I thought I had read in their material
before they took it off their website that they don't pay the MT until they get paid from their client. No way would I work for that type of pay plan.

I received the test material and the information (sm)
If they offered employee status, I would be glad to test for them, but not IC status for $14 per hr.
She sounds like future SUIT material, to me.

Well, goodie for you, Flo! I'd be happy if I was Dairy Queen drive-through material
job for which I'm no way qualified to be in too.

Congratulations! Glad you're happy!
Back-stab, manipulate - YES ! Dairy Queen material - NO !

Platform a bit slow, loads of material to know on each acct, they overhired
for the acct they put me on, so I sit and wait for work to roll in. They gave me a secondary acct, but again I wait. I think some are happy there, I might be if they didn't overhire and they beefed up their platform to move a little quicker.
Was not impressed
I was offered a position with them but turned it down. I had 3 different people contact me from them.  I had at first accepted the position and they told me the packet was mailed out that I would need before starting.  I never did receive the packet and it all seemed very disorganized.  I felt like if they couldn't even get the packet to me, what would happen with my check?
I was not impressed
The recruiter was strange. She didn't appear to know how to hold a phone interview. There were a lot of blank pauses in our conversation. Even though I have 20+ years of experience, she decided not to hire me because I made the mistake of telling her I was keeping a small part-time on the side transcription job I have had for 14 years. Also, the pay was not great. I would not recommend them.
Wow I'm impressed!
5.5 is really good for VR. Most companies only want to pay 3-4, although TT pays 4.5. Who do you work for? Just curious.
I am so impressed with your skills
not- you sound like you are the only 1 who does well on VR, making you faster and better than most so you say. Did you break your arm patting yourself on your back?
I am very impressed with the job posting for the
non-medical Transcriptionist on the job seeker's board.  While the pay is very low, at least this person is up front in what they are looking for, seems to be honest and even offers to go that extra mile by allowing you to chat with one of their other ICs.  Wish other MTSOs were this *transparent.*
I am so impressed. What a refreshing change. Thank you!

You're welcome. I'm truly impressed with this company sm

and I think you'd be very happy should you decide to take a position with them.  It has been a long time since I have encountered such caring people as an employer.

And thanks for the compliment on my baby.  Maltese doggies are cute too.  (And no, this isn't the right board for such things but what the heck.)

Good luck!

I've mentioned before that I was impressed
I made it partially through training and my Mom passed away; so I had to postpone.  Once I went back a few weeks later, unfortunately, the schedule was not the same, but I do not hold that against Transcend.  The recruiter was very understanding and they wanted to give me another chance, but it was due to the workflow.  I would HIGHLY recommend Transcend.  They are the only ones I have dealt with as far as nationals go that were very communicative and very, very understanding.  There will always be bumps, but if you have the big tires the bumps don't hurt as much!  HAHA!  Anyway, nice people, nice place!
I am blown away and impressed at the responses from the MDI MTs. sm
I don't think Transcend was expecting all this anger.  The company I was working for also was bought by Transcend and with the last two company purchases we basically believed the lies and comforting words and just went along.  I have seen several managers leave after telling me it would get better.  I am sure they are wondering what all this is since they did not get this kind of flack before you all.  WAY TO GO!!  I am so sorry you have to go through this though.
Was going to work for them, but was NOT impressed with their lack of professionalism!!
x
WHy should I care if you are impressed or not. It it suits me, I don't give a darn if anyone
+
Yeah, I talked to them about a month ago and wasn't too impressed. sm
They told me pretty much the same thing, 2nd and 3rd shifts only.  I said no thanks.  Didn't sound like the kind of company I wanted to work for.  They sounded an awful lot like MQ which sent chills down my spine.
Nope.. never heard a word, which is fine by me. I'm never impressed when they never even contact
you hear how rude and unprofessional they are. Normally, I would not give any credibility to hear-say but all of this has to make me wonder. No skin off my nose. I tested with other companies and got called back within 24 hours.. Now, that is how a company should handle it..
If your impressed by bad communication and erractic work flow then it's the place for you..
I know a lot of people who have been there longer than a few weeks that have a lot better insight on MDI-FL and it's not a great review.  Yes, the people are nice but is about it.. Nice unfortunately does not pay the bills or stop you from being frustrated because no one answers your emails, well I should say, in a timely manner, and if it is a money-related question like raises etc.. FORGET IT.. you will NOT be getting an email back on that one but you do get one telling you that you need to train on another system, which requires a C-phone, and one in which you had no desire to be placed on, or you lose your benefits. When people sign up to do accounts that are internet-based, it is for a reason. C-phones are a pain in the you-know-what..and then you find out that the account you were hired for is dried up most days, then you are told that you need to do another account that requires the C-phone or you will lose benefits. Thanks but no thanks..getting old.. but truly best of luck to you in whatever you decide.
Reference regarding

business practices -- I was not referring to one company specifically.  From reading the board, there are messages regarding existing insurance coverage suddenly being unavailable.  Others have posted regarding to unpaid training time, which I believe under employee status is unlawful.  If the shoe fits.  One cannot sign away one's legal rights, no matter what kind of wording they put in a contract.  I would say dropping existing insurance coverage and then stringing people along regardig that amounts to fraud.

