Today is Columbus day, and state offices and post office

is closed. Perhaps some docs took a long weekend. Maybe that is why on this particular Monday the work is trickling in. I am just getting some work now. So maybe it will come in later. Just an idea, about it being a holiday.

Columbus Office
I am in the Columbus office.  There is ALWAYS plenty of work (more than I think can ever be done :-)  But, I don't like my hours being micromanaged (I'm an SE) and am producing WAY over minimum, so don't bug me if I work 3 hours and produce 1000 lines, when I could really slow it down and do my minimum 400 lines a day and drag it out to 5 hours.
Dewey/MQ Columbus office closing

I know there have been post on this board about the Columbus/Ohio office closing BUT, these were "leaks from inhouse", speculation, etc....as is the norm with MQ.

So, I'm not sure if they do close where we would all go, get transferred to etc.  I just pray they don't..why mess with a great thing ya know?

Very likely she was out of the office today
I'm not sure, anyway you can rest assure she will get back to you when she can. They don't play games at Transtech but really do have a lot going on right now.
good post, but sad state of affairs nm

.

I'm like to know the answer to her post also. I have worked for an MT company in NY state,
and while I lived in another state at that time, I received full benefits; Ic or employee status had no bearing on receiving benefits.  If I were the original poster, I would check this company out very thoroughly. Something just doesn't sound right tax-wise.
Wouldn't we all..but I did apply and have not heard anything. See the post below where they state
the work is consistent and sporadic.  I just figured something like that could be a good IC job and still keep my FT.
Post nicely today. (SM)

That includes no name-calling, no stalking, no harassment, no language, etc.

Everyone can have their opinion.

Interviewed with them today. See post further down pg

What happened to post earlier today regarding MD-IT?

The regular local post office
Do you live in a small town? (Not sure if thatshould really matter). I live in a medium size town near a semi-large city in NY. The reason I ask is if I mail something to my relatives out of state or even if they send me something in never takes more than 2 days, that's why I thought 10 days sounded excessive. Are you sure they're mailing the pay checks when they say they are?
The post was made on a Sunday night -- no one in the office really to ask then. sm
And it seemed a harmless question.   He/she wasn't really asking a policy question ... just a general question regarding when the payday is.  Most companies that I have worked for, if the payday is over a weekend, they pay on Friday.  Unfortunately, that is not the case here, but at least they are upfront about it, and it says so in the paperwork somewhere.
Kind of hard to blame the post office when
the company hasn't even mailed it!
Thanks guys for taking the time to respond to my post. I'll go with the State job if offered.
I may do some PT/IC a couple days of the week just to keep my skills up and just in case they offer the lower rate of pay.

Gonna miss you Guys. Thanks for all your help.
Problem resolved. Was a post office issue apparently. nm
nm
I wouldn't waste my time calling the Post Office
Breitner is dishonest when it comes to their check mailing and check amounts. Same thing happened to me when I worked there and I went through the steps tracking it down.  They ended up cutting me another check (weeks later) - ITS ALL A STALL TACTIC.  Find employment elsewhere.  This will continue to happen until you leave the company.  Good Luck.
Note post on main board re: MTIA forcing credentialing. Can we say police state?
??
Great post and very true! I read these today and was amazed that someone's first thought was pay
I agree that circumstances can make loans necessary but the OP sounded more like she uses these on a regular basis. No I'll have to learn to budget for the difference, just oh no, now I need to go to Payday Loans and pay 400% interest.

We have the potential to earn what we need to, although sometimes lately it is harder and harder.

Good for all of you. Wish I had seen these earlier.

p.s. Can someone call and tell my BIL to grow up too?
patients care....tell post office, tellers, cashier, neighbor,

Goodbye Columbus...
Yes, I'm afraid Columbus is closing in December - and its not a rumor but fact...sniffle,sniffle...
MQ-Columbus/Amherst
I too work for the Colunbus office and it is the best. I have one primary acct and I am able to do 15,000 lines a pay period and never worry about running out of work. I am not bragging about it, I feel sorry for the MT's in the Amherst office and wish that your office was run like the Columbus office. Why do the big wigs let something like this continue on and give MQ a bad name. Rumor has it that my office is closing and we are being transferred to the Cleveland office, that is fine, as long as it is not to the Amherst office.
MQ Columbus/OHIO SC

Not sure how long you have been with Columbus Buffy, but Columbus is now the ONLY Ohio CSC, ergo called the Ohio CSC.  Cleveland, Toledo, Dayton & Cincinnati were consolidated 2 years ago under the Columbus office to form the Ohio CSC.  Now many of my old timer's that I started with inhouse went home to either work or retire.

