laptop point and click errors

Posted By: sumi on 2009-06-19
In Reply to: right, the laptop the doctors use for pointing - ()

Think I'll go to law school and get rich on the point and click errors in medical reports. My doctor just joined those ranks and when I went in for check, he wanted me to get on an antibiotic, and I agreed. He pointed and clicked to his laptop, sent it to the pharmacist electronically and when I picked up my prescription it was for a seizure medication and not an antibiotic. They both start with a k. I thought the pharmacist made a mistake, but no turned out it was the doctor and his point and click was wrong. He was really upset when I took it back to his office for correction. More and more of this will be happening. Check your meds before taking.

point and click
What is point and click?
My old pediatrician had point and click EMR.
I would wait in the waiting room anywhere from 30-60 minutes waiting to be seen and then when I finally made it into the exam room with my kid, he would spend more time on the computer than he would with my child. I felt ignored most of the visit.

I can't tell you how many times that computer crashed in the middle of the appointment. Then I had to sit and listen to him complain to the nurses about it and ask them how to fix it (of course, they had no clue, so they all sat around the thing just pressing buttons). After a year of this (my child was in and out frequently due to a chronic illness), I decided enough was enough and started calling around to find a pediatrician that didn't use an EMR.

I love our new doc. I actually get to sit and talk with him during each visit and my child was finally diagnosed properly and has had no health issues since. Makes me wonder if he would have been properly diagnosed at the other clinic if they weren't spending so much time pointing and clicking.
Quality disconnect with SR and EMR point and click
I am reading here about different companies and how they nit pick over commas, semicolons, etc. Then I am remembering the reports I see coming from front end speech recognition and EMR point and clicks and I am just bowled over at the disconnect I am sensing here. Has anyone seen an unedited speech recognition report or EMR point and click report that hasn't been edited by a qualified MT lately? What a mess! It seems to me that quality is being sacrificed in the name of (fill in the blank here with whatever reason they are eschewing transcription services). I wonder if they will ever look back.
In support of dictation over EMR point and click

From Dr. Murdoch at http://www.emrupdate.com/forums/t/20723.aspx

I feel that the current generation of EMRs are terrible.

Virtually unusable.

and the people that aren't using them are probably right: wait til they get better.

I almost think EMRs are a dead concept.

I think everyone should keep trying but I am left knowing a fax machine is more useful to a doctor than any EMR.  Sad but true.

I'll give you an example of how EMRs are failing.  A consultant sends me a note (generated by their point and click EMR (which has lots of all normal clicks).  The end result is a 3 page monstrosity, filled with text everywhere, very little formatting.

I just realized something ....  I AM READING HIS BILLING INFORMATION !!!  This is the absurd crap GENERATED FOR HIS BILLING.  It is addressed to me .. BUT ITS FOR HIS insurance company !

How little far we have come !

I think dictation is superior to the vast majority of EMR notes.

we will never 'type" yes or no, this is EMR, point & click, the doctors do it...nm

I usually don't point out spelling errors but the one

Yes, MTTest does cut you off if you've made too many errors up to that point.

Don't do it. Click on your original post and towards the bottom middle click
on related messages and you'll find lots of stuff, one of it good.
Click on State Boards to the left then click on PA
nm
click on your post and then scroll down a bit and click

on related messages.  You'll find posts there and also there have been posts within the last couple of weeks if you'll scroll down.

There is nothing good to say about SoftScript.

click on your post and then click on the related
messages link and you'll find all the bad, but don't think there is any good to be had.
Just click on Play then click on Play again to pause dictation
I'm working in Bayscribe right now and that appears to be the only way to do it.

Play to play
Play again to pause
Play again to start play again

Hope that helps.
I use a laptop
I will doing my first working trip next week, 2000 miles to California. Will let you knoow how it all works out.
Laptop
Can I ask what type of laptop you bought?? Also, do you have a raised keyboard?

Thinking of getting laptop.

Thanks!
Laptop
I was recently hired by Medquist and haven't received my software yet.  I'm considering purchasing a laptop computer so I can work when I'm not at home.  Does anyone use a laptop or know if it's even possible to do so with their software?  Any info would be appreciated.  Thanks so much.
Laptop
Thank you. I just got a new one for Christmas too. I would have to use an external keyboard, absolutely cannot type on a regular one never mind a laptop keyboard!
laptop
I have worked on Bayscribe with a laptop before. It was a Dell laptop with Windows XP. It worked fine. I connected to internet with an ethernet cord in a hotel - I didn't try it with a wireless card.
Laptop
I replied earlier to the question of WM Company Laptop possibility here, but do not know where it went so will try again.  Yes, there is a person that I know of that uses a WM Laptop which makes it very convenient for travel and setup and teardown.  She said it sure beats the heck out of trying to pack and lug the big ole box around!.  I think your request might be looked upon in a more favorable light if you are a high producer?
You can use a laptop with any company - SM
if the operating system is compatible with their platform. I don't work for Medquist and never have, but most companies only work with XP and are not yet compatible with Vista, so you may want to keep that in mind.
Question about laptop
Do any of you work exclusively on a laptop?
working on a laptop
I work on a laptop exclusively abd I love it and I use an external keyboard and external mouse.  Of course, I only do private accounts.  Not digital.  One is from doctors notes and tapes.  The other one just tapes.  Not digital.  No internet needed.
right, the laptop the doctors use for pointing
and clicking in their data. Hospitals were the first to switch over to this technique.
Doctors even take their laptops along when visting patients in their beds and pointing and clicking in their findings.

