yeah and the MTSO still charging full price for the work

Posted By: while your line rate gets slashed in half sm on 2009-01-12
In Reply to: Yes it is possible to double your lines. I cant type 460 lines an hour but I can get those with VR - jj

Most physicians/hospitals don't even know they're dictating into VR so still paying full-on transcription prices while the nationals/MTSOs cut the MT's salary in half. Nice huh?

My MTSO who was charging 15 cpl lost acct to

Yeah, be careful. I worked for MTSO that "said" they paid for spaces. I had to work really S

hard for my lines.  Took a second job part-time with hospital, same platform (EXText), same font size, etc. and did the same amount of lines in half the time.  Decided to look closer at the MTSO and found out they weren't counting spaces.  I confronted them and all of sudden.  Got lots of apologies and will add to your next paycheck.  Long story short, never happened and I never had any work after that.

There are a lot of unscrupulous MTSOs out there.  They lie, cheat, and steal!

Gourdpainter - Aren't you the MT being sued by MTSO for slander/standing up? Yeah I need that.
x
I do not even work full-time, much less 2 but
what I was saying was exactly the posting below yours, not worry about things you have no control over. If you are not making enough money and you need more, then YOU have to do something about it. Worrying about that or anything else does no good.
Absolutely not! I work for the best MTSO. I am have been so blessed to work for the small company I

I will share this about the MTSO I work for.  I called her late last Wednesday night after Church and told her I was compelled to help out with Hurricaine Katrina in some way and an opportunity arose for a small group from my Church to go to Louisianna this coming week.  Would she be able to cover my work.  She told me no problem without any hesitation and even donated money for the trip.

And I am sure there are plenty of good companies out there to work for.  To compare us to migrant workers is just not right.

Have not had a full day's work since the 4th. Any other Nationals out of work?

Getting really frustrated.    Took a new job because they said there was plenty of work -- overtime.   National MTSO with new accounts coming in every day. Since July 4th, have not had a full day's work.   I know things can get slow in the summer with doctor's vacations, etc.  and around holidays because elective surgeries are down, but this is getting ridiculous.  Just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem,  is this normal and expected, or did I choose the wrong company to go with?  Can't afford many more of these days.  Most I ever went with low work after a holiday or during the summer with my other employers was 2 days, and then usually went into overtime, so could make up those days.  Can't make up 2 weeks.  Just curious.   What has been your experience as far as longest drought period you've gone through with a company.  Thanks.

I work full-time for Proscript..... sm
And I never run out of work, but I have 2 large hospitals as my primary accounts, and 3 clinics as my secondary - probably why I don't run out of work ever.

If you are considering full time employee-with-benefits status - a minimum of 11,000 lines per pay period.

If you need more info - please email me

At MQ you have to work your full scheduled hours.
They need the have all the hours covered for stats and such. I dont understand the 2 different offers for FT, I would think the latter would be PT. If you get paid by production then it would be entirely up to you how many hours you wanted to work a day. Does the 8 hour day pay more or have better benefits?
I work full time for a national and as an IC
for a local company. The FT is 40 hours per week, the IC is when I want to work, usually about 10 to 12 hours a week.
So are you charging them since you are using your
your second phone line?  What about the wear and tear on your c-phone?  No wonder you did not have to pay for anything, you are offering up your very own equipment.  I guess they thought that was great and are being super nice.  They have someone who is willing to pay their overhead...  hello?  Good luck though, but it sounds like they found an MT ready to offer up her OWN equipment instead of buying/renting equipment from them.  I just do not think that employee status should require any purchases at all.  Period.  The End.  Have a great day!!!     When you work on-site as employee (think of this way), the hospital/facility does not say in the interview bring your own computer would ya'? or bring your own c-phone or bring your own paper, pens, and paperclips....
They do it by charging the doc 15-20 cpl, that's how. nm
.
The bid has nothing to do with consistancy of work. MTSO cannot control how cosistant work is.
:+
Full-time MTs, what LD company do you use for work (if LD is required, of course) ?
nm
If they are only charging the client
8 CPL, as you state below, then that is sad.  They are undercutting and the MT is the one that loses out because they will not get paid as much. The services keep dropping their prices and are only able to do that by paying less out to the MT.
charging sales tax
Does anyone know if you have to charge sales tax in Ohio to the physician offices or if you need a vendor's license to do transcription in Ohio? Can't seem to get a straight answer from any Ohio department.
Since uncutting others by charging 10 cpl, they

