Are there not enough physicians in India to keep work plentiful for their native transcriptionists?
I just can't imagine with India being such a large country that they are not swamped with MT work that can stay in their own country. I have always been curious in this regard. So tired of these large transcription companies using the shortage of U.S. MTs to get away with offshoring our work for slave wages. LET THEM TRANSCRIBE FOR PHYSICIANS IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY AND FOCUS ON THEIR COUNTRY'S HEALTH CARE AND QUIT BOTCHING IMPORTANT MEDICAL RECORDS THAT BELONG TO U.S. CITIZENS WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHO IS PRODUCING THE REPORT.
What I read was that they opened a center in India BUT were adding work for them and keeping their
domestic work force as well.
He obtained his medical record - sm
By having the hospital send them to him after he gave his permission in writing. He then handed them to me. I don't work for the hospital and did not obtain the records in a professional capacity. Good grief!
Electronic Medical Record, Artificial Speech Recognition, and

And for that matter, why do hospitals put up with the crap from India?
I have seen plenty of the work done by India and it is crap at its best. Why in heaven's name do Hospitals put up with this nonsense? We are always told the hospital has the choice, but I would bet the majority of them have no idea who is doing their work. Certainly, they can't think this is a good idea!
They send a majority of the Escription accounts to India. There are a few of the hospitals that said
they could not send their work there but I suspect they do anything. In any event, yes, a lot of the easier work goes to India and they are proud of this affliation, not bad it doesn't pay my bills. Then, they wonder why we are so angry about India taking our jobs.
tell everyone you know that medical records go to India
nm
It is not the hospitals on a short TAT it is what MQ wants to make the hospitals very happy with

them. I would assume the accounts are on 12, 24 or 48 TAT but wouldnt they love having their work back no sooner than it is dictated.

Naturopathic physicians
Look up naturopathy and naturopathic physicians via googling, etc., and get a list of them and contact them individually to determine if they need transcription of their reports. Also contact naturopathic medical schools (N.D. = doctor of naturopathy) to find out some resources. You have a great idea; my friends prefer to see N.D.'s rather than M.D.'s. Similar education in the basics.
Ha! Indian physicians used to do MT!
Maybe they still do???

Back in the early days of MT offshoring (10 years ago) I was, briefly, one of the early editors for the big offshoring company in MD. According to the CEO of the company at a small group meeting I attended, the Indian MTs were mostly/all male physicians who could apparently make more $$$ doing MT for the U.S. than they could practicing medicine in India. I thought it was sort of unethical as I'm sure there is no great surplus of physicians there. But I guess that's capitalism.

Incidentally, they were TERRIBLE transcriptionists. Their transcriptions went through two layers of Indian QA before getting to us and I still rarely had time to correct all the mistakes.

Of course it's possible that everything has changed there since then.
Have you heard what physicians are saying?

Even docs themselves are saying that they have to double or triple-book appointments now just to meet the rising costs and overhead.  How is that not effecting patient care? I may not have ever had a doc that walked out of a surgery halfway through, but I have had a doc actually say to me when I asked about diabetes education, 'Just don't eat a lot of carbs.'  I had just been diagnosed with type 2 DM and had all sorts of questions, but he was in too much of a hurry because he had a waiting room full of people. He didn't even tell me what medication he was giving me, just said I could pick it up at the desk and got angry when I pushed for answers.  Is that quality?

You have to have transcribed for 10 different physicians within the last 5 years. sm

Heard this from a friend who recently applied with them.

Physicians First Transcription Service

Has anyone heard of this company?   I know that they are located in Streetsboro, Ohio but I just wanted some of your feelings on this company before I applied.

Thank you,

Cheryl

Physicians Transcription Service
I worked for them for about 2 years.  Just call and talk with the owner.  She is very upfront and won't sugar coat anything.  She (Cheryl Roudybush) was very good to me.
I was also told need to look up referring physicians

Was never told of any raise off of QA only that where they are located they can't charge as much to the clients... yeah, okay, I believe that!  NOT!

