Oops.. Wait, wrong name for me... "Cheerleader" that, now I think that was it wasn't it?
s
WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! We turn down work because so many hospitals are sm
calling wanting a company that keeps work in the USA. The trend was stronger a few years ago before it all came to light about poor quality, the woman in Pakistan who threatened to post medical records on the web, 911, etc. There are hospitals who look for US-only and they are the MAJORITY not the minority. Definitely seeing the tide turn on offshore from an MTSO perspective, both MTs and customers!!!!!
Yay!! I know you are relieved. Just hope
Monday so we will get them as we did on 7/25/08
I am utterly RELIEVED I didn't take a job with them!
xx
I'm very relieved to hear that...thanks for updating us! nm

I cannot see why anyone particularly IC would sit and wait on work. That is almost
too hard to believe.  It is absolutely allowing someone else to make a total fool out of you.  I refuse to do that.  There are enough PT jobs around that you can run 2 at the same time.  It is inevitable that eventually people will just get out of this business unless you have other income and could care less about the overhiring.  I would think that most people are in this to make money for necessities but maybe I am wrong.  I have far better things to do with my life than sit and stare at an empty computer waiting on work.  I let them know it and I would hope other MTs do the same.
You don't have to "sit and wait" for work if
No company can make you sit and wait for free. They cannot FORCE you to do this.

You will have to make up your mind how to handle this type of situation.

I work for 2 companies (one FT and one PT) and here's how I what I do for both:
1. One company has a policy on what to do if work runs out so I keep a printed copy of it. The other company doesn't so I asked my supervisor in an e-mail what the company expects if we run out of work. I printed off her reply (date/time-stamped e-mail).

2. I keep day-by-day calendar for the days I work. If I run out of work, literally run out - no more work - not where I don't have work I like or normally get - if it is for the company with a policy, follow it. Then I am released from work and I either offer to make it up or take PTO but I try to make it up if I can fit it in my schedule. If it is the other company with no policy about no work, I simply send an e-mail to my supervisor and copy her manager and a copy to the HR department and a blindcopy to myself with NO WORK AVAILABLE in the subject line. In the e-mail, I list the day/time and that I have no work available. I state what my plan is (make it up on xx day) unless I am contacted by management by X time (I list the time 30 minutes from when I ran out of work and am sending the e-mail).

3. Print off a copy of the e-mail I sent (from my sent box).

4. If management calls me with more work, I get the e-mail I sent to everyone and send it back to everyone thanking them for their contact at XX time and confirming what was arranged. Again, print off a copy of what I sent out of the sent box. If no one ever contacts me, I note that on my printed copy.

This way, I have:
1. Followed any policy.
2. Clearly notified management and HR of the situation.
3. Made my backup plan clearly known.
4. Given them opportunity to respond to resolve.
5. Keep legally recognized and accepted notes (calendar notes what happened; copies of e-mails sent) of how I handled the situation.

If your management requires you to call and leave a voice message, that's fine but ALWAYS follow up in e-mail for proof. It is especially important to print off these types of e-mails, especially if you have a company e-mail address that can be terminated.

Hope this helps.

While I wait to win the lottery, I need to continue to work....
Does anybody have any information on this company out of NJ? I've done a thorough search and absolutely no information is available. HelP?? TIA
I have work, just had to wait about 20 minutes after I signed in..no biggie. nm

You will need 15 hours out of your day to reach your line count because you have to wait on work..sm

to trickle in.  The pay is good, always on time, Q/A is not good, platform is good.  In my opionion, they have over hired on many accounts and this causes a lot of down time therefore causing you to work all day and night long to get in your counts in...if you don't care about hearing requested dictation completed....good company!

You will be hired fast and then wait weeks or months for work...SM
You may be asked to invest in expensive equipment, likely to run out of work regularly and not have your calls returned when you try to contact them. They do pay well but the work is NOT there more than it is, so great pay doesn't mean much. They sell it to you great but they don't deliver.
I work at DRC now and would be glad

respond via e-mail.  Been burned severely on these boards before and don't wish to go through that again.

I'm glad you have work
They told me to be patient after four days of no work. Patience doesn't pay my bills!
Be glad, there is no work here. nm

I'm glad someone is getting work.

I've been on since about 8 a.m. and now it is 12:45 p.m. and I have a total of 221 lines.

Glad you have so much work. I
came from TRS, work in 2 platforms, have never been offered work in any of the Transcend platforms and when asked for another account was told no!  Have had not enough work available for a while now.
I was told I should be glad to work for 6 cpl w/ 5 yrs exp
I told her to off this job to someone in India.

