You misinterpret what was said, twist words--sm

and thoughts. YOU said you did not personally give $..and I said, yes you do and explained by what means. I am not suggesting anything beyond that. YOU come up with a solution. You are looking for an argument and I am not going to give it to you. Take it to the politics board.

Don't twist my words. I said that I type 1600+ lines per day. sm
I do. My personal requirement for myself is 1600 lines, 1400 lines if I am not feeling well or have kids home without a babysitter. MOST days I type in the 2500-3000 line range. There are days I do more than that, but not many. I do not work overtime very often; I have 5 kids and it is impossible for me to do so. Don't read more into this than there is.
Do you always twist everything to fit what you want? I bet they are glad they did
not hire you :)
Wow, what a twist on my intent.
Wow, I never imagined this response. I truly was posting only with an intent to help. So many MDI MTs complained on and on about not having work. I refuse to play a victim but certainly do NOT see myself as vulture because I take responsibility for myself. There are 30 or more accounts at MDI. Long gone are days of having 1 to 3 accounts. There are no personal accounts, again, those are long gone. I do think that fact stinks, and I agree with a poster below that it has encouraged us to turn on each other. I never dreamed I would be labeled a poacher, a bottom feeder, or a vulture - but I shouldn't be surprised, as this forum has nasty floating karma that always crops up somehow. Most companies have valued MTs being cross trained, NOT to pit us against each other but to get good coverage for accounts. I have always believed cross training was a good plan and love learning new accounts.

I don't have the luxury of sitting back and being happy with 12 jobs to do at my leisure, as I am a breadwinner and my full time paycheck is required like most of us. I can see all of your points, but it's kind of like many debates occurring here - how many of us have the luxury to stand up on principle - against offshoring, against VR, or now, what, against being cross trained? So that we can honor some kind of now antiquated view that every MT gets to have one personal account that no one else should be able to work on? I can't imagine sitting back and saying, no way am I going to cross train, if I run out of work, so be it. Who can do this?! Someone who does not need their full time paycheck maybe. If it's going to be implied the cross training is now somehow unprincipled, then remember if you point the finger you got 3 fingers pointing back at you. I don't think any of us have a right to point at EACH OTHER for trying to make a living when we most of us are still here, complaining about no work/offshoring/VR, we haven't quit, we haven't stood up for our principles and banded together, no, we are picking at an MT like me. Go figure.

If the company was a small one and had a few accounts, well, that would be how it was. If there was no other work to back up, then I would HAVE to find a part time job somewhere else. Don't worry, I won't come take your 12 jobs out from under you. For goodness sake.

Wow. I'm actually flabbergasted. I guess no matter how you look at it, everyone has the feeling that someone is screwing someone over. If I sit with here no work, I get to complain (over and over and OVER on this board) that it is MDI sending my work to India or to Transcend or overstaffing, or, now, is it actually because your fellow MTs DARE to cross train, increase their chances of actually having work???... and watch my bills pile up? That seems pretty short sighted to me and is not the route I choose as many on this board seem to have chosen. But, if I take control of the situation and eagerly learn new accounts that seems to be appreciated by the company and helps pay my bills, well, I'm a poacher, taking my sisters work, a vulture just waiting to snag YOUR personal jobs. Wow. As I said, when my account is slow, I have enough accounts that I only go to the ones that are busy. There ARE MDI accounts that are busy and will absolutely absorb other smartly cross trained MTs to get in some work - you just have not found them yet. Nobody can win here on this board. I wish you all the best of luck.

WORDS R' US

Hello-- I do know for a fact that the company is legit, as I live in the same city as the company. Dont know much about pay, although I do remember that they pay by the dictated minute. Hope this helps!

a few words
I don't know how much you know about the internet but posting in all caps is the equivalent of screaming and you seem to be screaming alot in your post below..