I've been with them for 21 years now (starting with the old Transcriptions Limited) and have been through more supervisors, coordinator's and managers than I care to think about, but I honestly believe the reason we are so successful now is that our operations manager has been there/done that.  Started as an inhouse M/assistant, worked up a few notches into various positions IE; scheduling, weekend coordinator, supe, etc.  Went home to MT for a while then came back in a few years back and really worked her way up into the present position.  Her ability to know what's needed all the way around, delegate and common sense attitude really speaks for itself in how successful we are.

Nope, never met the OM, only talked to her on the phone over the years and am not *the cheerleader*.  Only stating what I know for a fact and what works for my CSC.

Do they still do Doc Hospital of Columbus,GA
Loved that account, then it went to India. Does Heartland still have that account? Thanks!
the only time I ran out was on columbus day
other than that nope. I'm sure it will be quite slow thanksgiving week, which is okay with me and christmas week. I'm used to that from when I was doing my own accounts, the docs usually took those weeks off or all the patients would :) But I'm good with it, at least I can spend time with my kids while they are on school breaks...I just have to plan ahead. Feel free to email me anytime, its nice talking with someone who I work with.
Info on Columbus MQ and DEP platform...anything you can give me.

Unless something has changed, health insurance rates vary state by state, so we may not have the
info you need.  I'm an IC so I don't have benefits.
You are correct. The state that rules is the state the employee lives in.
My state laws has is spelled out in their Code. If another state does not withhold, they are fined heavily and if they don't withhold for years, their fines are pretty bad. I worked for a Florida co that did not withhold income tax for my state even after I brought it to their attention in the state code. They kept saying that they would eventually and never did. After two plus years and when I left, I made it known to my state all the conversations, the state refunded me all late fees they charged me and then said they were going after the company in Florida because they had many employees in our state. They deserved it. They knew better.
The state you live in or the state where the MTSO is located? nm
nm
The main office was in Bolingbrook but they built an office in Yorkville last fall. SM
I think that the owners live in Yorkville, so it was built close to their house. Nice office, just pretty far out.
If company is in state that has no state taxes
they are not required to take out state taxes.  It's enough to keep up with your own state tax law code, could you imagine having to stay abreast of 49 other state tax codes?  The cost would be huge and ultimately passed on to us by lower line rates.  Regardless of who owes the tax, someone has to pay it.  Just a matter of convenience I guess.
Not state by state, federal labor law - sm
and you don't have to be asked. If you work it, asked or not, they have to pay time and a half OT rate for hours worked over 40 in a week.

Taken right from U.S. Dept of Labor -
An employer who requires or PERMITS an employee to work overtime is generally required to pay the employee premium pay for such overtime work. Employees covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)MUST receive overtime pay for hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek of at least one and one-half times their regular rates of pay. The FLSA does not require overtime pay for work on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, or regular days of rest.

Extra pay for working weekends or nights is a matter of agreement between the employer and the employee (or the employee's representative). The FLSA does not require extra pay for weekend or night work or double time pay.

Different state to state. You would be surprised to find

IC can be defined differently state to state.  Even the IRS cannot come up with a definitive set of rules.  You would be surprised how many ICs actually get unemployment in some states.  If the unemployment claim form asks specifically if you are an independent contractor, do not lie, but if it does not, do not volunteer it.  Let the company prove you are a true IC according to the rules of your state.  All you lose is a few minutes filling out the claim form.  I would only do it as a last resort.  If you can find work fast, by all means go for it, but the way things are now with all the VR and off-shoring, it is a backup if you cannot find work.  No one should go hungry because they are afraid to file for Unemployment as an IC.

