I felt the same way last year......until
I left the home based business I had established for over 15 years, and took a job managing an office. I did it for a solid year, and at the end of the year, I missed so much being able to just take a break when I wanted. I was in a management position and could not just take a break for a solid year. In fact, I could have never left early, took a day off, or took a long lunch as I was the one in charge and nobody else was accountable. I don't know if that was really the case, but I sure felt like it.

After a year, I decided to come back home and start transcribing again. No regrets thus far. It's been three months, I sort of picked up where I left off, and my family is very happy to have me back at home.
I always love when people aske me what I do for a living, I tell them, and they ask how do I do that? I feel lucky. I have been able to stay home, earn a great living, and raise my kids. I am here for the deliveries and repairs, am able to fix dinner, and do a load of laundry in between jobs.

There is only one thing about working at home that has been hard. I love to give 100% to everything I do, but when I work at home, I tend not to do that. I spread myself too thin and manage to get it done. Would love to fix that part.

Overall, I am just so greatful to be able to do what I do.
This is THE BEST post I have read here all year sm
BRAVO! I could not have said it better myself.

YES you REAP what you SOW!!!!! YOU ARE RIGHT ON THE MONEY.

I am saving this...
I read some posts a year or so back (sm)
that it was a husband/wife operation - that the wife was super nice and very easy to work for - no comment positive or negative on the husband that I can recall - that they usually always got paid on time but there was that little bit about being paid when client paid - which is a little scary - I'm of the firm belief that a company - large or small - should have enough cash flow to pay their people - that is running a little too close to the edge for me - but if it is a good company and great platform, good docs - I might try them someday.
Read closely and notice the year, hello!
The transcription business has taken a nose dive from what we used to make to now, look at the year I made this amount. Much happier now with VR because now I have made enough in the past to have a really good social security check coming in this year. I work part time, get retirement and SS and all those combined makes for an excellent income. Very happy now, thanks.
Heck, no, lol. Didja read my posts. Taken 2 year to
how I actually DO my work.  Just cause this is my fit doesnt mean it would fit you.  Jobs are not one size fits all.  And anyway, personally I think there are already too many on this acct.  But then, dont all of us feel that way about our accts, lol.
AccuStat...any new info? I've read the archives that are a year old...

Sad, felt the same way at MQ....sm

They kept promising me that things would get better.  I typed acute care and radiology at the Big Q.  When all the changes were made and we were switched to DQS I had to choose between acute care and radiology.  I chose radiology which is my first love.  I was also switched from pay per line to pay per report.  My pay check truly suffered as there was little work for the great influx of MTs placed with the one office that handled radiology.  They were truly not ready to handle all of this.  Work was not distributed equally and what was your primary account was no longer.  As they phased out accounts from the cottage program to DQS my work load was lighter and lighter.  I stuck it out from August to January, but can understand how you feel as far as workload and pay, we all have to eat and are not working for charity.

Hope everything works out for you because it can be soooo frustrating going from one company to another only to be disappointed and then back out on the beaten path in tow with many others.

I have never felt the need to use a
line counter other than IChart.I've been at this long enough that I can pretty much guess what my line count is/should be. Why in heaven's name would you continue to work for a company that you don't trust?
I felt exactly the same
aa
well, I have always felt
that it IS the MTs job to let her 'upper mgmt' know when she needed more work. However, I can tell you, that there apparently comes a point when a new account is NOT provided, ie, one doesn't always receive one when asked for one. Besides, it takes time, at the cost of momentum, to have to bounce from account to acccount looking for work. I am feeling rather irritated about this whole scenario right now and next time something comes my way, I may have to cut my hours at MDI and put my eggs in more than one basket.
Wow, that's all? No wonder we felt
x
I do just the opposite
I live alone. I brush my teeth, may or may not get out of my PJs, comb my hair maybe once a week. I am totally pathetic. But...I love it!
Just the opposite for me. The first
2 weeks I had 80% ESLs and a lot of bad sound quality, and since then I've had days like that interspersed with easy days. But I've built up my normals so even the ESLs are fine for me now. The only reports I hate are the long ones with the long pauses that put me to sleep, and some long cardiac cath reports by a slurrer.
just the opposite

I'm drowning! Are you acute care or clinic?

opposite for me
i left MQ, interviewed with KS and decided to go with MDI instead, and for me, am so happy i did. there's a good fit for everyone i guess!!
Or...they think the opposite
...they will say, Oh, so you do data entry. lol I could probably earn more money doing 'data entry'.
sounds like how i felt with...
softscript. i lasted only one month.

move on. not only will you not make money, but you're also stressing on a difficult account. two strikes; dont wait for the third.
I felt hesitant, too. sm

I was offered a job at another company and accepted it, but something inside me said try TransTech.  So that's what I'm doing!  It's always hard to move on, but when you're being disrespected and treated badly, it's time.

