ahhh yes (yawn) the "downtime rate". Try to figure out THAT formula!

2 hog prints will be equal or less than your monthly salary x 2 eyelashes and a pimple = downtime rate.  What?! you don't understand?  Well, just wait for the check.  No, we have nothing in writing for that formula.

YAWN!

*yawn*

. . . sorry, did you say something?  I had my MTSO filter on.

If you've never received perks or praise, you must really suck at what you do.

Have a wonderful life.   Buh bye.

yawn

Yeah.  That'll make everything better.  Don't work with your peers to decide on some standards, on terms that are unacceptable, just play musical chairs or abandon the career you've put years into for another because you're afraid to speak up.

Watching door hit you in the behind.

Yawn
Change your name with every post, you're still easily identifiable and your rants are really becoming tiresome. I'll be skipping anything with misspellings, capitalization, and horrid grammar in the subject line, as I know that will be YOU.

Get another job already. This song of yours is O-L-D.

You know what I get with your formula for 750 lph on VR,
is a get a vision of a really recklessly and speedily edited reports.  Nobody could or should run that at highest speed on all reports constantly- or whatever it is you do to make that lph that consistently.  I use eScription too and have for the past 7 years, no way can you accurately edit at that speed regardless of how good the dictators are, how well the VR comes up or what platform you are on.
No, I will never quit being an MT advocate. Yawn!
x
I don't know their exact formula but

I do know that some national companies only check the reports that are sent to QA once they have cleared an MT to transcribe without every report being checked.  Long ago when I worked in a hospital they selected random reports done through the month and did QA on only those reports.  Someone else could help you out better with that, I'm sure.

I think if I had worked with those MTs and they still weren't thinking for themselves, I'd get rid of them and find someone who will.  Have you considered looking for MTs at this board or another MT board?  That would involve using wav files so long distance MTs could access the dictation over the internet, but when I have to expand beyond my local trusted MTs I plan to look on the MT boards.  There are a lot of good MTs out there, and a lot of not so good ones.  You just gotta find the good ones!

formula for check sent for errors on DQS
did anyone from MQ call to ask how their check amount for the errors in calculations on DQS work was derived at?  i sent an email to the payroll dept in our region when I first got the check and she responded by telling me that she had sent it on to corporate and that they would get back to her on how to handle this.  i get a call today from corporate and i was given an incomplete explanation -- IMAGINE THAT!!  I was told that the average that they had obtained after taking a sampling of reports and coming up with the average was not going to be furnished by MQ to the MT.  i requested from that person to find out for me why.  it's my money and i want to be able to see how they came up with that figure.  Why shouldn't I be able to have that info as it pertains to me and my money so that I can take my own number of lines and multiply it and come with hopefully the same figure.  Need I explain that??  oh, and i was told that I was the only MT that had requested that information -- that all the other MTs who had questions about the check were satisfied with the answers that were told them. i told this person that i was tired of being told that I "was the only one" who had the problem and that no one else had brought it up.  they try to make you feel like you're the only who has brought up such a thing and act like you're being out of line for doing so.
line count - formula???
Starting a new account that handles line count differently.  What is the formula used to figure a 65-character line count with spaces?  I realize that there is some difference than the actual characters per document if you divide it by 65-character line.  Any specific formula?  Any help is appreciated.
LINE COUNT FORMULA?????

Is there any set formula used for counting lines?  I am starting a new account that pays 65-character line with spaces, includes headers and footers, margins, etc.  It is in a word document, so wondering what formula/equation, if there is one, to use?

what do you mean "toggle over." and what is your formula for adding it up? Help!

Ahhh, ok, thanks! :-) nm

Ahhh, thank you! nm :)

ahhh.... venter
She or he sounds like a venter to me. It's best just to let it go. If you know the truth then don't worry about it. I think the owner has a good reputation. I have heard only good things about her. I also spoke to her ont her on the phone about the MT Trainer position. I didn't find any problems with her business practices. Just don't worry about it. But who is this me character? Someone else? And just to clarify, I have put all 3 of my initials int he name field DLK
ahhh....I don't want to work for them though.
But thanks for the info! Is that eScription work?
ahhh... maybe that's the difference
I am a hospital employee. Are you?
Ahhh ok! Thanks for the info!!
nm
Ahhh, but we do have a website! MOST COMPANIES DO!!
Period.
Ahhh... another Bay Area devotee! : ) (sm)
Yes, the climate is a huge reason why I like it here. I could live more cheaply inland, in the Central Valley, but the weather there is horrible about 98% of the time! (100+ all summer; windy in spring, with too many bugs!; windy in the fall (though better temps, at least); and pea-soup fog all winter. BLEAH.

As to what you said in your email, yes - I'm considering doing the 2nd-job thing. I would keep this one for the benefits, do the minimum line count, and then try to find a part-time IC account that could be done to fill in the gaps.
Ahhh, MTSO'er

Gotcha, I guess you're talking about some MTs, right?  We're talking about the idea of working at home versus in-house.  If you'll re-read your post, it seems to make blanket statements.  Anyway, sorry, you are entitled to your opinions.  Seems you've had some bad experiences with MTs working for you.  But some of us can balance work and family and actually insist upon it.  I have a choice if I want to work part-time or full-time hours.  But if I agree to work part-time hours, I don't want full-time work assigned to me either, and if I refuse to type that full-time work, just please don't call me one of those :)

Ahhh, the good ole days.
I must admit, reading your post automatically put a smile on my face--until it was replaced by the reality of today.

If only they'd go back to us being expected to do it and do it right or be gone. Our pay would probably increase again as well.
Ahhh, only been at it a year, that explains it.

ahhh, I see your point now, agree with that..NM

..

