out of the paycheck and don't think they have to confirm that the plan holder got it (because the company should be more trustworthy).

The way these companies are now, it's probably a better thing if you take the check they gave you and found an IRA to invest in yourself.  You can also arrange to contribute to it throughout the year (although it will be after-tax money, but you will be able to claim the contribution at the end of the year and get that tax back) out of your own bank account.  The situation that happened to you is unacceptable.  You are being far more gracious than I would under the same circumstances.

We do not allow job-wanted ads. (SM)
Please feel free to post your resume on the resume bank or search the Job Seeker's board.

In the future, if you have a question about your post, please e-mail the Administator or myself.

just wanted to add...
it sounded very familiar to a presentation presented by a former employer YEARS ago. It was a very small local MTSO, and he was reworking the pay scale in order to cover other expenses. He showed us a pie chart of what a huge chunk MT wages took out of the total revenue (DUH -- would you HAVE revenue without us) and mentioned how we could increase our wages by becoming more productive (the latter, I believe, was mentioned more than once in the DRC/Acusis presentation -- read: don't count on making your current wage -- but you'll be able to offset that by increasing your productivity -- HA). We didn't get the pie chart in this presentation, but it was clear they want a good portion of their revenue to go to research and development.

I'm cautiously optimistic -- I would LOVE to switch careers but at my age it's impossible -- I know because I have tried. Once you have worked at home doing this for X number of years, you basically don't qualify for anything else unless you wish to flip burgers. A friend asked: Can they really cut your wages? And i explained how the lovely world of MT CAN and DOES do that: I predict in this case, it will be: We are switching to a different way of counting lines, and we will adjust your pay per keystroke appropriately. And LO AND BEHOLD, when you crunch the numbers, you will notice that your pay has been appropriately adjusted DOWNward.
Did you tell them you wanted to do OPs and they said OK, or just
not check it out at all???
I just wanted to say ....
I have worked for Liz, and she is really great. She was always very understanding and went out of her way to be kind to me. I did not see the ad you guys are referring to, and I understand no one wanting to feel like they are being insulted, but for her to have written something like what I imagine the ad said from what I can gather from your posts, she had to be frustrated. I would totally work for her again.
I think it is 5 cpl, but I wanted

That's what I wanted to know. Thanks for
your honesty. Anybody else have a different/similar experience?
By the way I wanted to add
I hope that by my initial excitement I did not encourage anyone to make any kind of choice they would regret. If so, I apologize. If you are happy good for you. I was just so excited initially, that maybe I should not have put the post in to influence anyone. Seems like there is an argument going on here and I do not want to say either way. I say interview if you want, ask all of the appropriate questions and then you may check references on a company before you take the job just as easily as they can check yours. If you are a good match, good luck. If not, then good luck in your job search. Not backsliding here, just trying to make amends because obviously you guys wanted a follow up so my comments a few weeks ago must have made an impression. No matter what there is a company out there for everyone, so good luck to all, and I wish only the best.
just wanted to know...
Thanks, but someone posted that if you wanted to see where they worked to check their other posts and you could find out. I don't want to know the identity of people, just if you can find posts of individual people! Does that sound clear as mud to you?!
Also wanted to add (sm)
It is too bad that they do over-hire. Because they are losing a lot of great people who would probably stay the duration of their career if they were able to get their line counts and make money with them. JMO.
Just wanted to add
you also need to contact the Labor Board. Take any paperwork you have with you--i.e., copy of your contract, etc. If I were in your shoes I would send a letter (cerfified mail, return receipt requested) to them telling them I expected payment in full within five days or I would do all of the above, including the Labor Board. Then DO it.
How do you know what she wanted?
You don't even know her, have not worked with her or walked in her shoes? What kind of a payoff do you get from being so nasty?

Thank you. That it what I wanted to know.
It has been so long since I last applied for a job, I am stressing about everything.  Thanks.