Just briefly, you seem to be posting as an MT, citing your experience with platforms, difficult QA programs, transcribing off the clock - yet you write about concerns that are definitely those of management, getting staff to show up for work, work flow, if you can't work that shift don't apply, we created offshoring so all of you MTs out there… Most MTs I know are concerned with work pools, fair treatment, honesty, timeliness of payroll, quality of dictators, line rate, etc. I have enough respect for the MTs and management that read this board to be able to intuit whether you are an MT or not or exactly what the motives of your post were; maybe to score points, I don't know, but whatever your motive, your post does not address my post at all..

In a very few words without any caps I told the MT asking the question about my experience. My post was truthful and I went out of my way to tell her that my experience didn't mean it would be the same for her and even indicated such things are hard to determine. I don't know if she was an Editor or MT I posted to warn someone who asked for guidance about my experience simply because I wouldn't want anyone to go through what I and others have. And I would want someone to give me the same heads ups if I had asked for guidance on a board about a certain company. It was measured, thoughtful, and brief and not an embellishment or downright lie to make a company look bad. I think you took care of that pretty well with your post.

I am not going to get into any debate with you or follow up any response you might make as you seem to have a lot of anger you are carrying around and maybe even an anger management problem but mostly because you seem to deal in absolutes that most reasonable people do not. Because you don't know of a situation does not mean it doesn't exist, because you have not had a similar experience does not make it an embellishment or lie, but mostly your generalizations and judgmentalness are breathtaking. MTs brought offshoring on themselves, download work and then go shopping, do laundry and dishes all day - that's a lot of laundry and a lot of dishes! - most do not take their jobs seriously, no work ethic, go back to the doctor's office and on and on… I just know that my experience has been MTs, editors and management in the transcription field pretty much run the same as most other professions, a lot of them are serious thoughtful professionals, a lot of them aren't, and painting them all with the same broad stroke because you happen to disagree with them or with what someone posts on a board doesn't give a lot of credibility to you or what you are saying.

As I waded through your derisiveness and sarcasm and anger I just felt bad for you and maybe you ought to think about the fact MT might not be for you…and if you are a member of Alltype management, oh wow…

Working for MQ seems intolerable to me from just what I read from their postings here. My work, for the most part, is smooth, nothing like only allowed 3 blanks (I would be in a tizzy then because of our ESLs) and so on. I cannot believe people actually want to stay there. What is the big draw?
don't stick by their words
There is way too much of that in this industry.
Thank you. I think those are just made up words.
unfortunately
There is a Google box right under the words
type in what you want to search and then click the circle beside 'mtstars' located right below the Google box, then search. This will bring up archives on your topic, if there are any.
You have to be kidding. Per your own words, DR

is not the best. Any poor MTs coming from MQ have been beaten to death by now - they don't need another company that is not THE BEST. Let's see - what was I being tactful and leaving out? It takes 4-ever and a day to actually start - criminal background checks - yeah, I know, no big deal, but still creepy - physical exams, and plenty of other hoops - probably a month to get started. Computers were garbage and platform was down often, though none in my account received 1 cent of downtime pay. Platform antiquated and also allowed for prime cherry picking. As a newby, I used to watch the good work get sucked right out of my pool from my coworkers. Backstabbing galore, office politics, no supervision whatsoever. Pay was on the low side, but was told it was due to how great hospital accounts were - not really. MTs expected to adhere to a strict schedule - quality of work was poor as we got hospital leftovers from inhouse staff. DR also has had run-ins with the labor board and were found guilty of whatever it was they were caught doing. So, yes, let these comments scare you - check the company board archives - always lots of negative about DR. In fact, this is the first time I have ever read positives, so I honestly suspect its their recruiter trying to snag some newbies. DR was even posted about just last week - go thru pages and search for them. Good luck to you! Definitely not a good replacement for MQ. If you're close to the breakdown point, as I was when I left MQ, DR is likely to push you right over the edge.

Thank you so much for the kind words!

I want to thank you all for your kind words SM

and suggestions.  It means a lot to me.  I'm a pretty optimistic person, so I believe something better will come along...but it feels good to share my frustrations with those of you who have been there, done that, and got the T-shirt!

I better go to work!  Have a great weekend everyone and Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there.

