You're welcome! I find being on the ground floor of an account has its advantages, don't you?

There definitely is a difference and if you want to spend countless minutes searching for docs, countless spellings, then you are not making sense, constantly learning ESLs, then your are in training and not making the mortgage. I post here about inequities I have found and hope they help. Surely, no Transcriptionist is going to go my opinion alone, but if I am not making money and someone asks and I have been there I will try to give them something to ponder. Being on the ground floor of a company or account has its advantages and surely you know that. Thank you for reading my post.

Many of us are but never had the advantages - sm
    of the education they had.
    Couple of advantages
No harm in doing your own - but I have been audited and it was not fun. This fellow is my new accountant I do believe. If after 20 years of IRS management he has no clue how to do my taxes, then I am dead in the water. You might have a CPA do your taxes one year and then use it as your guide. I just feel far and away safer from my own experience than having to worry about it. He also said to save all records for 6 years. The IRS can go 3 years back on one audit.
Do you know why wealthy get tax advantages?
And by the way, they do pay more in tax dollars than a $40K income ... but percentagewise may not.

Wealthy get tax advantages not just because they are wealthy but because they INVEST in businesses -- businesses that provide job opportunities for the rest of us. They invest in research. They invest in the economy and take great risk with their money.

If the wealthy were not willing to invest, none of us would have any companies to work at. We wouldn't have many of the places we shop and work at.

Advantages of being IC vs. employee
IC's are basically self-employed contractors. When you're your own boss, you:

    1) Set your hours of availability.

    2) Set your days of availability.

    3) Can deduct from your income virtually all of your expenses of running your business (a portion of your mortgage for your home office, your taxes, your health insurance premiums, your computer/software/printing expenses, etc.)

    4) Sometimes you can even choose your own platform for performing your work. When you provide your own tools, you are free to do with them as you wish, not just worry that the Big Q is going to realize you're posting on this board while you're logged in... ;)

The big key to making those advantages above actually WORK for you is to realize that you are personally in control of your destiny, work-wise. When I'm evaluating being an employee vs. an IC, if the IC company wants me to work THEIR shift (i.e., Tu-Sat, or PM's, or whatever), if I'm not free to change that or pick different hours, then I keep looking. If the employer were to set those restrictions, and I were to choose employment with them, then I would be agreeing to their terms. But a contractor hiring me as a subcontractor is hiring my services as a SUBCONTRACTOR not as a dollars-for-hours servant.

There has been talk around this board about unionizing, but personally I think we would get a lot further along in the game if we all became subcontractors or contractors and bought our own benefits privately. We would be better able to take back our land as far as setting our own hours and maintaining the flexibility that enticed us out of the hospitals and into our homes in the first place!

Absolutely! If you're that dissatisfied with your job, find another one!

consistently safe from overhiring--and then come back and give all the rest of us the name. In the meantime, for me at Webmedx most days have plenty of work, although some days require adjusting my schedule during the day to the work flow.

You know, evolving electronic capabilities and patient needs have now led hospitals--our employers' clients--to expect the very quick turnaround needed. Years past have taught home MTs we can work when it suits us. Is it any wonder that MTSOs are currently doing their best to deal with these realities by overhiring when needed? Webmedx is trying to stabilize this situation to everyone's benefit--economic at least for us--by pushing its MTs to meet our commitment of hours per week while still allowing some flexibility.

I'm MsIndigo and I approved this ad. :) Best wishes whereever you land.

At Webmedx, if you're scheduled for 35 hours, you may find (like I did) that (sm)
you have to do 40 due to the time clock situation.
Any current info on Med-Scribe? They're hiring and all I can find on here is from 2004. Thx!

LOL - you're getting MY account SM
my hospital account is switching over to Axo and you'd better believe they outsource. They quoted me 7 cents a line - I have been doing these doctors for 12+ years now with pretty much 100% accuracy. I lost the account earlier this summer for 1 week, but they came back because of major quality issues - sounds like Axo got that ironed out, but again, they DO outsource.
I find the sound quality not so great on some accounts. I guess it depends on what account you get
    on.
actually it depends on which account you're on
    x
Yep!!! We're working on the same account.
    I'll email you..
    Hold your ground everybody
They should only be able to get newbies or Indians for that rate.  It seems like a lot of companies are hopping on the bandwagon to try to get away with offering lower and lower rates.  I have noticed some companies later on bringing their rates back up a bit though - probably because they can't get any good MTs at that rate - so HOLD YOUR GROUND!!!  I think it's doing some good already.  I also recently read that some doctors and hospitals are requesting that they work be transcribed in the US only - which is good news!
Stand your ground and tell them you would like to
If they don't tell you then move on to the next company.  For the posting below re: depending on how you test determines your salary.  I would never work for a company that did that.  It is not fair.  Many of us are great transcriptionist, but test horribly.  If a company makes you angy or they don't answer your question, then keep on truckin', there are plenty of them out there!  Good Luck
    Middle ground
I know how you feel.  Many of us are taking antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications.  I'll bet our collective plight has done wonders for the pharmaceutical industry's profit margin.  I can't tell you what to do, but it won't hurt you to look around and you likely can find a better employee situation with better benefits.  Taking action is a good antidepressant as well.  Try not to be in a slump.  Stay active and proactive.  I know it's easier said than done.
I hope I don't get that account you're talking about either.
I am a little scared now.
Don't know, maybe they're getting ready to go live on a new account?

