They are up for a HUGE account in Chicago. I work for one of the hospitals sm

In Reply to: They had MTs - plenty of them - Ex-Superior

and would be offered a position to work with them if it happens. I am very worried now. The last hospital I worked for went with Medquist and we all lost our jobs. They did offer us jobs but not on the hospital we worked for. I went to this other one and now this :(

The University of Pennsylvania Health System Hospitals is huge in Philadelphia. Do they hire their
own MTs for those hospitals does anyone know. They must have a large amount of transcription to be done.
How would we know that they lost a huge account? sm
They never communicate with their MTs.
Yes, they are hiring because they just got a HUGE account.
Ops and cardiology right now but all kinds of work. I am loving every second of it! :)
that's because Webmedx took over a huge account they used to have. nm
.
Transtech has a huge hem/onc account

I work for the Chicago office

I have worked  part time as an SE for about 2 years or so out of the Chicago office.  Overall, I would recommend them.  Everyone in the office that I have dealt with is very nice.  They pretty much leave you alone to do your work, although do require you to submit a schedule.   Lately, we have had lots of work, even with a couple of bonuses offered lately, although sometimes in the mornings work will be scarce.  For about the first year I was there, running out of work was a daily occurrence and the only way to get any lines was to work at night and work multiple accounts.

The only concern I would express is that there is a history of overstaffing of the accounts, and if you are counting on them for your only income, you might think about keeping a  backup job.  (I have another full time job, so MQ is just extra $ for me).

Good Luck

I don't know. The company I work for is out of Chicago - sm
and I have no idea if they offshore or not. It seems that offshoring is the way a lot of companies are going. This is not a large company, but you never know. We were swamped with work until about May of last year and then I noticed ads for MTs for the company I work for. Ever since June or July, it has been terrible, but bearable (because they overhired). But this is ridiculous! I have been looking for another company to supplement this one, and I pass all the tests, but either I never hear from them again or I get offered a ridiculous rate. Being that things are the way they are now, taking a one-third cut in pay from another company is better than nothing.
They lost a huge account in Alabama
to work it.  It was probably one of their biggest accounts and they didn't keep it long.  Beware.
No clue, all I was told is it's a huge new account.
If it's west coast, that's scary, I do west coast accounts now for another company and they're all horrible.  This one I'm supposed to be doing is on Enterprise platform?
Transtech has a huge oncology account
:)
what are you talking about - there is a huge backlog on the oncology account....
they are even offering bonuses to help get the work load into TAT. What account are you on and what center are you talking about?
From what I know the three hospitals are actually one big account with three facilities and then
the fourth is a cancer center. I have worked at Transtech for almost two years and it's the best job I've ever had. I think you will have a primary account and then a backup. I don't know of anyone here who has more than that.
I think this could only be done with a huge client base, or a huge number of say only
s
LOLOL! I don't think we will ever run out of work. They have added three huge
accounts this month alone and I know that there are two scheduled for next month and two the month after. They are growing like crazy and I cannot believe we will ever be slow.
Do any companies let you specialize rather than work out of a huge pool? nm
nm
Out of work here, too--and I have 4 huge hospital accounts!! GRRR nm
x
You've got to be kidding! It makes a HUGE difference. I sure wouldn't want to work with

No work on four hospitals
I'd like to know how it happens that four hospitals can suddenly just stop dictating, and work suddenly just get slow, on all of them at the same time, and them not even in the same group.  I think the company has hired too many transcriptionists and can't keep them busy, or is offshoring most everything, but telling us a different story.  Is there any way to find out what's the real case?  XXXXX  It has happened several times like this over the past five years, and I am getting fed up.  Are all companies like this or is this the only one where this sort of thing happens? People get sick and have operations every day of the year.  They don't suddenly stop going to the hospital.  Are they playing on our stupidity, or could this be legitimate? I find it very hard to believe.  I'm a seasoned MT with 15 years' experience, and provide excellent work. What' up?
I think one of the hospitals is onto them about offshoring their work
x
Hospitals that allow even PART of their work to be
offshored, know FULL WELL that they are taking the livelihood away from American workers. And the one in charge of signing on that dotted line would be MAD AS HE11 if someone did that to their job.

Yes, the work is VERY begrudginly kept in the USA. And they charge more for it than they do for India-work. But they're just biding their time, because they know that eventually, most likely sooner rather than later, American medical transcriptionists are going to be 100% PRICED OUT of their careers.

BITE ME, transcription industry!
It is not the hospitals on a short TAT it is what MQ wants to make the hospitals very happy with

them. I would assume the accounts are on 12, 24 or 48 TAT but wouldnt they love having their work back no sooner than it is dictated.

I guess this explains part of the reason we keep running out of work. My office lost a lot of huge
accounts in the past year.
Could it be that so many work from home or in the basement of hospitals? sm
This is NOT generalizing because I know several MTs who are not psycho, but I have met so many absolute nut cases in this field that I question my own sanity after listening to them!