What about charging a fee (employees)..sm
to rent their equipment, i.e, computer to do MT work as employee??  Doesn't seem fair, and I thought an employer  must provide work tools for the employee...not charge fees to rent PCs, foot pedals, etc. to do work.
That 9.9 cpl is what they are charging their clients
I clicked on that link.  It's completely an off-shore based company.  The 9.9 cents is what they are charging the health care providers.  That's only possible if they are paying 1 to 2 cpl for the workers.
Charging to use their software
Does anyone know why  a chartscript company would charge to use their software.  15.00 a month, not a huge amount but still why do they charge the MT? Have never had anyone do this before...
Charging for software
Yes I am an IC but this is the first time I have come across someone who charged to use their platform. I have my own foot pedal, computer..In order to get their work done you generally use the software /platform they use without a charge. I have worked in DocQscribe, Meditech, Emdat and others with no fee. Like you said, I guess just because they can or DO!
If they started charging you more so their US
would you still love them then? Or are you just in love with the rock-bottom price hospitals get to pay for MT, knowing full well what's happening most of the reports, and the MTs in America who used to type them?
Psych work is full of modern slang and terminology.
I can see both sides of this issue. First, those are nonmedical terms and wouldn't constitute a serious error. However, it's clear that the test taker did not even do her research on unfamiliar terminology.
Do they have enough work to keep you busy? Do full timers have any flexibility in their hours?
Competitive line rates?
How much you think these bigwigs are charging the hospitals?
And we get, what, 1/3 of this?
I am in Kentucky,m never heard of charging
x
for that price?
so if they were to pay you what you thought would be worth it, you would write an MT training program for people in India? That's nice. Don't complain that we are being treated as professionals and that our career has gone downhill when people like you are contributing factors to all of it.
we need to set our price

Upon looking at the job boards, I notice they want us to have 10 years' experience but want to pay only 7-8 cents a line.

It's time we decide on OUR bottom line.

What is the least we will accept as a group for transcription and ASR?

I say no LESS than 8.5 cents a line for transcription and no LESS than 5.5 cents for voice.  We do not need to go any lower than that, if maybe that it even too low for some of you out there?   I want to hear from you.

We MUST follow this up with action, or nonaction as it were, by not accepting any job for less than our bottom line.

Let's set a new standard for ourselves.

I agree, if you went to work knowing full well that the company paid 7 cpl no spaces
why on Earth did you accept the job?
The only accounts you lose in business by charging
No big loss there! It then frees up time and space in the schedule to land a better-paying account. Not only are we selling ourselves short, but the MTSO's are doing the same. They should concentrate less on what their competitors are doing pricewise, and more on producing the best product possible. The rest would take care of itself, and they'd ultimately be better off.
Where did she mention a price?
I didn't see a line rate posted.  Usually a rate like 7 cpl is a temporary rate just to see if the person has the experience they claim (9 times out of 10 they don't) or it's temporary rate to offset the cost of editing of new hires.
Price fixing
It seems that ever since AAMT suggested that the line count should be characters divided by 65 (which cut our gross line pay by 1/3), clients have been insisting that we count that way. So now Escription comes along and tells the client the same thing and they want us to change the way we count. It seems to be there are some antitrust issues lurking here to be plumbed. Isn't that called price fixing? And wouldn't one think that we should check on it like with the attorney general?
price point?
Is that a nice way of saying cheap?
Yeah, you do have to work or they let you go.

As an IC, I've never even been able to take a day off to be sick.  I was told that I couldn't take my requested vacation when I wanted it, too.  I tell them the schedule I want to work, but they're always pushing the limits there.  No work for several days, and then too much work that "nobody else can do".  The companies that hire ICs are also pushing the limits on categorizing workers.  They're hiring for ICs to work Tu-Sa, or Su-Th, the pay rate is $.xx, and it's 2nd or 3rd shift.  I'm sorry, but when you hire an independent contractor, they are supposed to set their own schedule and pay.  I'd love to just go down every single job ad and turn these companies into the IRS for misclassifying their employees.  What, do they think we're so ignorant that we'll tolerate it just for the privilege of working at home and carrying their overhead costs for them?  Men wouldn't allow themselves to be treated like this.

You're right, there are companies out there that route work to employees before ICs.  They are not going to pay their employees hourly downtime rates so the ICs can do the work.  IC is low on the totem pole.