Her response was she had people glad to work for 6 cpl with ONLY 5 YRS EXPERIENCE.

She should be able to afford ONLY 9 CPL . You would think anyway.

lol
Glad to know I'm not the only one struggling to get work -- sad. nm

I am glad I work at OSi. Never been happier.(nm)
nm
I'm glad you never run out of work..you must be typing (sm)

a specialty other than ERs.  I ran out of work quite often over 8 years but could usually make it up later in the week or in the evenings.  MQ also lost several different ER accounts that I typed so that was another reason for no work. Starting in January 2006 after they introduced their rewards pay scale, through July there were days when I typed 3-4 reports when I signed on and then the rest of the day had little or no reports.  I constantly asked for  more work but MQ told me they had no more ER accounts.  I did other basic 4 types but ran out of those as well. I even asked for a Radiology account because I had done Radiology for a local hospital several years earlier.  I wish things had been different for me at MQ because they were always flexible with me and I had good benefits there. I planned on staying there for the rest of my career.  That was why it took me so long to leave, I thought things would pick up and get better.  I'm glad some people still like it there and have plenty of work.  I wish that had been the case with me.

Yep. That's why I am glad I work at home. Yet
we have echos of in-house right here, and it sounds very familiar. Ahh, like the old days at the water cooler. Not! LOL.
Thank you! I am glad to hear that there is clinic work with SM

I work 40 hours a week. I'm glad you're
back to making good money, but I don't feel that I-chart is ripping me off. If I did, I wouldn't stay.
I am glad I work on VR but what kind of line count
are you trying to get. What do you want to make, $ wise or line wise?
I no longer work there … kinda glad now. Sorry to see the changes that have happened. nm

x

And we're glad you left too. Plenty of work for the rest of us. nm
.
Why, Is something wrong? I used to work with them
I just sent a note to say hi and heard nothing back. Where did you get this info?
I am glad to hear that a lot of money can be made with MT work. This gives me hope for the future.
$$
Wrong- employee only. No SE work at all
nm
Nothing wrong with that. Their work requires someone with
that set in stone requirement.
It could be that you are on the wrong account, there is a lot of work.
Things are busy. If you'd like, send me a private e-mail. I think I can help.
WRONG - I work on 2 which are NOT overflow and know of 3 more sm
in my own STM group that are not.
So you are supposed to work until that minute like nothing is wrong? sm
Do they really expect everyone to just say OK and carry on as usual until that time? They're nuts.

I don't think it'd work just to unionize here. Timing's wrong. SM
Actually, the phrase Pissing into the wind, comes to mind. Once the folks offshore competing for the same work unionize, then maybe. (Did you notice that successful unions are for lines of work that can't be sent offshore? Inability to replace workers is key.) And once EMRs come into widespread use here in the States and a new workforce has transitioned around them, maybe. Being an optimist, I also like to think that countries with new growing middle classes will start producing, not only more demand for middle class wages, but plenty of local work too generated from people who will also get to benefit from this amazing medical revolution we're all part of. In the meantime, identifying and training for a position in the medical information field or another that will/should have decent-paying work in the future would be a good idea for any of us. Anyway, that's what I think.
You have it all wrong. I work SMARTER, not harder.

I will take on any acct. After months of getting used to it, I see what I am making an hour. If it is worth the work required to do that acct, great. If it isnt, I ask to be taken off acct and so far, have never been refused. Sometimes takes little while for them to get another MT for acct but have never been refused. Company is not working for the prestige, loyalty to an acct, or ME for that matter, or for the good of mankind. Why should I? I am in this for the money, just like the company. I am very much a pro, which is probably why companies would rather have me on another acct, than to quit giving me work all together. They know many companies are always looking for a good MT.   Like other posters, I dont understand why someone would work below their worth. There are too many companies out there to try. I have tried several, staying with the ones where I could make good money.

Well, it wouldn't work for me - (wrong equipment).
to make hanging look like an accident (for an adult, anyway). Making it appear that it was part of a partial-asphyxiation sex act seems like the only way to do it. Unless, of course, he was messing around with some other person who fled the scene once things went wrong.