I took what I felt to be an extremely
long and involved test to be an Editor for SmartMed. Got hired but still did not understand why it was necessary to test that extensively.
I felt the same exact way
and I did not sleep very well either the night after that meeting. Personally, I do not know what the big deal is about being paid by the keystroke. When I was hired on, I was told what I was being paid per keystroke and what it came out to be if it were a 65-character line just like every other place goes by and it has always been right on.

I look at things this way and the new guy said it himself during the meeting. There is a shortage of qualified MTs here in the US and now, according to him, there is starting to be in India. As far as I see it, who knows, there might be something even better somewhere else if things do not feel that they are working out for me. Do I worry? Yes, I do, but more so in a way that it seems like a possible unnecessary hassle for me and I like simple.
I just felt replying here was enough. I SM
really didn't care to receive an email saying basically the same things.  I know she doesn't actually have my email address.  I have posted hundreds of times on these boards and this is the first time anyone has done that.
I have kind of felt the same way, s/m

I work for a GREAT company.  I make a good line rate, I have great benefits and I always have more than enough work to keep me busy.

There have been some negative posts on here regarding the company I work for.  The main complaint is the fact that they expect their MTs to work the schedule they commit to working when they are hired.  There are also a few complaints about how strict QA can be.  There has recently been a couple of posts about the company talking about lack of work on Monday and about having feed problems.

The truth is I have been offered OT on Mondays for the last month or 2.  We have had 2 separate feed problems due to facility issues (not a company issue) within the past month.  Now, my company pays downtime if we run out of work, they do not overstaff our accounts, they provide us great benefits and pay us great wages but people are still complaining???  I just don't get it.

If I had to go outside of my home and find a position, I sure as heck would not have near the convenience that I have with this job, even if I have to stick to a schedule.  When you go outside of home to work, don't you have to work a schedule???  Do you not have something said to you if you are late or leave work early???  Do you not have something said to you if you make errors in your work???

I also hear people complaining about rude editors, co-workers, etc.  Ummm, is everyone in your life always in a good mood?  When you work outside of your home, do you never get your toes stepped on by someone or another???  I think I remember my biggest reason for working at home and that is because I don't like dealing with two-faced, back stabbers.

I know there are a lot of bad companies out there as I have worked for a few myself but after starting with this company and being here almost 3 years, I am amazed at the people who still complain about them.

MTs need to realize that this is a JOB.  We have to make the same sacrifices as 90% of American workers, which includes WORKING A SCHEDULED SHIFT!!  There is no doubt it is a little sacrifice so that I can continue to make a good wage, have good benefits and always have work.

It felt more like a secretary.
I lasted only a month.  I felt more like a secretary than an MT.  The amount of demos and information that had to be searched before you begin transcribing was unreal.  QA also picked everything to death.
Squirm! That is exactly how I felt!
Butterflies in my stomach. Like my instinct was kicking in. Thanks for the validation. :)
Have you ever felt like your company was

Picking on you?  I tend to feel that way these days.  Like, I feel that QA is being overly stern for some reason and the owner doesn't seem to care either way.  In a sense I feel they WANT me to quit, but why not just fire me if I am not doing a good job?

After two years on the job and very consistent high QA scores, they decide that my QA isn't up to par and put me back in 100% QA and I have been on this for 3 months now and never had anything else said to me about it.

I felt the exact same way
Was depressed for the past 2 days about it and wondering how I'm going to pay my bills now. Trying to find another job also.
others felt differently - NM

I have never felt so demoralized.
You just keep taking and taking and giving nothing in return, but you still want 100% from us. Low morale, low productivity. And I know I am not the only one.
No, it has been just the opposite. They've been
I just have a hard time with their platform and the account that I'm on is very difficult.  They don't harrass me at all about not meeting the quota.  I'm just worried about it myself because I need the benefits and I'm not sure if it's just me or if the other people below were having the same problem.
and I had just the opposite experience with him.