Not one account lost in over 3 years. You're wrong. sm
They just chose not to bid on one that went to voice recognition but have had 100% renewal on contracts.

I agree wholeheartedly! I stand my ground. USA only. sm
I have had clients threaten to look elsewhere for a lower price and I tell them, please do so. I have to agree with you here, they always come back willing to pay the rate and happy to have the quality and service I provide.

I have never lost a client forever to offshore, will never offshore, and sooner or later all MT work will be back on US soil again. Believe me, it will happen eventually.

I knew it was going to happen once I saw the positive posts about Keystrokes. Some people obviously get sick thrills from stirring the pot.

I hope they're happy now. I am sure Keystrokes will miss out on some great MTs because they won't apply due to the posts that have been put the last few days.

Can't anyone accept that there really is a good company out there?

I think that it is a cop-out. The companies that stand their ground will prevail in the long run.

Anyone have any current info. Any employees out there? Give me the low-down if you can! Thanks a million.
That account in Texas was not a MQ account. They did not use DQS on that account until KS started.
They are moving 3 other accounts to DQS between now and January 1st. I asked. The MQ accounts they have gotten in the past did not go to DQS. I followed my old account, which is how I know, and it was Meditech. The account is still run by KS and is a big account too.
Hope you're enjoying those slave wages you're earning.

Repeatedly told another new account would come soon, but it never did. In fact, our slow account is.
everyone else's backup account. What a disorganized mess.
So you guys feel you're getting paid what you're worth with VR?
I'm not trying to be snarky. I've never done VR, so I'm trying to understand.

You're happy with your paycheck with VR? Do you find the files to be as bad as the original post implied?
Then when we MT's are **thrown on** an account because of lack of work on our account

What is so hard to understand about that?

Then we have that account info filed away in a folder in our Outlook Express by name of account and can look at past emails sent out regarding that account.  Not fun to be tossed on an account that you have never seen NOR ever received an email on.  Sounds like business to me.

You are wrong about the account. KS dumped the account for several reasons. sm
It happened quickly and was unexpected but it was really for the best. Keystrokes does not string people along or lie to you. After being with MQ for too long, I am happy there, although it is not for everyone.

I really would give them a call as the other poster suggested. That whole situation was a nightmare for everyone including management but the account pulled a fast one on them.

I have the facts on this because I have a good friend at the hospital and what she told me matched what my manager did.

I know that they are trying to give more when so many companies are giving less and taking away more.
So you're telling me, basically, they're bad news?
They offered me 0.095/line and you know - it sounded too good to be true, but I SWEAR the recruiter told me they do not outsource. Oh brother... I just wish they'd be honest. I really don't know what to do.
Not the OP, but they're supposed to take out all the other taxes as you're an employee with th
    s
No, they're not losing money....they're gaining!
If a company charges their clients by the line, I'm sure that line rate does not go down even though the MTs pay does.

ASR pays about 2/3 normal line rate to its MTs. Their ultimate goal is to have the MTs do twice as much work. Therefore, the client is getting their work faster, but paying their normal rate, while corporate gets that money and the MTs get the lower line rate.

Whether the newbies want to realize it or not, MTSOs have not increased MTs' salaries in the past 10 years. They still start out at the same pay as the last century!

This used to be a very lucrative profession. Nowadays, most MTs are considered to be paid at the poverty level. You don't believe me, look it up!
My account has lots of work..ask for another account/nm

The account I am on only requires 1200 lpd. Maybe it is that particular account. Ask them if they
have a lower one. Doesn't hurt to ask. I do anywhere between 1200 and 1800 lpd. Sometimes it feels impossible to do 1200, sometimes the 1800 is quick. Depends on the doctors and the day for me. I do average 15,000 per pay period though, which is 1500 a day. Not impossible by any means, and I never go over 40 hours a week. Most weeks, I am closer to 35 hours with lunch breaks and life.
I think it depends on the account. I have one account that pays sm
$2.25 for specials and one that pays $3.50. I was on one previously that did not pay them different at all, but they were all short and mostly PICC line placements.

I worked for a hospital that went to KS and they were not charging extra for the specials. I know what they charged per report, and there was no way they were getting rich on the difference after taxes and all that. I was suprised. I was in on the bid review and the average to charge was between $1.75 and $2.75 per report or 0.13 and 0.15 per line. There were 15 companies that bid on the account, and all were within those ranges.

I went to KS about 6 months after the hospital outsourced to them. When we were displaced, I accepted a different job in the hospital and hated it.
That is not true. It varies from account to account. I have
several internet accounts and on some you do have to input the patient information.
