True, but if you worked in an office you could still do all those things

and get paid a decent hourly wage for 8 hours ;) See? I am shocked by many recent posts of MTs stating they type 150 or 175 lph, and at what, 8 or 9 cpl? That's like $12-16 an hour when years ago many of us made $25-30 an hour on average. I am fortunate to still be paid that well but I know it's not the norm. I just don't understand when or why this became acceptable, and just because you can work at home??? and/or can you actually live on those wages in some states???

Not true. I worked at Transcend for years and things have

For years people at Transcend were very friendly and the only time things got really heated on the forum were over personal opinion posts like politics and stuff.  Not any more.  More and more people are to the point of not knowing what to do with this company anymore.  People who have been there years and years have quit or are quitting, and I think most of the peers that are happy are relatively new and haven't seen the downward spiral.  A friend of mine quit a while ago and said she got a letter about a month after she quit asking her to sign a release saying she wouldn't take Transcend to court or be party to any claims relating to her employment with Transcend.  If things were that hunky dory they wouldn't be so scared that they need to ask people to sign waivers when they leave.

Yes, it's true. The CEO and President and everyone who works in the office all came from L&H.
Also many of their QA staff and MTs.
Not true. Good things have been said. sm

Actually only one person said anything negative and that was that they didn't pay, but others who have and are working for them countered that and said they do indeed pay.

I started with them last week and am happy so far.  Haven't worked a full pay period so can't say for sure on the pay/don't pay issue.

They have an office in Texas and an office in India.  If you don't like/want to work for a company that works with India also then it isn't for you, otherwise it has been good for me so far.  The account I am on is pretty easy and I am being very productive.  It is editing and transcription, from what I've seen about 1/3 standard transcription and 2/3 editing VR files.

    Hope this helps.

Just somebody stirring things up. Not true.

That is wonderful news. I hope the changes stick and the new office manager is a true asset to the
owner.  She is a lovely woman and I wish her much success.  I just might check them out again.  Thanks for the information.
I worked in an orthopedic office
not that long ago that used Dictaphone and our servers would go down quite a bit. It seemed like at least once a week. So I think it's a Dictaphone problem. As far as the work load, I'm getting pretty disgusted. This is going on at least 3-4 weeks of low to no work. My first thought would be an overhire, but they are still hiring for new accounts - why don't they give some of those new accounts to the MTs that already work there who are out of work. Doesn't make sense to me. I've asked for backup accounts, and keep getting the answer that the work is low everywhere. Starting to worry.
I worked out of the Monrovia office
and was a victim of all the shenanigans. The suits think they can, well, you know, on the MTs. Yep, yep, yep.
I worked for them also and the greatest office staff. .. nm

I worked for them about 2 years ago...didn't have to go to the office
to train though, did it at home. At the time they paid by the character...some off the wall formula to get the actual pay, but worked out to around 8 cpl so they said. QA sucked at their job, just didn't have the knowledge I guess. And management...you just don't want to work there!
they are NOT Indian owned - I worked for them in the office
I said they offshore. But THEY ARE NOT Indian owners. They are American owners deep into scientology and the whole L Ron Hubbard thing - not that that makes a difference, but just thought I would throw that in there.
Wow. I worked for Medifax 15 years go. My office

I'm happy for you that things worked out.
My girlfriend was an MT with them for 8 years and quit for health reasons.  She became good friends with one of the HR personell and this is what she was told.  Why in the world go through so much background checks, physical examinations, etc?  It doesn't make sense.  Do they do that for offshore MTs?  BTW - my girlfriend is NOT a liar!!
I worked for them for a year. Things seems to (sm)
be fine until I found out they lied about my pay. They claimed I would get 8, but they only gave me 7. Also, they had me on the only good account they had where I could get 300 lph. When they saw I got that consistently, they put me on a lousy account where I was lucky to get 120 lph. I asked and asked about that to no avail. I would say stay away.
That might have worked when co was still Edix, things are different
    z
Been a few years since I worked there so things
may be different now.  But, I had to rerecord, account was 85% Indian, can't remember pay, but it certainly wasn't enough to compensate for having the combination above.  The office was also calling me up to 6 times a day, not necessarily for anything work related either.  They seemed to be so disorganized that they had to call several times a day to ask questions instead of just asking everything at once.  I didn't think their system was that user friendly either.  I only lasted a couple of months.
I'm glad they worked things out for you (sm)
I've been with them nearly 2 years now and they have been more than fair and flexible with me.  Good Luck to you!
friend of mine worked in their office in Annapolis - sm
Two of her checks bounced. Owner flies off to India every other week to check on offices in India. His sales force is US, but 90% of work goes to India. Apparently the owner takes care of the India people and sales force first and foremost before he takes care of the US MTs and editors. This was a year ago - I don't know if things have changed/
Once worked for a group of surgeons, 12 different specialities in their office. (nm)

