other hospitals in houston are back

A friend works for a different hospital in Houston and said they have been back up to full speed for 3 days now. So just seems odd they are not all back up to full speed. Maybe their hurricane preparedness was not as heavy duty?

Hospitals! and Clinics! I said are who will bring it back

individual practitioners.

If you like to switch back and forth all day long between 5 hospitals
All with very different account specifics then it may be the place for you.
Some hospitals are actually bringing transcription back in house.
I have heard of more and more hospitals bringing transcription back in house and using independent contractors as well as in-house staff to get the job done. So far, it is working out well for most hospitals and, believe it or not, saving the hospital more money then sending it to a service.

Imagine that!!!

Hopefully, 90% of the health services and facilities will bring it back in house and soon!!!!
It is not the hospitals on a short TAT it is what MQ wants to make the hospitals very happy with

them. I would assume the accounts are on 12, 24 or 48 TAT but wouldnt they love having their work back no sooner than it is dictated.

Houston....
Several ads on job seeker's board.
No, it is in Houston.

Is this the Alliance out of Houston? nm

Alliance MT in Houston????

I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with this company?  Good or bad?

TIA

MediTask....NOT in Houston

There are two MediTasks.  The one I am wondering about is in Austin....I think.  Is it a nice place to work.  Pay??  Hours/shifts?  Anything would be wonderful!

i should add that this is the alliance out of Houston
:)
Is the name of the company AMT in Houston? /nm

Transtech in TX (Houston)

Medi-Task - NOT HOUSTON

From time to time, I search these boards for any posts regarding my company, MediTask.  Yeah, I know I'm late (really late) posting, but some time back someone had asked about my company, asking if it was the one in Houston, owned by Matt Read, or what.  Nope - not me.  Here's my story:

I own Medi-Task (Hill Country, TX).  I started this business in Houston in 1989, and moved to the central Texas in 1995, selling that portion of my business to Matt Read.  He didn't change the name (another whole story there) but just added -"Houston" to the end of it.  I fielded calls and inquiries for a long time until they died out.  I understand he sold that business several months ago. I've tried calling but they sometimes have a message giving a pager number (?).  Ouch... I wish people weren't confusing the two companies!

Being an MTSO, I did hear things through the grapevine to the tune of MTs not getting paid, or paid on time... I can't really comment on that because I had nothing to do with how Matt ran his business, and basically kept my nose to the grindstone where growing my business was concerned.  So, you'll have to raise those questions with someone else who was really there.

MediTask (my company) has clients in 7 states, and MTs in as many.  We're a smaller, close-knit group.  My MTs have never gone without pay, and I believe in behaving honorably in those matters.  My reputation is important to me, and I hope to never see any negative about myself or this company.  But, people are funny  - - some move from company to company peddling their wares (which are sometimes rusty), and then get bent way out of shape when their services are no longer needed.  Some are just bent on getting out of shape.  However, that said - I have MTs who have been with me a long, long time.  In fact, the first MT I ever brought on board in 1989 is working with me today. Others have been on board since '92 and '94, 99, etc.

All the MTs here are subcontractors, so I don't offer the big perks that the nationals do.  Sometimes I feel bad about that (and have lost great applicants who are looking for more), but also understand that there are pros and cons to both ways. There's not a corporate bone in my body, and I never really want all the headaches associated with handling a huge company.  I like it smaller where we all know each other's names, and work close as a team.  We actually get together whenever we can in Austin or Marble Falls - that's pretty cool.

No one asked me, but I thought I might clear the air on the "MediTask Houston or Austin or what?" posts, let ya'll (yep, I'm from Texas) know who I am, and what this company is about.  I'm proud to be associated with the people who work with me, and so lucky to have such dedicated, helpful, spirited, intelligent colleagues such as them.  I'm blessed.

Anyone who has curiosity beyond this, I'm happy to answer any questions I can.

This is happening at Transtech Houston

No work this week the majority of my shift.

Are you TT MT's out of work, too, or just me? I am wondering, as this has not happened to me since I began working for them.

In a poor house in Houston
XXX
you are saying "offshore company" - they are in Houston so...
not an offshore company - American based and American owned.

If they offshore work, I do not know.

I was there a couple of years ago when they changed from TSI to Smartmed. Their only downfall was very high insurance costs.
Yes, I live right outside of Houston. It was postmarked
Friday, if that helps.
I work for the one out of Houston but don't know anything about the Ohio TT
x
The one in Houston is the one people love
NM
Is eSmartMed the same as the SmartMed located in Houston? nm Thanks!