Just curious, is the MQ Nashville office the old Lanier office? nm
nm
I don't work in the office and never claimed to. I am just saying that since the new office open
October with everyone of the admin staff in one place, these problems do not occur any more.
MQ offices
you got it---no, all offices are not run the same, some have different line requirements, some offer incentives, bonus's and even give a yearly review with a possibility of a raise--of course, all those things that i just mention do not pertain to my office. we have no incentives, bonus's, and i can;t remember the last time we were given a yearly review. if you wanted a raise you needed to call and ask and then follow up on it and hope that you would get one--i only wish that MQ did run all their offices the same--if you have a choice, go to the Ohio MQ office, my girlfriend is there and they are the best--stay away from the northeast
MQ offices
Not only stay away from the Northeast but the Southeast -the company is a complete disaster, and every office does as it pleases to suit the administrative people, NOT the MT.
MQ offices
The MQ office by me was told there is a hiring freeze for office workers, so they are quite concerned about their office.
been through three offices sm
since March! Going to Florida office starting September 1 with payroll being done in Dallas. Currently with Atlanta but was transferred there from Durham NC in March or April. Can't remember. If you are making 9.5 cents a line YEAH! I have been with them since 1983 when they were Transcriptions Limited and doing your job, doing extra, etc. etc. will get you a raise.
been through three offices
I work on four different accounts. They are very large accounts that I have worked on since 1990. I am not sure it would be appropriate to name them on a public board though. Sorry. How long have you worked for MQ?
There are so many MQ offices.... sm

and as far as I can tell from all the posts, each one operates as if it were a separate company.  So when you state that you are happy at MQ, isn't it true that you are one of the lucky ones who happens to be at a good MQ office?  It's so confusing when an MQ MT says they are happy and encourages others to apply. Wouldn't I be applying to "MQ" and thus end up where they place me?  Or does each office hire on their own?  And if some offices are better than others, why don't MTs who are so unhappy transfer to a good office?  I don't get it.

(Note:  I posted this way down below but I figured it would get more attention here on top)

re so many MQ offices

when a MQ emp encourages you to apply, they should give their name & office location to put on your application (under referral).  Then they MIGHT be eligible for a ref bonus and you would be hired into that office, hence, would be with a good office.  Unhappy people and all those 'why's mentioned are definitely hard to figure.

p.s. i tried to respond under appropriate post but system wouldn't let me.

They have offices in CA and NY, as well....
as India.
What offices have you worked for in MQ and which one are you in now.
:
Allegiant has two offices...
one in Kentucky, one in Florida
local offices

what is the best way in getting starting for working for local doctors?  Get business cards made up, show them a resume?  I have often thought about this and afraid to take the leap.  is this reliable work?  I'm sure they can let you go whenever they want but I guess that's the case anywhere.    please, any info would help.

nurses in offices
You can get a job as a nurse in a doctor's office. That is M-F, 9-5. You can also get a job as a home health nurse or a nurse at a large business or a school. There are lots of options besides hospitals with their graveyard shifts.

I think nursing is good job security. The job ads in our local paper are really drying up *except* ads for nurses.
Many doctors' offices have something else

Maybe they don't call it transcription or VR, but my doctors use a laptop on a rolling cart that they take from room to room.  It's a point and click system, though they may enter vital signs and drug names manually.  They tell me that it produces reports so that there is no need for any transcriptionists or editors.

Where I currently work, less than 3% of the reports are standard transcription; everything else is VR.

Well, I know that MTs from my office have quite MQ and they dont post on here but I dont know how
many. I think MTs with MQ may be getting second jobs and just working for 2 different places at the same time which is probably the smart thing to do anymore because MQ will continue with this short TAT and as it spreads throughout other  offices people will continually be running out of work especially after going on DQS.
Which three offices will remain open?
Do you know?
Heartland already closed two offices

in India...they are surely closing down entire transcription business by coming December

Sources saying they were never making any money in transcription business. How will someone make money by sending work overseas and that too not keeping a track of what each individual Transcriptionist or Editor or QA is producing?

heard they are moving offices. NM