We had an MT at the hospital I used to work for that called security because she was certain that someone moved her chair and wanted a full investigation. She could not accept that perhaps the cleaning crew did this!
Weekend work has been going on in hospitals many years but
weekend workers generally rotate if they work in house or they used to. This should be the way these companies do this rather than tie up every weekend. It would be easier to find someone if they rotated their weekends and were firm about the commitment. It is not that hard. It is about good management and if they can't manage to get that commitment, then companies need new management to implement that kind of thing. Finding weekend workers would be a lot easier.
Does anyone work for any hospitals in the Pittsburgh area. nm
:
Most hospitals will. Pay your dues (work cheaper to get experience.)

The hospitals that I have worked at and the ones that friends of mine work for sm
all have a two week delay between the last day of the pay period and the payday. Same exact lenght - ends on the 30th, pays on the 15th.

I am not trying to argue, but I don't understand what you find wrong with this. The companies (all of them) need time to bill their clients and to process payroll. Some of the smaller ones probably have to wait to get paid too.

I work for KS and get paid on time every two weeks. The consistency is important to me as a single parent. I tried working for a small company but found that they had to wait to get paid and unfortunately, GMAC would not wait for me to wait to get paid. Going to a national like KS solved that problem and I can count on getting paid on the 1st and 15th of each month.
Most of the time it is for security reasons. We do work for 4 hospitals sm
and 3 of them want us to take someone off the account immediately when someone gives notice. This is their in-house policy as well with any staff member with access to medical or financial records.
Apparently, they undercut because they have MTs who work for free and the hospitals had to pay them.
I know people didnt intend on working there for free but it sounds like too many MTs didnt get paid.
Only if you work directly for their hospitals, not as a Diskriter employee. nm
nm
I have talked to too many hospitals that do not care if the work is done offshore. sm
It is hard enough for the public to understand what we do, much less have them stand behind us in this.
I saw postings that all our work was overflow/extra support for hospitals. (sm)

Whatever happened, it has been ongoing since around the Memorial Day holiday.  I too am getting worried.  Christmas coming up, winter utility bills, not to mention the every day expenses we have in order to survive.

I am picking up a PT position.  May be a little tired working the 2, but for right now it covers my butt.

Chicago
I work mostly (probably 90%) on one account, but I don't work 40 hour weeks.  It also depends on the time of day.  The people who work dayturn, especially mornings, need to work several accounts, but my main account has been busy lately and has not run out for several months, even in the mornings.
Chicago you are so right
Not that I'm crazy about Dr. Phil but, he has always said (paraphrasing here) People will do to you what you allow them to do. Same message. We're in this mess because we're all afraid to stand up for ourselves. We need a Norma Rae
Chicago, too --
Any and all e-mails were in your face, even very simple questions.  Felt like a physical assault, and totally unnecessary and demeaning.
yeah - they haven't told a couple of hospitals that they are offshoring their work - but I think
x
Then when we MT's are **thrown on** an account because of lack of work on our account

What is so hard to understand about that?

Then we have that account info filed away in a folder in our Outlook Express by name of account and can look at past emails sent out regarding that account.  Not fun to be tossed on an account that you have never seen NOR ever received an email on.  Sounds like business to me.

Chicago MQ--closing

Do you know where you are going to be transferred to???  Please not to Amherst

Does anyone know how many MQ offices are actually left???

Is this company from Chicago?
Is it Lee Perfect?
I think it is a chicago-based
company.  I checked with it once last November and was told they weren't hiring at the time.
No, not Chicago, bit further east. nm
.
We band together and start our own company offering our services to the hospitals we've been work

on already and take our accounts back from Transcend.  I haven't signed any noncompete contract with Transcend.  Would the MDI one be null and void? If my pay rate is null and void, so must my noncompete.  They can't have it both ways.

And Chicago CSC is closing also as of end of October...nm
nm
Just a heads up for both of you, Chicago/Tinley will be
shutting its doors by the end of this year. All accounts are headed to another state. I know some of the office staff are already job hunting.
checks are getting later - told b/c Chicago
post office is worst in the nation; EMDAT system is pretty buggy/prone to crashes and the GI account is horrible with that I have heard; Transnet accounts are good. No QA per se - we were told not to send blanks to QA unless there were multiple ?s as they do not have time to go through and listen to the files (!!). Front desk is nice - good luck on getting help with tech support. You will not be informed of staff turnovers (but there have been a good number). Direct deposit costs you $10/check; Transnet rental costs you $10/check (yet when foot pedal breaks they want you to pay for fixing). Pay is 9 c/line for most accounts with 24 hr TAT. That cover it?
Chicago, you hit the nail on the head (SM)
Definitely listen to your gut.  If it doesn't add up, it doesn't add up...period.  No amount of rolling it around in your mind to get it to add up will fix it.  Protect yourself and do whatcha gotta do, which is what I'm doing with the information my gut is screaming at me.
My account has lots of work..ask for another account/nm
**
Maybe is it for a particular account. I work M-F. You are required to work one weekend an month.
a
I used to work there and know people who still do...they have no work on clinic account but if you
are acute care or have experience in acute care you will be fine...
I work for them, have no problems with the account/work - sm
New insurance plan went into effect - I think it is really good, but that's just my opinion. They send you the equipment. They have incentive. I like it. Can't complain.
What account do you work?