Ahhh..I got the pb now...flew over my head for a sec

for MQ STAT employees tier rate applies to ME rate as well and how calcluated?
for a STAT MQ employee:  Does anyone know if the tier rate is going to be applied to the ME rate as well or are they going to go with the 80% of the MT rate for each tier level?  If the tier rate doesn't apply as well to the ME rate then going by the 80% of the MT rate is less than if the tier rate would be applied.  I'm sure that MQ is going to go by whatever keeps money in their pockets.  Guess this is a question for the supervisor tomorrow.
Their line rate was less than my current nat'l rate, even with mucho experience. nm

VR rate is 1/2 rate of traditional typing,I believe it is 4 cents line.

I took that to mean you can get to that rate after 1600 lines and that is not the starting rate.
:
Webmedx ASR rate is 70% of your regular line rate. sm
So if you are on a 9 cpl account, you get 6.3 CPL plus any bonus / incentives / shift differential.
From the current editing rate not typing rate
.
I know how to figure it,
how do you qualify for it? The account I work on never offers that, the most they offer is an additional 0.05 per line when they are behind.
Let's figure this out. sm
I am currently working for 10.5 cents per line, equipment furnished, and I get two weeks PTO per year, plus health insurance for $21.00 a payday and that insurance includes health/dental/vision/life, and direct deposit.  Compare that to FN, no insurance, no bennies, no direct deposit and, at most, 10 cents per line.  There are several small MTSOs out there who provide benefits and pay as I am describing here.  Why in the world would you work for a company who provides no benefits at all, not even direct deposit, for 10 cents a line?  I just don't get it.
I don't think anybody has been able to figure that out yet
You'll find a few people posting that it didn't affect their line count, but the majority of posters did lose big going to the platform.
Nothing to figure out, really. sm
They no longer pay for demographic info, headers (client letterhead), footers (signature line and DD/DT block/initials), CCs, etc. Add that all up times each page and that is a lot of lost lines, possibly hundreds of lines per day.
GO FIGURE!!! That is what is
what is wrong with our society, no one wants responsibility for there own actions. If you screwed up, and I know for a fact that some of you were not doing your work, because i am the MT that turned you in, then take responsibilty for your screw up. Quit blaming everyone at Shapin for your laziness. And now that your gone, I have your job and I absolutely love it. So I guess I owe you a thank you.
Not sure how you figure that one
Never heard this one before - trying to convert minutes to lines!

.9/line is not a bad rate, depending of course on the specifics of the work (type, difficulty of dictators, TAT, etc.

200 minutes could actually be very few lines if the dictator is a pauser... or a lot of work if they dictate like Robin Williams talks...

Ask for more details.

How do you figure your cpl?
How do you figure your cpl for editing?  I don't get it.
D&L - go figure
Poor them, to hear them tell it, every body is lying on them and telling stories. I do not understand how they have Transcriptionist working for them. I have not heard a one that has gotten a check on time and one that they know will clear. Living from paycheck to paycheck and fearing a bounced check would scare me off for sure. Yes they have client's - they do not know what is going on - but I say let the owners type the reports, for sure the clients would not last a week with her skills. Everybody complains, but they remain there - can I just ask why - i would rather work for less than work and worry about a check.
here's the way I figure it

Okay, so 45 minutes of dictation equal 2700 seconds, say 1 hour per 1000-1200 seconds on average typing between 150 to 200 lph, counting referencing time and proofing time, I would say about 2-2-1/2 hours average of actual transcribing time.

It would seem that if you can't figure sm
out correctly how to calculate $25 an hour, you're not going to be able to reach that.
how do you figure that? If i'm doing less
the company makes less off of me as well.

Cheating out of money would more likely come from charging the client by the line and paying the Transcriptionist per report, among other ways.
Hon, if you can't figure out how to
do that, you need to work on your computer skills - LOL.
I figure...
...NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS! I would assume that I am doing such a good job that they have no reason to contact me.
how do you figure that?
Just curious
what I can't figure out is why any sm
interviewer/supervisor/owner or whatever would even tell that story to an employee much less a new-hire. I sometimes wonder if folks just do that to make themselves sound important. Personally I could not care less what goes on with other employees. I do my work, do it well and expect a paycheck. If that doesn't happen, then I am outta there.
you can figure that one out. Just figure sm
out what you make working at home and the number of hours your put in to make it. Compare that with the hourly wage in a facility. Most facilities still pay hourly and some have incentive plans.
I figure around
30-35% for all taxes.. For myself, I figure I'm saving gas, clothes, time, and car repairs by being an IC at home.
Trying to figure out why you would come here with those problems.
nm
I can figure out the percentage, but...
How does one go about figuring their estimated tax?

According to what I've read on the IRS site, we have to pay estimated taxes. Well, great. I can estimate my income at what I'm making now, just starting out, but I don't see my income staying this low, so I would eventually be underpaying. I could estimate it at a higher amount, but what if I don't make as much as I think or hope I will? I can see where getting a refund is a good thing, but I'm more worried about underpaying.

Do you pay the tax on what you've ACTUALLY made in a quarter (it kind of sounds like it) or do you go about estimating your income, say you figure you'll make $20k a year, and put 25% of that away?

Confused.
Just figure out average of how much (sm)
you have made per hour for the last, say 24 weeks.  If you consistently make under $15, I'd go for the salary.  If I was over most of the time, I'd go for production.  Figure out what would be a fair amount of time to go back.  Good luck.
You WHAT???? That's your paycheck. You should figure it out on your own. sm
Do they hold your hand all day too?