How well does eScription do on heavy ESL physicians?
Also, how long after using this platform did you find yourself doubling in your productivity?  Anything you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
The setting your own schedule thing varies. For example, physicians who work in the ER may be
independent contractors, rather than employees, if they are moonlighting on weekends or whatever. But notice they are told what hours to work... There's no way to keep a transcription service alive with people working whatever hours they feel like whenever they feel like. That's just not reasonable.
NJPR is in NJ, not NY, stands for North Jersey Physicians Review I believe,
try googling for a web page, I am quite sure they have one, you can the info and I think a phone number there to call.
The hospital I work has no intention of outsourcing...physicians and administrators want inhouse tra
and Medquist hasn't bothered us at all. Our reps are still the same personable guys they have always been.
who tried keeping me down....sm

First, I got rid of the husband who consistently tried keeping me down and shooting me down, and my sanity comes first, in 1991, and then in 1997 I made up business cards, and every Thursday (my only day off) I solicited another medical center.  I sold myself and only walked into the offices of which work I wanted to do.  I got 5 doctors and surgeons that first year.  I went down to 2 MDs/ surgeons (one went into receivership which is a form of bankruptcy and 2 witches I dumped) , and so in 2000 started *moonlighting for MQ*......and still working for MQ and have 4 surgeons.

But every single Thursday I went and solicited another center in my area(s).  And if I ran out of work again today?  I'd do the exact same thing.  *S*

Best of luck to you......*S*

I'm keeping it...sm
But I won't use their uninstall software. I'm computer saavy enough to figure out what to uninstall on my own and that will leave on everything I need. They aren't getting off that easy.
just one more way of keeping us all
and make sure nobody's work is worth giving them a raise. rather ingenious when U think about it, albeit unethical.
Actually they are keeping
companies are offshoring and laying off or cutting pay, Transcend continues to grow it's US MT workforce and retain pay rates.  There is a reason they are in the ranking they are.
Thank you. I have been keeping a notebook
but have to email jobs, not fax, daily so thought it would be easier to do in a word document. Did not know about the Alt+tab, that should be of great help! Thanks again!
I had trouble keeping up with my
The QA department wants to proof everything before you get paid, therefore what you typed may not be what you get paid for.  I couldn't ever figure out how much I was going to receive.  People were real nice, accounts good, but there was room for dishonesty in line counting in my mind.
TT time keeping?
Do you punch in and out during the day for breaks, lunch, etc.   Do they have a built in time clock on their system or do you keep a manual log and if so how exact do you need to be.  Do you make a note of every potty break, etc.?  Do they use these minutes against lines to figure your LPH rate like MQ does?
IMO, MTSO may do this as way of keeping MT in
x
You are right!!! thanks for keeping it real
KK
I have been keeping a list ... SM

I am sure these are not all the Escription companies, but this is what I have noted over the last couple of years.

Transcend, TTS, MVTS, Superior Global, Deventure, Proveros, Focus, DeVenture, AlphaMed, Sten-Tel, Medical Ink, Chase, Lee Perfect, Spryance, Milner, Central Transcription Services, On Point Medical Transcription.

Keeping it fresh
Okay, now don't everyone jump on me here.  I've read the posts and I know the hardships we all face every day, BUT how do some of you keep it going after all of these years.  I mean sometimes I think that if I have to type one more report I'm going to go nuts.  Some of you have been in this longer than me at 15+ years. I have to do this another 15 years!  I live in a remote area so I can't just go get a job anywhere.  Some of you have done this 30 years.  What keeps you going?
Have you considered keeping the job you have
while working for a new company, that way you can decide if you like the new one before jumping all the way in. Your old job can be your safety net. Just a suggestion. Good luck to you!
What is the problem? Are you having trouble keeping up?
nm
Thanks so much for the info, Fran, keeping it under my hat!! NM

Keeping TT benefits question

TT says that we must work 80 hours in two weeks to keep our benefits.  Obviously I know this and am scheduled to work 80 hours in two weeks.  However, when running out of work is an every other day thing now, can they take away your benefits if you work say 72 to 75 hours?  I know they tell us there is always work at night or on your one weekend day off, but I picked my Tue-Sat schedule for a reason - because I have a life outside of work and don't have time to work nights or my days off!

