Yes, it's true. The CEO and President and everyone who works in the office all came from L&H.

In Reply to: I heard one time that the CEOs came from - TransTechMT

Also many of their QA staff and MTs.

It's true........friend works there....sm
been there for a long time and she got a pay cut and I think she was in QA
that is true about the bonus money, all works out in the end, I suppose. nm
,k
True, but if you worked in an office you could still do all those things
and get paid a decent hourly wage for 8 hours ;) See? I am shocked by many recent posts of MTs stating they type 150 or 175 lph, and at what, 8 or 9 cpl? That's like $12-16 an hour when years ago many of us made $25-30 an hour on average. I am fortunate to still be paid that well but I know it's not the norm. I just don't understand when or why this became acceptable, and just because you can work at home??? and/or can you actually live on those wages in some states???
That is wonderful news. I hope the changes stick and the new office manager is a true asset to the
owner.  She is a lovely woman and I wish her much success.  I just might check them out again.  Thanks for the information.
The new guy is the president and the COO (not CEO). Who was sm
the prior COO?
So, who is the new president now?
nm
VR couldn't take us down, but now the president is going to.

I wish I wouldn't have came on here today, now I have one more thing to worry about in this time of woes with the economy.  This really sucks.

Voice recognition couldn't take over, we may have lost a few jobs, but now the president is going to dictate how the transcription gets done.  He is the only one who will be left with a job, or should I say jobs.  He is the jack of all trades now.  Cars, banks, now transcription!

I really feel bad for the millions of women, yes women as this is mainly a women oriented business.  I have only met about 3 males who actually did transcribing in the past 25 years of this career.  So this is also a discrimination against women, the many women that were able to make better than minimum wage and stay home with their kids during their early years will now have to go find who knows what, the one only opening at Walmart to try to support her family.

This just makes me sick.  Why do we need to have a shortened medical record made by templates just because the president thinks it will be better.

I can only say I hope he legalizes prostitution before he gets rid of transcription.  Because this may be the only option left, (only joking, hope it doesn't come to this point).

Yeah this free insurance sounds real great.  At least while we are sitting at home wondering what to do we can try to break a leg or an arm just to get into that wonderful hospital setting where we can have room and board and 3 squares a day.

We should all start a petition or write to the white house, calling this discrimination, that's the only thing that gets attention in this country.  Discrimination against this mainly women oriented industry and their children.

I can only pray that this doesn't happen.  God bless us all who do this grueling job.

OK, maybe I'll run for president

Thanks for your suggestions.  All women on the verge of turning 50 are delighted at the prospect of changing careers - and so are the employers to hire them.

I haven't been in this profession very long - less than 10 years.  So I DO have other work experience.  Competing with girls half my age in the current job market is such a thrilling prospect, I'll get right on it.  My skills with addressographs, mimeograph machines, hand-kept books, selectric typewriters, etc. are in SUCH demand I know I'll blow past those whippersnappers like a blazing comet!  After all, I've forgotten more software programs than they know, because I was all about computers before they were cool!

Email was from the president/CEO, dated 6/19. nm

Email for Proveros President

At least the president of the company must have some class.  This is an email I just received from him:

Hi Marla -

Your numbers are correct. I am so sorry!! I am sending you another check today via FedEx for the full $67.58.  Please keep the first check for $39.00 in return for your frustration and time.

I will have the second tracking number sent as well.

Thanks for all your time and again our sincerest apologies.

Steve

What do you mean the president is going to dictate how transcription gets done?
I don't think the President has any feelings whatsoever in how transcription gets done. His idea is to go to EMR - that has nothing to do with not having transcription - that has to do with the way the transcription is stored - electronically, not paper.

I worked for a hospital that has had EMR for years now and believe me, we had more transcription waiting on us every day than we could possibly do.
Clinton also left this president a SURPLUS
Because now he has created the LARGEST DEFICIT IN THE HISTORY OF THIS COUNTRY. By the time he's done, there will be no US - we'll be a satellite branch of China or Japan.
I got the same email from the president of AAMT today but like
you say, a day late, a dollar short. I think they would best serve themselves by staying away from the Heartland employees. I personally do not know how they can hold their heads up with what has happened to our industry. I believe in global economy, but what they did was wash us right out of it.
Like becoming President? I don't follow your line of thinking.

I know that payday is on the 15th, but since the 16th is President's Day, sm

do you think we will be paid on Friday like we were last payday?  This is only my 2nd payday, so I was just curious.  If I have to wait until the 17th, then so be it.  I don't want to be lectured by those I have seen about people expecting to be pair early.  As I said, it happened before, and I just wondered.  Since it is getting late and I have not yet received an email with my paycheck stub, it is looking like probably not.

Thanks!

