THOSE THAN CAN DO, THOSE THAT CAN'T, TEACH..SM

So those that can't cut it in Court Reporting go into medical transcription because MT standards are lower, but where a $45-$50,000 salary is the norm?  Where we're treated wonderfully, we're expected to be glued to our seats during out shift while we're not paid for that time, where often no work exists during that time and we are expected to make up our line quotas (of course, we owe these lines to the company on a pre-existing basis) on our own time later? Wonderful!  I could go on and on, but you probably wouldn't get it if you tried.

I don't know what field you're in besides teaching, but it's not medical transcription.

You are no longer in school, and the company isn't here to teach you.
I recruited for a large national and every once in a while an MT would bomb a test horribly and would challenge me about it. I was more than happy to send them the completely marked up copy, red-lined to death. One very experienced fellow wrote back and explained it all by saying I don't have time to be careful on these tests. My time is worth more than that. Oooookay, fella! You betcha!
half of us probably had mothers who didn't teach us anything....
nm
Why don't you head up the team to teach QA to streamline...sm

the feedback they send back so that the MTs will make a note instead of ignoring it.  I understand it must be frustrating for you to have to correct the same mistakes over and over, but can you understand how frustrating it is for an MT to get 5 different feedback answers from 5 different QA people?  Being mean and nasty and saying the work should be offshored just cuts off your nose to spite your face, no work here for the MT, no QA for you.  I will agree with you on one thing, this job is a thankless job.  We as MTs will never be recognized for the hard work we do and the conditions we do it under, just get griped at by those who do not appreciate or understand what we do, nor will QA be thanked or appreciated by anyone except those MTs who know how bad a report has to be to sent to QA.  I'm curious, were you an MT before you started QA?

I transcribe FT and teach PT because I WANT to share my knowledge and experience with sm
others getting into this line of work. If you do not make $45,000 to $50,000 in transcription, you either are not very good or not very dedicated. It is easy and I do that in 6 hours a day with a 30-minute lunch.

Yep, 24 hrs for national, IC for 2 local clinics, also teach kickboxing and sales rep for a clothing
nm
Consider this. When I was in college in 1970 sm,
I was making $1.50 per page typing papers double-spaced!! That was the going rate then. It wasn't even transcription but typing off handwritten or typed copy.

If your college put MD on your certificate SM
would you be able to say you are a doctor?  AAMT owns the certified medical Transcriptionist designation and unless you take and pass that test you are not certified.
college degree?
Since when does a Transcriptionist have a college degree? It is not considered a college degree - it is a diploma or a certificate program.

I am very happy at present with my job as a MT. I do wish that I made more money than I did 16 years ago when I started, but I still make more than many college degree people. I am one of the people that spent the last year complaining about my income and you know what - in the last 3 months I sat down and took a good look at what I was doing and realized that a lot of my low income times were my own fault - how much time was I spending on this board, how much time was I spending walking to the laundry room, turning the TV, listening to the radio, fixing lunch for my family? I finally got me a timer and set it for an hour and work my hour instead of getting up and guess what? I consistently make $35-40 an hour - that is not cherry picking my reports, that is taking first in/first out as they come to me from the company I work for. I don't have a small clinic that I get the same doctors over and over, I work on a hospital account and have a lot of doctors and on top of that, I have only been on this job for 3 months so I am not used to these doctors by any means.

Anyway, I understand that we should have higher wages, I understand that we should be upset because our line rates are not going up and seem to be going down, but we cannot say that this profession is not a financially rewarding position if you are willing to work for it.

Where else can I go with a 1-year DIPLOMA and make $40 an hour? Then you add into the fact that yes, my power bill and internet bill is there for me to have to pay, but I am not putting gas in my car at $2.78 a gallon and driving 30 miles one way to an office, that I am not having to eat my lunch out every day, that I don't spend that extra 45 minutes to an hour driving each way every day that I don't get paid for - yes, I think we are still in a financially rewarding career!
OSI - State College, PA

Does anyone have any information about this company?  Do they have VR?  What is supervisor like?  What type of platform they use, etc.? Haven't heard much about them on this board but very curious to see if anyone has any info to offer.

I graduated from a community college, but

my first job was not at a National. I got a job at a hospital first, then after two years was hired by MQ. If you can get experience, I think it's easier to get on with Nationals. It is probably possible without experience, though. I would just give it a try.

