Serving Over 20,000 US Medical Transcriptionists

one question...

Actually, I work for a great company now...but

if there was a 'mass exit,' wouldn't that just give some of these companies what they want:  A very good excuse to use overseas MTs (extremely CHEAP labor)?  I worked for a company, who only had a certain percentage of work going to India before I left (so they said, as they were trying to make it like they were doing US MTs a favor by giving them work here first), yet the overseas MTs were chomping at the bit for more work, and my bet is they were setting themselves up to send more there, as they weeded out the higher-paid MTs.

Spheris is a great example, as their overseas company (which this has been posted before in detail) is comprised of a whopping 4000 employees, not as MTs, but in other aspects (this is from Advance magazine)...wouldn't they love that chance?

Also, any time I spoke up in the union (medical record clerk job I started with in regards to work issues), all the so-called supporters who leave me standing alone, and would all 'disappear' and deny there were any problems when it came time to stand-up for anything.

For every one of us who would stand up for ourselves, you have about twice as many who would disagree and cop to the attitude we should shut up and just be 'lucky to have jobs.'

As much as I agree with you on most counts, also technology is here whether or not we like it.  Look at all the empty factories (we live next to an empty steel mill, and a Ford motor plant) with the strongest unions ever, and these people got displaced with progress.

We can fight, but you are going to have doctors in med school not learning how to dictate, but learning how to use the computers to fill out templates, which some are even doing now.  Future doctors will probably not even know how to dictate, they will simply fill in data from a generic form.

Until this country (hopefully) turns around (in my opinion) and starts giving back to the 'little guy' rather than just taking and leaving us with nothing (and how we should give up our own lifestyles for the common good, which is a dangerous trend) we will all be on social programs, working only for the government, which is owned by the rich cooperations.

(Whew, I apologize up-front for any mistakes)

It is great to see some passion, and I, for one, would support anything that would help me keep my job, and help me to thrive, not just survive as I am doing now...but WHERE do we start?