I'm just curious -- where do you bank that is open on President's Day? sm

I mean no harm -- I am just truly curious.   I just moved to the Denver area from Kansas, and there is a chain of banks here that is open on Sunday, which was a surprise to me just with that.  I didn't know that there were banks that were open on holidays too -- that would be great!  Well, sorta great ... I'd get my deposits anytime, but then again my checks would come bouncing an anytime too ... oops!  LOL

I haven't worked at Keystrokes very long, but they have been fair with me.  I am disappointed that I have to wait until Tuesday to be paid, but it certainly is not a deal breaker.  I have a part-time job as wlel.  But I have certainly been in those situations where a day or two was critical, so I emphathize to those who truly NEED to be paid as soon as possible.

Anyway, again, I meant no harm by my post.  I just am truly curious about banks that are open on holidays.

I wrote AAMT, the President, and my senators tonight...sm
I'm also going to write my local paper and contact some news organizations.
The main office was in Bolingbrook but they built an office in Yorkville last fall. SM
I think that the owners live in Yorkville, so it was built close to their house. Nice office, just pretty far out.
Just curious, is the MQ Nashville office the old Lanier office? nm
nm
I don't work in the office and never claimed to. I am just saying that since the new office open
October with everyone of the admin staff in one place, these problems do not occur any more.
Can't get paid in the office if you don't work in the office.
JLG has MT's working at home, not in the office, not to mention working out of state.  The mail is the only way to get paid since they have temporarily suspended direct deposit.  The only ones getting paid on time are the ones that do work in the office, like the management and people answering the phone.
Closed FW office, Indianapolis office too. nm

The platform is Word. Their program works with Word but does not change how Word works. nm
The benefits just changed the first part of this month. I don't have them but I remember them being reasonabl for a single person. Family and spouse was not reasonable in any way (in my opinion).
Glad that's true for you for 8 years. Not true for many. I love the company, but I do run out of
as do many others. Wish I were as fortunate as you.
Not necessarily true. That is not a true test of skill.
Do you know how many people get others to take tests for them? It happens and it happens more often than you might think. The only skill that shows anyway is that you can do it.

We are actually more than a transcriptionist. We are specialists in our field and we are supposed to know some things regarding anatomy and physiology as a working base. That's how we can judge if a physician dictates something in accurately and many do because they can't pronounce or just are not thinking. That's why our skills of basic knowledge come into play and that means basic knowledge of body parts. If our job was just to sit there and type without thinking about what we are transcribing, then all patients are in trouble and this is just based on what I see as a QA person.

It's more than just knowing how to transcribe and some of the companies have discovered how to know what your basic knowledge is based on what you have picked up with your experience by utilizing your references etc. Hopefully that utilization of your references has taught you something that does stick in your head.

Beliefs like yours are just so far off base. You have to know what you are doing. It's not just about being able to listen and type. Base knowledge is a very important thing and the services have to find a way to know that knowledge base that is there in your head.

This may be true... and that is philisophically true, but
and pay bills while being screwed? This is what I think the OP is scared of... I certainly agree and honestly think it is unfair to put people in this precarious position... on one hand be grateful you still have your job, or a job, and on the other, immediately there will possibly be a cut in pay, for which you may have to give up your home, or medicine or reduce your budget for food. I don't know if I am the only one, but I think the OP still has a good head on her shoulders and that may be the problem...at least for employers out there who are switching to VR.. and their employees
Probably someone who works on...sm
a variety of (or all) accounts and interchanges regularly to help with backlog.  I previously worked for a company and they called it something else but basically the job description was someone who could work on any account at any given time and worked on accounts as needed (no specific primary/secondary, etc.).  The place were I worked paid these MTs a higher rate.
yep, works well. nm

Here is how it works
Review resumes as they come in. Separate into two piles. Immediately respond to all unqualified MTs with a simple email. Even if it is 100, it will take about an hour - no need to respond to follow ups to those, if any. Next, reply to qualified MTs with a simple email telling them resume was received and the next step and to email you when that step is completed. This may take a couple of days, tops! Everybody deserves a response, even those not qualified. It is called professional courtesy. Please. All recruiters do is recruit. It's not that difficult!
I know someone who works for them
From what I understand she is very happy there. If you have the experience, you probably can ask for 9 or 10 per line. They will negotiate with you. They are a growing company, management is nice and helpful, but a little slow getting everything off the ground, it took a bit of patience on her part to actually be up and working. They do outsource but never has run out of work.
What works for me is this:
1. I tell people who know I work from home that I am not to be disturbed unless someone dies or the house catches on fire, NO exceptions, NONE.
2. I screen every call and NEVER answer the phone until I am finished for the day. I also pick up any messages at that time. If the school needs to call you, can they call on another line? If you answer the phone every time it rings or even listen to the messages you will never get any typing done, trust me. :-) I have found VERY few phone calls are true emergencies.
3. Explain as best you can that you are paid on production and when your fanny is not in your chair you are making nothing at all, so you can you borrow some money when your bills come due?

