TransTech has continued this LOW/NO work for more than a year now with

only promises for new accounts, while losing accounts, overhiring.  This low/no work situation has been going on TOO long !

We can be sure that if management's/supes/QA/inhouse employees' paychecks were affected by this continuing LOW WORK situation, something would be done IMMEDIATELY by management.  But they still get their bonuses, raises, bennies, trips to LV, etc.

So, so, so sad that this excellent company has lost respect for their MT's by NOT providing work for them on a consistent basis, yet demanding a schedule !

There would be no Transtech if their MT's were not working to keep accounts.  How do you think, mgmt, you would be able to keep your paychecks/jobs without your MT's ? ? ?

The *sweetie* just does not show respect for me.  MONEY DOES !  Jobs coming into my queue makes me money !

and the scariest thing is - doctors seldom if ever look at their dictations -
assume it is okay - it had been in the past.  They are not aware of any changes. It's not only a cost issue - it is pure ignorance.

Being Exploited Continued
To MT/Biller: I also have tried cutting back on the garbage, but then I end up just hurting myself because I lose money. Either way I lose: Struggle through the lousy assigned jobs and make some money (but not what I should be making or was making before), or don't do the lousy assigned jobs and lose even more money. Either way they get what they want and I don't. Any suggestions would be very welcome.
Being Exploited Continued
Thank you for your thoughts. I actually had a job offer from Transtech but turned it down because the account they wanted me on was 80% VR. If you have good feelings about the company you will be going to in October and you feel comfortable sharing the name in confidence (if you think they might have something for me full-time), perhaps you could e-mail me. Please let me know if this is possible and I will send you my e-mail. Otherwise, I totally understand and good luck to you also.
IC status, continued

>>>This is what I meant above by how a company is saying work this shift as an IC at this line rate.  As an IC, I have the right to work when I choose to work, not when my clients choose.  If my clients want to make demands (and yes I have one client that is an MTSO), then I would become an employee at that point and they must pay my taxes.

You’re half correct. What you would become is a statutory employee (SE), not a “regular employee,” like you would be if you worked in an office. In the case of the SE, the company and/or individual they provide service for would be required to pay 7.5% of the social security tax, but that’s as far as it goes. You would still need to withhold your own federal tax in addition to other taxes like Medicare. Furthermore, and the law used to state that anyone who works exclusively for a single company/individual is classified as a SE, by law.

The 20 guidelines I posted here and on the Main Broad are merely a framework. Each individual should speak with a lawyer who specializes in Employer/Employee law or directly with the IRS.

>>>I've seen people post as employees saying they have no work during their shift and are asked to flex, which is also wrong.  It's just crazy how this profession continues to be used and abused and now there are MTs convinced it's okay because they need a job.  It's just a neverending cycle.  JMO

I don’t agree that (all) MTs are convinced it’s okay. They’re simply not fully aware of the laws, or they know the laws but feel they’re stuck “between a rock and a hard place.” Either they “agree to the terms” (of the contract) or they won’t be able to pay their bills. But, it’s still the element of control and the MT *still* has the final say:  “I agree to the Tues-Sat shift for 8 cpl.”

There are two other issues that come to mind. First, the line rate. An IC determines what constitutes a line, and informs the client accordingly. Usually, they choose the software they wish to use (i.e. Sylcount), but sometimes the MTSO will tell them, “We use Abacus and count spaces and returns only; no formatting codes” and that’s okay. However, if you have IC status you should NEVER let the MTSO do the line calculation on their end and then tell you how many lines you’ve transcribed. Doing so gives the MTSO “the element of control,” which makes you their employee.

The second issue is a little trickier and it concerns the “application process.” Again, what applies to the IC also applies to the MTSO. When the MTSO approaches a client (i.e. Osh Begosh Hospital) to offer their service, they try their best to sell their service and secure a contract in the process. They do not fill out a job application nor do they take a transcription test. That’s what an employee does, not an IC. The IC provides references, and that’s it.

In the final analysis, knowing the law is one thing and adhering to the law is another. You can tell the service what the law is, and they can just as easily tell you that your services are not needed. And, unfortunately, that’s pretty much where it’s at right now and where it will continue to remain.

I was out of work at Spheris the second day I was there, and it has continued. SM
I'm sure it depends on a lot of things, but I am looking elsewhere.
Continued from above -- and yes I have multiple accounts...nm

Heartland Information Services-to be continued...

I requested this morning at Heartland to send out my article that I wrote in response to this layoff to employees at the company, but I was told no.  I was going under the premise of the right of free speech.  Hmm, wonder why they don't want me to send it out??!!

They have been reading this board, so keep up the continued support, we could sure use it!!

