Psych work is full of modern slang and terminology.

I can see both sides of this issue. First, those are nonmedical terms and wouldn't constitute a serious error. However, it's clear that the test taker did not even do her research on unfamiliar terminology.

Psych Work?

Anyone know of a good company that offers psych work - preferrably part-time? Thanks!

PT Psych work
NetMed Transcription Service. If you are in Michigan, then you should check them out. I worked for them and they provide everything you need except for things like ink, paper, etc. It is in Cadillac, Michigan. Good Luck

Can anyone tell me if Transtech has psych work?
IRS gives psych evals to work for them
I worked for them as a seasonal worker for 2 years. It is a written test asking all sorts of questions, but the questions are meant to test your psychological stability and temperament. I have worked for temp agencies giving this type of test also. Whether it is a good tool for hiring or not remains to be seen. Maybe. However, I know people who could fool anyone they wanted to and you would be surprised how they really are at home. Many folks live upstanding lives as long as the public is watching, but what they do behind closed doors would send YOU to the shrink's chair, just out of disbelief. LOL

what has modern technology got to sm
do with my post about folks working from home and not taking this job seriously while raising kids? Obviously you want to argue the book versus internet thing again and its not going to happen.

Go back to India.
I believe those were on the test for psych work because a lot of children
nowadays are watching shows such as Spongebob and using the X-Box, Playstation, etc., and they just want to make sure that you know all the new stuff out there that they will be using in their dictation. I've done psych. work before and they use a lot of modern jargon in their dictation.
hmmm, so you're a modern day mindreader.
Since you are able to determine what people are thinking, I'd love to have you come over and read my husband's mind for me.
Good luck, I think everyone enjoys the lines from psych work. (nm)

No, wrong again, it is in modern times perfectly acceptable to
start a sentence with 'But' and even with 'And,' especially when putting emphasis on a statement.
get the terminology right
How do I get you alone? You know what that means.

How do I get you along? Kick you to the curb.

lol
While I don't think the terminology
from clinic to hospital, I think the biggest difference is in the quality of the dictations.  You'll have umpteen ESLs, residents, NPs, PAs dictating and it's just a faster paced environment.  While they can be more involved (the H&Ps and consults) at the hospital level, you'd probably need to make sure you have a good grasp of laboratory terminology, every speciality, etc.  It's basically just more variety in terms of specialites and then add in the dozens (if you're lucky) to 100s of different dictators on an acute care account.  If you've done the clinic work for 20 years, have you tried at least testing to see where you are and possibly get a feel for how easily you could make the transition?
NOT same terminology
One of the most difficult things about typing op notes is having thorough knowledge of the equipment used in surgical procedures,as well as the terminology used in the procedures themselves. You do NOT find this in clinic notes. Are you defining acute care as only histories and physicals and consults? I have always done acute care and have never had a job where I didn't do ops.
Probably not too much different terminology wise, sm
but, as you know, differ from dictator to dictator. There wouldn't be any pediatrics in internal medicine.
Very easy as far as terminology SM

but sometimes the subject matter is hard, like abused kids. On the flip side, sometimes very interesting or wild subject matter! Long reports. Mostly straight typing with very few terms to learn. You should have no problem if your dictators are good. Have fun!

Well, judging by your terminology,

I'd say you were with MQ currently.  As a fellow MQer (just gave notice yesterday), I picked up on the c-pool term ASAP.  At any rate, I also have 10 years experience and do about the same work types you do.  I've interviewed with 3 different companies in the last few months and the offers ranged from 8.5 to 9.5.  Benefits on the lower offer and IC status on the higher offer.  I did notice that the companies were more interested in my cardiology procedures more than anything, so if you have that experience, you might want to bring it to their attention.  I didn't push much with the lower offer since it required a schedule and 30+ hours per week, etc, which I really don't want.  I did push on the higher offer to see if I could get an increase if I maintained a higher line count than the minimum required and  got it.

Hope this info helps your search.  Gotta get outta that place!!!

This is basic medical terminology 101.

Your expertise in medical terminology
Your expertise in medical terminology, English grammar, spelling, anatomy, medications, laboratory values, etc., is what you are being compensated for.