Has anybody ever requested a copy of a work reference?  I would just like to know if I can get a copy of mine.  Thanks.

Amazing that someone wants to pay that well -
As well some of them should! I talked with several MTSO ladies recently, and they told me their contract with the hospitals and clinics they did was for from between 20-24 cents per 65-character count line. These were at different places around the country. Seems like a lot of profit to me?
its amazing to me why some MTs sm
think that THEY are the only ones who are owed a response from a recruiter. To me if a recruiter doesn't answer, they don't want you, move on! For whatever reason. I have almost 30 years experience, not every place I have applied to answers and I don't expect them to.

I do have concerns about MTs who say they have worked for many companies blah, blah, blah. Why are they working for many companies anyway? Sounds like job hopping to me and there is a lot of that in this business. Some MTs think that if one thing doesn't go their way, move on to the next company. Personally, I will not hire a job hopper no matter how good they are! It is not worth it. I will wait it out for someone with experience who has a stable work record.

Recruiter, just do what you need to do and ignore all of this nonsense. Obviously there are some egos that need to be stroked and MTs who can't stand it if that does not happen.

Now if it is a matter of scheduling an interview or start date and then not showing up by a recruiter or trainer that is a different story but that was not the question to begin with.

I have worked for two different companies in almost 30 years and one of the companies I just started. I don't feel anybody owes me anything I can exist on my own skills and if I send a resume with no answer I ignore it and go on. I can only say I had that happen one time and the rumor was the company had no work at the time. They did me a favor.

Ignore the idiots, you owe nothing to anyone!
Amazing
I only graduated 4 months ago and have been working for a national since then. My QA is at 99.4-100% consistently. I do acute care all day long. It seems that some of these schools need to sit up and take notice if they are turning out such poor quality MTs. I went to Community College to get my MT education.
Amazing
I quit working there almost 6 months ago because I had a feeling that this type of thing would be coming when SPI took over Cymed. All of the changes that were going on just did not seem right at all. Now I'm REALLY glad that I left when I did! Unbelievable.
Amazing!
Just had to follow up on this because, 2 years later, the US MTs still have tons of work to do and there are several hundred US MTs employed at Spheris. Considering that all the work was being sent to India and US MTs were being forced to quit or being laid off...wonder how this is possible?! This just goes to show you that some people overreact and get their undies in a wad over silly things and blow things way out of proportion. If everyone would just calm down and think rationally, sometimes they wouldn't end up making stupid choices.
Not amazing
It's the difference in gross lines and pages versus 65 cpl pay.  Thank AAMT or whatever they call themselves now.  Going to paint gourds.
Wow. Amazing. You are still trying your best
spinning it around and around in circles in an attempt to make it into something that supports your own false premises? Why do you keep repeating yourself on this and instead address some of her replies and the points she raised like why she stayed or the fact that you are the only one here who has hallucinated blame, misery and loss or your repeated pleas for someone, anyone to help you make sense of it all?

While you are at it, I would be interested to hear your answer to the the notions of pride, being part of the medical community, patient care or maybe one of the most important things you continue to avoid, which is the right for her or any of us to have a different definition of success and/or failure.

I have a question of my own for you. Just where in the devil do you get off being so outraged and condescending toward an MT who told a simple story and expressed an opinion about TTD? What in the world is it about that OP that has gotten you all worked up into such a lather? It's really not a pretty sight.
VR amazing on this end also
The time I started it was exactly the same way and yesterday mine was extremely good, picking up I would say at least 98-99% of all said. By the way, were you working for a company, hospital or just what. I know our place has been on for years now and am thinking some EMR is different from another kind.
May I just say..500 lph...is amazing! sm
That is absolutely wonderful, and although I do not work for MDI, I do know that the VR there is relatively new....for you to be achieving 500 lph is blowing me out of my chair right now. Congratulations (even though I am a tad jealous since I can only achieve approximately 300, and I have been doing it since last winter)! Keep up the good work...and share your tricks!
Reference Books?
How much are you asking and what do you have? I need a cardiology ref book for sure! Also in need of ophthalmology ref book. Please let me know. Thanks!
Good reference here
You're absolutely right, this board is a good place not only to vent, but to get the scoop on the companies out there. Sure some people are just going to be venting on here cause they got fired or couldn't make it but if you weed through those you can pretty much get the idea on others. This is a great resource.
Reference Books
I am starting with Trans Tech the first part of September.  I used to do transcription in a hospital, but have been out of it for a few years.  I have never worked at home before.  What kind of reference materials do most of you have at your desk?  Do you have mostly books, or online references?
For future reference...
I have found in my years that most places are far less concerned with format than content, in the belief that format could be individual based on client needs and any formatting errors could be quickly corrected in your first few days under the watchful eye of QC. That said, as a QC myself, I see many more errors related to content than I do of format once an MT has hit about a month on any account.