Thank you,

Mary Kirkpatrick

my first year I made 16k. Doubled that second year. Going on year 6 with (sm)

two local accounts I earned 23,000.00 and a national I earned 35,400... 58,400 this year.  Don't ask me how many hours, though, I really have no idea.  I'm pretty motivated.  (When people ask me how many hours I work a week I reply as many as it takes  I'd say 40-50/week.  I am also a fitness instructer and personal trainer, about 5 hours a week or so.  Decent money (sometimes under the table!) but mostly I just do it for fun and to be social and wear cute work-out clothes.

that first year was a rough one... but I consider it part of my education.

I'm pretty motivated.

Last year, there was a letter sent that told us what we earned the previous year. sm
In the past, it has been all or nothing; if you did not hit the lines for full time for the year, you did not get PTO. I talked to my lead this morning about a last-minute vacation and she told me that the yearly packets are going out in a week or so and that the new policy will acrue PTO by the pay period or month. I like that a lot better, but she also made it sound like they are upping the amount of lines needed to acrue PTO. I normally get between 15 and 20,000 lines per pay period, so I am sure that will be fine but I am worried about the periods that have lower volumes, like most of January every year.
Webmedx lets you carry them from year to year sm
You can accrue up to 140 hours (I think) before you stop the accrual process. Don't have to use it all in one year.
I would stick it out, most places are slow now through the end of the year every year (nm)

Last year $36K part time, going to make more this year full time BUT sm

I AGREE it IS getting harder to make money.  I used to make $24 very part time 10 years ago and now...well it is Word and platforms versus WP5.1.  I got 7.5 cents a byte line then and I get 9.5 cents a character line now.  That IS a huge different in point of fact.

OH I WANT MY WORDPERFECT 5.1 BACK!!!!! Bwaaah!

Have been with them for over a year...sm
and have no complaints. Pay is always on time and they have direct deposit. I have rarely ran out of work on my main account, but when I do I have a backup account to work on. There are incentives offered often as well. I don't see a high turnover rate...the reason they are hiring new MTs is because they have new accounts. Good luck in your job search!
Been on it for over a year and
still struggling. My lines went from 1,500 to 2,000 a day down to 800 to 1,000 if I am lucky. Still haven't found the courage to quit :(
Yes, they were. This year and I believe one other year. nm

Last year
Last year when I worked there I live in Texas and had BCBS of Tennessee through them since they are located in TN. Just FYI. Good luck!
Well over a year..nm
xx
first year pay
I was lucky to make 15000 the first year.

I am making it now but hard in the beginning.
Wow, a year?

That's great!!  I know of one that is $3000.00! You have a great deal there.

Been with them almost a year
I've been with SPI/Cymed for almost a year (at the beginning of March) and the benefits seem to be okay, but I have never had to use them. When I first started with them last March, it was still just Cymed. I did hear that since they merged with SPI that the benefits were supposed to be less expensive when they go to get them again this year.
No, it's DURING second year (after 1)
nm
From 1 year ago...
Left because of having little to know work.  Seems like they way overhired.  They might do better now as I am seeing more than just clinic work
It's over a year old.
nm
Been with them over 1 year now - sm
as a statutory employee. I would say scheduling is flexible depending on your account and what you and your manager work out. They have been an excellent company to work for and the people there are terrific. If you need support they are right there with you and if you don't they don't bug you and let you run. Their pay is very comparable and always on time. I plan on retiring with this company!
year-old
{Bksp}-year-old
year-old
You would type 41 yo for the expansion to work.
year-old
But I use ESP expander. What I have started to do is build expansions with every age as they come up in reports. For instance if patient is a 41-year-old, I make an expansion of 41yo. I figure I will only have to do it around 105 times at most! If it turns out I have already made that expansion, I then create 41yof or 41yom expansions for female or male patient.
This was from a little over a year ago
so not sure if it's changed, but someone said it was about $75 per month for single coverage (just yourself).  Not sure about the employee plus spouse or family coverage amount.
Nothing this year . Not yet anyway nm
nm
Yes, have been there a year.
They pay based on a 65-character line with spaces included. They pay more than most other nationals and care very much about their employees and treat them very well. They are always looking for ways to improve to make us happy. I have 2 accounts and have never even come close to running out of work on either one, even during the major holidays. I have always made excellent money there. They pay by direct deposit on the 1st and 15th of the month. They have been continuously growing since I first started and have been constantly getting new accounts and expanding the ones that they already have. Hope this helps.
Every year it is where is my W2. They have until
1/31 to mail them.  If I get mine early great, but I don't start looking for it until the first part of February.
You will pay the same but just throughout the year
If you made that much as an employee, you just would not have had as much in your pocket as they would have withheld it for you throughout the year.  As an IC you need to me strick enough to do that or have your husband hold out more to pay for your income.  You will only pay 7.5% more in the social security which you should somehow be able to find enough deductions to make that up.   But again, have your husband with hold your taxes.   You pay the same it is how you pay it.   Pretend you are the employee and withold 20% like they would from your check and put it in a separate account.  Then you have enough to pay your taxes.  Again it is not MORE taxes it is just how you pay the taxes and being able to put that money aside for it.
I have been there about a year
They are nice people to work for and I enjoy my TM.  We have plenty of work and I heard we are starting a very large hospital in a few weeks.  The health insurance is with Aetna and it is a good plan with a low deductable, plus they pay by direct deposit every two weeks.  I came from another company as an IC and always seemed to be chasing a check or two, so having direct deposit is nice.  I would say that as a company I am happy at MedScribe.
I have been there for a year and never got one
I was started at 9 cpl when I started a year ago. I was never told anything about a raise then.
$20,000 last year for PT
I work about 20 hours a week, and I took probably 2 weeks off from work total.
$37K last year, should do about $48K this year if it keeps up. sm