Anyone have any info on Trans Tech out of Houston?
x
Transtech in Houston has lots of VR work
You may have the option of working weekdays and rotate weekends, 1 one weekend per month. That is my deal but I have been here a while. Or you can work Sunday through Thursday.
That always makes it better. I do local to Houston and since I live there, it seems easier

Answers to some questions asked about TransTech out of Houston, TX

Different platforms -- Dictaphone ExText -- very clumbsy/clunky editing platform.  Probably 85% ESL now that so much VR/editing being done.

Big push for more editing, so what straight transcription that is kicked out from the voice machine is absolutely horrible on the ears!  THE TRUTH and nothing else but the truth !

Pay half for editing/VR work . . . yuk !

Different strokes for different MT's, but I work to earn a living, not for the fun of it ! Transcription used to be a FUN profession, but lacking now with all the jobs going to VR machine.

Any recent info on TransTech Medical Solutions of Houston TX.....sm
I just received an offer to test, wonder if it is worth it; I have a few offers, but nothing I am truly convinced about....how is this company to work for, and do they accept PT folk, don't care if it is IC, SE, or regular employee......and I, too, need flexibility, as long as I get my lines in and always make turnaround time.  Long time ago, there were many, many companies that operated that way; now, it seems, everyone is very rigid -- so am I, but I have to make things work with family situation, I am not only caring for 3 kids, but also 89-year-old mom part-time.  Thanx all in advance!
I worked in QA for Transcending back in 2000-2001. They were paying hourly back then. SM

The accounts weren't too horribly bad.  The reason I ended up leaving was because slowly but surely they began to inch closer and closer to paying QA by production.  When I first started, the quota was something like 30 reports a day.   We simply had to make sure that we QA'd all reports that were close to being out of TAT first and then do the rest.  Then, my supervisor left and they hired a new one who immediately called a big teleconference meeting and said we had to up production to 60 reports a day.  Then, they started counting lines.  Which was fine because they were still paying hourly.

Next, there was an MT who used VR software because she was blind - yes blind.  Again, when I first started, I was told we had to edit her entire reports because she used the VR software and we had to make sure that everything was correct and made sense.  Then, we are told only check the blanks.  I wasn't comfortable with that and I continued to completely proof every word.  Then I was called on the carpet not because I wasn't meeting the production quota, but because I was ONLY meeting the production quota.  I told them I was proofing all of the MT's work that used VR, I was told that no one ever told me to proof every word of the VR reports and that I needed to fill in blanks and move on.  When I voiced my concerns, I was told that was my job, to fill in blanks and I should move on and strive to product above the standards.  Next thing you know, rumors abounded about changing the QA staff to being paid on production.  So I left.

There just seemed to me to be too little concern for quality and more emphasis on quantity and I just didn't want to be part of company who would take money out of my pocket just to line their own and that's what they were doing by putting QA on production.  I also am not comfortable with the job of QA being thought of as a blank filler.  There is much more to the QA profession than just simply filling in blanks.

I don't know if Transcend ever did start paying QA by production, but I could see that the idea was being floated there.  Maybe there was a enough protest that they didn't change from hourly.

Good luck to you!

Phoenix Medcom- Another apply a few months back, ask to take a test and never heard back??
I applied a month or two ago, received an email from someone asking if I would take a test and said she was getting ready to go on vacation for a week, so I hurried and immediately and told her I'd love to take the test. I never heard back. I waiting thinking she went on vacation and would contact me when she got back to do the test but nothing...very strange..Just wondered if this happened to anyone else.
Has everyone heard back from Keystrokes yet regarding the email we received a while back?
Just wandering why I haven't heard any response yet.
MQ Houston office closing? I was thinking about applying but I just heard that they are closing
the Houston office soon.  What's going on with them?
I sent them an email back in August and never heard back sm
Is this company on Long Island? I checked out their website and even tried calling once. Were you successful in contacting them? All i know is that the company is owned by some doctors.

Hopefully, you will hear back. Unfortunately, I immediately heard back from MD-IT
but somehow with over 16 years of experience, I blew the test.  I was soooo disappoionted and yet pretty stunned.  I am by no means perfect but I haven't flunked a test in years.  I expected it in my early years but not this far down the road. I was so confident and they will not tell you which part you did not pass and why so it really just blew my mind.  I must have been in shock for like two hours after I got the email. Oh well, someone will want me....hopefully.  I was thinking about OSi but I don't think I could take another rejection if I never heard back.
I had the same thing happen, went back to MQ, went back to KS and could not be sm

happier.  I am on a different account then the first time and it is as if it is a different company.  I have a great lead who leaves us alone most of the time but is there when I need her.  It showed me that you can have a different experience within the same company.