The bottom line is that if you do not treat this as a *real* job then no one will respect your wishes. If you had a job outside of the home and were on the phone all day long or had people dropping by to visit all day I sure bet you would be fired! It really is tough to put your foot down, but you can do it!!!
Who works for TTS currently?

I have been offered a VR editing job with TTS and would like to here from people who currently work for them.  Yes, I did see the postings further down on the board about TTS and that is why I want to hear from current TTS VR editors.

What I want to know is how many lines do you get a day and many of those lines are actually VR lines and not typing lines?    Also, how many lines do TTS require their MTs to have a day?  Do you use a 9-pin foot pedal with the sticker on the bottom that reads IN-DB9?  Do you have dial up internet connections?   Lastly, do you feel that you are making more money with VR editing and saving your hands/wrists/arms too?

Thanks

Anyone who works for
TransTech - Will we get paid before or after the holiday, since our pay date is 5/28?
I know someone who works there....
and she is NOT very happy. She is definitely looking elsewhere. They must be pretty hard up for MTs since I keep getting a recruiting postcard from them in the mail almost every month!
They will - it's in the works
nm
no, that's not how it works.
x
MS Works
Your company should provide you with technical support to help you. ...Good luck!
NO one works there
Indian based company and have no clue when called office as it just rings and seems no one works in US at all. And even if work I hear they dont have good Management at all
works well for me.nm
nm
you must be one of the MTs that works
instead of running out here to post.
That works, too.
x
They may have something in the works, but right now there

isn't enough work.  They have lost several people recently due to the lack of work and still there isn't enough work. I like the company, so I'm not bashing them, but if there is a lot of work it isn't showing in our updates we get 3 times a day and I'm running out of work every day.  If we're on 15 minutes past our shift we are asked to get off, doesn't matter if we haven't been able to get our lines.

There is one account that is particularly difficult and I think that has caused some people to leave, but even that account is running out of work on a daily basis.

Is that how it works?
Name the pay you want and you shall have it? Clients will pay whatever they can get away with paying. What MTSO in their right mind would to to their clients and say By the way, we plan to charge a whole lot more than the other MTSOs because our MTs demand higher pay. Don't you think the client would just go elsewhere?
Um, no, this isn't how it works. (sm)
Webmedx wouldn't have a great reputation if this were the norm. Obviously, this person isn't telling you the whole story.
How the pay works out to be the same

They do fool some people with that.  When the company I worked for went to NO SPACES or VBC, everyone's pay was raised by 2 cent.  I have no clue why they would do this unless the client said they did not want to pay for spaces when their rates were increased.  It was no big deal to us because it honestly worked out to be the exact same pay with the 2 cent increase.  Now if the company says they are going VBC and you do not get an increase.......that's a big fat cut in pay.

I guess that is why some companies think offering 10-12 cpl is very attractive, but it is for VBC, which is really only 8-10 cpl for the MT.  If they say 10-12 cpl with spaces, that is what is really attractive.

of course it works.
nm
How it works

The MTSO is hungry for accounts. They low ball the client and then advertise like crazy to find those MTs gullible or desperate enough to take on the low pay. They usually do find some but the ones with any self respect who can offer quality and quantity won't work for such low wages. Hence the rub.

Hey, if that works for you

But scheduling is one element of control a company forfeits in order to avoid paying benefits, contributing to Social Security, handling tax withholding, etc.  Companies that want to have it both ways, avoid all the responsibilities of an employer, but have the sceduling control of an employer, are dishonest.  And I think this is indicative of other areas in which the company may not be fair with you.  (At least, that's been my experience.)

It's your choice whether to go along with it.  If you are happy, great.  Those of us who might choose to make an issue of it realize we do this at the risk of losing work.  And as long as there are MTs who choose to go along with this policy, there will always be plenty of you to replace us with.

Yes, it works out to be more than 65 cpl, usually. SM
FYI though, this also depends on margins and font size. Font size and margins aren't a factor in 65-chars line but they make a difference in gross line counting. If the margins are set at 1 inch all around and font size is 12, 6 c gross line would be around 8 or 9 c 65-chars line. At least that was my experience in the past when paid on gross line, in the good old days.
You do what works for you.

and this OP should do what works for her.

No. The way my IC job works is that I
tell them when I can work and how much work minute-wise I can take. They assign it to me in the late afternoon (I work FT for another MTSO and work nights for them) and I have until 6 a.m. the next morning to get it in.