You're right, though... very sad.
I am so glad, so very glad that finally I have reached
the age that if we are low on work, I just take off. No problem at all and love the extra day or so off. I now have worked since the 70s and finally made to retirement age, get SS plus other retirement money coming in and thank the good Lord do not have to worry about if there is work or not. BTW, when I worked inhouse never ran out of work ever, only when transferring out to company do they run out of work. If I had to raise a family now I would most certainly cross train on other accts at my place but only have 1 that I work on, by choice.
I dont know what that means. I am an SE. I dont sit and wait for work I come back in when it is
there so I never had to deal with Amherst when there was no work because I just stopped working and did other things. My feeling is if this doesnt work there are other jobs out there.
Wrong. Companies chose to or not to offshore work, nobody makes them. sm
My company does not offshore work, absolutely will not. We've actually gained/kept accounts assuring clients that we do not. We have many clients, cutting edge technology for both customer and employee, a healthy growth rate and a high MT retention rate. It's not impossible to have a successful USA-only based company. Sadly that may not be the norm anymore, but it's a choice MTSO/CEOs (whatever they may be) make and in my opinion maybe cutting some of the bottom line and offshoring is being done in place of producing a high quality of work that keeps a customer happy and not looking around for other service options. Subsequently I think these companies then suffer inferior work further because they are paying less and/or maybe have contractural obligations. Personally I'd like to think they'd still prefer high quality to low prices and inferior product. I have to wonder if these offshore companies are losing just as many accounts because of their product. I just know I am glad I work for a company who doesn't outsource, doesn't plan to, and has every intention to remain successful because quality does count.
You're wrong. You are not required to work one weedend day a week.

I have not posted anything wrong. It is common knowledge that Keystrokes does not send work offshor
Now I know why so many people do not like these boards. I did not write anything bad or over the top. I simply stated facts. I agree with the others and will now observe but not post. This is craziness here. If someone asks a question, I guess they would rather have answers from those that do not know the real answers. Call the company if you have questions from this point out. The phone number and web site are not secret.
You are wrong! Here is the ad. I got it too. There are no words spelled wrong and the caps are pa
This is pasted from the bottom of the email blast.

Why are you trying to stir up trouble? Keystrokes does not send ANYTHING offshore.

Here is the email blast from ILHIMA. The KS logo is at the top but does not paste here:

Thanks! I'm glad to hear that, I didn't think anyone used it anymore! I'm glad to hear so
I'll definitely check them out!
Oh, well, then please don't wait around for it. I
wouldn't want you to be disappointed.

Gosh.
But wait and see. :)

I had work the first 2 full weeks I was there.. afterwards I was bombarded with hours and lines to make up.  i.e., 11-15 hours every single week with a paycheck that never topped $200 except for my first one because they pay $200 to train. They always wanted everyone available every hour of every day. At least my TM is.  You need to come back after you are there for a while and let me know how it is REALLY going for you.

Only excuse I ever got was the doctors are on vacation thats why no one has work... umm I had like over 50 when I stopped counting in my work pool.. so I highly doubt it.

I really do hope everything works out for you.

I was told we can never use our own computer.  Everyone has to use theirs.

wait, there's more

OH MY GOSH - thank you so much for posting this information.

I got an email from them telling me about a job and that I was preselected. Everything about the email was so professional, even the mention of sending them $11.95 to keep active with their staffing service, taking a typing test and sending the results, etc.

I got the email the evening before Thanksgiving and they needed a reply by the Friday after Thanksgiving because the job was supposed to start the next week. I got the feeling of
hurry so you don't miss this opportunity.
IT SOUNDED AND LOOKED SO GOOD - and I didn't have a lot of time to research this company - so I started with these forums and lo and behold here was my answer.

I sure appreciate that you took the time to input this information.

I fell for it the first time that they sent me something. I think it had to do with data entry but then they said that the positions have been filled. I find out that there was only like 2-4 positions that they had opened.

Talitha
Now wait. Don't tell me there are

what you type in, no matter what your Expander plays out.  For instance, if you type copdx and that comes out as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, you should get paid for all the characters/spaces in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, right?  Not just five letters for copdx.  I'm asking because of the post below.

Heck, if I worked for a company that wasn't paying me for stuff the I took the time to put in MY expander to make transcription faster and more profitable for ME, then I'd just throw my expander out and type everything the hard way.

Please tell me there is no company that cheats MTs like that!

wait!!!
If you are an IC, you get paid when the hospital pays the client = stop complaining and deal with it!
Is this the one where you wait (sm)
forever for the first pay?
Wait? What?
Wait... Medware was bought out by another company or they are merging with another company?

What shall happen to all of us MedWare employees? I love MedWare!!! It's the best one I've worked for yet. :)
wait until you have been there a while
to say you love them. I worked for them for a few years and got so tired of the bad platform and the fact they were always promising this and promising that...and it would be real soon...but after waiting 3 years none of this ever happened...so went to greener pastures. A lot of their platforms are not transcription friendly at all.

My 2 cents worth...I know a lot of people do like them and that is fine...for them anyway!