I have when I graduated college, that gave it away as well!
Burned. LOL.
So right! Just because a job doesn't require a college
And if a job is worth doing well and being diligent about (which most jobs are), then they're worth paying the workers fairly for. The U.S. exploits farm workers, office workers, MTs, nurses, computer programmers, teachers, you-name-it. And they do so by not putting a cap on overpaid, do-nothing CEOs' salaries (as in.... banks and stock market, for starters!), and by rewarding companies for sending work offshore, instead of PENALIZING them financially for doing so. There should also be something done about all the work that has become IC and/or part-time work. All so they don't have to pay for insurance. Lots of highly educated computer techies now have part-time jobs and no insurance. There should be a way for IC's & part-timers to get insurance through their companies. The insurance industry needs an overhaul, as well, then maybe this would be possible. The fat-cats at the top get paid the big, over-inflated bucks because what they do (when they're not sitting around picking their noses) is they see how many insurance claims they can deny, including perfectly legitimate ones. I recently had a small claim for a medical procedure that was necessary, and I followed the ins. company's instructions to the letter. and did they pay one red cent? Nope. The industry is a fraud, and I'd love to see that one tank, just like the banks & stock market are doing right now. Then maybe something could be done about it. Meanwhile, those of us doing our respective jobs every day, and getting paid less and less, are taking pets to the pound we can no longer afford to feed, telling our kids we can only afford for them to go to a local junior college because there's no money for the real thing, watching savings accounts shrivel because we can no longer fund them, and keep siphoning off of them every few weeks to keep the bills paid, and watch any hope whatsoever of being able to live our older years with any kind of peace or security go right down the drain.

Greed sucks, and there's way too much of it in this country.
all the more reason to go to an accredited college or university
and earning potential rather than waste time and money on some fly-by-night crappola that has no credibility.
Yes my college degree is worth more than $11 an hour.
..
I have an A.A. degree in English from a 'real' college that
Sounds like AHDI ('All Hindi-speaking Dufuses International') is just trying to find another way to lure MTs into wasting their money on their ridiculous 'credential'.

And if they did elevate the credential to the equivalent of a degree, then they'd have to also acknowledge that MTs be PAID as 'professionals', as well.

I laugh every time I read something that group generates - it gets more ridiculous every year, doesn't it?
Kind of like an education at liberal arts college...
is it necessary that I know Henry Moore is a sculptor in order to get my Bachelor's degree in Science? No...just makes me a more well-rounded individual (and NO, not my shape!). Hahaha
I'm back in college part-time after 24+ years
I figured this is the only to get my foot to the right job. My daughter will be 11 soon and by the time I finish my school that I did not finish after 24+ years, I could definitely be making 2 or 3 times more money than 7 cents per line. I can work at my local Starbucks part-time making $10.00 an hour with excellent benefits!!!
Just wondering...
I've heard great things about Amphion with the single exception being somewhat lower pay than usual - is that true? Still, it sounds like a great company - expect a mass migration of MQ'ers second only to Hurricane Katrina!
wondering .....again
Do you like the dictator's?
Wondering about this

Heard from a friend that company deducts a quarter or something like that from each report for the header or template or something?  Anyone know anything about that?  Is it for all their accounts?  Got me inquisitive....Thanks......

Just wondering......
Do you get many discharge summaries? Their site says they offer automated DS. The doc doesn't have to dictate and we don't have to transcribe. So one less report type for us lucky folks.
wondering
what kind of platform is it and what companyt? i work for one that we have to fight for work also. looking for a PT job myself.
Just wondering.....
How do you guys know all this stuff? I have worked there for about 1-1/2 years, and don't know anything about what accounts they have other than the one I am on, how they are seeking or not seeking new accounts, or anything about the general atmosphere of the company. All in all, I really don't know anything about them other than I work, send my invoice and then get paid.

Please understand that I am not questioning anything you say, just wondering why everyone else knows all this stuff and I am completely in the dark.
Wondering also

I was thinking of applying to this company and saw where you only worked a month.  What made you quit?  Trust me, I'm not going to tell anyone; I'm not that type of person even if you don't know me.

But I really don't like the company I'm working for as I still can't get 1000 lines a day and don't think I'll ever be able to as you spend half your time looking up names of doctors, usually foreign doctors, that the dictator wants to send a cc to.  They want five or six cc's sent, and you HAVE to make sure you get the right doctor, etc.  But it is VERY time consuming even though I have a hard copy also as a lot of the times, I cannot even understand the name they are dictating to send a cc to.

So I am in the looking mode again.  Plus I wasn't able to use Smartype which I love, and their word Expander has NO words in it.  You have to start from scratch, so it's going to take me forever to build up a list of word expanders.  This issue is ALSO time consuming. It just seems like I saw something the other day about WebMedx and thought it sounded like a good company, but I'm sure there is a but with it ........there's always something about a company I don't like.  Wish I could find the perfect company.