Well, if all editors do is fill in the blanks, then Ok for low rate. But if they actually have to listen, read the entire report, and make corrections, they are spending JUST AS MUCH TIME as if they had typed it! It is the amount of time spent doing the job that is being re-imbursed not the number of characters/lines. The character/lines is just the method to measure your time and what your time is worth based on your experience/knowlege/ability. An experienced MT should be making $30-40/hr and an IC and the same minus benefits if employee. If the services cannot get the contracts at this price, then they are failures and why work for them?
I do not even work full-time, much less 2 but
what I was saying was exactly the posting below yours, not worry about things you have no control over. If you are not making enough money and you need more, then YOU have to do something about it. Worrying about that or anything else does no good.
Have not had a full day's work since the 4th. Any other Nationals out of work?

Getting really frustrated.    Took a new job because they said there was plenty of work -- overtime.   National MTSO with new accounts coming in every day. Since July 4th, have not had a full day's work.   I know things can get slow in the summer with doctor's vacations, etc.  and around holidays because elective surgeries are down, but this is getting ridiculous.  Just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem,  is this normal and expected, or did I choose the wrong company to go with?  Can't afford many more of these days.  Most I ever went with low work after a holiday or during the summer with my other employers was 2 days, and then usually went into overtime, so could make up those days.  Can't make up 2 weeks.  Just curious.   What has been your experience as far as longest drought period you've gone through with a company.  Thanks.

I work full-time for Proscript..... sm
And I never run out of work, but I have 2 large hospitals as my primary accounts, and 3 clinics as my secondary - probably why I don't run out of work ever.

If you are considering full time employee-with-benefits status - a minimum of 11,000 lines per pay period.

If you need more info - please email me

At MQ you have to work your full scheduled hours.
They need the have all the hours covered for stats and such. I dont understand the 2 different offers for FT, I would think the latter would be PT. If you get paid by production then it would be entirely up to you how many hours you wanted to work a day. Does the 8 hour day pay more or have better benefits?
I work full time for a national and as an IC
for a local company. The FT is 40 hours per week, the IC is when I want to work, usually about 10 to 12 hours a week.
AAMT did not change "good English" and terminology, sm
The changes originated with the American Medical Association, the Chicago Manual of Style, as well as other references from which the AAMT BOS is compiled.

I agree in part, if the test is difficult only due to the terminology, sm

but if it is difficult due to the quality of the sound or the fact that the dictator talks at the speed of light and/or has some ESL accent so thick and hard to decipher that no one can understand him/her, then I would pass as I would think that represents the type of dictation I would be transcribing on a daily basis.  Ironically, it is usually a company with that type of work that offers you 7 cpl and asks for MTs with tons of experience.   I have over 30 years of experience, and I just say no thanks.

Just my opinion ...... I feel lucky to have found what I consider to be a great full-time job as well as a great part-time job, but I have sure seen lots of crummy dictation while testing as well as laughable pay scales.

Full-time MTs, what LD company do you use for work (if LD is required, of course) ?
nm
Do they have enough work to keep you busy? Do full timers have any flexibility in their hours?
Competitive line rates?
yeah and the MTSO still charging full price for the work
Most physicians/hospitals don't even know they're dictating into VR so still paying full-on transcription prices while the nationals/MTSOs cut the MT's salary in half. Nice huh?
I agree, if you went to work knowing full well that the company paid 7 cpl no spaces
why on Earth did you accept the job?
In my state, if they hire you full time, then do not provide the work you can draw unemployment -
You would have to talk to someone in your state, but I was able to draw partial unemployment while still working in Georgia. I had to report in each week how much I made and they gave me partial benefits. To qualify, you had to have been hired full time.
Thank you! I'm looking for part-time work to supplement my no-work full-time job.