Webmedx--laptop? traveling
Anybody here use a laptop with Webmedx and travel? I'd love to be able to get away from home but not take time off work. I guess I could haul the PC around, but that wouldn't be as easy as a laptop.

thanks!
Anyone work for a company that they can use a laptop for and do while traveling..
With school soon out, we plan on doing traveling, but my currently job's platform/foot pedal is not compatible with my computer as it uses either a 15-pin or a USB and my current job requires a 9-pin foot pedal thus I can only use it at home and wouldnt be able to work while we travel. Does any know of any companies with a platform and/or foot pedal setup that allows for this. Thanks in advance
Mine does. Just loaded it on my laptop this week.
nm.
My kids' doctor's office also use laptop sm
They also use the laptops at my kids' doctor's office.  It is basically a program where they check/uncheck items on a list.  I have had the PE printed out for school sports physicals and it is pretty short (even for my son who has had a broken femur - no mention of that in the note).  I also recently lost an account with no warning to EMR.  The docs will be doing their own notes now and I am left to try to find another job so I can pay my bills and maybe buy a few Christmas presents.  Most of the MTSO's I have sent my resume to do not even bother to send an e-mail.  I know I will eventually have to look into another line of work but can't bring myself to do it until my kids are out of school.  Sad situation all around.
Anyone currently working on a laptop with Bayscribe platform

Anyone working on the Bayscribe platform (MDI-MD).

What operating system?  Vista or XP.

What kind of laptop?  I have a USB footpedal, dialup currently, but thinking about the wireless connection or air card for my laptop, and want to get a laptop that will work smoothly with this platform.

Looking for a used or refurbished one.  Any ideas on where to get a used one?

thanks.

I use my laptop with Vista on it. It works fine
for the account I do and the platform I'm on (DQS)
You can plug in a USB keyboard into a laptop or use a docking station.

not gott.... GOTTA (I hate my laptop keyboard..fingers are too fat)

You are only a click away. Wake up!

Click on your own message and
There is an explanation there.
when you click on any message, there is a bar above that says (sm)
report message, chat now, back and home. click chat now and it brings u to a chat room.
I think if you click on the post with
the arrow next to it there is a message inside that tells you where it has been moved.  Also, any responses to the original post do not follow it to the new board.
Click on the Link
When I clicked on it, it took me to the Job Bank, and stange as it seems they had that listed as the company name, Fastphalanges. Hopefully the administrator can shed some light.
You should be able to right click on the files in

You could also double click the files.  Make sure express scribe is open even though it shoudl automatically open express scribe.

To email them, you have to click on where it says .... SM
NC acute care hospital employee position in blue letters.  This will bring up an email screen that you can type in, then send.  HTH
When you get to the website, click on sm
skip intro and then the enter keys at the bottom of the screen on the next page, under the blog link. I just did it to make sure I had the steps right :) You can also apply by emailing the recruiter at Apply@KeystrokesMT.com.
If you will click on your post and down near
the bottom click on the blue related messages you'll bring up other posts about them.  Just from glancing at them they are not a company that I would work for.
Actually, e-mail is not enclosed, have to click on my name
to send me one (in case you didn't know).  Talk soon!!
Click on the "contact us" link at the top...
and then click on the underlined contact us and it will open an e-mail to the recruiter. Yes, they hire part time. Good luck!
QT Medical has a job ad, when you click the link
to learn more it says something about offshore entities need not apply.  They offshore big time and there has been an Indian presence in the company for a long time.
I click on the related messages and there
are about a dozen.  If you will click on one of those links there are usually several other posts where others have responded to the same questions you are asking.  Someone has started a private Transtech board within the last few weeks, but there is tons of stuff about Transtech on MTStars.
Recent info is there too. You can click on

related messages in your original post and pull up most recent info and then can do an archives search too.  If you click on the archive posts there are multiple posts within the original post usually.

Of course you want the most current info, but for companies like Transtech or Keystrokes someone asks about these companies several times a week so there is a ton of current information on them.

www.transmdi.com and then click on Contact Us on

Click [See Related Messages]
for recent posts.
In Wordscript, go up to the top and click on the icon that looks like
a hand writing on a piece of paper and then select the date or range of dates you want to see.  Finally, click on line count. Hope this helps.
If you click on your message, near the bottom you will

see in blue - see related messages or something similar.  Click on it and it will show you the most recent posts.  You do need to use your own judgement because management posts too and of course their posts are all favorable and basically say the same things, about how the MT wasn't reliable, couldn't do the work, poor quality, etc.

I was viciously attacked a month or so ago.  I spoke the truth and the person(s) that posted don't know me to make the statements they did.

I worked for SS and it was the worst place I've ever worked.  I won't repeat it here, but it is all well documented in the archives.

Or you could right click and file and "open with"..
and then nselect Express Scribe.
Click link up top called
Then put in your company information. Sorry I don't know anything about TTS, but good luck with your search!

Hope this helps :-)
and if you click on that post asking, you will see response under.
