You don't have to quit. Just work the hours

Posted By: Very Old MT on 2006-09-26
In Reply to: How do you tactifully quit when you have been begging for work? - June

you are scheduled for and don't depend on them for anything. Put your energies into the other two positions you have and more dependence on them. This job will take care of itself, because they know you can't make a living with the way they are behaving. They will either give you more work to keep you, or if you don't care what they do, the job will just disappear on its own. If you must quit, I think it would be safe to say to them that they are not meeting YOUR needs and that you must move on. I have done it several times because I have been in the same position you are in that I would call bait and switch. Some of they were glad to see me go, others wanted to keep me, but I can't stay unless I am making the money that I REQUIRE to make a living.

Wont be changing hours..just jobs. I quit!!!
There are plenty enough companies out there who do not off-shore. I never thought much about it before because it didnt seem to effect me, but now it does, so I'm gone.
Sorry, I work 15 hours a day 5 days a week and 5 hours the other 2, when I come here I dont proof.
nm
the day has 24 hours, I work only 6-8 hours, so, lots of time to post...nm
nm
10-15 an hour for 8 hours is better than nothing for 8 hours when there is no work.
x
That's exactly what I was going to say. Yes, I work at least 12 hours a day, sometimes 15 hours
to get all of my line count in because I have so many interruptions in my day.  There is no way I would tell my company this nor expect them to pay me OT that they never asked you to do. Unless, I was called by my supervisor and asked to work extra for OT, I would never just take it upon myself to work and expect to be paid.  If you were not authorized to work OT, then your not getting paid. Point blank. I do not work at TT, but I have worked at enough jobs, at home as an MT and otherwise outside of home, that all have the same policy, your paid OT when your asked to work it. It's it is just a case of not being able to get your required line count in 8 hours, then maybe your in the wrong profession or possibly just the wrong company/account for you. This just seems bizarre to me. Just tell yourself, your not getting paid for OT because they aren't approving it so don't work it. Again, if you were asked to work OT, told it would be OT, and then they ask you not to record it, I'd pitch a fit, but from what I see, you've done this on your own.
Why would anyone work 8 hours a week. The poster above said 16 or 24 hours a week.
:
All nationals I work for you only work 40 hours unless they approve overtime.

do i have to quit MQ to work for wedmedx
Help!  Do I have to quit my job with MQ to work part-time with Webmedx?
RE: do i have to quit MQ to work for wedmedx
Not unless you want to. Your choice.
quit mq to work for webmdx
i was told they have an ER account that is busy on the weekends...
I quit due to lack of work. I know of 6 others who also

quit before I did due to lack of work.  There are some accounts that have a lot of work, but unless you can work on those accounts it isn't much of a help.  I had 3 accounts and with the rare exception of when there was a 2-week period of OT available, I was only getting maximum of 18 hours week.  I attempted working during all 3 shifts, working my days off and still couldn't get in my hours/lines.  I asked for more accounts, I was willing and able to work, the quality of my work was excellent and I received multiple e-mails from my STM stating how pleased they were with my work, so the excuse that I just couldn't cut it is BULL.

I don't know what the work load is like since I left, but I do know what it was like when I was there and there just wasn't work on my 3 accounts and anyone could see the numbers on the updates and see there were accounts that had tons of work, but there were many accounts with low numbers too.  We were also told that under no circumstances would we be paid for downtime.

My current company has had some days where work may not have been available on your shift to complete your line committment, but they pay us for any downtime and we don't have to worry about trying to make it up on a different shift or our days off.  The pay is probably less than what we would make transcribing, but is a generous amount.

I have worked for companies that were much worse than WMX, but currently work for one much better.   When someone asks how things are there I am honest in my assessment as I see them, but usually get negative posts in return about how I'm not willing to take on more accounts and my work isn't good enough, etc.  That is all BULL.

If anyone goes back and read the archives there are many similar posts to mine that were not made by me.

If you have lots of work, have a good STM, and are happy well I'm happy for you, but because someone else has a different story doesn't mean they are a bitter ex-employee who just couldn't cut it.

I just quit Medquist, hired by Etrans and quit them after one afternoon during the last two weeks!sm
Medquist made me buy a new computer to go to the "Docuscribe" system that was so much better than cottage.  When I got there I took a real big pay cut to the tune of probably 30 to 40%.  I was getting paid gross lines doing Cedars-Sinai operative reports.  I asked for more per line and my supervisor just laughed and said you think were going to pay you $0.12 a line to just do operative reports!  I said I quit.  I should have said F you and your mamma too:(  I had been there all together 7 years through buyouts.  I am just sick of it all.  I'm going to go sew my daughter a cute little Halloween outfit right now.
How do you tactifully quit when you have been begging for work?

I was hired in at a big national. I was warned on this board about this company overhiring and running out of work, but I felt I had to give it a chance. Well, after  the first week of training was over, I have literally ran out of work everyday and requested a back up account, which I only received 4 hours pay of training to do. Now, the primary and secondary account is out of work, and in order to make any money I have to stay up until midnight to make up hours if the work is available. If the work is not available, I have to fill out a nonpaid PTO request. I have only been with the company a little over 4 weeks and I cannot believe this is happening. I barely made 42 hours last week and will have a small check yet again this pay. I have had it, I have finally learned to not put all my eggs in one basket and have obtained an IC position with another company and a full-time editing job with another company to keep a pay check coming in. My question is, how do I quit this job with no work? What do I tell them? I do not want to be rude or leave in a bad standing. How do I quit after less than 6 weeks on the job. I have to quit because my bills are backing up. Any suggestions on what to say to quit with tact would be appreciated.