Actually the opposite is more true
You wrote: The problem is that they (MTs) seem nice and normal when being hired and then their true self shines through within days or weeks.

My experience is the opposite with Mom and Pop MTSOs: They tend to be overworked - or - they don't want to be bothered with actually running a business properly.

Ask for clarification, or point out an error and some of these nice and normal sounding MTSOs turn snarky, defensive, and dismissive. Or as in the case of this company, they alternate that with totally ignoring you.

You are correct - there are MTs from h___ however, it's clear from reading the trend of complaints on this board that people aren't looking for extraordinary treatment - just general respect. Like being paid on time. Disclose up front if you tie payment to payment by your client! Like being properly trained. Like answering questions promptly and politely, and taking responsibility for when the MTSO is at fault.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T! find out what it means to me. Hey! giveit2megiveit2me. uh huh!
RUN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION!

I am soooo the opposite
If I were making this posting, I would be asking if anybody knew who made a 'clicky' keyboard, because to my ear, they're all too quiet. I need to be able to 'hear' what my fingers are doing, which may make sense to some of the people on here. I don't know if it's some kind of subconscious thing or what, like instantaneous letter counting or something, but I can almost 'hear' a typo and God only knows what I would be typing if I didn't get that immediate feedback. I just turn up my volume and, if it's really tough, type really gently through the bad section (and hopefully it's just a sentence or so).

But in answer to your question, it seems to me that a lot of the black Microsoft keyboards are pretty darn quiet, both the straight and ergonomic ones.
I had the opposite response.

I agree.. things have just felt different there lately
Past few months, whenever overtime is offered, it is offered with a warning that your lines should match up to your overtime hours and don't take advantage, blah, blah, balh. Almost makes you feel guilty for putting down overtime even though you are sitting there working. Now, we basically have had our holiday pay taken away. I used to be a real big supporter of OSi and they have basically treated me well, but I'm getting really discouraged.
Too soon to really say. I felt I did okay the first day given the learning curve.
I am hoping my production will increase by at least 150-200 lines a day over the first few days and that should more than bring me up to speed.
You also felt that you were just lucky to get paid at
You stated that in another post?  Again, are you out of your mind?  So, if you work for free, no wonder they love you!  HAHA!  The joke is really on you and gee thanks for making hard for the rest of us to demand a paycheck on time every time.  You're very condescending and you can even let it rest!    Just an observer, but you are obviously just as bad as the owner that comes on here and posts in an unprofessional manner.  Get over yourself already.
Actually I think the opposite happened from the "attacks"
I hope they compare apples to apples and not apples to oranges.
Too funny! I hear just the opposite.sm
I still speak to the records director at the hospital I used to work at. A certain unmentionable company lost a several million dollar account with them when it was discovered they were outsourcing work to Indians. Another large practice has several lawsuits pending from US QA editors Americanizing dictation done by Indians. I've seen the work and it is atrocious.
Looking from the opposite side of the fence

Remember QA person, you are getting paid by the HOUR to research blanks, MTs do not, they work on PRODUCTIVITY. Now, I don't leave any blanks because I have personal pride, but when can't understand it and I spend 5 minutes on ONE WORD I figure my job is done. You QA people can research it from there, because the last I knew no one works for FREE, or maybe you would like to? I can't buy groceries or pay the bills with all that free gratis work the company and you QA hourly folks would WISH I did.

I found just the opposite is true (sm)
With most companies (outside of medical transcription), being an IC means that you work when you want, for as long as you want, with no set schedule. In medical transcription, these companies use IC status to get around having to pay benefits and deduct taxes, and they STILL require you to work a set schedule, even as an IC. I can't speak for all transcription companies, but that has been my experience. They want you to be classified as an IC, so they don't have to do taxes and pay benefits, but they still want to treat you like an employee.
completely opposite experience here sm

I've received direct deposit, a day before the official pay day of Friday for each and every check, including my first one (which is extremely rare in my experience).

I have plenty of work available on my account, but I have been trained on 2 different accounts (1 on eScription, the other on ExTEXT).  They've been very friendly and helpful the few times I've had to call them.  The rest of the time, they leave you alone.  As long as you work your shift and meet productivity requirements, they seem pretty hands off.