It's not you. It's the Universe keeping you safe
My mom always said, If it's for you, you will get it. There is something better right around the corner. Good luck to you!
Re-record
Curious - Is the re-record from a hospital system or tape? Our FTP works great from the TN location. Which do you work out of?
I would just like to say for the record that
but COULD have written it. dang. So much for keeping my mouth shut lol
For the record sm
I have FOUR accounts, about 7 hospitals. There are residents and ESLs. It is neurosurgery to podiatry and all parts in between. It is OP notes and cardiology ONLY. They are not short and they are not easy, not relative to other places I have worked. You think a 14-minute dictation on an all-day surgery is easy stuff, with an exhausted doctor?

I don't sit still well. I am up and up and up with the dog or a drink or the bathroom. I have an 8-hour shift and if I am lucky, I sit for 5.5 to 6 hours of it and I make my minimums easily with some extra, sometimes a lot extra.

I am still learning the platform, but I like it. I tend to get a bur up my backside about a word I can't find and I do tend to look up old reports, sometimes lots, sometimes a couple of them. This is what wastes my time, but not especially. I am doing less of this each day as I learn a few common things. Because I waste that time I have only sent 3 reports to QA all week and only double that number with any blanks. I WORK for this and I tenaciously research words so that I don't have blanks.

There will always be this negativity because not all of you work this hard. I am not going to say I am a better MT, I don't know that and I would not presume, but I do work hard with a good expander.
For the record
Just think...you are calling people in India low-life trash because they are trying to make a living and feed their families by doing the same type of work you do but for about 1/10 the cost. That must mean they are willing to do whatever they can to feed and cloth their families.

All kinds of industry is offshored these days because the company needs to make a profit. Without the profit being made by the offshore people that you call low lifes, you probably wouldn't be getting the 8 or 10cpl you are getting now because the company could not afford to pay you.

If Transcend doesn't care about their people, why did I get a personal phone call from the CEO during Medical Transcription Week? Of course they care about us. There would not be a company without us. Do they all know each of us by name? No....but the people I work directly with know me and are very caring and supportive if I need time off for a personal reason.

Some people are never happy and you may be one of them. You will always find something to bitch about if you want to bitch. A person can only be happy if they are grateful for what they have. Try and attitude of gratitude and it will make a difference.
OKAY LET ME SET THE RECORD.....
Straight. My reports have no PHI none whatsoever on them or in them or anything to that nature. I know exactly how the confidentiality works, I have had 5 years in a hospital facility doing more than just medical records, so I should know the HIPAA law, legal and nonlegal regulations. Many of you don't know if these were reports saved from my schooling or nothing. Many of you are just jumping the gun as usual, and it don't surprise me none. I am not getting sassy, but I think I left out additional information to let you think that. My fault on that part. You all have a nice day
And just for the record,
I am NOT an owner, supervisor, or QA person. I am one of the people sitting at the bottom of the hill.

Time for my bath, methinks.

I loved my job at DRC ~ ADORED is probably a better word. It was going to be where my career ended, when I was 66.

When Acusis ate DRC, I didn't wig out.  It sounded like everything was going to be just fine.  Little by little, though, it became apparent that regardless if we wanted to believe it or not, something bad was coming...

We just didn't know what.

To be perfectly honest, had my pay cut been only 10%, I would have stayed.  Even 15% probably.  Because even with a 10-15% pay cut, I still could have made bills doing what I loved to do, even if it meant putting up with 2145 emails a day and scraping to make lines.

20% was a deal breaker...30% was a deal breaker...and surely 50% was a deal breaker.  I think they knew it would be.  I think they didn't really care if we all left because we had mentored and edited and trained our replacements already.

The very few times I ever posted on this message board about Acusis before this life changer happened, it was only about positive things.  How nice it was we got a mug, a notepad, post-its, a pen.  I appreciated my job.