Thank you all.

Quit Precyse. Work for someone who does not offshore. nm
.
I worked for them a year ago and quit, but now I work for them again and....
I am very happy.  I could never get any work before or if I had a question I could never get it answered.  I am now on a different platform at a different hospital and am happy.  Pay is also always on time (direct deposit.)  I could care less if they are indian run, they pay me on time and leave me to my work.
I quit twice. Both times for the same reason...low/no work. nm
x
No India? Most of the work goes there. I quit last August SM
could not make any money there.
Or you could just quit and leave more work for the rest of us... Or, I know - you could sm
do your OWN WORK and stop policing everyone else?!
Well, go back to work and quit trying to stir the pot.

Isnt it sad. We just want to go to work every day on our shift, work our 8 hours and be done with it
Instead I sit here hours hoping the Indians leave some work for us so we can at least get our 8 hours in. Nothing like logging onto you shift and being told no work. Nice.
they cant "make you work certain hours" but they can find someone that is willing to work them
If not, they dont have to hire you as IC or anything for that matter. So yes it is perfectly legal.

If she hires you as an IC and it doesn't state in your contract when she needs that particular IC coverage and she then dictates what hours you work, she cannot do that.

But she can refuse to hire you if you don't provide the coverage that she is looking for.

Quit MQ in June - still in shock with new job. Plenty of work, OT available. (sm)
I just can't tell you how fortunate I feel.  The bonus program is good and understandable, you don't have to be a math genius to figure it out.  I have 2  accounts, great supervisor, pleasant office staff.  For those of you still unhappy with your current jobs, keep the faith, there are good companies out there.  Good luck on your search.
I felt that exact same way and quit a job that was not work out..6 weeks and 30 applications sm

later I am a temporary employee at Walmart for 6.00/hr.  Still more than I was making at my production job but how humiliating.

Just do your work and quit being a cherry picking busy body.
Maybe some people cannot understand the dictator. If you understand the dictator, then just do the report and quit whining on this board.

I wouldn't quit a decent company for seasonal low work volume.
I'd hang around and see what the New Year brings. I wouldn't say that if you were working for MQ, but I would for a company with a decent reputation. If it is still slow in January, I'd talk to my supervisor and find out what her take is on the situation.
What hours do you work?
Also, which days? I was thinking of applying with this company. Maybe you could switch your schedule around a little.
They do want you to work the hours (sm)
you have committed to.  If you do that, you shouldn't have any problems making your lines - minimum 6600 per week.
How many hours do you work
between the 3? I have enough trouble working part-time at one and taking care of 3 kids, a dog, my house and husband. How do you do it?
I work 35 hours

The schedules used to be based on 35 hours a week, 172 lines per hour.  I don't know if this has changed with the new account.  It is something you need to discuss with the recruiter/supervisor on your interview.

I type well above 12,000 lines per pay period. So, it is definitely possible.

and how many hours do you work...100? LOL
x
I only work 6 hours a day - M-F. nm
x
They can get away with it, if they need someone to work those hours

then they can give the work to whoever is there to do it.  If you contract to paint someone's house, you are going to do it when they say you can not when you want to do it.  The customer has a right to expect something done when they want it done, not when you want to do it.

No IC should have to work set hours.
That is absurd.  If there is any sign of control such as set hours no matter whether these MTSOs like to word it nights and/or weekends equals employee status.  Be very careful of these MTSOs who are getting away with paying an IC to be an employee.  PHewee...
i would want to work more than 40 hours is what
I just need a certain amount of lines since they only start out at 8 cpl!!
There isn't enough work for 35 hours. nm

Maybe she wants a PT job so she work her hours
around her husband's schedule, so that she won't have little kids interupting her work (which is what I do).  Don't be jealous just because you can't do it with kids, because there are those of us that are good enough to handle it.
Have to work all hours to try to get my sm
lines in.
You CAN work over 40 hours you just
can't put it on your time card
You have to work hours that are the best sm
for you and your family. If your family time is important then work your hours around it. I would pick fly s**t out of pepper before I would lose my precious family time. It is more important to me than money. The trolls on here can drop dead or go back to wherever they came from.
Does MQ address how one is to work 40 hours when there is no work available?
Do they cover any of the things they always refused to address before?
Can work as many hours as I want at the national I work for now, and they don't pay OT until you
to a certain level of production.
No work here for 1 and 1/2 hours now. Bad thing is my PT gig also has no work.(sm)
I don't mind flexing to get my lines/hours in but when you are balancing more than 1 job it isn't easy. Tonight I am scheduled to work on my PT job so can't make up TT lines unless it is really late this evening and that just ain't gonna happen.
Why do you have to work 40 hours if you are statutory? nm
x
You will be required to work set hours.
:
how may hours a week do you work
or maybe a better question is how many lines a day do you do?
how many hours a week do you work to get this?
so, you don't really know what it's like to work a national.
how many hours do you have to work minimum?
nm
No, you work 10-12 hours and pretend

nm

you don't work a set number of hours
but to a projected line count you set for yourself. Some may want to work more full-time, some not. Some can work at 250 lph, some at 150 lph. Don't let the minimum scare you.
How many hours do you work a week? (NM)
nm
I work MY SCHEDULED Hours, do you?
Let's not fight about this. I stated some do not and then scramble on the weekends to make up time, then the work is low on Monday, WHICH IS MY SCHEDULED DAY.