Just Me

Your words are obviously heartfelt,
but it might be time to consider another career if you feel so dehumanized that you consider yourself a machine. Best wishes.
Perfect words! sm
I guess I needed someone else to validate for me that it might be okay. Although you'd think my hubby and three children would be enough to do it for me:)  I too am having a very hard time with the testing for other large companies; that is why I was surprised and even a little leary that I passed this one, almost too easily.  And yes, the experience on the resume would be big!  My next project for tomorrow tho (while waiting to get info that I probably won't receive for one reason or another) is to test for Amphion...been interested for awhile so what the heck. Thanks again for making me feel okay!
Thanks all for the words of wisdom. Nm

I just have ten words on the subject....
July sucked for the MT. It was so slow everywhere.
Words Unlimited in N. J.
Anybody ever hear of or work for this company in E. Brunswick, NJ?  Raymonde Pozzolano is the owner.  Need info ASAP.  Thanks!
Why Ortho Words?? sm

I most times start with Google and then make sure it is spelled correctly by looking it up in the medical dictionary.  I also use a Word Book that just gives medical words but no definitions.  That helps to narrow things down sometimes too.

I'm wondering why the above poster said to get Ortho Words.  Is that a must for all types of specialties in your opinion?  I don't have one but would get one if it is helpful.   I do Radiology so you would think that would be good for me anyway.  Think I'm going to go to Amazon.com right now and order one.

I am looking into a few different places to place resumes and I came across Words Unlimited.  There is no info in this board that I can find out about them.  Does anyone on here work for them or has worked for them.  Any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

I have 25 years of experience, yet am only in my mid40s (started while in college). I am glad you got lots of offers. It is nice to know that it is possible we are not all thought of as old and crotchety, that is exactly the word I was thinking of LOL. And you are probably right I should not judge all of them just like I thought they judge all of us. Guess I was getting paranoid after speaking to that 1 MTSO.... shame on me! Thanks for your reply :)
MDI-MD? Are you sure of her words? Never is an absolute. sm
And I find it hard to believe their recruiter, who I have dealt with for weeks now as a newbie, would use that specific term.
Too unbelievable for words
Let me see, to be able to make 25.00 per hour you would have to type about 3100 lines per hour using 8 cpl.  How is that humanly possible?????????????????

Needing some encouragement. Have been bouncing around without a good work home since before Christmas last year. I probably will not give up my IC position either. Congratulations and all the best to you starting Sept 8. Perhaps we will be working together some day! :) Thanks again for your input.
WORDS OF WISDOM

To all you hard working MTs out there.

I've been in the business too long not to have learned something. I still have not found a decent, honest and fair MT company and this is after 20 years. They require tons of qualifications out of you but in return what do you get? I don't trust ANY of them! They're  in it for the quick buck and don't give a rat's ass about you. I long for the those old days when hospitals had their own transcription departments and MTs had benefits and some security. The MT companies now want you to have all this bunch of equipment, each has their own software (this drives me crazy), they expect at the very least 98% accuracy, fast transcription, and want you to stay put at your chair all day IN CASE work comes pouring in. They want you to have your own books, your own C-Phone, unlimited long distance, high speed internet, etc. Why don't YOU demand the same things they expect of you? We all know doctors hate to dictate because there's no money to be made there. The archive departments have to get on their backs every month, so, they come in and dictate a ton of charts and you can't understand a frickin word they're saying and God forbid the ESLs...but you see, the company you're working for doesn't care and the doctors don't care. You need to hold these companies at much greater standards than you do now. Affirm yourselves, question them, get it in writing, and don't take less than what you believe you're worth! Stand up to them for once, and you'll stop this abuse. After all, it is your life and your revenues are as important as theirs. Report them to everyone you can. They are not honest and have no integrity although they will try to convince you that working for them will be the greatest thing that happened to you. C'mon....wake up girls! Stand up and tell them that we are not going to take this anymore. If docs can't talk or write, and the companies know this, they'll shove it on to you...yes, you at home, working soooooo hard to do a good job.....I'm out of this now and will never go back because to home working because THEY can't pass MY test!

Love you all but please wake up!