I worked for them and what you say was just not true.
My ROM was very unresponsive, no matter what I requested, and whenI requested a different account, even just to do 5 reports a day for something other than oncology, and she would not let me move, and I was not asking to move to an easy account. I am a very good Transcriptionist and was told by QA that my work was excellent. When I resigned, the only thing that EK said was that I could not come back if I did not give 2 weeks notice. Well, who would want to go back to work for that kind of treatment. It was terrible and they are definitely not accommodating.
It is true. I have worked for both. Someone just
posted what the insurance cost for a single and Axolotl is cheaper.  Also Axolotl pays better per line than WMX, plus extras.  Made $400 more/month at Axolotl over what I was making at WMX.
This is true..Put it this way. I made $45,000 this year but worked 3 jobs and at least 60
hours a week and sometimes up to 80. I have no desire to do that anymore. I'd be happy with $35,000 working 40 hours a week. What a dream job.
True. Most have less issues than the Q, though. I worked there 10 years before switching.
Webmedx definitely beats them. You can trust management at any of these larger places anymore.
NOT TRUE! I worked every account and all work types and couldn't

The main office was in Bolingbrook but they built an office in Yorkville last fall. SM
I think that the owners live in Yorkville, so it was built close to their house. Nice office, just pretty far out.
Just curious, is the MQ Nashville office the old Lanier office? nm
    nm
I don't work in the office and never claimed to. I am just saying that since the new office open
October with everyone of the admin staff in one place, these problems do not occur any more.
Can't get paid in the office if you don't work in the office.
JLG has MT's working at home, not in the office, not to mention working out of state.  The mail is the only way to get paid since they have temporarily suspended direct deposit.  The only ones getting paid on time are the ones that do work in the office, like the management and people answering the phone.
Closed FW office, Indianapolis office too. nm

Glad that's true for you for 8 years. Not true for many. I love the company, but I do run out of
as do many others. Wish I were as fortunate as you.
Not necessarily true. That is not a true test of skill.
Do you know how many people get others to take tests for them? It happens and it happens more often than you might think. The only skill that shows anyway is that you can do it.

We are actually more than a transcriptionist. We are specialists in our field and we are supposed to know some things regarding anatomy and physiology as a working base. That's how we can judge if a physician dictates something in accurately and many do because they can't pronounce or just are not thinking. That's why our skills of basic knowledge come into play and that means basic knowledge of body parts. If our job was just to sit there and type without thinking about what we are transcribing, then all patients are in trouble and this is just based on what I see as a QA person.

It's more than just knowing how to transcribe and some of the companies have discovered how to know what your basic knowledge is based on what you have picked up with your experience by utilizing your references etc. Hopefully that utilization of your references has taught you something that does stick in your head.

Beliefs like yours are just so far off base. You have to know what you are doing. It's not just about being able to listen and type. Base knowledge is a very important thing and the services have to find a way to know that knowledge base that is there in your head.

I worked for a temp agency for 3 years..LOVED it. Just worked. No counts, no hassels, GREAT pay..
No benefits at the time.  I even learned pathology while temping (8 months on that assigment).  I loved the variety, the ability to say I'm not available such and such time.  I'd do it again in a heartbeat if I didn't need benefits.
No. Expect good things, and good things will come

A company is ONLY supposed to verify that someone worked there, what dates they worked, whether PT o
and last date worked. It opens everyone up to a lawsuit if more is given, so most companies are told by their attorneys and business advisors to verify only.