I was also wondering...
I am testing with them also and was wondering if anyone had heard about them.... any info would be appreciated.
wondering

If someone is working as an IC, how can they be required to do X number of lines or work X number of hours when they're not getting any benefits, using their own equipment and/or paying their own phone bill?    I think I know the answer but just wanted another opinion.

Wondering
I do my training with them on Friday. I asked for a bit of information on the benefits and am slightly confused. Are the benefits extremely expensive?
Wondering the same

Most important to me would be line rate, flexibility in schedule (window), benefits, quickest platform and work volume.

TIA.

I'm wondering
Agreement says they don't have to pay you if work is considered unacceptable - What is unacceptable? A blank? Errors?
and wondering
so, you think they are trying to mislead by putting -Offshore services and their affiliates need not apply for the below given job ad - above their job bank ad?
PDA - thank you, that's what I was wondering. nm
nm
I'm wondering if it is (sm)

Wondering Same
I was wondering the same thing. I sent in my resume, but I couldn't find anything on them on the internet at all.
I'm new to MDI and I'm wondering if you
could tell me what LD you use (if you do an account requiring unlimited LD). I'm not able to get a good enough deal through our local company because they specify voice only calls and it would be $$ for a business use account. Right now I'm just using phone cards, but that could add up fast. Thanks for any help!
Wondering about . . .

A to Z Transcription.  Mostly wondering if they pay on time or if anyone has had a particularly bad experience with them.

Thanks all!

I am wondering about your
rather odd comment of
How can you live with yourself knowing that you were stealing from a company by not even doing the job you were paid to do?

How is not doing the job stealing? Quite honestly, that is the stupidest comment I have ever heard.

Not doing the job may mean you are unreliable or lazy, but certainly not a thief.

Wondering what you all would do
I have a situation where I was told that dial up would work with present company; however, it turns out that it is not working well at all and I am losing money over said situation. I know there are some companies out there that do not mind dial up. I know MQ and Spheris are 2 of them; however, not sure exactly what to do. Sit and wait on current company or move on? Any happy MQers or Spheris MTs out there? Anyone with another company that lets MTs use dial up or am I the only MT with dial up? LOL!
Was wondering, too.
I've been kind of interested in how much a supervisor would make. I had thought something over 50K, too. I should make close to 40K this year as an MT, and haven't really been at it very long. I'm wondering what options (if any) there are for people in this business who want to make more money. If you can't make more as a supervisor, then where can you go other than increasing your production rate?
wondering

I've also been considering TransTech.  Do Transtech employees run out of work often?  Do you have a back up account?  Do you jump from account to account?  Thank you

Wondering
I think people ask for opinions here because they don't always trust the companies to give them the full story, along with the fact that this job is very isolating and sometimes it is nice to know if other MTs are having the same issues. What is the purpose of this board, if it is not to network with other MTs?
wondering sm
I also wonder if some don't come on here just to plug their own company. What's to stop them? Don't fall for it! I am a doubting Thomasina.
Wondering?
If the government takes care of their employees so well, and everyone is satisfied, where did the term Going Postal come from?
i was wondering also..
Did you get any other information on this company?
I was wondering...

Were you asking about FutureNet the other day?  Was just wondering how that was going, etc. and if you accepted a position there.  I was thinking about applying.  tia

ok was wondering....
so many people have been led in the wrong direction as evidence by emails I have gotten. I for one don't want to mislead anyone. I have stated my opinion on the company; so far so good. I would like for others to have a place to go to work where they can make money and they are dealing honestly. So many companies have been bragged about on this board, and then found out that this was not the case. You have a great one too:)
wondering
Couldn't they simply send an email to anyone who posts on the boards?
Okay thanks. That is what I was wondering.
I was hoping it would come quickly and I didnt spend a lot of time logging into everything just to get to the report. I guess it's like when you get those manuals to put things together. It seems really complicated, but once you just do it, it is definitely easier than trying to follow all of those instructions. I just opened that manual and thought NO FLIPPING WAY AM I GOING TO LEARN ALL THIS AND BE PRODUCTIVE TOO. LOL.. Thanks for the positive.
Wondering
Received one. SS said the 2nd and 3rd weeks checks should be received Tues. or Wed. They're kind of slow delivering pay. Did you finish all of the files?
Thats exactly what I was wondering about. NM

just wondering -
By what I see, TT seems to run a a lot of ads compared to several companies that I rarely see on here.