How?  Expanders...normals you build up yourself, and sitting down for long periods of time.

And so you know, I make that on 8.5 to 9.5 cpl depending on the account and which of my jobs I am doing.  I work two PT situations.

Really? A year ago..

It was due to previous owner. Things are quite different now.

I would suggest to post your resume again.

Yes, but only for the first year...

PTO is earned as follows at WMX:

Less than 1 year = 1.077 hours per PP = 3.5 days

1-5 years = 3.077 hous per PP = 10 days

6-12 years = 4.616 hours per PP = 15 days

Over 12 years = 6.154 hours per PP = 20 days

The PTO covers your vacation and sick time.  In addition to your PTO, all full-time employees are given 6 paid holidays, New Year's, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Admittedly, the first year's PTO is horrible and may be the worst in the business, but hopefully that will change before too much longer, especially if they plan to lure new MTs to the company.

A year ago maybe, but not now.

It was that way last year
Yes, they deliberately kept us in the dark.  They knew accounts were leaving, and wouldn't tell us until the day before they left.  They knew we were changing platforms, but wouldn't tell us when.  They'd offer to train on other accounts, then supposedly run into red tape getting you started and we'd go broke waiting for answers.  They never told the truth and they always passed the buck.  The only communications they didn't ignore were their own - when they needed something they felt it was OK to call you 24/7 and get you to come on and type a handful of reports.  Forget working a schedule, there was never any work, you were always supposed to flex, and they'd always try to track you down on your day off so you could type one or two reports out of TAT.  But when you needed something from them...silence, or outright lies.
5,000 a year????? LOL

you are showing your true colors, which is very immature.  I know slang, but I do not use it when I'm conversing with adults.  I have a kid that I am trying to teach not to talk like Britney Spears because you can see where it gets you?  Negative attention.

Furthermore, I have more important things to do like make money.  Please let's not go there with salary, because you'd be blown away honey!  Feel better?  I sure don't; I think you are very immature and I laugh at the likes of you!  I agree it is dog eat dog, and I also think you need to grow up!  Have a great day!  I allow no one to steal my PEACE!

I'm with FN for 1 year...
I can't say I agree with the things you state in your post, as I have never encountered such problems.

Files download just fine for me, iType works fine, QA doesn't bug me...is there even QA/QA feedback? I work at night and have not run out of work or low on work. My supervisor is an absolute doll. When I do have an issue, I send an e-mail or give a call, and my supervisor handles it.

I'm sorry you've had such a negative experience with FN.

I guess it just proves what I feel is a good fit for me, is not necessarily a good fit for you (general you).

Good luck to you.
Yes. it was about a year ago
I think that she was afraid she would be one of those laid off. Maybe it's just me but I would never work for anyone who offshored or partnered with another company who did. To each her own. If people can do it, fine for them, I can't.
It has been over a year, but yes they do pay for
Any questions you have, ask Jan Clay, the recruiter.  She is exceptionally nice in my opinion.  I had to leave due to a death in the family.  She was very kind.
Every year we go through this. They don't have
to be mailed until 1/31.  If you have your last pay stub doesn't matter when W2 go out.
MDI did not as of last year -- sm

Maybe it's just the companies that provide equipment doing the checks.

So do you really think in one year we will not - sm
have jobs? Somehow I do not see that happening. Maybe in 10-20 years but not this decade.
FT up to 120 hrs a year; PT up to 40 hrs a year.