I'm lookin for part-time work (about 3-4 hrs daily) after 13 years of full-time, anyone know of a
company that is hiring flexible part-time?  I'm starting a career in real estate but don't want to totally quit transcription, but I think most places require 25 hours a week and I cant work weekends, as real estate sales are the biggest on the weekend with open houses and people off work to shows homes to.  If you know of a place I'd sure appreciate the info.  Thanks!
You mean, but not PSYCH?
LOL

How can I find them?  Could not find anything on them....is that an MT company or the name of a hospital?  Thanks for any help.......

Thank you Old CMT. Very sound advice.

Thank you NM. This board is wonderful for helping us new MTs. I did not know that it was illegal not to pay for 45 days. I asked because I had never heard about going that long before receiving pay before. I received an email from another past employee. She said this woman is very nice over the phone but was very mean and critical to her when she was an employee. She claims she was fired for being late once during an emergency. I think I have decided I will not look further into this employer. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck .... Thank you so much for your time.
Psych

Thank you, thank you NM. This woman made me feel like such a fool for questioning 45 days before a first payment. I am new and was so unsure. She kept telling me I am sooooooo easy to work for.You have no reason to question me. You are just nervous because you are new. She seemed so nice, but also kind of like a snake oil salesman. Ha! Ha! She kept yakking about the so easy to work for so much that it made me uneasy. That is why I came here to search. I am grateful for job and experience, but I want to work for someone that is honest from the get go. Thank you so much for educating me.

I did psych and almost

did tons and tons of it, strictly psych hospital - adults and children - for quite awhile.  Figured I had to get away from it when I found myself thinking Well, maybe he really does get signals from outerspace through his neighbor's television but the deciding factor was when I thought What is really so terrible about saving your feces in your dresser drawer  THAT SETTLED IT FOR ME!!!

The positive side was that it was EXCELLENT money, EASY dictators, really a gravy account.

Just try to remember that feces belongs in the toilet, NOT in the dresser, and you will do fine

Is it for KCS?  If so, email me privately.
Psych pay -- too low
I pay my IC's 8 to 9 cpl, I  set up  standards for each type of consult with tests in the standards, so lot of times they have 2 to 4 pages already done when they begin and just have to plug in some test results and a few words here and there.  I make 3 - 4 cpl off of them for the pick up of tapes, proof the reports, send back to the doctors, bill them.  They also get 2-3 days to get the reports done.  Each report is between 400 to 600 lines for them.  Takes about 60 to 90 minutes to get each one done.  To me, 0.6 is way too low.  But that is me.  I cannot make 50% off of my IC's and look at myself in the mirror.  Patti

Try Vitallines (info@vitallines.net).  I worked for them a couple of months but had to give it up as I couldn't work for 2 companies as my work picked up with my first company.  The owners are very nice, fair, and the pay is average; but my own opinion, I would take a good employer, steady work, easy dictators, and very nice people over a high CPL.  They stay in close contact with you if need help or have questions, but don't breathe down your neck, and leave you alone to do your work.  They have an onsite IM setup in case you have questions and can ask other employees who are also very helpful.  Everyone is so nice and helpful.  No ESLs.  I typed for a Behavioral Health/Mental Health account out of Georgia dealing with adolescent and adults.  Their contact number is 678-799-4665.  The owners' name are Meg and Charles Jordan.

I hope this helps.

Part-time MT getting full-time work ??????

TransTech should not be giving out work to PT people on their DAY OFF, or any other time BEFORE a full-time MT has enough work    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are a lot of MTs out there who like psych accounts.
They're super easy to type with tons of macros and not much technical medical language.  It's cake money.  People just aren't willing to give that up, or it's going to VR.
psych accounts
I know that Medware just got a new account that has a large psych facility.
Psych Transcription

Hello!  I am a psych MT as well.  I am working part time but I am looking for another part time job. Care to share if your company is recruiting?  Feel free to e-mail.

TIA!

psych test
Isn't this illegal?
Maybe you need the psych eval. sm
I do believe MTSO is a medical transcription service owner - therefore, it is a person.

Secondly, you read into my post too much! No one criticized you, the recruiter, unless you have something to be defensive about, your post was very defensive in nature.

Thirdly, I was voicing my opinion, why did you take to heart? Do you really think a psych eval for MTs is a smart solution? I do not!

That is all I have to say on this topic!