I have to say that in the few weeks since they have the new office, it is much more organized probably because there are a lot of people there all the time.  I had the pleasure of speaking to the new HR manager who was HR at a hospital, got my questions answered about insurance as I am going to full time and had a live voice pick up the phone.

Not all change is bad.  This is one company that has changed for the better.

I was reading about the back up help. I would like also to have some back up work.
I am not getting anywhere near 12,000 lines this go around.  My goal is 12,000 lines each pay period.
HOW DO YOU KNOW THEY ARE GETTING RID OF THE LITTLE HOSPITALS THAT WON'T DQS?
X
So does that mean that the hospitals (sm)
(their website indicates US-based hospitals) that use this company are okay with this level of quality that the QA in India provides?  Thank you.
Is there anyone else who would like to see hospitals (or more hospitals)

offer transcriptionists the opportunity to work at home directly for them, with decent hourly pay that is at least consistent with the cost of living in the employee's particular region (and assuming that the MT would be working at home for a hospital that is in her/his region), with same employee benefits as the on-site employees?

hospitals?

i've been applying to the hospitals in the area about every 6 months, and no one is hiring.  i don't even think hospitals or doctors offices have MTs anymore...not my doctors office, and not another place i applied for a job...they have these little hand held things they dictate into that transcribe their words right there and then, they print it out, sign it, stick it in the chart, over and done.

if i weren't 10 years away from retirement, there is no way i would get into this business.  having been doing this for over 20 years, its hard to find something else.

i've got work today, but its crappy work, the national cesspool stuff, and my line count is going to be so far below the minimum requirement it won't be funny. but they shouldn't mind, since it means they won't have to pay too much at the holiday rate.

but i keep applying and looking and applying and i know something good will hopefully come my way eventually.

in the meantime, i've had to get a 2nd job, part-time, another at home MT job, with a much smaller company, all IC employees, and i'd jump ship in a second and work for them full time if that wasn't the case because they are like night and day from the place i work for full-time now, but i need benefits, am single, own my own home, and will soon be one of those old ladies living out of shopping carts on the street, eating out of dumpsters, at this rate.

Yes, I have three hospitals too
and am very pleased. My liaison is awesome. She actually treats me like a human being.
CA Hospitals
I wondered the same thing. So many of the hospitals and clinics rely on MediCal, Medicaid payments. What is going to happen? Does the state have any safety net built into the system? What if the insurance companies go belly-up and quit paying as well? Domino effect!!! Ark!
Plus hospitals don't want to buy sm
the dictation or transcription equipment, just download the completed product into their electronic medical record. How would a bunch of ICs manage that?

Not to mention getting American MTs to all agree to be ICs - personally I wouldn't want to be one. I NEED INSURANCE and want a paid vacation, which I get through my company.
St. Louis Hospitals
Hi!! I, too, would love to chat with fellow STL MTs.  Feel free to e-mail me!

I'm not sure who the other university hospitals use but

I never see anything on their sites or on CareerBuilder about hiring in-house MT's so apparently they're all using an outside service of some type.  Most hospitals I've worked in-house for use Medquist and another service at the same time (without Medquist's knowledge).

The only Phila. area hospital I've ever seen advertising for in-house MT's is Cooper in Camden, NJ (across the river from Philly).

I emailed you with some hospitals to look into - sm
I really hope it helps. In the meantime, I will get in contact with a couple of people I know to see if they hire outside their state.

I think MQ used to have them right. I guess they still have a lot of hospitals in the
Philly area.
hospitals hiring again?
Does anyone know if the east coast transcription scene is any better than other parts of the country, i.e., work?  Are east coast hospitals starting to hire in-house once again?  I am moving back to the east coast mid 2006 and wonder if I will still be working out of my home or can look to applying for an in-house position.  I was gonna post this on the state board of NY but it seems to be quite inactive.  Any information is truly appreciated!
Not that I know of. More likely to find hospitals that do. nm

No work on four hospitals
I'd like to know how it happens that four hospitals can suddenly just stop dictating, and work suddenly just get slow, on all of them at the same time, and them not even in the same group.  I think the company has hired too many transcriptionists and can't keep them busy, or is offshoring most everything, but telling us a different story.  Is there any way to find out what's the real case?  XXXXX  It has happened several times like this over the past five years, and I am getting fed up.  Are all companies like this or is this the only one where this sort of thing happens? People get sick and have operations every day of the year.  They don't suddenly stop going to the hospital.  Are they playing on our stupidity, or could this be legitimate? I find it very hard to believe.  I'm a seasoned MT with 15 years' experience, and provide excellent work. What' up?
Hospitals outsourcing?
Anyone know of any hospitals directly outsourcing to MTs?  My local hospital does - but not hiring now.  I'm w/a great company other than running out of work consistently even on three accounts for months on end ....