Monique

Thank you for your kind words! s/m
I just finally felt like it was time to share the other side of things with my company. As expected, I was met with talk to your STM (I have) and get another account (I have 4). I just felt like I needed to be honest. I do love Webmedx in most ways. Just yesterday i received praise for my work from my STM. I have NEVER had a manager take the time to do that before I worked here. They truly are nice people. My family just cannot survive with the no-work situation more than just the occasional seasonal lows. This has gone beyond that. I realize that they over hire to take care of upcoming accounts, etc. We received another mass email trying to explain the situation and how expensive it is for them these days. I totally understand that, but my family is feeling it. I have not jumped ship yet, and I might not if something better does not present itself, but I wanted to share my most recent experiences with this company. Isn't that what we are all here for? To be honest and help each other? I am not bashing this company at all, and if I DO ever leave, I will miss it--but I will not miss my ever-shrinking paycheck. I suppose it is the same everywhere these days. Thanks again for taking the time to acknowledge my post. I wish you the best of luck in this crazy MT world! :-)

That's too funny for words!
meant sending work outside the hospital until I read the one about overseas. I almost squirted my orange juice out my nose!

Yes, indeedy. Once again, this time with feeling...

Outsourcing - having another transcription company do the work (regardless of location).

Offshoring - the work leaves the *shores* (get it?) of these good ol' United States.

Did that sound mean? I didn't mean for it to sound mean - it's just funny to me.
thanks for the kind words :)
so I don't know their tax ID number or whatever.
Correction - "a few WORDS"....
nm
Thank you for your kind words.

What I was trying to do with my original post was spark some healthy dialog, and boy did I!   It’s clear that few are without an opinion on this one, from those who took my fanciful VR language as a true and scary representation of what VR produces each and every time (yike!) to the more Borg-minded crowd (Resistance is futile.  You will be assimilated.)   My point – and I actually do have one – is in the title of  Judge Judy Sheindlin’s book:  Don’t Pee on My Leg and Tell Me It’s Raining.  I don’t necessarily see VR as an intentional move by our MTSOs to cheat us out of money, but I also don’t see them taking the 30-50% cut in profits they are expecting us to suffer.

Somewhere between steeling ourselves for a career move that includes saying  *Do you want fries with that?* and allowing ourselves to get all borgified  by our employers’ switch to VR there must be a middle ground.  I just have not thought of it yet.   Anybody have an idea what that might be?  Instead of just bitching and catastrophizing about this, I would like some constructive suggestions for peaceful resistance, should employer tell me my account is switching next month.

Don’t put words in my mouth, what I am saying is
I would rather have $5.00 than absolutely no money at all. Anyone who does not understand this has something wrong with them. I do not work for that but she quit her job without anything else no now 0 money. Now do you understand?
Thanks so much for your kind words.. You know I am
examining my heart today, and I think that I need to look to work elsewhere anyway. I really don't love being told that immediately I have to do this, even if it is a learning curve, and I need to be patient and it is a great company and all that.
I just don't like this vulnerable feeling when it comes to paying for my car and my rent and I guess that the fear is turning into disappointment and wanting to move on. I am having a delayed reaction the same people had last week. I need to move on now, my instinct says. When told that the industry is changing and I have to change with it, well, the bills stay the same and go up, so if the 2 don't meet then it's time for me to either work more hours doing straight transcription or get out of the industry altogether which takes time to do having done nothing but this my whole life.
I do believe I am going to spend today trying to get IC work for this payperiod so I can pay bills while I get a solid job with benefits for the next paycheck. Sometimes things like this make us examine our hearts to see what is important. To me providing for my kid is most important, and I am afraid that over-rides my loyalty to a particular place of employment. I never considered myself to give up, but I am tired of stressing and being uneasy. Need to take the control back, because nobody's gonna pay those bills but me!
Her words were to see how their health is
was. I never saw the statement about age in her statement at all.

As far as that goes, again sickness, ill health and death are not only played out in older people. I see absolutely nothing wrong with a company, especially as she was stating, in a high income category wanting to know about a person's health if it is their policy and you want to be hired. there. I find nothing in her statement that even hints at any kind of discrimination.