Yeah, but who is getting this work?
I supposedly have 3 backup accounts but never get any work from them either. Usually, I don't mind, but I'm getting a wee bit tired rearranging MY schedule so I can get my lines.
Yeah, I work it sm
I have an employee job and an IC job. FT is Tues-Sat. IC is Mon-Fri. I told the IC that I won't work Monday, but I will work the rest of the week.

Well, we lost staff to the hurricane in TX and I am the only other one who can do an OP note, so I worked 2 Mondays with that. Then, when the gal came back, she stopped doing the OP notes or even much work for that matter, so I have worked a couple more Mondays. I went for over a month without a day off and then finally, I took 2 days off the PT IC job and a PTO day off the FT job and had a 3-day weekend. I didn't answer the phone or the email and had an automessage back to them: NOT WORKING ON MY VACATION.

I suppose it is what you want to do and if it is worth it to you. I get 10 cpl or better for production on my PT job, so I work them without a lot of grumbling, but I do get sick of it. Sometimes work flow is so low that you gotta and I have been there too.
In my state, if they hire you full time, then do not provide the work you can draw unemployment -
You would have to talk to someone in your state, but I was able to draw partial unemployment while still working in Georgia. I had to report in each week how much I made and they gave me partial benefits. To qualify, you had to have been hired full time.
I think you are wrong. Everyone has a price. I think she would be sick of all of this by now. xx
xx
This is the price of doing business. If there weren't
something in it for you, you wouldn't be doing it - whether it be money, ego, prestinge, etc.
she didn't mention a price, i said
If you send a professional resume, go through the trouble of testing, passing it with flying colors, 7 cpl should not be anywhere in the offer.  Pay a professional what a profession is worth from day one.
You can make more -- negotiate your price. sm

Dorothy is one of the few that pays MTs for their experience and quality.

Good luck!

The competition is in the price NOT quality.
Editors clean up American MTs and Indian MTs. Bottom line is COST!!! DUH! It is just like everything else being made overseas in China, Mexico...IT IS CHEAPER THERE!
Contact me for good price
$60.00 plus shipping for StartStop foot pedal. I got it when I worked for SoftScript before, so know it works well with their program.
Just remember.....everything/anything is for sale for the right price sm
No matter what, everything and anything has a price tag. Good luck to all KS MTs.
Price fixing does not need to be accepted and should not
I see, 5, 6, 7, 8 and should not be accepted. Get your calculater out. Figure out what that would be per hour. Com'on this is a highly highly skilled profession, not just anybody can do it, takes year YEARS and you never know it all, never.
It seems like price fixing in t this industry.
They all pay the same unlivable wages. Anybody know a lawyer? Ask about a price-fixing lawsuit.
I'm beginning to believe its price fixing
Seems like reps from all the major MTSOs sat down, came up with a so-called competitive rate, and decided to all cut wages at approximately the same time - so there's really nowhere else to go when MTs want to leave!  Greed!  Plain and simple!
As an IC I let the MTSO where I work
know when I can work on a day to day basis. I have no committment for # of lines or hours each week/pay period. If I can work, I let them know how much work I can take (they assign it). Sometimes I work 7 days straight, sometimes I take a week off, sometiesm I work every other day, just WHENEVER I want. If there is no work, then I don't work. This is, I believe, what a true IC job is.
If the pay is truly 7 or 7.5 cpl, as an MTSO it seems odd you would work for such. sm

It is quite noble for you to work outside your service so that others in your company can have work -- I applaud you for your selflessness and consideration to those depending on you -- but ultimately, all of us, no matter how much we care about others, we have to take care of ourselves.  Unless you live in some place that has an incredibly low cost of living, and I cannot imagine where that would even be anymore, I cannot think that such a low wage would provide enough for you.

I guess a lot of us ARE angry -- why wouldn't we be?  Wages have gone down to a pittance.  Companies advertise they want the best MTs with scads of experience, then offer us a wage that even a newbie should turn down.   And perhaps we are all a bit cynical/hardened about the posts on here, because there HAVE been scams with management/leads double posting, misleading, etc.  In 1983, I made 10 cents per GROSS line ... now here we are.  I think mostly I am scared.  I am 50 years old ... where will I be 10 or even 5 years from now?  I read an article online where dumpster diving was becoming quite the vogue, but I shudder to think that is what is next.

Yeah, they like it when we grovel for our work. nm

Thank you! I'm looking for part-time work to supplement my no-work full-time job.