No one has a right to a reference, only verification of employment.
This may be true... and that is philisophically true, but
and pay bills while being screwed? This is what I think the OP is scared of... I certainly agree and honestly think it is unfair to put people in this precarious position... on one hand be grateful you still have your job, or a job, and on the other, immediately there will possibly be a cut in pay, for which you may have to give up your home, or medicine or reduce your budget for food. I don't know if I am the only one, but I think the OP still has a good head on her shoulders and that may be the problem...at least for employers out there who are switching to VR.. and their employees
It worked! Latest suggestion from DJ's email worked. nm

If I worked a longer day, I just put my regular shift, 3p-11p, or whatever. If I worked sm
an extra day, then I was told to fudge the hours around on the other days so it all came out to 40.  I didn't really mind -- have learned not to expect overtime in this profession -- and I was happy to be able to work whenever I needed to get the lines I needed.  However, them telling me directly to fudge on my time sheet would seem to be a violation of the wage and hour laws.  I suppose it doesn't matter now if they do not even have enough work to make the minimum line count necessary.  Several of the companies I thought were golden seem to have gotten a bit tarnished lately … sad.
Glad it worked for you. I have worked for companies
that were more reliable and paid without the delay I had. Maybe you started before they started doing that but it makes no difference. I TOO am a single parent.

You are not trying to argue? Sounds like you not only are trying to argue but you are just waiting for anyone to post anything about the co on here so you can just get out there and respond, which seems to be the way I have always noticed it. It's like all the MTs or whoever that work there are just waiting to respond.

This board is about the good points and bad points about companies. I am telling my experience.

The people were nice people though, but my experience was not a good one and I will not say it was.

I can go a week after the end of payday and even 10days later but that's it. Kids would starve.
    Which office?
    /
been through three office changes in the last 10

Went from 7 cents a line to now 9.5 cpl, on this current account going on three years, the one before that, five years, and the one before that two.  My opinion, i'm a good MT and they treat me as such.  Do you work your schedule?  Do you do PLUS lines while maintaining quality?  Are you up their butt constantly asking for raises?  Take tons of time off?  They are weeding out the awful MTs by starving them of work!!!

    Which office is this.
    :
Are you an MT in the office currently
I do not know which office you are from; if you are hearing rumblings,it is probably true. Many offices are closing and I do not know why. I was told my office was closing because there was no need for it?? It closed this September. Is your office being transferred to another region?

I am sure you will keep your position but at what cost I do not know. I am still waiting for the PACKET to come and I am nervous about that myself.

You are not alone. We are all feeling this re-structuring and in my opinion things do not look good.

Try not to let it get to you too much. MQ is not worth it.
I have been upset for 3 months now and will be making a big decision on what to do in the next few weeks.

Hope things work out for you.
what office are you with? nm

    TT office help
I have had plenty of work too. I guess it depends what accounts you are on. As far as office help, I always get a prompt response to any question or need I have. Why would it matter how much office work they have?
    TT office help
I mean why would it matter how much office help they have, duh!
They also have an office in ....sm
southwestern Indiana, but when you call that office you speak to an Indian male. Go figure.
THAT MQ office does sound bad!
Keep in mind, they are not all the same.  In 7 years of working for them, I've never had an experience remotely like that.  My immediate supervisor will respond to my emails within the hour and my regional manager will respond at least the same day, usually within a couple of hours.  I have never not received a pay check on time.  I don't doubt she is telling the truth, but she got a bad apple.  Doesn't mean they're all that way!
    MQ Dallas Office
Actually, the work is not difficult.  I'm one of the highest leveled MT's at Spheris (back again) and when I was with MQ I started off on one of the most difficult accounts in the SW region.  I found it actually to be very easy.  But, to each their own.  Its just my opinion.  Being an IC person, you may not have as much to say about all the communication (or should I say lack there of) from that office.  You hardly ever get updates (especially if you are use to seeing them) and in order to find out if there is OT available, it's like pulling teeth to find out.  Payroll in that office is horrendous.  You email for a question regarding Payroll and it will take them a good 2 weeks to answer.  You call and you almost always get the voicemail, which also takes them 2 weeks to get back to you.  You leave a message with someone and they always says they'll get right back to you, but low and behold they never do!!  The supers aren't that bad, but the higher ups are the problem down there!   I heard a few of the other region were wonderful to work for, just wish I had been given one of those regions to work in and I might have been a pretty happy camper!!   Good luck and hope all goes well for you.
Me too .. it is with the SW/Dallas office ?? NM

Can anyone tell me anything about this office? I am still debating on whether to turn in paperwork or not.
Cannot recommend this office at all!
I have been there for a long time, and it just gets worse. They have lost so many accounts that I seem to constantly be learning something new, and I do acute care, any specialty. No money to be made this way. In addition, the office personnel have changed so much that I don't even know who to call with certain matters. It is beyond frustrating!

The only high point has been the excellent computer room staff, but I figure they will probably all be let go in favor of calling 1-800-DICTATE or whatever.

If you have other options, I suggest exercising them! I can E-mail you if you need more info.