Too bad they didn't appreciate us.

The point is, I guess, that in this business, message boards like this are really our only conduit for information.  It is where I have come every time I have been in the market for a job and where I have found the information I needed to form a decision about which companies to pursue and which ones to not.

Fact of the matter is, that the companies who get slammed the hardest, probably have it coming.  As someone has said already, before all this you were hard pressed to even see the name Acusis on this board.

Now look at it.

It's a shame really.

But that is just my .45 cents worth

Here's a record low
Babysat my computer screen for nearly 12 hours today and made under 200 lines. What the heck is going on? I mean, I have heard of low work, but this is ridiculous.
Just for the record
Because I am retired, I have the time and the means to fight for the rights of working MTs.  Would you like me to stop?  I may or may not be able to do any good but give me E for effort.
Good Luck Keeping Your Job at Heartland!!

I think I have had enough! Yes, I admit, I currently work for Heartland and truly thought they wanted a domestic team. I didn't think much of the managment changes and truly thought we (domestic MT team) would be okay even if HIS was sold, well think AGAIN!

We are being fed a load of crap from the new President (Dennis Paulik)!! The below was sent to me annoynomously. I think that all US-based MTs for HIS should up and leave! Why wait, obviously, he has "other" intentions that don't include us - the USA TEAM!!!!!!

Heartland Information Services, Toledo, Ohio, which employs 1,400 to 1,500 foreign transcriptionists in three cities of India, may help explain why. Dennis Paulik, Heartland's vice president of sales and marketing, says that HIPAA standards are applied to all transactions, including anything outsourced. The company leases private, transoceanic lines, so all transactions are encrypted from the time the information leaves the hospital, to the moment it is dispatched from Heartland's U.S. offices to a transcription center in India, until processing is complete and the medical transcript goes back to the hospital.

Paulik says he hears time and again that there aren't enough U.S. transcriptionists, and that those who do still work here are an aging population--the average trained American transcriptionist's age, he says, is about 59 years. It's one reason his company was formed, he says.

"You're going to have a growing need, and fewer transcriptionists," Paulik says. "It reinforces that point that people have just got to go overseas."

I can understand keeping tabs- but I work for them
and if I take a bathroom break, get a drink of water, etc., etc. I don’t hear about it. I can only think if you are gone from the computer for a period of time, say 30 minutes and leave a report on, sure they can know. I don’t worry about the foot pedal coming up and down and them counting because I always try to have it on and fast forward. I know they know what you have worked on, your line counts, and like that, but if you take a bathroom break, come on now!
I had to re-record. My account was 90%
Indian dictators.  Sound quality was bad to start with and with recording even worse.  Very hard to get lines.  The platform was not user friendly.   People were nice but severely disorganized.  I don't remember the pay, but definitely not enough.
If you have been there for 3 years - a record BTW
that the current QA mgr only got her job because the previous one was fired after letting the cat out of the bag about OSi sending work offshore when they had been lying about it.

Wait... I take that back, the mgr of training who has more experience than everyone else combined was THEN hired on and given the QA mgr job to replace the former one - HOWEVER - the current mgr threw a hissy and somehow managed to brown nose her way into that job which forced them to give the training job to the other person.

Of course if you have seen the revolving door at QA since that 'promotion' you are surely aware there can be only one reason for it. She fires anyone who poses a threat to her because she is afraid she will lose her job UNLESS they quit before she has the chance to do so. She is not qualified to edit reports, thus the management job. JOKE JOKE JOKE... BUH BYE
Did you read anything on For The Record? sm
I did, and I was impressed with the CEO's determination, going back several years, to put a standardized method of line/ks counting for the MT industry, not just here, not just in India, but globally (as he seemed to like to say!) If that's what he means by transparency in billing methods, I'm all for it... and shame on all the big and small MTSOs who count one way for the client and another way for the MT.
I used to work there and they re-record...
that is why the sound is so bad...I was told that by a lead there...
Just to set the record straight (sm)