Good luck with your job search.
Probably just a reference to a generic
red-dot-head. Could be Shavinder, Rajah, Bopinder, Rajinder, they all seem to be 'inders'.
Well for future reference....
I would have the line counting program in place BEFORE I even gave my start date or whatever.  Of course, if you were having so many personal or family issues that you couldn't even send an invoice, then you can't be outraged that you got cheated out of lines.  Companies have certain deadlines as well and they aren't able to wait around and figure out how to get your programs up and running.  I'm not sure what kind of company you worked for, but if it were ME, and of course it isn't, but I would have INITIALLY in the BEGINNING told them I was having an issue with a line counting software and ask what they SUGGEST I use that may be in comparison to what their other MTs use.  IF they were rude, as you suggested, then I would have just not started working for them.  But, to work, not able to count lines, not able to send an invoice in, the whole mess seems very disorganized, so you shouldn't be shocked that you didn't get paid.  LESSON LEARNED.
YES! It's amazing what you can find out there.
Some counties used to post bankruptcy records.  Most states have databases where you can search marriage and divorce records online; property records including title, taxes, value of home, and square footage of the dwelling; criminal records even for nonviolent offenders; obituaries; social security death index; professional licenses; assumed business name records; business licenses.  It's amazing that all that information is just out there to be seen.  I snooped on myself and there's quite a bit out there.  Scary.  That's not even to mention people's autopsy reports and police records that have been posted.  The general public does not need access to all that information.
Amazing. You are training ASR, and they cut your pay. nm.
nm.
It's amazing how you criticize MTs

for wanting *money in the bank*, and yet, you want the exact same thing for yourself.  As for the starving foreign MTs, I guess we must not have any starving Americans.  Your post makes me sick and my skin crawl.  You may not be losing any sleep now, but when the tide turns on you (and believe me it will) someday, don't expect any sympathy from your fellow Americans.

It's pathetic MTSOs like yours that's making this country what it is.  It was your greed and others like you that caused the many problems this field has.

Pretty Amazing
I'm amazed at the lack of professionalism.  In looking back at past posting, this is not the first time management at SS had attacked posters on this board.  Like I said previously, this guy has sent me two very, very nasty emails, in addition to what he's posted here.  According to him, everything is wonderful at SS and every MT who says they had a bad experience are hallucinating.  Unbelievable!
It's amazing how much we do for free
these days, isn't it. In the old days, we were paid for EVERYTHING, templates, headers, footers, demos, etc... and even better with gross lines. Sigh :(
These posts are amazing
The word *need* was never used, the word *gimme, gimme* was never used.

It's a conversation about MT week because we are MTs.

Unbelievable. Must be fun to be around these naysayers.
wow, amazing and impressive!...nm

My post was in reference to Transcend....sm
Know nothing about Cymed, so I'll take your word for it, but am *quite* happy at Transcend. You should try it!
Not complaining, just asking for reference. Only out a few minutes (sm)
and it was early early Sunday morning, not during her normal work hours.

BTW, can you call solution center for help with this during weekends/off hours?
Reference check question?

I accepted a position about 2 weeks ago at a company that apparently hire people before checking their references.  My references that I listed are calling me stating that they are just receiving reference calls today.  Is this the standard practice of getting hired.  I was hired two weeks ago.  How come they did not check my reference then!   I just think this is backwards, but I have good references anyway.

This makes me worried about this company because so many MTs on this board have negative things to say about this company.  I hope this is not the beginning of bad things to come with this company.

Oops. I mean to reference the low pay to TTD specifically... NM

Google vs Reference Books

I admit the Internet is faster and easier, but if you put in the wrong spelling when looking up a word on the Internet, a lot of times you can find it spelled that way.  I've had it happen.  I agree with this poster.  There's too much room for error when you just Google a word and don't know the meaning or how to spell it.  I do use it frequently for drugs, especially new ones.  I just make sure to find the drug company's website or the official website for the policy.  I've seen surgical equipment come up spelled totally wrong, like it sounds, nothing close to the correct spelling.

Another thing, I worked in an office last summer doing editing with a couple newbie MTs.  One girl thought she was the computer/Internet whiz.  She was working on clinic note tapes.  One day the Internet went down. OMG!! You would have thought the end of the world had arrived.  She was lost, frustrated, and on the verge of tears.  Now there was a complete set of Stedman Word Books, as well as Dorlands and 2008 drug books in the office, but she didn't even know what books to look in.  So another good argument for reference books.  Get the knowledge, don't just depend on the Internet.
