But it was definitely worth the wait. Actually, If i remember correctly, they were the last response i got to my resume, but ended up being the best all around offer on the table at that time.

I did 2 tests the last couple of days, both through mttest, though

the tests were different. One test took about probably 45 minutes and that didn't include the transcription part.  I started the transcription and the dictation was so horrendous - sound quality really bad, barely able to hear any of the dictation, 2 ESL docs, and 1 really fast talking U.S. doc.   I do about 90% ESL, but goodness.  I have nearly 20 years' experience and I have decided it just isn't worth my time to do the transcription part.  I'm trying to get out of a stressful situation currently, and this didn't seem like it was going to be the answer.  I know that it was only a small representation, and I feel sorry for anyone without lots of experience trying to take the test.


The second test was so easy and even with transcribing the dictation I think it only took me 45 minutes tops. 


I don't know why I continue to test and look for another position, because I'm fairly comfortable with my dictators, my company leaves me alone 99% of the time, good line counting program, etc. and I turn down every position I'm offered because:  1 - no one offers me as much money (even though I'm not making gobs of money); 2 - no one offers me the flexibility that I currently have, although I don't have as much as I used to have; 3 - I've got 5 years invested in this company and I know what to expect; 4 - while QA is pretty stringent I'm 99% or better and go weeks at a time without getting anything back .......  I just need a change of pace, but at the same time I don't like change, I don't want to learn new dictators, don't want to learn a new format, don't want to learn the quirks of QA and all the other stuff that goes along with a new account/new company. 


I think the last 6 months I've tested and been offered 8 positions and some companies continue to call me and none has anything better to offer me.

here's why people are getting heated...

I don't think those of us that work weekends are putting work before family or God .  That is what you are implying... actually not just implying, you've said it over and over.  For many of us, we are working two or more jobs and we are doing this FOR family. You don't think we do it for fun, do you?  Unfortunately being able to take the kids to the park on Saturday doesn't pay for their shoes they need to wear at the park. And sometimes we have to make that choice, and it is a really painful and hard one.  But even if the *quantity* of family time might suffer because we need to pay the bills, the *quality* doesn't, you know what I mean?  I think that is why I found your post to be a little self-righteous.  I hear what you are saying... and it sounds like you and your family are blessed by your work/life situation.  Good for you!  (not sarcastic, truly good for you!)  But it does not always work out like that for everyone, but maybe it is something we are working towards.  Me, I want to put my sons through college.  So if that means I miss a football game on Saturday, then sometimes I do.  Though I try to make it work - taking a couple hours off in the middle of the day and working that night or whatnot. 


We all do what is right for US.  So let's not look down on each other because of some choices that we have had to make.  In many cases, we've already beat ourselves up about it, and to have a complete stranger tell us otherwise is not needed.  I think that is why you are getting the response you are getting.  There are some things that you should just keep to yourself, like if you feel someone needs to *get a life* just keep it to yourself... that is kind of hurtful...especially if that person is already feeling that way herself....


And God?  He is with us everyday, not just Sunday, and not just in church, in your heart where you need him most.  If you cannot make it to church on Sunday, just let HIM know he is in your heart and he will make a housecall!

They should have paid holidays so that you are paid if you take off. Also should inculde extra hours for sick days and personal days.

That annual raise of .002 is kind of a joke especially when at the same time they upped the minimum line requirement from 10,000 lines to 12,000 lines.

OSi just does not have the qualified people in management positions that I wish to work for.

I am glad that you are happy at OSi and all is working out for you. Their dishonesty and the way they treat people just does not work for me.

Of course they can get by cheaply by hiring unqualified people so that is very good for the owners.

There is good and bad posted about them. In the past two years, they have had A LOT - A LOT - A LOT of staff turnover in their office in Pittsburgh. They also had a little problem with not paying transcriptionists overtime (they have since had to pay them). I guess all in all, they are just like any other company, good and bad, it depends on the accounts you get.

If you read on, you will see where I spelled it out. And also, what do you expect current employees to say? Of course they (only 2) will say good things. The negative commenters outweight the positive ones. But one only sees what one wants to.