It's like any place, I'm sure, what works for some doesn't work for others.  Each person has different needs/requirements.

Sorry you had trouble. Hope you found a better place for you.

In response to "just the opposite....."
Well, HATS OFF to that MT who got that account! About time someone gave up and stood up to do something for herself to survive this mess.

Quote: ...cannot even get 0.13 per line and most clients want 0.12. Rediculous!

Honey, I'm an MT and I am salivating. From annuals in or around the 70Ks, to living out my savings, I am now on the credit cards because the services are in a tizzy. Got Valium?

Obviously, because the way things are for you services, we MTs feel the need for protection in working for same, regarding overall integrity and how that damages us.

The workers did not ruin it for the companies; we did not make it so damn competative out there. That one is between all you organizers and the VR creators. The only thing we are guilty of is doing good job that made you shine when this profession was, in fact, a profession.

Yet, you people (aside from a select few these days) ARE ruining it for us, rendering it useless to continue without ethical boundaries in your attempts to keep the company afloat.

Well, and I'm so, so sorry, but the MTs ARE this business with an -ist.

So, I guess it has finally some to this: Unionize - or pair up and organize. Reclaim self-respect, self-worth by getting hired on for say, 11 cpl, even. It only takes ONE facility for me, just one.

I have the opposite experience.. I have a lot of communication
I don't feel like a number there, I really feel like a part of the family.
Sometimes you can get completely opposite opinions from
MTs, not just a disgruntled MT versus owner/recruiter/supervisor.

Unfortunately a lot of companies play favorites, even though they may say it cannot or is not being done. The MT who gets the short end of the stick is going to, rightfully, complain about bad situations and bad line counts, hard work, etc. The ones who are spoonfed by their supervisors - get the jobs with all the normals, get the accounts with easy line counts and easy dictators, are going to think it is wonderful.

I have been watching the boards for a long time. I remember 1 company that was touted as being the best in the world (located in Florida and is almost a bad word now), sent flowers to every new employee, etc., but gave the new people all the rotten work to do. Same happens with a lot of other companies, and if work is low, the favorites are allowed to continue to work and the others have to try to make up the time as best they can.

A lot of companies have different platforms to work on, some easy, some not so great. Line counting may be different on different accounts. There are a lot of reasons for the discrepancies in posts.
It;s the exact opposite where I work
We are flooded with work and are being asked to work extra.
I get charged the opposite - i have to pay $5 per check for DD. nm
@
Quite the opposite. I have found mostly positives. sm
I started 4 months ago and so far, so good. When I was doing research, it seemed that all the negative posts were from the same 2 or 3 people, one in particular that harps on no raises and no OT pay. Everyone I have talked to at KS and other MT's that I know at KS all say the opposite is true; they do give raises and do not expect you to work OT. When the do ask you to, they often say holiday pay, which means 1-1/2 times your regular rate, just like OT pay. I did get my raise at 90 days, as promised. I do have the work I need to get the lines I need to make the checks that I need, so I am happy. The training was excellent, and the QA feedback helpful not spiteful.
I have the exact opposite experience
I did have to tell them approximately when I would be working (mornings, afternoons, etc.) so they know who is on when stats come through. I did not have to give them an exact schedule that I am required to stick to.

They do require Messenger, but I have only be IM'd once in the 6 months I have worked for them and that was for request to do a STAT report. I don't feel I am monitored.

I have missed several days of work and been a no show due to my kid being sick, but it has never been an issue. They have never even mentioned the days I have missed.

I guess the lack of work may be an account thing. My account has only ran out of work 2 days out of the 6 months I have worked on it. I have plenty of work and only work on 1 account for them, but I could easily get a secondary if needed as I have received several emails announcing openings on otherr accounts.

I do agree that the Iscriptor can be slow, but it is comparable to other platforms I have worked on. I like it better than Inscribe and Extext. Just personal preference I guess.

I have worked with many companies and Advanced is one of the better ones in my opinion. I feel I am left alone to do my work, but when I need help, someone is only an IM away and is always ready to help.

Just goes to show how people can have completely different experiences with the same company.
I had the exact opposite experience!
I was recently contacted by a SoftScript recruiter as a result of my resume posted on this site. She informed me that I seemed perfectly suited for an acute care (Big 4) position, even though my resume makes it clear that my experience and interest lies in clinical transcription and editing, not acute care!