Having read your threads over the months
and you and I corresponded back and forth some on emails, the financial picture for you might perk up a little. You could at least submit a resume and see what they are offering. Benefits are always good and working inhouse, how many now would love to have that! You know what the work situation is now, your family is older, kids grown, etc. so I definitely would say check it out!
She was very nasty in the threads yesterday to
people who just learned of the line rate cut, then indicated she was bowing out of this whole discussion after getting called on it. Someone said they didn't think she'd be gone long. Looks like they were right.

Nobody said she's not allowed to post. It's just making her look really silly.

I was beginning to think they needed their own board ...

I wasn't following them, but my impression is that they had been going on -- in some incarnation or another -- for several week ...

who would want to work for a company with so many so unhappy employees (even if the internet notoriously distorts just how many people are represented -- since the same people -- particularly the most incensed -- post over and over and over again -- creating the impression of great throngs of angry people)

I have no idea if TT's suit has merit ... just that such suits are not unprecedented and -- aside from unlikely-to-make-much-difference memos to their employees or public notices on boards like these -- represent the only way I'm aware of to defend one's good name.

If this served to educate the many folks here who thought that the first ammendment automatically protected them on line -- then good has already come from this.

Two kinds of flames

The job hoppers are 2 kinds-SM

The first is the person who really does this for extra money and isn't too serious about it.  They have a 2nd income from spouse, don't need insurance, etc.


The second group is a minority in the MT community, but is responsible for the perception that most of us are job hoppers.  These people are kind of off--and by that I mean personality-wise, don't like being told what to do, very demanding, prima donna kinds of MTs with very dramatic lives.  They need the money, but they also have a personality disorder that makes them upset at any kind of direction given and they also believe they have superior skills to most MTs and deserve to be catered to.


THAT group is the group who posts that they stayed at XX Company for 1 or 2 weeks, got fed up with something and left, stayed at XX Enterprises for a month, got fed up..cycle continues.  I am not talking about not getting paid-that's a real problem.  I am talking about people who live in such chaos that they cannot really settle down enough to work for ANY company for long and they also don't recognize that the common denominator in the job changes is THEM.

What kinds of accounts did you have in which you could average 250-350 lph?

I've been with MDI for years now and have worked on the same hospital account for years also.  The best I can get is an AVERAGE of about 200 lph.  Sure, I get the occasional 250 lph here and there, but I can't say I average that on a daily basis by any means.  The only time I've ever actually averaged 250-350+ an hour was with ER or radiology work, and it wasn't at MDI either.


At 11 cpl and averaging 250-350 per hour, that would put you around $30+ an hour.  I find it hard to believe anyone would really quit a job making this kind of money, and I wonder if you were really able to manage this working on hospital accounts or was it some other type of work?

like when they answered cancer hospital below. Anyway, it sounds like too new many accounts at once. I'd probably get stuck with 2 or 3 accounts at once, i.e., too risky for me. I even received an email inviting me to test. I had worked there before, and I realize this email went out to a whole group of people, but I just think I'll pass.

How can you possibly KNOW that those who are _still with us_ are _very happy, blah, blah_? Are you telekenetic? Did you have lie detector tests performed? Perhaps they speak ill of you and you just are not aware of it. Perhaps they feel they have no alternative but to stay with your company but wish they could leave. How do you know what it is your employees honestly feel or think and then speak for them? Did they collectively ask you to do so?

I'm shaking my head at how you just don't seem to get it. This isn't the first time you've been offered the words I offer you today.

I know many MTs will bash companies here and I cannot explain why I feel this way, but when a company comes on and _defends_ itself in this manner, it turns me against ever having anything to do with it. This isn't the first time IMHO you should have left things alone and let outsiders come to their own conclusions.

MTs who are in the know, know where to find information, how to break it all down and make informed decisions for themselves. I don't want to contact you...you brought yourself into my arena and the lions are feeling hungry these days.

Anyone else finding difficulty doing testing with your foot pedal. I am having all kinds of
problems and cant seem to test in Express Scribe with my foot pedal.  Am I going to run into this same problem every time I apply somewhere.  I cant do the test without a pedal because it is very long with fast dictators.  Even to use and keyboard keys is very difficult so I gave us actually.
Want to call you all kinds of management but showing them, no response at all. zzzzzzzzz
